Ezekiel 1

1 Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by the river of Chebar, that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.

In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of king Jehoiachin’s captivity,

The word of the Lord came expressly unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and the hand of the Lord was there upon him.

And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire.

Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.

And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings.

And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf’s foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass.

And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings.

Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward.

10 As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle.

11 Thus were their faces: and their wings were stretched upward; two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies.

12 And they went every one straight forward: whither the spirit was to go, they went; and they turned not when they went.

13 As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning.

14 And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning.

15 Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his four faces.

16 The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the colour of a beryl: and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel.

17 When they went, they went upon their four sides: and they turned not when they went.

18 As for their rings, they were so high that they were dreadful; and their rings were full of eyes round about them four.

19 And when the living creatures went, the wheels went by them: and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up.

20 Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither was their spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.

21 When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.

22 And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the colour of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above.

23 And under the firmament were their wings straight, the one toward the other: every one had two, which covered on this side, and every one had two, which covered on that side, their bodies.

24 And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the Almighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let down their wings.

25 And there was a voice from the firmament that was over their heads, when they stood, and had let down their wings.

26 And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.

27 And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about.

28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.

whaaahooo, steak early in the morning,

There was ONE throne HA! Jesus in the house and he had a ride cooler than the Popemobile.

The eagle is dominate over the air, the lion is dominate as an animal over the animals, the ox is dominate over tilling the land for man, the man is dominate over the beasts of the earth, and God is above all.

There is a deeper study of this as we turn it to the spiritual aspect of authority and power through praise=lion, work=ox, prayer=eagle always brings God onto the scene.

    • Brother, would the man part be outreach? Jesus did give his disciples the great commission

      Matthew 28:19
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

      • I am with Tiffany the man = outreach. Not to forget that they follow the Spirit, they went forward… We have been called to go forward never back, not to deviate from the Holy Ghost, go forward and posses the land. POFW FORWARD MARCH.

      • amen. (Matthew 11:12 KJV) And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

we are dominate over the enemy through Jesus and that is outreach…taking souls by force

  3. 12 And they went every one straight forward: whither the spirit was to go, they went; and they turned not when they went.

Each moved straight ahead – wherever the spirit would go, they would go, without turning as they went. -Ezekiel 1:12

It is the Spirit of God that leads us through life. He knows the paths we should take. Trust the one who guides you. Don’t trust the path but the one who leads down the path. Sometimes along the way we have to climb, sometimes we have to tunnel through but just keep following. Turn not to the side just follow your guide.

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. -John 16:13

  4. 14 And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning.

They carried out God’s will in an instant and were back, obediently awaiting the next command. Sometimes we are pleading and begging for God to do something and the angel he used has already ministered to our need and is off on another mission. When Lucifer fell, it was just as quick – There’s nothing slow about God!

  5. Several times in the scriptures today it says that the creatures did not turn, but they only went straight. That is the way it should be with us. We should never have to turn from what we are doing to do God’s will. He will always have us going in his direction. We might go to the side, but not turn. Keep focused on The Lord and you will stay in his will.

  6. 4 And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire.

27 And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about.

In the midst of the fire.

We so often complain about going through the fire that we sometimes we forget who dwells in the fire. Ezekiel saw God appear here in fire. The children of Israel were accompanied by pillar of smoke and a cloud of fire as they left Egypt. The fire was a physical guidance for where God wanted them to go. Likewise Gods word guides us

    Jeremiah 20:9
Then I said, I will not make mention of him,
nor speak any more in his name.
But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones,
and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

We do not have a physical burning fire guiding our steps today but we do have Gods word available to us that has the directions we need.

    John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

We can rest assured that if Gods spirit burns as a fire then when we receive his spirit it will burn within us. That’s why accepting Jesus as our personal savior will not be enough.

    Acts 2:3-4
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

The evidence is in the fire. Alongside Gods word we have the gift of the Holy Ghost to lead and guide us into Gods ways.

    Lastly we have this:
    Zechariah 13:9
And I will bring the third part through the fire,
and will refine them as silver is refined,
and will try them as gold is tried:
they shall call on my name, and I will hear them:
I will say, It is my people:
and they shall say, The Lord is my God.

God brings His people through the fire to refine and purify us. It is our faithfulness through the fiery trials that proves we our His. If you are going through the fire today, rejoice! And press on.

  7. In HIS Glory

28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.

To be in front of His Glory… I can only imagine, just like in the song, what would you do? Fall on your knees or dance before His Throne?

  8. 26 And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.

There is one throne with one man on it.

  9. 28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.

    I can only imagine.

What will we do, when we see Jesus? We will be in awe. We will bow down in the presence and worship. What a testiment to what we will see. It’s time to wake up and see what is happening all around us. Everyday is one day closer to the return of Jesus.

  10. 28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.

His glory is so powerful, he is the Almighty and I can’t help but stop and praise him because he knows who we are and what we’re going through, he’s not some King that is too good for us but instead he loves us so much he died for US. Hallelujah for the Almighty, All Powerful, All Knowing King of kings. Hallelujah

THANK YOU JESUS FOR EVERYTHING TE AMO JESUS

  12. The spirit of the Lord came to Ezekiel in the whirlwind of a vision. God was going to commission him to be the messenger to the people. He had hear, see and feel what the Lord was telling him in order to communicate clearly to the people. This is an example to us as Godly christians. Our lives communicate to those we are around every day our relationship with God. We must hear Him, through His word. We must see Him through the spirit in prayer and we must feel Him everyday through our daily relationship with Him. We cannot lead others some place we haven’t been. Ezekiel’s job was going to be a great task likewise our responsibility every day is a great task to be JESUS to everyone we meet.

  13. The Attitude of an Angel

    Ezekiel 1:14
And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning.

We have heard it preached before that lucifer fell from a position currently occupied by the church. We are praisers, worshippers, and we reflect the glory of God.

The word Angel means minister, or messenger.

As God gives direction to his hosts they respond with a quickness like lightning. Once they have completed their task they come right back for their next order.

I believe this is the attitude that we as children of God should possess. We should have such a close relationship with God that as Bro. Mark Morgan has preached we receive our orders from the day and then accomplish the will of the King!

It’s amazing! No questioning, no pondering, and no thinking about it. Just immediate accomplishment of the will of God!

What could happen if we all possessed this attitude in working at the church? Living at home? On the job? At school?

    Simply put THY KINGDOM COME!

  14. PRAISE THE LORD

The VISION the LORD showed Ezekiel vividly reminds me of the Spirtual activity that occurs when we, HIS chosen people, the Church engage in an opportunity to PRAISE THE LORD.

Verse 22 The LIghts and Reflections would represent the creative appearance of Lucifer the angel of light at his created state. This reveals to us the angelic activity that occurs when we are actively involved in a Praise and Worship service.

Verse 24 indicates that as we PRAISE THE LORD that the voice of the LORD is actively speaking and at this season is one of the most opportunistic times to hear and receive a WORD from the LORD.

Verse 26 confirms the Spiritual Authority that occurs when we PRAISE THE LORD as the Psalmist described in:

Psalms 22:3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

inhabitest – indicates to sit down as a ruler on a throne, to be seated with authority, as a judge.

PRAISE THE LORD is the way of ESCAPE for the believer out of trouble.
20 Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither was their spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.

    Consider:
John 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

GOD possesses the unique power and ability to transport us out of turmoil and trouble into HIS pavilion of PEACE.

    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  15. I like this chapter it describes a picture of who God is. And its wonderful and powerful. I love you Jesus and I want to to be with me always in everything I do. thank you for the church to teach us about a holy life for you and we as your children can be also. Daughter like Father—- 🙂

  16. Wow…how can you personally describe such an event. Talking about being in awe! What a wonderful God we serve, and he is awesome! He has all the Power we need.

    “Be Blessed”………………………………

  17. 28 All around him was a glowing halo, like a rainbow shining in the clouds on a rainy day. This is what the glory of the Lord looked like to me. When I saw it, I fell face down on the ground, and I heard someone’s voice speaking to me. (NLT)

Wow!! The song “I Can Only Imagine” comes to mind… Just wow!!

  18. 27 And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about.

28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake

What a vivid picture that the prophet is painting for us. Although we cannot always see the spiritual aspects of the battle going on all around us at all times, as we read this, we see that it is happening…

  19. Vs.12, “And they went every one straight forward: whither the spirit was to go, they went; and they turned not when they went.”

Prov. 4:25, “Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.”
Prov. 4:26, “Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.”
Prov. 4:27, “Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.”

We need to walk after the Spirit so that we can mind the things of the Spirit. (Rom.8:5) We need to keep our eyes focused on Jesus, because when we do, he will lead us on the right pathway. When we take our eyes off of Jesus, we begin to look around, to the right and to the left, and we get distracted by life, and we have a tendancy to fall.

This song came to my mind as I was writing this.
    Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in his wonderful face,
    And the things of earth,
    Will grow strangely dim,
In the light of his glory and grace.

  20. We say we want to be used by God and grow stronger in Him but too many of us are not willing to go through the crushing process. If we want to be used by God and ask Him to help us grow than we need to be willing to go through the process.
Lord give me the strength to go through the crushing process and lean on you!

  21. 28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.

  22. 25-28 And then, as they stood with folded wings, there was a voice from above the dome over their heads. Above the dome there was something that looked like a throne, sky-blue like a sapphire, with a humanlike figure towering above the throne. From what I could see, from the waist up he looked like burnished bronze and from the waist down like a blazing fire. Brightness everywhere! The way a rainbow springs out of the sky on a rainy day—that’s what it was like. It turned out to be the Glory of God!

When I saw all this, I fell to my knees, my face to the ground. Then I heard a voice. MSG

I don’t want to be so busy that I don’t hear the voice of the Lord.

  23. Creation-Changing the world with Purpose

5 Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.

6 And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings.

7 And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf’s foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass.

8 And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings.

9 Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward.

10 As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle.

Four is the number for creation and the number of man in his place in creation. Keep that in mind. Four creatures with four faces and four wings. The wings are a symbol of strength, and these wings are joined together-unity. When we are united, it is hard to turn from the way you are going. That is why in war when the soldiers would disperse they were commanded to unite together. This unity demolishes confusion.

The face of the man and lion are specified to be on the right side. This is side of power. Lion-praise or more specifically Jesus, the lion of the tribe of Judah, and the face of man would be us. By default the ox and eagle are on the left. The Ox was used for work, and the eagle is a symbol of strength. Strong work. This to me shows work that is more than just work, it is strong. Therefore, it is work that has purpose and discipline. Strength comes from repetition over a long period of time.

    What does all this mean?

When we get united with God in praise we are able to work with authority and purpose. These four things will unite and in unity will birth the creation of something. The creation of faith, the miraculous, or whatever is needed for the prevision of a specified need.

Someone mentioned that the eagle was prayer. The eagle means strength so where do we get our strength? In prayer, but not just in any prayer. Prayer that takes work. Prayer that takes dedication. It is the type of prayer seen in Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. (ESV)

    We unite
    We pray
    We work
    We Create!!

We change this world and everything in it.

    • Not everyone will read this link so I want to add this excerpt from it as food for thought.

They are the four heads of animal creation: the lion, of wild beasts; the ox, of tame beasts; the eagle, of birds; and man the head of all. Again we have the four divided into 3 + 1: three animal, and one human. They mark the purpose of God from the moment the curse was pronounced, and are the pledge that it will one day be removed.

  24. Even the winds and the seas obeyed God. These creatures where ever so strong but they knew their Creator and know that the GOD of heaven is much more mightier than them. Who am I to think its alright not to obey God’s command. #servingamightyGod

  25. This chapter illustrates openness. Ezekiel was able to see, because he was reachable. One may see great sights, if one will be reachable, open unto the Lord (Jesus); “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  26. 28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.

As I read this chapter I tried to imagine seeing God for the first time. There will be so much to take in all at once I suppose, but when I see Jesus on his throne all I will want to do is fall upon my face before him. I praise you!

  27. 28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.

What a glorious day!! When we get to see the King, when we get to stand in His presence and His glory fills everything! As I tried to put together the images of what ezikiel saw I was just amazed that there are even things that are yet to bee discovered. They are things that no eye has seen or ear heard. However what also stood out to me was how they followed the spirit. The creatures were in sync and moved when the Spirit moved. That Is a perfect example of submission.

20 Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither was their spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.

If we want to get to see amazing things and see the King on His glorious day we must be in sync with the Spirit.

That’s more reasons to acknowledge God on all things that He may direct our paths.

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

  28. Stop & Listen

28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.

There is a proper response to the presence of the Lord, but unfortunately too easily we treat it like a reaction and miss God. A reaction is something produced by an action, while a response is choice acted upon in consideration of an action. The glory of the Lord calls for a response. If we’re waiting for God to move us, we’ll find ourselves sorely disappointed in our encounters with Him.

When God showed up, Ezekiel responded by stopping and listening. He dropped down in humility and surrender and his attention was tuned so that he heard what was spoken. There is power when we already have made up in our minds that when the Presence comes, we stop and listen. We must choose to cast off cares and weights, distractions, burdens; we must turn from sin and leave it behind. As we prepare for the time of encounter, we can experience what God desires for us.

In the garden, Adam and Eve had a time of communion with God each day. He walked with them and visited them. He wasn’t some mystical, distant diety, but a very real presence in their daily lives. The more we prepare and open ourselves to Jesus, the more of Him we can experience. We must not think to approach God as Him “withholding Himself” if He’s distant (though there are seasons when He feels distant.) Rather, we should first look to ourselves and see what we’ve allowed to be in the way and remove it.

Having a time of communion with God should not be seen as a happy accident or random chance but a choice of preparation and response to the already stated desire of God to have relationship with us.

    Jeremiah 29:13
And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

    Esther 4:15 – 5:3
15 Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer, 16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law:and if I perish, I perish. 17 So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him. (Chapter 5) 1 Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, over against the king’s house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house. 2 And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre. 3 Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom.

  29. Each had a human face in the front, the face of a lion on the right side, the face of an ox on the left side, and the face of an eagle at the back. Each had two pairs of outstretched wings—one pair stretched out to touch the wings of the living beings on either side of it, and the other pair covered its body. (Ezekiel 1:10, 11 NLT)

Who’s like our God! Holy are you Lord.

The first of these living beings was like a lion; the second was like an ox; the third had a human face; and the fourth was like an eagle in flight. Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered all over with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty— the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.” (Revelation 4:7, 8 NLT)

  30. With little fanfare Ezekiel announces his year, the point in history, his location- and then these fantastic words: the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God”

Ezekiel’s vision, though bizarre and difficult to visualize, have messages that are pertinent to us today as well as to the exiles to whom he preaches. Had he been in Jerusalem rather than in exile in Babylon, Ezekiel would probably have begun his priestly duties in this, his thirtieth year. Instead, God calls him into a minsistry of prophecy to proclaim to the captives the message that God will judge Jerusalem- it will be destroyed. But after that message of despair, when word was recieved that Jerusalem had fallen, the rest of the book of Ezekiel offers a message of hope: Though the people are judged, they are not forsaken; though they have sinned, there is forgiveness and a dazzling promise for their future: “I will make a covenant of peace with them.. I will send down showers… of blessings” (Eze 34 25-26), and the people will live in a city with an extraordinary name: The Lord is there (Eze 48:35).
