Ezekiel 15

1 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

2 Son of man, what is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest?

3 Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?

4 Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire devoureth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned. Is it meet for any work?

5 Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less shall it be meet yet for any work, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is burned?

6 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; As the vine tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

7 And I will set my face against them; they shall go out from one fire, and another fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I set my face against them.

8 And I will make the land desolate, because they have committed a trespass, saith the LordGod.

  1. The Danger of Fruitlessness

    Ezekiel 15:2–4 (AV 1873)
2 Son of man, What is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest? 3 Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon? 4 Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire devoureth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burnt. Is it meet for any work?

    Genesis 49:22 (AV 1873)
22  Joseph is a fruitful bough,
    Even a fruitful bough by a well;
Whose branches run over the wall.

    Luke 3:9 (AV 1873)
9 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

    John 15:16 (AV 1873)
16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that you should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Bro. Bower taught us last night the great commission cries for us to go! Yet picked fruit not properly cared for will rot. Not only are we commanded to Go! but also that our fruit remain.

What a shame for us to have baskets full of fruit, but no intention of caring for the harvest. Instead we are to make disciples: disciplined mature believers in Christ. We are also to travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you Galatians 4:19

When the Master returns to ask us to give account we can only show him fruit that remained. Only the fruit we took care of. It is amazing to enjoy a bountiful harvest, but the work has only just begun to see them grow in the fullness, measure, and stature of Christ.

  2. Flimsy

Have you ever looked at a vine wood, it is flimsy, you can bend it this way and the other and it don’t really break. It is not strong enough to build anything with, and it is not strong enough to sustain anything. The only good thing is that it burns easily so you can use it as fire starter. God is telling Israel that they are not bearing any fruit, that they are not good for nothing. Even if He were to put them through the fire it won’t even last that long in it. They lack substance. Lord help us bear fruit so we won’t be discarded to the fire. Help our faith grow so we can have substance in our being so if we do have to go through the fire, we won’t just burn away. Help us have a strong Faith not a flimsy kind of Faith that will fall and bend for anything. In Jesus Name AMEN.

  3. iLove to eat the Word

3 Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?

Let’s be vessels of honor and let’s “work” at this last hour so that there is no confusion as to who we are. We are the plants of The Lord, but we are not a cursed thorny vine.

To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified. (Isaiah 61:3 KJV)

  4. 2 Son of man, what is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest?

3 Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?

4 Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire devoureth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned. Is it meet for any work?

    John 15:1-7
I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away:and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches:He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit:for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

There is a stark contrast between these scriptures. The vine tree has such a negative context in today’s chapter but Jesus compares himself and believers to it! Jesus used the imagery of the vine for a better understanding of how the kingdom works. Branches that died, ceased to bear fruit, withered and were then cast into fire. Even though the tree didn’t seem good for work ( building or any other uses besides fuel) we can gather that they kept these trees, God himself is our spiritual husbandman keeping and purging each of us and shaking off each of us from the body that has dried up. As long as we are plugged into Christ and bearing fruit we are a part of the body! We may go through a purging but with the promise of more!
The world may not see a use for the church but God does! As long as the church is producing fruit it will be around 🙂
Without Christ we are nothing, we must stay Christ centered to survive. When going through life’s trials that burn us I must ask myself honestly, am I just being purged to grow more? Or have I let go of God as my vine and I’m withered and being thrown in the fire? Gods will is not burn out, it’s fruit.

  5. 7 And I will set my face against them; they shall go out from one fire, and another fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I set my face against them.

One day God will pour out his rath upon all flesh. We can’t begin to imagine what that day will be like. This is why we need to get our hearts right today.

  6. SANTO SANTO SANTO!!!
7 And I will set my face against them; they shall go out from one fire, and another fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I set my face against them.
REALLY!?! look at all the destruction and no repentance to be found!!! I thank YOU JESUS FOR GREAT MERCY….. YOU ARE AMAZING AND THERE IS NONE LIKE YOU DADDY!!! HALELUJAH!!!

  7. 2 Son of man, what is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest?
3 Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?

    The Lone Ranger

No man is perfect save Jesus. We are all mirely putty in the Master’s hands. So, why do we think that we are so special as to have to be used, or to say that God needs me? He used a burning bush, a donkey, and a man who could not talk without getting all tongue tied, so again who are we?

While we are the chosen of God, hand picked, to do His will, He does not need us. He chose us because He wants to use us, because He loves us dearly, but when we get proud and haughty, we become as the vine twisted and brittle, and we are only good for kenneling, or getting someone else’s Holy Ghost fire started.

Someone rootede in the word, commited to the cause, and to their leaders, is strong and solid, capible of carring many tasks, and doing well. While someone who is proud, and haughty, full of themselves, take charge like the Lone Ranger, just to find that they are alone, and unable to accomplish even the simplest of tasks without someone else bailing them out.

We all want to be used by God, to reach souls and do His great exploits, but are we full of pride, or are we united? Only if we are and stay united are we going to be able to reach the souls of this reigion, and make a lasting impact…

  8. although we say things to those around us and we don’t mean it there are those we need to ask forgiveness for
we might not care about who we hurt and what we say but our God does he’s worthy of our praise and worship..
we gotta worship in every way off our struggles and let the devil know we’re not giving up not NOW and not EVER…. push aside what were going through and fight for what our good has bring us through not what the devils putting you through.. the devil has no power over us but God..8 live you Jesus thank you for your everlasting love and your beautiful presence thank you daddy

  9. THE ONLY HOPE OF THE VINE

2 Son of man, what is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest?
3 Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?

We learn here of the worthless expenditure of the branch. In the wisdom of GOD the reality is the pesky vine has no root system, therefore covers much ground but has minimal value. Its strength would not hold furniture together, or build a cabinet, neither a house or cart, nor anything of significant value.

THE ONLY HOPE OF THE VINE we find in the words of JESUS our savior.

John 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

We MUST get in HIM, know HIM through study of HIS WORD, and HE MUST be IN us through the GIFT and POWER of the HOLY GHOST. Fruit only comes by the SPIRIT relationship with JESUS.

THE ONLY HOPE OF THE VINE

Psalms 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Remain in CHRIST JESUS and be LIKE a TREE!

Thank you JESUS for this promise! You take worthless, hopeless, helpless vines and make us trees as we remain in YOU!

    iRepent
    iServe
    iRemain
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive

  10. 6. Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As the vine tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Je- ru’-sa-lem. 7. And I will set my face against them; they shall go out from one fire, and another fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I set my face against them. JUDGEMENT !

  11. 7 And I will set my face against them; they shall go out from one fire, and another fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I set my face against them.

It is sad day in the life of a christian when the fire of the Holy Ghost goes out. We must make preparation daily to keep the fire of the His spirit alive and burning in our lives: prayer, word, working in the Kingdom. I want to be consumed with the fire of His Spirit, and avoid being burned with an everlasting fire that no man can quench – eternity is forever.

  12. 4 Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire devoureth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned. Is it meet for any work?

When the fuel is out in this verse it means it is barrenness and ready to be cut down. What does that say to us as christians? We/I gotta keep the fire burning to be a witness to someone, I don’t want someone to see me and say that my fuel has burned out. I want to be the person that God has called me to be. Don’t let family/friend/co worker/etc sap your fuel out of your christian walk with God. God is coming soon and we/I have to be ready to hear the words enter in thou good and faithful servant.

  13. What is the difference between a vine and a tree? While a tree might be mighty in the forest, a vine can overpower a tree. In recent travels to Mississippi there is a wild vine growing called Kudzu. According to Wiki “Kudzu competes with native flora for light, and acts to block their access to this vital resource by growing over them and shading them with their leaves. Plants then die as a result, from being suffocated.” Jeremiah 2:21 states “I had planted you like a choice vine of sound and reliable stock. How then did you turn against me into a corrupt, wild vine?” NIV.

I have found as the scripture states, there is not much use for fruitless vines; even as fuel for a fire. I have burned many vines, logs and branches. The vines do not have much substance. They tend to burn quickly and not produce much heat. However, a vine that produces fruit such as grapes can be priceless. The wine industry is one of the most lucrative and sophisticated agricultural industries today.

  14. Got Fruit?

This chapter is a parable of the vine branches that produced no fruit. These branches were useless and were burned. Thus, The Lord was going to do the same with the fruitless inhabitants of Jerusalem. Likewise, Jesus taught that if believes abide faithfully in him they would produce fruit. If they don’t, they are fruitless and useless spiritually.

  15. 7 And I will set my face against them; they shall go out from one fire, and another fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I set my face against them.

“The Lord has made all things for himself, yea, even the wicked, that would not otherwise be for him, for the day of evil (Prov. 16:4 ); and in those who would not glorify him as the God to whom duty belongs he will be glorified as the God to whom vengeance belongs.”

God will be glorified one way or another. I must choose to give Him glory because of who He is.

  16. 4 Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire devoureth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned. Is it meet for any work?
God doesn’t get any gloy out of our destruction. If we truely are God’s children then he is for us. He can set us up for chastisement but it is not for our destruction. It is for our betterment so we can do greater exploits for him.

  17. What kind of fire are we burning and how are we building it? Is it one with little tiny vine twigs that blows out after every service and when the next service comes around needs to be rebuilt again? (also what or who is blowing out your fire?) Or one of big logs of a tree that continues to burn is being added to so the fire grows and continues to consume you? This chapter just overall really made me consider what kind of fire we have burning within us for God and His will and kingdom.

  18. This chapter illustrates worth. Their sin had become greater than their worth. One (I) must repent, elsewise sin can become greater than one’s worth. However, repentance and God’s (Jesus) blood will bring forth one’s worth; “For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  19. God is a jealous God, and having Him angry with us is something I pray never happens. His wrath is greater than anything we will ever see. It’s time to get our lives on the straight path and live right daily for Him!

  20. 8 And I will make the land desolate, because they have committed a trespass, saith the LordGod.

God gives another example of how he will punish Israel for their backslidings. This is a stubborn & rebellious people set on doing things their way. Ezekiel 16 tells it exactly how it is but they will not hear the man of God.
We must draw close to God and hear him. He will guide us & lead us through these last days so that his church will be that great city set on a hill. He intends it to be a beacon & a lighthouse for others.

  21. Faithless

“So here’s the Message of God, the Master: Like the wood of the vine I selected from among the trees of the forest and used as fuel for the fire, just so I’ll treat those who live in Jerusalem. I am dead set against them. Even though at one time they got out of the fire charred, the fire’s going to burn them up. When I take my stand against them, you’ll realize that I am God. I’ll turn this country into a wilderness because they’ve been faithless.” Decree of God, the Master. (Ezekiel 15:6-8 MSG)

And I will make the land desolate (laid waste and deserted) because they have acted faithlessly [through their idolatry], says the Lord. (Ezekiel 15:8 AMP)

    Faithless

As Christians we must live our lives to the expectation of Jesus Christ. Why live beneath God’s expectation? What would hold us back? Is He not enough for us? He is the I AM!! When you face a problem or a need just full in the blank I AM ________ …. Our Father can do anything. We have got to believe that He is God alone and will never fail. Seek to know your Father better. Do not settle for being a vine when he has called you to be a tree.

It’s impossible to please God apart from faith. And why? Because anyone who wants to approach God must believe both that he exists and that he cares enough to respond to those who seek him. (Hebrews 11:6 MSG)

But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out]. (Hebrews 11:6 AMP)

  22. Set Apart

    2 Corinthians 6:17
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

There are some things that are just not fit for kingdom living. In order for us to be holy, or separated, unto God, there are some things we just have to avoid. When we choose to “touch not the unclean thing” and be instead set apart unto God, we can find ourselves living the blessed lifestyle of the kingdom. Trying to stand with one foot in the world and one in the kingdom will leave us especially unsatisfied and empty. We don’t get the full temporary pleasure of unreserved sin and we also miss the divine joy of the Spirit. The tiring cycle of lukewarmness leaves us devoured at both ends: torn by sin at one end while becoming bitter at the other when doing church just “doesn’t work” like it used to. The solution? Get wholly consumed with the fire of the Holy Spirit and be holy! Live set apart to God and cast off the weights and sins that would keep us from living the way He calls us to!

    Hebrews 12:1
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us

  23. What do we want to be… a useless vine or a fruitful tree??

Ephesians 4:14-16 MSG “No prolonged infancies among us, please. We’ll not tolerate babes in the woods, small children who are an easy mark for impostors. God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love—like Christ in everything. We take our lead from Christ, who is the source of everything we do. He keeps us in step with each other. His very breath and blood flow through us, nourishing us so that we will grow up healthy in God, robust in love.”

2 Peter 3:18 CEV “Let the wonderful kindness and the understanding that come from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ help you to keep on growing. Praise Jesus now and forever! Amen.”

  24. 2 Son of man, what is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest?

What comes to mind when reading this chapter is to egnite the fire within us. When the vine was in perfact condition it couldnt be use for anything. God has to let us go thru some things for his glory. He has to turn us on the potters wheel and make us into vessels of Honour. The human mind would think that you have to be in perfect condition in order to be used mightily. If God used a donkey what make you think he cant use you? All he want is a willing vessel ready to do the work of the lord.

  25. 5 Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less shall it be meet yet for any work, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is burned?

  26. 6 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; As the vine tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

What is thr vine tree good for? Wow what an example we are give here. Men are pretty much useless outside if God. And all those that give no fruit shall be cast out into the fire.
    NLT
John 15:4-5 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.

John 15:6 Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned.

  27. 6 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; As the vine tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Lord make me a fruitful vine.

If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. -John 15:6

  28. What is your purpose?
Son of man, What is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest? Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less shall it be meet yet for any work, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is burned? (Ezekiel 15:2, 5 KJV)
God created everything. So many times we put ourselves in a place where we exalt ourselves about our purpose. Some things are just meant to burn to give light and heat to others. In the kingdom you might just be firewood. You might not be the things that hold up the pictures or keys on the wall. You might not even be the wall of the building. You might just be firewood. We need to know our place. If we were made for something great, reach for it. If we were made for firewood, be the best heat and light that you can be to the world.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16 KJV)

  29. Can its wood be used for making things, like pegs to hang up pots and pans? No, it can only be used for fuel, and even as fuel, it burns too quickly. Vines are useless both before and after being put into the fire! (Ezekiel 15:3-5 NLT)
He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father. (John 15:2, 4-8 NLT)

  30. Growth or Death

6 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; As the vine tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

From trees come fruit and life. From trees can come fire wood. Wheat can be thrashed and become a harvest. God can put his pottery through the fire to design and shape. If the pottery, or the wood doesn’t comply they render themselves useless. If a fig tree does not grow fruit, it is useless. Jesus was ready to cast down the fig tree. Soon He will utterly wipe out the unfruitful. If we are not growing in God, we are dying in sin. Death is inevitable, we will leave these fleshly vessles behind one day. Paul said he dies daily. We must die to this world and live in Christ. Putting on the Spirit daily will prepare us for His coming.
