Ezekiel 14

1 Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me.

2 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

3 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?

4 Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the Lord will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;

5 That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.

6 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

7 For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to enquire of him concerning me; I theLord will answer him by myself:

8 And I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.

9 And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the Lord have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

10 And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh unto him;

11 That the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither be polluted any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the LordGod.

12 The word of the Lord came again to me, saying,

13 Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:

14 Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord God.

15 If I cause noisome beasts to pass through the land, and they spoil it, so that it be desolate, that no man may pass through because of the beasts:

16 Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters; they only shall be delivered, but the land shall be desolate.

17 Or if I bring a sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off man and beast from it:

18 Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only shall be delivered themselves.

19 Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast:

20 Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

21 For thus saith the Lord God; How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast?

22 Yet, behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.

23 And they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings: and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord God.

  1. In this scripture, is another chapter of God’s judgement against idolatry. He is the one only true God, and besides him there is no other that can save. And in these three are one, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit. “Word made flesh – Jesus”

    Add’tl Ref. John 1:1

    “Be blessed”……………..

  2. I love you Jesus then and now. Thank u for this scripture.
    2 corinthians 10:3
. for thou we walked in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
If u have any idols or anything that puts Them first before God tear them down quick. Because God is a good God and we,I dont want Him angry.
    I love you Jesus.

  3. God will take care of those that truly follow him no matter what is happening around them. We must make sure we ourselves are saved. No one else can save us or we them. Phillipians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

  4. Who’s your Daddy??

20 Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

In the time of judgement it is not going to matter who your daddy is. God is speaking clearly, reminding them that at other times when He came and destroyed by judgement He delivered the whole family; but enough is enough! This time He is informing Israel that they will be judged according to their iniquities and who their daddy is will not influence Him at all. My daughter will not be saved by my faith and works, she is going to have to seek repentance for herself, get baptized for herself, and receive the Holy Ghost for herself; the fact that we have been in church for 25 years will not save her from judgement. Open your eyes, and seek God for your own self for you will not go to heaven by the lineage of your parents.

  5. This chapter spoke to me about “embracing and holding on to God”. We must make a choice, you either serve God or the devil. You can not serve God and still hold onto things that are not of God. Ezekiel is encouraging the people to turn back to the Lord in this chapter as verse 6 NLT says “Therefore, tell the people of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Repent and turn away from your idols, and stop all your detestable sins.” If you have to question something in your life, ask this “Is it bringing me closer to God or not?”…..there is your answer!

  6. 22 Yet, behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.

We may not understand God’s plan or His way of doing things; but when it all works out and we see the end result, it makes sense and we are reminded again that His way is the right way and we must be patient and trust in Him.

  7. Set before their face

    Ezekiel 14:7–8 (AV 1873)
7 For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to inquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself: 8 and I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

Iniquity – the act of choosing that which is contrary to the will of God. Taking control of one’s life contrary to the will of God. Lawlessness, perversion, Sin.

Think about what many set before their faces.

“Buy this! Do this! Wear this! Watch this! Live like this!, etc.”

Today I see media in a new light. Anything that we partake in that speaks a message contrary to God is a stumbling block of iniquity. The proverbial preaching that exudes can cause us to be influenced to the place that we act like, speak like, look like, and become like that we set in front of us.

We MUST be careful what we allow our eyes to see. Everyone of us are still human, and are not too big, too tough, or too mature to filter the good, and the bad. What we perceive goes into the mind, then into the heart, and out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. This doesn’t just mean communication, but lifestyle.

David said this Psalm 101:3 (AV 1873)
3  I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes:
I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

set – to put place station and fix, ordain, establish

Instead we should set before us his word.

    Psalm 119:11 (AV 1873)
11  Thy word have I hid in mine heart,
That I might not sin against thee.

What can happen to us when we set him before our face?

    Exodus 34:29 (AV 1873)
29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of Testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.

  8. SANTO SANTO SANTO!!!
3 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?
    4 Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the Lord will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;
I GUESS THEY FORGOT THAT GOS IS THE ONLY WAY, TRUTH AND THE LIFE!!!
GOD IS SO MERCIFUL THAT BY HIS WORD TOLD THEM TO REPENT!!!
GOD IS SOOOO GOOD!!! I LOVE YOU DADDY!!! THANK YOU JESUS!!! THERE IS NO ONE LIKE YOU!!!

  9. 3 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?

    Nobody Got Time For That!

God is Holy. He is Just. He is righteous. He is but 1 Lord, not three. He is a jealous God. So why do wethink that He has time for us to be serving some idol all day long, and just pray our short wish list to Him before we go to bed?

We as the church need to take a look at our lives and check our hearts to see if we too have idols set before our faces. While we might not have some statue set out in a corner, or an entire wall dedicated as a shrine to some person or thing, but if we “cannot live” without something, or someone then that would be an idol.

As the true church, we must realize the only thing we cannot live without is Jesus, and somehow we must convey that to the hurting and lost millions of people who are all around us…

  10. What is more important to you than God is there anything that captivates your mind and energy more than God? An idol is anything so important to your life that, that is consumes your time and energy. An idol has such a controlling position in your heart that you can spend most of your passion and energy, your emotional and financial resources, on it without a second thought. It can be family and children, or career and making money. It can be a romantic relationship, peer approval, competence and skill, secure and comfortable circumstances, your beauty or your brains, your morality and virtue, or even success in the Christian ministry. When your purpose in life is to fix someone else’s life, we may call it “codependency” but it is really idolatry. An idol is whatever you look at and say, in your heart of hearts, If I have that, then I’ll feel my life has meaning, then I’ll know I have value, then I’ll feel significant and secure.

  11. 23 And they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings: and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord God.
God has a purpose for everything. He has reasons for what is done. When we act as children of the father instead of servants in the house we have a better knowledge of what is happening and why it happens.

  12. iLove to eat the Word

20 Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

God is basically saying that it doesn’t matter who we are and how righteous we are, we cannot save anyone. We can keep ourselves saved by living righteous, but every person is responsible for their own repentance and their own salvation.

  13. What goes on in our houses are so important. If we, Holy Ghost filled people, allow idols to be set up in our homes (idol: a representation or symbol of an object of worship; broadly : a false god) it may not be a hinderance to us, because we have the power to overcome and stay connected to the source of power, but it may be a hinderance to our family. According to this chapter today, even the good works of righteousness of Noah, Daniel and Job couldn’t rescue their families once judgement came.

We must take responsibility for what we allow in our homes. Our children are a heritage of the Lord and our responsibility to see that they are raised with Godly morals, values and principles, but most importantly Godly disciplines that is going to establish their relationship with the Lord. As parents it is our responsibility for them to not only see us pray and read the Word, but to bring them along side of us and teach them to do the same. Teach them to get their own daily bread from the Word of God, and hear what the spirit is saying on a daily basis. We should never allow idol time with video games, movies, Facebook, sports, etc, until we have ensured they have spent time with Jesus. Time spent in His presence would greatly effect how much time is spent doing the other things because their perspective would be entirely different after exiting a prayer meeting, or time spent in the word.

  14. REPENT

6 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

The cry of the LORD since the fall of man has been REPENT. It is apparent that Ezekiel has questioned the strong, stern judgement of GOD; I can understand the reason for his concern, having witnessed all the death and destruction of GOD’s beloved people.

We must remember the FIRST choice of the LORD is REPENT not destroy. The clear, strong, loud call to REPENT must be proclaimed, heard and obeyed around the world today.

The day of judgement is coming where not only cities will be destroyed, but the entire world that GOD has created, HE will destroy because of the wickedness, rebellion and idolatry.

Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Luke 13:5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

    Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

Acts 8:22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.

Acts 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

Revelation 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

    Today is the day!

    NOW is the TIME!

Hebrews 4:7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  15. 23 And they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings: and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord God.

Sometimes we need a sign. Something to show us that we are still in the path of God. We need a Comforter. Jesus is that sign and comfort. For Ezekiel it was Noah ,Daniel ,and Job. Knowing there stories and how God did not leave them. Jesus is that comfort for us. He is the sign that God loves us ,to die for us. To take the sin off the whole world to put it on himself, and take it to the grave. Thank God for sending the Comforter to us.

  16. 14 Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord God.

It doesn’t matter who we know, are related to, who are pastor is, what matters is our walk with God. We cannot and will not be saved because of someone else’s righteousness. We cannot ride someone’s coat tail to heaven. We personally have to build our own relationship with Jesus and choose to live according to His word or against it.

    Philippians 2:12
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

  17. I agree sis watts about everything u said today I will surrender to the King of Kings his name is Jesus. Getting rid of the idols in Jesus name. Facebook ect.

  18. 6 “Therefore, tell the people of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Repent and turn away from your idols, and stop all your detestable sins. (NLT)

  19. Protected

11 That the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither be polluted any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord God.

Jesus is serious about protecting His church, about keep His people holy unto Him. Unfortunately, sometimes we misinterpret all of what God does to keep us safe as instead being harsh, unloving, restrictive, etc. It is a great blessing to us to lay down our understanding and seek to see through God’s eyes. When we allow Him to instill His mind in us, we can avoid a lot of pitfalls by not unintentionally resisting the protection of God. Understanding is key in walking in right relationship with God.

    Proverbs 16:16-25
16 How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver! 17 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul. 18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. 19 Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. 20 He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he. 21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning. 22 Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly. 23 The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips. 24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. 25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death

  20. 4 Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the Lord will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;

God doesn’t preach “tickle your ear messages”. If you are truly seeking Gods will on something, take it to HIM.
Quit running to everyone who you think will agree with you. Taking all your burdens to your Pastor is not the answer, he is not your savior, Jesus is. Go seek the Mighty God in Jesus first. The reason people don’t do that is because they can’t rebuke God. Rev Ramon Woodward said today people don’t want a word from God because they can’t argue with it. You can say ” well my brother missed it or maybe even my Pastor missed it but you can’t say God missed it! My prayer is that we all would seek The Lord first especially in decisions that effect our church. We have enough opposition from the world that we don’t need any from the saints. Pray up POFW because if you don’t have a relationship with Jesus there is no way that you can understand what is about to happen here.

  21. God is a Jealous God and whatever you put before God is an Idol. It can be your house, car, money, gold or silver. You dont have to go to heathen lands today to find false Gods. This day and age we live in its full of them. Whatever you love more than God is an idol.

  22. What is in the heart?

3 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?

The elders of Israel were guilty of idolatry in their hearts and were not loyal to God’s word. They desired to live an ungodly life; therefore, God refused to guild them by answering their prayers. Just like today, those who seek God’s guidance will find no such thing if their hearts are full of ungodly desires and the sin of this world. God knows the heart. “I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.” Jer 17:10

  23. This chapter illustrates inward. Their inward part was not forthcoming. One must be open with God (Jesus), and truthful with one’s self, first; “Thus saith the Lord God; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  24. “Therefore, tell the people of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Repent and turn away from your idols, and stop all your detestable sins. (Ezekiel 14:6 NLT)

Thankful for The Lords grace and mercy!

  25. 6. Therefore say unto the house of Is’- ra-el, Thus saith the Lord GOD ; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations. 7.For every one of the house of Is’ra-el, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Is-ra-el, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to enquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself: 8.And I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

  26. In this chapter we see again the judgement of the against rebellious idolatrous people. Two things that stood out is God’s love and mercy once again having a warning from the man of God and a space for repentance.
6 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

And then we see how the Lord expects everyone to have a personal relationship with Him. Every one to cast down their idols, their own righteousness will save them. Salvation is an individual thing. Not because my father or mother or uncle, grandfather or anyone in my family was a great mighty person in God will grant me a place away from the wrath if I I’m not living righteous before the eyes of the Lord. The only thing we are previlleged to have is the power of choice. We choose how to live our lives. The Lord will speak to us, warn and give direction. It is how we react. He will ask his people to repent and cast down the idols. I see great love in that. I don’t want to harm you just turn away from evil and return to me. That is a loving God. Thank you Jesus

20 Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

  27. God will look out for His children when we do right by Him. Faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains and faith in God is stronger than any barrier!

  28. 14 Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord God.

Our parents, siblings, and 5 fold ministry cannot save us come the day of the Lord. It will be in the twinkling of an eye. People will be working in the field, one will be taken, and another left. We can make it to heaven judgment day and hear Jesus say he never knew us. We are responsible for the condition of our own righteousness before God. Noah, Daniel, and Job are the only souls that can be delivered when Jesus comes. Abraham interceeded for Lot and his family, but a judgment will come where the oil in our lamps will determine our eternal home.

  29. 3 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?

    4 Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the Lord will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;

Lord Jesus I thank you cuz I know you moving inside of me Every Idle every thought everything that does not glorified you Lord, You’ve been so good to me.
