Lamentations 4

1 How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.

The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!

Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.

The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man breaketh it unto them.

They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.

For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.

Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire:

Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.

They that be slain with the sword are better than they that be slain with hunger: for these pine away, stricken through for want of the fruits of the field.

10 The hands of the pitiful women have sodden their own children: they were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people.

11 The Lord hath accomplished his fury; he hath poured out his fierce anger, and hath kindled a fire in Zion, and it hath devoured the foundations thereof.

12 The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy should have entered into the gates of Jerusalem.

13 For the sins of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her,

14 They have wandered as blind men in the streets, they have polluted themselves with blood, so that men could not touch their garments.

15 They cried unto them, Depart ye; it is unclean; depart, depart, touch not: when they fled away and wandered, they said among the heathen, They shall no more sojourn there.

16 The anger of the Lord hath divided them; he will no more regard them: they respected not the persons of the priests, they favoured not the elders.

17 As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.

18 They hunt our steps, that we cannot go in our streets: our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come.

19 Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven: they pursued us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness.

20 The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the Lord, was taken in their pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the heathen.

21 Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked.

22 The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will discover thy sins.

  1. Failure to teach the young.

3 Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.

4 The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man breaketh it unto them.

The land that once was flowing with Milk & Honey has failed to teach their young about God. The bible instructs us how to care for our young babes in Christ in 1 Cor. 3:2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
In Matt 4:4 teaches us the importance of His word in the nutrition of our lives and it says “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” When we fail to teach our children about God and His word, we leave them with out any nutrition, it is our responsibility to make sure that after they get baptized and after they receive the Holy Ghost, they are nurtured, taught, enticed into wanting to be in His feast every day. Israel forgot to teach the children, they let themselves be influenced by the world to the point that it took priority over their teachings. It did not happened over night but little by little, compromising their believes, losing the priority of His word, and finally by becoming more like the world and listening to false prophets. LETS NOT LEAD OUR BABES STRAYED, but lets teach them, influence them, make their interest, and hunger for HIM grow everyday.

  2. iLove to eat the Word

3 Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.

Let’s not be like the ostrich POFW, the ostrich does not love her children

Job 39:13-17 Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich? Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust, And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them. She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers: her labour is in vain without fear; Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.

Let’s love the new children born at POFW!

  3. 22 The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will discover thy sins.

    Jeremiah 33:6-8
…6’Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them; and I will reveal to them an abundance of peace and truth. 7’I will restore the fortunes of Judah and the fortunes of Israel and will rebuild them as they were at first. 8’I will cleanse them from all their iniquity by which they have sinned against Me, and I will pardon all their iniquities by which they have sinned against Me and by which they have transgressed against Me.…

    Jeremiah 59:20
In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve.

At the beginning of this chapter Jeremiah says “How is the gold become dim!” The answer is SIN. God takes us through the process of refining gold but opportunities arise and sin takes dominion over our lives and that once beautiful shiny piece of gold is now tarnished and is in need of more than just a polish but He has to place us back in the fire. James 1:2 says my brother count it all joy…! Why you may ask?

    1 peter 5:10
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

By the end of the chapter the punishment is over. Learning from your mistake is apart of the process of restoration. So if your in the middle of one of life’s opportunities because of sin keep making steps towards the King because restoration is coming. Just remember the key is to learn from the mistake and don’t push repeat.

Push repeat on your praise not your problem.

  4. SANTO SANTO SANTO!!!
19 Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven: they pursued us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness.
If there is anything from the enemy that can be counted on will be the accusation, lies and death. his 3fold ministry is to kill, steal and destroy!!!
WE MUST LIVE THE GOSPEL, NOT ONLY PREACH IT, BUT LIVE IT!!! SANTO SANTO SANTO!!! GRAN MISERICORDIA TIENES OOOO JEHOVA DE LOS EJERCITOS!!! GRACIAS POR TU FIDELIDAD!!! HALELUJAH !!! HALELUJAH !!! HALELUJAH !!! I LOVE YOU DADDY!!!

  5. 12 The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy should have entered into the gates of Jerusalem.

Disobedience is a key that unlocks the gates of our strong-holds and allows enemies in that no one thought could ever get in.

“I can’t believe he did this or she did that!” We’ll, it probably started with not obeying the voice of God.

  6. Feed the Children

4 The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man breaketh it unto them.

Within the last few years we have seen harvest like no other. Many have been filled with the Holy Ghost and baptized in the precious name of Jesus.

Yet many have come and gone. Why? Hunger.

Bible studies are essential to the development of new believers, and disciples in the kingdom. It is in this setting that The Lord ministers through us directly to the learner.

Principles, basics, statues, and laws are shown amongst the backdrop of God’s saving grace, and eternal provision for our souls.

The passage describes children whose tongue sticks to the roof of the mouth. Bible study reveals the necessity of prayer, and the plan of salvation.

Let us break the bread for the little ones and minister the word of God.

I believe this scripture is fitting for today’s context.

    Matthew 19:14
14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me:for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

  7. 21 Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked.

22 The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will discover thy sins.

I have seen before where my girls know they are both in trouble, both getting their punishment, and they both are unhappy about it. I have also seen where one is busy thinking that she got away with it, just to find out it was her turn next…

My dad use to tell me “Watch what you say son, you haven’t lived your life yet,” when I would start talking about someone and how they should have responded differently to a trial they were facing.

God is not blind. He is just. We must rest assured that He does see and will chastise as He needs to, to direct us. That we might line up with Him and His word…

  8. 9 They that be slain with the sword are better than they that be slain with hunger: for these pine away, stricken through for want of the fruits of the field.

    God will feed his troops!

The battle for this city has begun. The God of the heavens is our captain. There will be casualty but the reward for the marters is much greater than what we could gain in this life. The natural provision of this life fails to compare with what God has waiting for us in glory. So fear not and be not hungry for God is leading this charge and he is also our reward!

  9. 5 They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.

    From riches to rags.

This is what sin will do. It will turn the life that you loved living into a life that you thought you would never see. You would do things that you thought you would never do. As a prisoner bound by chains, so are we when we sin. If we do not turn away from sin; the penilty is the death sentence. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  10. THE HIGH COST OF SELF WILL

1 How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.
2 The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!

Each believer is faced with the opportunity to TRUST and OBEY or doubt and be deceived. We have witnessed over the past month in reading through Jeremiah and now Lamentations the grueling reality of the ignored TRUTH that the judgement of GOD is just as REAL as the LOVE of GOD. It is a very serious matter to GOD when we refuse to recognize him, his word and his principals and statutes.

We have witnessed the fall of the “apple of his eye” to become the despised of his heart. Following false prophets and worshipping idols have brought Israel to destruction.

Paul teaches in Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Israel refused correction, instruction and counsel while performing and following their own SELF WILL and what they wanted, when they wanted, how they wanted. We MUST check our WILL to ensure that MY WILL is SUBMITTED to and ALIGNED with the WILL of GOD, the WORD of GOD and the MAN of GOD.

  11. 4 The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man breaketh it unto them.

How long will we ingnore the children. They’re hungry and we just pass them by. God is calling all care takers to step up and feed the children. If you have the Holy Ghost, then you are now a care taker. It’s no longer about what I can do for myself, but it’s what can I do for others that will help the kingdom of God grow. Let us not neglect the children, but let’s embrace them and make sure they get the nutrition they need in order to survive.

  12. MSG – 3 But my people have turned cruel to their babies,
like an ostrich in the wilderness. 4 Babies have nothing to drink.
Their tongues stick to the roofs of their mouths. Little children ask for bread but no one gives them so much as a crust.

As I read this chapter this morning, my mind was turned to our new babes in Christ. We, the church are responsible to see that they are cared for spiritually: fed, changed, diapered, pampered, warmed, loved. We cannot stick our heads in the sand and expect them to grow on their own without our assistance. The mature saints must become the Godly example, teaching, training, leading, feeding, sharing, caring, loving them, praying for them, and most of all being their friend, until they are able to stand on their own and disciple others. My prayer today is that God would develop a love for the new babes in each of our hearts, and turn us from being self-centered that others will be given the opportunity to mature in Christ like we were.

  13. 6 For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.

The punishment for sodom happened all at once, judgement was poured out and a city burned. The chosen people however had a long lasting punishment. It was an attempt to teach them and turn them back to God. God always left a remnant to rebuild His people but he had to get them to repent of their sins and return to their first love.

  14. 21 Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked
-although things don’t turn out the way we expect it to we just have to put that smile on and keep doing what were doing and when that day comes that our lord will line us up and he’ll be the one to tell us what we done , should’ve done or could’ve done he loves us nomatter what but we gotta be the one to step up our game and do what we came to do and even though people might hurt us or say something that kinnda affects us we brush it of when our lord was accused of so many things he didn’t do nothing but prayed for them and he probly wonted to give up but didn’t because he loves us and would wonts us to do the same thing..we’ve come to far to give up NOW…..
-I LOVE YOU LORD AND I THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO YOUR AMAZINGLY AWESOME XOXOXOXOX TE AMO PAPI CON TODO MI CORAZON

  15. (KJV)
Vs.5, “They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.”
Vs.7, “Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire:”
Vs.8, “Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.”

    (MSG)
Vs.5, “People used to the finest cuisine forage for food in the streets. People used to the latest in fashions pick through the trash for something to wear.”
Vs.7, “The splendid and the sacred nobles once glowed with health. Their bodies were robust and ruddy, their beards like carved stone.”
Vs.8, “But now they are smeared with soot, unrecognizable in the street. Their bones sticking out, their skin dried out like old leather.”

SIN will cost you big time!
This passage of scripture brought an old saying to mind. “Sin will take you further than you want to go, Keep you longer than you want to stay, and Cost you more than you want to pay.”

  16. What sin is holding you back?
Having sin in our lives will cause I not to have a relationship with God. God cannot live in our temple if we have sin. Its time to search our hearts mind and soul and do house cleaning. I have always heard you cannot hide your sin. But if you do not do so, then take note, you have sinned against the Lord; and be sure your sin will find you out. NKJV Numbers 32:23
We can hide from other people but you can’t hide from God.

  17. Exaggeration-Stop looking at the physical and look at the spiritual

6 For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.

Here the poet exaggerates the punishment they receive by focusing merely on the physical punishment. Sodom was doomed within moments and had no hope for redemption. This punishment, even though lasting for awhile, still left room for the hope of redemption. Often times we get blinded by what is immediately before us and fail to see the grace that is keeping us alive. Regardless of circumstance, if I am still able to breath, there is grace on my life that is giving me another change to make things right.

  18. 4 The tongue of the nursing babe cleaves to the roof of its mouth because of thirst; the young children beg for food, but no one gives it to them. (AMP)

It is our job to spiritually feed and care for children and new believers of the church. We must put ourselves aside, make sure we are spiritually healthy and doing good so that we can tend to the needs and help those who are thirsty and seeking after God and His word.

  19. Punishment

Although both Sodom and Jerusalem experience death and destruction, the ongoing suffering of the residents of Jerusalem seem greater than the swift judgment pronounced on the wayward men and women of Sodom (Gen 19:24:25). Each day reminds the Babylonians captives that their own sin has caused their current anguish. God had given them repeated opportunities to repent, but they decided to ignore the prophet’s warnings and turned their backs on God’s love (2 Ch 36:15-26). The Israelites lose everything: their reputation as a powerful nation, their health, their freedom, their livelihoods, their families, their self-esteem. Circumstances become so devestating during the seige of Jerusalem that starvation crazed mothers resort to eating their own children (vs10). The wicked citizens of Sodom experienced swift and absolute annihlation, but the captured Isrealites know the prolonged agony of feeling powerless and unprotected by God.

Jesus explained in Matt 10:14″And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. 15Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.” That those who reject his disciples and gospel, will have judgment worse than Sodom.” Sodom’s judgment was swift because those who were judged did not know, nor where the chosen people of God. Abraham pleaded for its righteous to be spared, and that meant only the family of Lot. God will spare his children, and punish them when they slip off into sin. He does this because He loves us and wants to see us grow in Him, not in sin. Completely rejecting Him all together makes a child of God worse than the heathen of Sodom or Gomorrha who didn’t know God at all.

  20. The people who once ate the richest foods now beg in the streets for anything they can get. Those who once wore the finest clothes now search the garbage dumps for food. But now their faces are blacker than soot. No one recognizes them in the streets. Their skin sticks to their bones; it is as dry and hard as wood. Yet it happened because of the sins of her prophets and the sins of her priests, who defiled the city by shedding innocent blood. The Lord himself has scattered them, and he no longer helps them. People show no respect for the priests and no longer honor the leaders. (Lamentations 4:5, 8, 13, 16 NLT)
Sin has separated man from his GOD.
THE WAGES of sin is DEATH!! Everyday we choose to live or die. I choose to live. Have I been toted to sin? Well YES, but, thank God for His word that says No..”You can’t touch that.” It’s my desire to please my God, to be obedient. He holds my life in His hands.

  21. This chapter illustrates recompense. Their reward for sin was told. One is wise to repent while one has breath, for there is a reward for sin; “For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  22. Sin changes things and being bound will ruin your life. There is no middle area in life, it’s either right or wrong. Finding the right people in life to encourage and pull you out of that lifestyle is crucial. I thank God for the pastor I have been blessed to be under and the guidance he gives!

  23. 11 The Lord hath accomplished his fury; he hath poured out his fierce anger, and hath kindled a fire in Zion, and it hath devoured the foundations thereof.
12 The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy should have entered into the gates of Jerusalem.

Israel not only received every bit of God’s punishment but they also were shamed in the process. Scripture shows their pride was the cause of their rebellion & they never considered the shame. I pray that I hear every warning & have a willing heart to obey. Help us Lord to be humble before your majesty.

  24. 1 How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.

6 For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.

These verses show the extreme anger and judgement that God was pouring out on these people. The end of verse six is translated ” and no hand turned to help her”… meaning that there was no one available or willing to help during this time of judgement. There was no escaping God’s wrath. We must be sure to repent of our sins and ask God to forgive us daily because he spirit “Will not always strive with man” We must stay prayed up and repented unless God judges us and no one will help us….

  25. 20 The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the Lord, was taken in their pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the heathen.

  26. What are we feeding ur babies?
3 Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness. 4 The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man breaketh it unto them.
I have been blessed recently to have spoken with someone who is still fairly we at POFW. They said hey can tell their personal growth. That mans they are eating spiritually. Some of the other members of the church are eating too, but what are we feeding them. Are we pushing our commitments on them? Are we trying to force feed our revelation into their meals? Are we neglecting their feeding because we are too busy in our own lives? The truth of the matter is that they will eat. The concern is where does their food come from and what does it consist of. When fed too quickly the baby will not understand what is happening.

  27. Untouchable

1 How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.

2 The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!

We all are capable of falling, and we often have more than one weak spot that can get us fast if we’re caught off guard. None if us are untouchable, but we have a tendency to live that way once we strike a groove of victory. There’s nothing wrong with living in confidence but we must be watchful for our souls.

    1 Corinthians 10:12-13
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

The key in escaping temptation lies in knowing that we can only avoid getting snared through God. It’s because He made a way of escape that we can flee it, not our own strength. Living “untouchable” points to self as the source of victory. While we certainly have to make the choice, we only have opportunity to do so because God gave it to us. Living in that reverence of how mighty God is and how helpless we are without Him helps us keep away from the edge. Like we heard preached at Fuel, it’s dangerous to live on the edge. It’s easy to get in too far, too deep when you assume you’ve got it under control and you’re untouchable.

  28. 3 Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.

4 The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man breaketh it unto them.

5 They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.

6 For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.

Don’t get so focused on the how much one does not like the correction that our natural duties are neglected. They abandoned the care of their babes. Seems like yet they were still being selfish. Woe is me look at all the bad that has happened to me. Then like a punished child comparing I was punished way harder that so and so… If I recall well there was none left to tell the story, save Lot and his children even his wife for looking back got turned into a statute. It is considered a blessing to suffer because if righteousness, but not because of ones own rebellion and disobedience.

  29. This chapter spoke to me about being spiritually healthy. If you aren’t, then how in the world can you expect to feed (or help) someone else. We are all servants of the Lord and can be used to care, help and lead someone closer to our Redeemer. Get healthy in his Word.
