Jeremiah 50

1 The word that the Lord spake against Babylon and against the land of the Chaldeans by Jeremiah the prophet.

Declare ye among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and conceal not: say, Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.

For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall remove, they shall depart, both man and beast.

In those days, and in that time, saith the Lord, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: they shall go, and seek theLord their God.

They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward, saying, Come, and let us join ourselves to the Lord in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten.

My people hath been lost sheep: their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their restingplace.

All that found them have devoured them: and their adversaries said, We offend not, because they have sinned against the Lord, the habitation of justice, even the Lord, the hope of their fathers.

Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he goats before the flocks.

For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: and they shall set themselves in array against her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty expert man; none shall return in vain.

10 And Chaldea shall be a spoil: all that spoil her shall be satisfied, saith the Lord.

11 Because ye were glad, because ye rejoiced, O ye destroyers of mine heritage, because ye are grown fat as the heifer at grass, and bellow as bulls;

12 Your mother shall be sore confounded; she that bare you shall be ashamed: behold, the hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.

13 Because of the wrath of the Lord it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate: every one that goeth by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues.

14 Put yourselves in array against Babylon round about: all ye that bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: for she hath sinned against the Lord.

15 Shout against her round about: she hath given her hand: her foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down: for it is the vengeance of the Lord: take vengeance upon her; as she hath done, do unto her.

16 Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the oppressing sword they shall turn every one to his people, and they shall flee every one to his own land.

17 Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones.

18 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.

19 And I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon mount Ephraim and Gilead.

20 In those days, and in that time, saith the Lord, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve.

21 Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: waste and utterly destroy after them, saith the Lord, and do according to all that I have commanded thee.

22 A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction.

23 How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!

24 I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Babylon, and thou wast not aware: thou art found, and also caught, because thou hast striven against the Lord.

25 The Lord hath opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his indignation: for this is the work of the Lord God of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans.

26 Come against her from the utmost border, open her storehouses: cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly: let nothing of her be left.

27 Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: woe unto them! for their day is come, the time of their visitation.

28 The voice of them that flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God, the vengeance of his temple.

29 Call together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been proud against the Lord, against the Holy One of Israel.

30 Therefore shall her young men fall in the streets, and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith the Lord.

31 Behold, I am against thee, O thou most proud, saith the Lord God of hosts: for thy day is come, the time that I will visit thee.

32 And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up: and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all round about him.

33 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; The children of Israel and the children of Judah were oppressed together: and all that took them captives held them fast; they refused to let them go.

34 Their Redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is his name: he shall throughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

35 A sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith the Lord, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men.

36 A sword is upon the liars; and they shall dote: a sword is upon her mighty men; and they shall be dismayed.

37 A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people that are in the midst of her; and they shall become as women: a sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be robbed.

38 A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: for it is the land of graven images, and they are mad upon their idols.

39 Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell therein: and it shall be no more inhabited for ever; neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation.

40 As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the Lord; so shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell therein.

41 Behold, a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.

42 They shall hold the bow and the lance: they are cruel, and will not shew mercy: their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride upon horses, every one put in array, like a man to the battle, against thee, O daughter of Babylon.

43 The king of Babylon hath heard the report of them, and his hands waxed feeble: anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in travail.

44 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan unto the habitation of the strong: but I will make them suddenly run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me?

45 Therefore hear ye the counsel of the Lord, that he hath taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitation desolate with them.

46 At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.

  1. In this scripture, it is clear that Judgement has been given. Vengeance is the Lord’s, and he is a God of justice. Thank God for the blood of Jesus Christ, which cleanses us from all our sins.

    “Be blessed”…….

  2. !!JUDGMENT!!!

  3. No idols here!
I pray and repent that of my wrong doings everyday. And I have had a past that has been cleansed under the blood of Christ. God is the best thing that has ever happened to me in my life anr I give Him the glory of the change. I could do morevchange always looking to God.

    • Numbers 23:10/

Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the forth part of Isreal? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his.

  4. 20 In those days, and in that time, saith the Lord, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve.

In those days and at that time”—God’s Decree— “they’ll look high and low for a sign of Israel’s guilt—nothing; Search nook and cranny for a trace of Judah’s sin—nothing. These people that I’ve saved will start out with a clean slate. MSG

When God forgives our sins, man cannot drag them back up against us; they are gone forever, under the Blood!

  5. My people hath been lost sheep: their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their restingplace. (Jeremiah 50:6 KJV)
This is a great warning to anyone who is helping God’s people. We need to make sure we are leading people to God and not away from him.

  6. Verse 6 AMP “My people have been lost sheep; their shepherds have led them astray [to favorite places of idolatry] on mountains [that seduce]. They have gone from [one sin to another] mountain to hill; they have forgotten their [own] resting-place.” Same verse CEV “My people, you are lost sheep abandoned by their shepherds in the mountains. You don’t even remember your resting place.”

Some have become so comfortable with sin, they don’t even realize how deep they are in or how they got there. This reminded of what the beginning of Proverbs 23:35 CEV says “You will be bruised all over, without even remembering how it all happened….” Same verse AMP says “You will say, They struck me, but I was not hurt! They beat me [as with a hammer], but I did not feel it! When shall I awake? I will crave and seek more wine again [and escape reality].” The reality is that true rest is in the Lord as verse 50 NLT says “In those coming days,” says the Lord, “the people of Israel will return home together with the people of Judah. They will come weeping and seeking the Lord their God. They will ask the way to Jerusalem and will start back home again. They will bind themselves to the Lord with an eternal covenant that will never be forgotten.” Verse 34 NLT says “But the one who redeems them is strong. His name is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. He will defend them and give them rest again in Israel. But for the people of Babylon there will be no rest!”

  7. iLove to eat the Word

20 In those days, and in that time, saith the Lord, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve.

Thank-You Jesus for forgiving us of our sins each and every day. Help us to remember that we too must forgive those who sin against us.

(Matthew 18:21 KJV) Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

(Matthew 18:22 KJV) Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

There are 1,440 minutes in a day. 70×7=490. So, Jesus is saying if someone sins against you every 3 minutes in a day that we should forgive them. Not 3 times in a day, but every 3 minutes of the day.

  8. 44 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan unto the habitation of the strong: but I will make them suddenly run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me?
45 Therefore hear ye the counsel of the Lord, that he hath taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitation desolate with them.
46 At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.

When God fights for us ; we win.

Many times in our walk with The Lord, we find ourselves trying to fight against the enemy. What we must remember is that since we are the children of the Living God. He has already won the battle. He overcame death , Hell ,and the grave. When we let go and allow God. We will always win.

  9. MSG – 29-30 “Call in the troops against Babylon,
    anyone who can shoot straight!
    Tighten the noose!
    Leave no loopholes!
Give her back as good as she gave,
a dose of her own medicine!
Her brazen insolence is an outrage
against God, The Holy of Israel.
And now she pays: her young strewn dead in the streets,
her soldiers dead, silent forever.” God’s Decree.

Babylon has always represented a type of the world. Oh that the children of God would rise up and come against the spirit of Babylon that has overtaken our families. It must begin at home. We must have the fortitude and tenacity to rise up against this spirit and remove every appearance of evil……

  10. SANTO SANTO SANTO!!!
14 Put yourselves in array against Babylon round about: all ye that bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: for she hath sinned against the Lord.

Many times we set ourselves in array against a person for not doing what we think is correct , not even realizing that we are judging them. We forget what we profess to have “PASSION FOR THE SOULS” and we conveniently forget the WORD OF GOD ” the war is not against flesh and blood…..”
    SANTO SANTO SANTO!!!
I examine myself and let others examine themselves as well………don’t examine them and then shun them away because they aren’t like you want them to be………….
JESUS!!! YOU ARE MIGHTY!!! JESUS I LOVE YOU DADDY!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT MERCY!!! HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH !!! HALELUJAH!!!

  11. UNPROTECTED

7 All that found them have devoured them: and their adversaries said , We offend not, because they have sinned against the LORD , the habitation of justice , even the LORD , the hope of their fathers .

Here is evidence again that GOD is our protractor and covering. The children of the LORD are a prey to the world, it’s system and the adversary satan. There is no greater life than to LIVE for JESUS.

As the scripture verifies here that when we sin, through disobedience, rebellion or idolatry we become unprotected and even the wicked are able to take advantage of the child of GOD.

REPENT, turn from sinful ways to follow the LORD, for he is:

Psalms 18:2 The LORD is my rock , and my fortress , and my deliverer ; my God , my strength , in whom I will trust ; my buckler , and the horn of my salvation , and my high tower .

Thank you JESUS for your covering and protection. In you JESUS do we trust.

    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  12. 34 Their Redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is his name: he shall throughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

My redeemer is strong. His name is Jesus. God is calling for a people to be tired of the status quo and join with him in the miraculous battle for this city. He completely turned cities around them through the battle of the swords and now is no different. Our sword is the word, and our shield is our faith, out breastplate is righteousness, our helment is humility, our captain is our Pastor. We are ready for battle and Jesus is going before us. We will overthrow the strongholds of this city and make it a camp of the Living God.

  13. Stay in the RESERVE.
20 In those days, and in that time, saith the Lord, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve.
34 Their Redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is his name: he shall throughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

Stay in the reserve, the ones set a side from the world, separate, holy to God. Stay in His covenant that is the only way to receive forgiveness. the type of forgiveness that no past can be found. Our REDEEMER IS STRONG, HE LIVES, AND JUDGEMENT WILL COME.

  14. Who Are You Following?

6 My people hath been lost sheep: their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their restingplace.

Not every “shepherd” we follow will lead us correctly. Sometimes we make friends, denominal preachers, authors, etc into shepherds over our life, then get  confused when things start to get crazy. Other times it’s deeper and we reject anything resembling true spiritual wisdom and start looking to jobs, worldly gurus, other religions, material items, celebrities… These false shepherds will lead us astray and cause us to forget our true resting place on the Lord.

    Psalms 36:7-9
7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. 8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures. 9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.

    Psalms 91:1-4
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. 4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

  15. 6 My people hath been lost sheep: their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their restingplace.

The “shepherds” of this world are lost, and their direction (doctrine) is wrong, allot of them don’t have the truth. So a lost shepherd is no good to the sheep that are fallowing him! We must be the ones to go out and lead them an the right path of truth we mush be the ones to try and reach the lost with the glorious gospel of Christ, we mush be the ones to lead others to the cross. by example and by spreading God’s truth to those that don’t know and even those who are deceived by false doctrine.

    This Is Angel

  16. 33 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; The children of Israel and the children of Judah were oppressed together: and all that took them captives held them fast; they refused to let them go.

34 Their Redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is his name: he shall throughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

In our weakness He is strong! When the children of God are being oppressed or find themselves in bondage we know we have a redeemer who is mighty!

  17. The Great Homecoming

“My people were lost sheep. Their shepherds led them astray. They abandoned them in the mountains where they wandered aimless through the hills. They lost track of home, couldn’t remember where they came from. Everyone who met them took advantage of them. Their enemies had no qualms: ‘Fair game,’ they said. ‘They walked out on God. They abandoned the True Pasture, the hope of their parents.’ (Jeremiah 50:6, 7 MSG)

How my heartaches for those who have chose the world for a season …. Lord, I pray for their minds to recall where they came from. To recall to their minds your Word and prophecies you have spoken to their lives. Your Word will not return void. Let their paths cross with a true compassionate disciple to lovingly show them the way home. Lord, I’ll leave the 99 to search for the one lost sheep. Lost sheep please come home!!

“Suppose one of you had a hundred sheep and lost one. Wouldn’t you leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the lost one until you found it? When found, you can be sure you would put it across your shoulders, rejoicing, and when you got home call in your friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Celebrate with me! I’ve found my lost sheep!’ Count on it—there’s more joy in heaven over one sinner’s rescued life than over ninety-nine good people in no need of rescue. (Luke 15:4-7 MSG)

  18. 6 “My people have been lost sheep. Their shepherds have led them astray and turned them loose in the mountains. They have lost their way and can’t remember how to get back to the sheepfold. (NLT)

There are so many lost and hurting souls, we need to make effort to change that and spread the gospel. Many made choices to sin in this world, but many also were simply raised and led wrong without even knowing the truth. So many people simply have not heard, it is our job to teach them and bring them to a new light, not for our sake, but all for the glory of God.

  19. 6 My people hath been lost sheep: their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their restingplace.
7 All that found them have devoured them: and their adversaries said, We offend not, because they have sinned against the Lord, the habitation of justice, even the Lord, the hope of their fathers.
8 Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he goats before the flocks.

    Lost Sheep

Many years I have seen and heard of people who go from church to church, without reguard of the denomination, just because the Word being spoken, is easier to accept, and the “Shepard” delivering it, is less abrasive than the last person that they had brough beat them.

The Word warns against the soul who becomes a stumbeling block to the babes. There has to be a real compassion for the souls being reached for in order to reach these hurt souls. Proverbs tells us that it is easier to win a walled city, rather than an offended brother. I HAVE to commit to do all I can to keep from being the stumbeling block, and to be the “He goat” that leads the flock to a place of rest.

Having rased goats, I have had the privilage of getting to see as many times the he goats will lead the flock of goats, as they wander , to water, to grass, to feed, or where ever they go. We as the church must lead these hurt scattered souls from all over the reigion, back to Christ, and bring them to hear the truth. So they too can rest peacefully, as we do…

  20. This chapter illustrates retribution. The day of retribution was declared; “Behold, I am against thee, O thou most proud, saith the Lord God of hosts: for thy day is come, the time that I will visit thee”. There is coming a day of retribution, as such one is wise to prepare, by obedience to the word of God (Jesus). What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  21. Why fight something that’s already won? Trying to handle situations in our life that God has already put to rest is unnecessary. We are victorious through God! We are STRONG!

  22. 4 In those days, and in that time, saith the Lord, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: they shall go, and seek theLord their God.
5 They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward, saying, Come, and let us join ourselves to the Lord in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten.
6 My people hath been lost sheep: their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their restingplace.

These scriptures make me think about those saints of God who have fallen away into the lures and pleasures if sin. They have lost their way & forgotten about God. But in mercy & through grace God will call home his sons & daughters. He will call them to him and he will need us-his church- to be his voice, his hands & his feet to show them the way. The church will be a hospital: for births, healings & deliverance.

  23. 17 Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones.

The church is scattered. We have been driven away by our adversary. God bring the church together in unity. Unite us and change this world.

  24. 44 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan unto the habitation of the strong: but I will make them suddenly run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me?

45 Therefore hear ye the counsel of the Lord, that he hath taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitation desolate with them.

  25. 31 Behold, I am against thee, O thou most proud, saith the Lord God of hosts: for thy day is come, the time that I will visit thee.

Pride will get you no where, but a first class ticket to destruction. We must remain humble in all things we do. Don’t let ego get in the way of the work God has for you.

  26. 15 Shout against her round about: she hath given her hand: her foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down: for it is the vengeance of the Lord: take vengeance upon her; as she hath done, do unto her.
Why do we worry when God has it all under control.

  27. As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and

    40

the neighbour cities thereof, saith the Lord; so shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell therein.
Intense judgment was given upon these people God was finally fed up with the idol worship and such that he pronounced the same judgment as on Sodom.

  28. 20 In those days, and in that time, saith the Lord, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve.

Thank you Jesus for the blood that washes mr white as snow. I’m thankful for thr opportunity to set things right with God, repentance and for the Lord’s mercy and grace.

  29. Mother of Nations

12 Your mother shall be sore confounded; she that bare you shall be ashamed: behold, the hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.

Jeremiah predicts the punishment of the heathen nation of Babylon. As God’s instrument of discipline against Judah and surrounding nations, Babylon must now pay for its own pride, idolatry and rebellion. In 539 B.C. Babylon falls to Cyrus the Persian. Jeremiah describes Babylon as the embarrassed mother of it citizens. The once-proud nation will now be “the least of the nations” (Jer 50:12). Scripture often metaphorically describes nations as mothers. In Genesis 17:15-16 God promised that the barren Sarai “would be the mother of nations.” Ezekiel refers to Israel as a “mother among the lions” (Eze 19:2), and the apostle Paul declares that Jerusalem “is our mother” (Gal 4:26).

Perhaps God uses women to symbolize nations because women bring forth children to inhabit and lead the land. No nation can stand without the influence of its women. The spirit of mama is to protect and nurture. When a physical and spiritual mama stops caring about their children something is wrong. Life and death of spirit begins with mama. Eve the mother of all the living (Gen 3:20), though her rebellion she would be he mother of all nations, some would be descendants of Cain, the others Seth. Mama will be the parent spending the majority of time with their young. Sustanence comes from mama for a reason. Our spiritual mama is our church, and where we go to find life. We need to have mama (church) to get to know Abba, the giver of life, and that we may have it more abundantly. We have a choice of which parents to look up to, the ones following God or the ones turning away from Him.
