Ezekiel 17

1 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

2 Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto the house of Israel;

3 And say, Thus saith the Lord God; A great eagle with great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had divers colours, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar:

4 He cropped off the top of his young twigs, and carried it into a land of traffick; he set it in a city of merchants.

5 He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree.

6 And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and the roots thereof were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.

7 There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend her roots toward him, and shot forth her branches toward him, that he might water it by the furrows of her plantation.

8 It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.

9 Say thou, Thus saith the Lord God; Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit thereof, that it wither? it shall wither in all the leaves of her spring, even without great power or many people to pluck it up by the roots thereof.

10 Yea, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind toucheth it? it shall wither in the furrows where it grew.

11 Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

12 Say now to the rebellious house, Know ye not what these things mean? tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon is come to Jerusalem, and hath taken the king thereof, and the princes thereof, and led them with him to Babylon;

13 And hath taken of the king’s seed, and made a covenant with him, and hath taken an oath of him: he hath also taken the mighty of the land:

14 That the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping of his covenant it might stand.

15 But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such things? or shall he break the covenant, and be delivered?

16 As I live, saith the Lord God, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die.

17 Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company make for him in the war, by casting up mounts, and building forts, to cut off many persons:

18 Seeing he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given his hand, and hath done all these things, he shall not escape.

19 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; As I live, surely mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, even it will I recompense upon his own head.

20 And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will plead with him there for his trespass that he hath trespassed against me.

21 And all his fugitives with all his bands shall fall by the sword, and they that remain shall be scattered toward all winds: and ye shall know that I the Lord have spoken it.

22 Thus saith the Lord God; I will also take of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent:

23 In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell.

24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I the Lord have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I theLord have spoken and have done it.

  1. Verse 24 CEV “Every tree in the forest will know that I, the Lord, can bring down tall trees and help short ones grow. I dry up green trees and make dry ones green. I, the Lord, have spoken, and I will keep my word.”

Deuteronomy 7:7-10 MSG “God wasn’t attracted to you and didn’t choose you because you were big and important—the fact is, there was almost nothing to you. He did it out of sheer love, keeping the promise he made to your ancestors. God stepped in and mightily bought you back out of that world of slavery, freed you from the iron grip of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know this: God, your God, is God indeed, a God you can depend upon. He keeps his covenant of loyal love with those who love him and observe his commandments for a thousand generations. But he also pays back those who hate him, pays them the wages of death; he isn’t slow to pay them off—those who hate him, he pays right on time.”

  2. 15 But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such things? or shall he break the covenant, and be delivered?

    Message Version:
15″‘But he rebelled and sent emissaries to Egypt to recruit horses and a big army. Do you think that’s going to work? Are they going to get by with this? Does anyone break a covenant and get off scot-free?

We must be covenant keepers, not covenant breakers. God keeps His promises; so should we.

  3. his word has no value

Here he is again the king of Israel breaking yet another covenant. God took judgement against Israel and used Babylon to put His plan into action. Babylon comes take Israel captive but it was all in God’s plan, it was a lesson that needed to be taught. The king of Israel pledges to the king of Babylon his loyalty, but does his word has any value???? No, because he turns around and send of his men to Egypt to seek help. God is furious because he can’t keep his word or his pledge, not to God, and not to anyone in authority over him. That is the tree that first has his roots growing towards one eagle, only to turn them and try to go under the second eagle. The king of Israel is showing loyalty to none; so God is saying you can’t be loyal to me, you can’t be loyal to Babylon, so I am going to take you out by the root for you don’t have loyalty to anyone. Your word and covenants have no value for you don’t go through with them. How about you? Which master are you loyal too? Like our Pastor will say your check book will reveal who are you loyal too.
Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

  4. GO WITH THE FLOW

    Ezekiel 17:18
For [Zedekiah] despised the oath and broke the covenant and behold, he had given his hand, and yet has done all these things; he shall not escape.

God placed Nebuchadnezzar as ruler over the known world at the time. This was in accordance with His ultimate plan for Israel, and the Church. Only a few of the prophets were given insight into the significance of Babylonian rule. Most people did not see what God was doing. Zedekiah went against the warnings from the man of God, and rebelled against God’s established authority. Now he had a real problem. Since he went against God’s man, and his plan, he truly went against God himself.

Many times God’s plan is misunderstood as not being fair. Instead of submitting to God’s flow Zedekiah’s actions rebelled against it.

I believe this teaches us a valuable principle. We may not always understand what God is doing. He may at times seem unfair. However if we will “Trust in The Lord, with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding” we have a promise that “he will direct our path.”

Instead of getting upset, complaining, murmuring, or rebelling we should submit, commit, surrender, give up, give in, and GO WITH THE FLOW!

  5. A broken covenant.

Why is it so easy to brake a promise? I believe that it is because it binds us to an agreement. With our fleshly attitudes, we don’t like to be bound; we want to be free ,and do our own thing. It is better to not make a promise, than to make one ,and break it. Gods Word is true and with that it is a promise to this world. The more we read it, the further we go deeper into God. An elder tells me this statement quite often ,” we will do ….if something more important does not come up. ” when we make our promises let’s keep them.

  6. UP IS DOWN AND DOWN IS UP WITH GOD

It has occurred in every generation, we witness it today in our society as well as in this historical chapter of life in Ezekiel. Pride and arrogance is brought down and serving in humility is exalted. The LORD of Glory and Creation is not impressed with our accolades or accomplishments. Regardless of how tall or big we think we are; HE is the MASTER of ALL. The most beneficial lesson to learn is that GOD is KING and MASTER and everything by HIM and for HIM will GO through HIM. We are WISE to humble ourselves and not get caught up in our own assets or accomplishments, as we read here they can all disappear in seconds.

    Biblical Principals to follow:

James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

1Peter 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

1Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

Trouble comes when we take victories or liberties and pollute them with pride and arrogance.

    From our Proverb today:
Proverbs 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

  7. Don’t despise the small things. The low vine was blessed with life and became fruitful and multiplied. It is so important to be in obedience (obedience is better than sacrifice) than to be prideful and disobedient. Disobedience and pride leads to a life of destruction and failure. We must be accountable, humble and obedient in order to eat the good of the land, lest we be cut off and destroyed like we see in these many chapters.

  8. SANTO SANTO SANTO!!!
24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I the Lord have brought down the high friendtree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I theLord have spoken and have done it.
the choice is ours……….. BE HUMBLED OR TO BE EXALTED…….. What we may say no to, Just might be the will of GOD and what we might see as the will of GOD may not be HIS WILL!!! to be humble is HIS WILL FOR OUR LIVES…….thank you DADDY!!!
    I praise you JESUS!!!

  9. -everything we do is accountable to our god no matter how big or small it is its our choice to do as we say were gonna do or keep leading others who follow us into the pits of hell they see watch and hear our every movement and itll be there blood on our hands we have to be humble in everything we do and push aside all our pride and everything holding us captive everything we see listen to hear and watch is it really worth it?are we really listening to the word of god? none of this is a game we gotta start NOW and have continuous church every were we go and help the ones in need guide them not only to god but to his kingdom he deserves our every move our praise and worship hes done so much for us how can we not….

imagine just close your eyes and see the things he took you out of before something horrible could’ve really happened to you his grace is amazing his love is fulfilling and imagine the thousands of people coming (in jesus name) 🙂
I love you jesus thank you

  10. One of the things that I hate most is when plans fall through. Depending on someone or something to pull through and out of nowhere it falls apart. Your word is only as good as your actions. You can say one thing and do another. God is waiting for our words to match our actions. Are you ready?

  11. 18 Seeing he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given his hand, and hath done all these things, he shall not escape.

The price of a broken covenant

It may seem like it’s not a big deal in our minds to go against or compromise a covenant but God takes His covenants very seriously. We always expect God to do what He says He will without any regards to our end of the bargain, but His covenants are always if YOU will then will I do this. God has in past cut people off for breaking the covenant.

    Genesis 17:14
14 And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.

    Jeremiah 33:21
21 Then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers.

God does not take it lightly.
    Galatians 6:7
7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked:for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

When we choose to break covenant we lose the blessing, covering, miracle of Gods side of the deal.

  12. iLove to eat the Word

It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.

We at the Pentecostals of Fort Worth have been planted in good soil. We have been grafted into the True Vine and we have received fresh water from the spring of God. We have no excuse as to why we can not bear fruit. We are required to bear fruit and to bear good fruit at that. Lord help us.

  13. And all the trees will know that it is I, the Lord, who cuts the tall tree down and makes the short tree grow tall. It is I who makes the green tree wither and gives the dead tree new life. I, the Lord, have spoken, and I will do what I said!” (Ezekiel 17:24 NLT)

God is in control. On the outside it may seem that some people have life together without sacrifice but God has the last say.

Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it. (Luke 17:33 KJV)

  14. 19 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; As I live, surely mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, even it will I recompense upon his own head.

    Right back at you!

Matt 5:33 “Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.’ ESV

Luke 6:38 give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” ESV

    For “Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit;
    I Peter 3:10 ESV

We see, we think, we say. Luke 6:45 The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. ESV

Everything that you do will eventually come back to you. Make it good and make it true, that way you can receive revelation and blessing.

  15. Vs.24, “And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it.”

This passage of scripture brought 2 other scriptures to mind.

St. Matt. 23:12, “And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.”

1 Peter 5:6, “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.”

  16. This chapter illustrates flourish. They lost sight of how they flourished. One must never forget the planter (Jesus) elsewise one could wither, and not flourish; “Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  17. 18 Seeing he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given his hand, and hath done all these things, he shall not escape.
19 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; As I live, surely mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, even it will I recompense upon his own head.

He thinks he got away with ignoring God’s covenant but his eyes will be opened & he will find that he is going to pay with his life.

  18. ONLY GOD

24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I the Lord have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the Lord have spoken and have done it.

Only God can do the things that are happening in our church. Only God can cause 680 people to join us for Western Day. Only God can help us baptize so many people. Only God can give so many people the Holy Ghost in our church. When others look at our church and think of how blessed we are, we can say ONLY GOD can do these things!

  19. Not Our Own

24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I the Lord have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I theLord have spoken and have done it.

Too easily we try to live unto ourselves, as if our success or demise is all upon us. We can slip into the trap of taking God out of the equation. As born again believers, we can see in particular through covenant with God how our lives are not our own. Like the song says, “my life is not my own, to You I belong, I give myself, I give myself to You…” Our trust and focus should be rooted in God. No matter the circumstances we should not lose sight that He is Lord of lords and King of kings.

    Psalms 9:10
And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

  20. truly the lord has made all things. how can the clay deny the hands of the potter. how glorious and everlasting is our God that made the heavens,

  21. 24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I the Lord have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I theLord have spoken and have done it.

  22. 5 He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree.

6 And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and the roots thereof were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.

Hide the word in your heart!
    The result will be –
He is like a tree planted by flowing streams; it yields its fruit at the proper time, and its leaves never fall off. He succeeds in everything he attempts. -Psalms 1:3

  23. 22. Thus saith the Lord GOD;I will also take of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set 9it; I will crop off from the top of young twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent: 23.In the mountain of the height of Is’-ra-el will I plant it:and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell. 24. And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORDhave spoken and have done it. 22. Refer to Psalms 2 : 6
    23. Refer to Isaiah 2 :2 Daniel 4 : 12
    24. Refer to Ezekiel 22 : 14

    ;

  24. 24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I the Lord have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I theLord have spoken and have done it.

God will use those open to be used. If you close yourself off, you miss out on an opportunity to serve, learn and be blessed.

  25. A New Tree

The tree (Judah and Israel) has proven to be unfaithful and unfruitful. Therefore, the Lord declares that he will grow a new tree. The new tree will grow from a shoot of the old tree, so it, while new, is still part of the old. The shoot that the new tree grows is referred to as a “tender sprig” (Eze 17:22), terms that have Messianic connotations (Isa 11:1; 53:2). “Birds of every kind” (vs 23) may be a reference to the Messiah’s offer of salvation to Jews and Gentiles alike, “men from every nation” (Acts 10:35; Mk 4:30-32).

  26. 24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I the Lord have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I theLord have spoken and have done it.

Psalm 24:1 The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof;the world, and they that dwell therein.

Everything, everyone, belongs to the Lord. He is in control of all things. He exalts the humble and takes down the prideful. The King of kings is always watching our attitudes, our actions, our hearts. I have heard this message more than once; if you want to be someone great, you must be a servant of all. May we serve with gladness. It is a privilege and honor the great opprtunity to do anything for the the Kingdom of God
