Ezekiel 23

1 The word of the Lord came again unto me, saying,

2 Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother:

3 And they committed whoredoms in Egypt; they committed whoredoms in their youth: there were their breasts pressed, and there they bruised the teats of their virginity.

4 And the names of them were Aholah the elder, and Aholibah her sister: and they were mine, and they bare sons and daughters. Thus were their names; Samaria is Aholah, and Jerusalem Aholibah.

5 And Aholah played the harlot when she was mine; and she doted on her lovers, on the Assyrians her neighbours,

6 Which were clothed with blue, captains and rulers, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding upon horses.

7 Thus she committed her whoredoms with them, with all them that were the chosen men of Assyria, and with all on whom she doted: with all their idols she defiled herself.

8 Neither left she her whoredoms brought from Egypt: for in her youth they lay with her, and they bruised the breasts of her virginity, and poured their whoredom upon her.

9 Wherefore I have delivered her into the hand of her lovers, into the hand of the Assyrians, upon whom she doted.

10 These discovered her nakedness: they took her sons and her daughters, and slew her with the sword: and she became famous among women; for they had executed judgment upon her.

11 And when her sister Aholibah saw this, she was more corrupt in her inordinate love than she, and in her whoredoms more than her sister in her whoredoms.

12 She doted upon the Assyrians her neighbours, captains and rulers clothed most gorgeously, horsemen riding upon horses, all of them desirable young men.

13 Then I saw that she was defiled, that they took both one way,

14 And that she increased her whoredoms: for when she saw men pourtrayed upon the wall, the images of the Chaldeans pourtrayed with vermilion,

15 Girded with girdles upon their loins, exceeding in dyed attire upon their heads, all of them princes to look to, after the manner of the Babylonians of Chaldea, the land of their nativity:

16 And as soon as she saw them with her eyes, she doted upon them, and sent messengers unto them into Chaldea.

17 And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they defiled her with their whoredom, and she was polluted with them, and her mind was alienated from them.

18 So she discovered her whoredoms, and discovered her nakedness: then my mind was alienated from her, like as my mind was alienated from her sister.

19 Yet she multiplied her whoredoms, in calling to remembrance the days of her youth, wherein she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt.

20 For she doted upon their paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of asses, and whose issue is like the issue of horses.

21 Thus thou calledst to remembrance the lewdness of thy youth, in bruising thy teats by the Egyptians for the paps of thy youth.

22 Therefore, O Aholibah, thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will raise up thy lovers against thee, from whom thy mind is alienated, and I will bring them against thee on every side;

23 The Babylonians, and all the Chaldeans, Pekod, and Shoa, and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them: all of them desirable young men, captains and rulers, great lords and renowned, all of them riding upon horses.

24 And they shall come against thee with chariots, wagons, and wheels, and with an assembly of people, which shall set against thee buckler and shield and helmet round about: and I will set judgment before them, and they shall judge thee according to their judgments.

25 And I will set my jealousy against thee, and they shall deal furiously with thee: they shall take away thy nose and thine ears; and thy remnant shall fall by the sword: they shall take thy sons and thy daughters; and thy residue shall be devoured by the fire.

26 They shall also strip thee out of thy clothes, and take away thy fair jewels.

27 Thus will I make thy lewdness to cease from thee, and thy whoredom brought from the land of Egypt: so that thou shalt not lift up thine eyes unto them, nor remember Egypt any more.

28 For thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will deliver thee into the hand of them whom thou hatest, into the hand of them from whom thy mind is alienated:

29 And they shall deal with thee hatefully, and shall take away all thy labour, and shall leave thee naked and bare: and the nakedness of thy whoredoms shall be discovered, both thy lewdness and thy whoredoms.

30 I will do these things unto thee, because thou hast gone a whoring after the heathen, and because thou art polluted with their idols.

31 Thou hast walked in the way of thy sister; therefore will I give her cup into thine hand.

32 Thus saith the Lord God; Thou shalt drink of thy sister’s cup deep and large: thou shalt be laughed to scorn and had in derision; it containeth much.

33 Thou shalt be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, with the cup of astonishment and desolation, with the cup of thy sister Samaria.

34 Thou shalt even drink it and suck it out, and thou shalt break the sherds thereof, and pluck off thine own breasts: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord God.

35 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because thou hast forgotten me, and cast me behind thy back, therefore bear thou also thy lewdness and thy whoredoms.

36 The Lord said moreover unto me; Son of man, wilt thou judge Aholah and Aholibah? yea, declare unto them their abominations;

37 That they have committed adultery, and blood is in their hands, and with their idols have they committed adultery, and have also caused their sons, whom they bare unto me, to pass for them through the fire, to devour them.

38 Moreover this they have done unto me: they have defiled my sanctuary in the same day, and have profaned my sabbaths.

39 For when they had slain their children to their idols, then they came the same day into my sanctuary to profane it; and, lo, thus have they done in the midst of mine house.

40 And furthermore, that ye have sent for men to come from far, unto whom a messenger was sent; and, lo, they came: for whom thou didst wash thyself, paintedst thy eyes, and deckedst thyself with ornaments,

41 And satest upon a stately bed, and a table prepared before it, whereupon thou hast set mine incense and mine oil.

42 And a voice of a multitude being at ease was with her: and with the men of the common sort were brought Sabeans from the wilderness, which put bracelets upon their hands, and beautiful crowns upon their heads.

43 Then said I unto her that was old in adulteries, Will they now commit whoredoms with her, and she with them?

44 Yet they went in unto her, as they go in unto a woman that playeth the harlot: so went they in unto Aholah and unto Aholibah, the lewd women.

45 And the righteous men, they shall judge them after the manner of adulteresses, and after the manner of women that shed blood; because they are adulteresses, and blood is in their hands.

46 For thus saith the Lord God; I will bring up a company upon them, and will give them to be removed and spoiled.

47 And the company shall stone them with stones, and dispatch them with their swords; they shall slay their sons and their daughters, and burn up their houses with fire.

48 Thus will I cause lewdness to cease out of the land, that all women may be taught not to do after your lewdness.

49 And they shall recompense your lewdness upon you, and ye shall bear the sins of your idols: and ye shall know that I am the Lord God.

  1. The result of Foolishness, idolatry, and adultery

God tried every which way to obtain the attention of Samaria and Jerusalem with no success. They continue their sinning ways, but worse, Jerusalem returns to where He Himself delivered them from “Egypt”.
It is explain best in 2 Peter 2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

In the same manner, we, as a church must make sure that we do not return in any way to the world. We have been set a part by Him and His Holyness. We look different, act different, and are different from the world for a reason; because we are His Bride. The moment we begin to adjust our beliefs and standards “because times have changed” or for our own conveniences, it is that exact moment that we become whores of the world and no longer separate to HIM. It does not happened over night, it comes little bit by little bit. Then, without you even realizing it you are the dog eating the vomit. Open your eyes, be aware of your surroundings, and learn the tactics of the enemy. Above all ALWAYS REMEMBER WHOM IS YOUR BRIDE GROOM AND TO WHOM YOU BELONG. JESUS IS HIS NAME.

  2. 10 These discovered her nakedness: they took her sons and her daughters, and slew her with the sword: and she became famous among women; for they had executed judgment upon her.

11 And when her sister Aholibah saw this, she was more corrupt in her inordinate love than she, and in her whoredoms more than her sister in her whoredoms.

Learn from other people’s mistakes – don’t multiply them!

  3. Verse 35 AMP “Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you have forgotten Me [your divine Husband] and cast Me behind your back, therefore bear also [the consequences of] your lewdness and your harlotry.”

Same verse MSG “‘Therefore God, the Master, says, Because you’ve forgotten all about me, pushing me into the background, you now must pay for what you’ve done—pay for your sluttish sex and whoring life.’”

We must always stay focused on Jesus and never look back or desire something from this world. If you do, you are pushing Jesus into the background and saying “This is more important to me than you”. Soon missing services, not praying, not praising will not seem to bother you and this is a very dangerous place to be. I saw a t-shirt the other day that said “Anger” is one letter way from “Danger”. Don’t be angry about things you supposedly can’t do; but rejoice in what you can. We cannot allow anything from our past to lure us back from where God has already delivered us from.

  4. 46 For thus saith the Lord God; I will bring up a company upon them, and will give them to be removed and spoiled.

    We win.

We are a chosen generation ,a royal priesthood. We are called to be the outreachers to our city. My prayer is that we would get a burden for the lost. They are reaching out, yet they need someone to reaching for them.

  5. THE REWARD OF LUST AND IDOLATRY

This chapter is very hard to read due to the graphic nature of sin and the horrific judgement that results. The thought came to my mind multiple times while reading this chapter:

“Be careful what you lust after, it may abuse you”

As I pondered this statement in prayer this morning; I felt that it was a word from the LORD for someone that would read this blog today. Lust will cause you to do unimaginable sin and transgression of the word of GOD.

    MSG
36-39 Then God said to me, “Son of man, will you confront Oholah and Oholibah with what they’ve done? Make them face their outrageous obscenities, obscenities ranging from adultery to murder. They committed adultery with their no-god idols, sacrificed the children they bore me in order to feed their idols! And there is also this: They’ve defiled my holy Sanctuary and desecrated my holy Sabbaths. The same day that they sacrificed their children to their idols, they walked into my Sanctuary and defiled it. That’s what they did—in my house!

Lets be careful to repent before we enter into the house of the LORD, what an atrocity to consider the sin that lust produces.

GOD help our nation, GOD heal our generation, in JESUS name.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive

  6. 37 That they have committed adultery, and blood is in their hands, and with their idols have they committed adultery, and have also caused their sons, whom they bare unto me, to pass for them through the fire, to devour them.

38 Moreover this they have done unto me: they have defiled my sanctury in the same day, and have profaned my sabbaths.

Oh Lord let our hearts forever be yours and not fall into adulterous ways. Let us keep a respect and a reverence for you and all that you have done for me. Your house is a holy place, keep our hearts right not to defile it. Let us not be quick to throw our dreams into the fire for now type of pleasures.

  7. 37 That they have committed adultery, and blood is in their hands, and with their idols have they committed adultery, and have also caused their sons, whom they bare unto me, to pass for them through the fire, to devour them.

38 Moreover this they have done unto me: they have defiled my sanctury in the same day, and have profaned my sabbaths.
-WOW!!! thank you jesus for what your doing I love you daddy and just simply thank your awesome and merciful we love you

  8. ilove to eat the Word

If we take our minds off Jesus, He take us off His mind.

18 So she discovered her whoredoms, and discovered her nakedness: then my mind was alienated from her, like as my mind was alienated from her sister.

  9. The phrase “getting down to business” has a whole new meaning for me. God is getting down to business with Israel. The Lord states he will give past enemies; those that have already been defeated, power to overthrow Israel. Not only overthrow but totally and utterly destroy them. The Message version puts it this way: “They’ll come down on you out of the north, armed to the teeth, bringing chariots and troops from all sides. I’ll turn over the task of judgment to them. They’ll punish you according to their rules. I’ll stand totally and relentlessly against you as they rip into you furiously. They’ll mutilate you, cutting off your ears and nose, killing at random. They’ll enslave your children—and anybody left over will be burned. They’ll rip off your clothes and steal your jewelry.”

  10. God is a jealous God, and will never permit idolatry nor will he permit adultery. He will expose you even unto nakedness and have your lover overtake you with the sword. Don’t abandone God, and throw him over your back. Do the opposite, repent and do a u-turn and run to God for forgiveness and help to overcome. “Plead the Blood”
    “Be blessed”…………….

  11. 35 “And because you have forgotten me and turned your back on me, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: You must bear the consequences of all your lewdness and prostitution.” (NLT)

48 In this way, I will put an end to lewdness and idolatry in the land, and my judgment will be a warning to others not to follow their wicked example. 49 You will be fully repaid for all your prostitution—your worship of idols. Yes, you will suffer the full penalty. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign Lord.” (NLT)

This passage scares me for the world today, especially today’s young generation. We all have a choice and God will definitely see that we suffer the consequences of our choices, because He wants us to know who He is and that He is Lord. I pray that we would be modest and holy separated examples of God’s people for todays twisted generations to follow.

  12. 12 She doted upon the Assyrians her neighbours, captains and rulers clothed most gorgeously, horsemen riding upon horses, all of them desirable young men.

Be careful what/who you give your attention to. Just because something looks good doesn’t mean it’s good for you. The more attention you give it the less you give to God. When you desire after something else it becomes lust.

    James 1:15
Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin:and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

    John 8:34
Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

We serve who/what we give our attention too. Keep your attention on God!

  13. Both women were given over to the sins that they had become involved in. This is how sin works, it starts with just a small taste. But then before you know it, people are overtaken with that sin. Sin has consequences. No one can escape. The bible declares “The wages of sin is death.”

Jesus is the only hope of getting out of sin. We must truly turn away, repent, do an about face. All Jesus was looking for in these people was for them to desire to get out of their sin sick condition. His grace and mercy was ready, waiting and willing to cover their sins with His love, but they would not. They were stick necked and hard hearted.

We must continually check ourselves, to ensure that we do not find ourselves in this same sinful condition, overtaken by a sin that seemed so small, but destroys our relationship with the Lord.

  14. HALELUJAH!!! SANTO SANTO SANTO!!!
37 That they have committed adultery, and blood is in their hands, and withtheir idols they committed adultery, and have also caused their sons, whom they bare unto me, to pass for them through the fire, to devour them.
38 Moreover this they have done unto me: they have defiled my sanctuary in the same day, and have profaned my sabbaths.
39 For when they had slain their children to their idols, then they came the same day into my sanctuary to profane it; and, lo, thus have they done in the midst of mine house.
Just because we are in church doesn’t mean that we are exempt from falling into idolatry.
Here we see that even there children were judged as well…. this is what can happen and in the spiritual it is certain to happen when we choose to do commit any kind of sin…….. they are most likely generational curses…… ONLY THE NAME OF JESUS CAN BREAK EVERY CHAIN!!!
HALELUJAH!!! THANK YOU JESUS!!! I LOVE YOU DADDY!!!

  15. 36 The Lord said moreover unto me; Son of man, wilt thou judge Aholah and Aholibah? yea, declare unto them their abominations;

    God is serious about Idolotry…

This who chapter screams of the serious anger that God has with those who worship other gods and also speaks of his judgement to those who do. He went on to say that people went as far as killing their own babies to sacrifice them to thier idols. What a travesty!!! But if you look at the world today parents are sacrificing their children in diffrent ways to the world by allowing them to be exposed to sin and ungodliness everyday… We must protect ourselves and our children from sins ungodly influences.

  16. 38 Moreover this they have done unto me: they have defiled my sanctury in the same day, and have profaned my sabbaths.

39 For when they had slain their children to their idols, then they came the same day into my sanctuary to profane it; and, lo, thus have they done in the midst of mine house.

Lord help me to always respect your house!

  17. This chapter illustrates desire. Their desires were acted upon, whereas God’s (Jesus) way was not, as such there was a price; “Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because thou hast forgotten me, and cast me behind thy back, therefore bear thou also thy lewdness and thy whoredoms”. It is crucial that one obeys the word of the Lord (Jesus), and the teaching of the man of God, and forsake sinful desires; “Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  18. 45. And the righteous men, they shall judge them after the manner of adulteresses, and after the manner of women that shed blood; because they are adulteresses, and blood is in their hands. 46. For thus saith the Lord GOD; I will bring up a company upon them , and will give them to be removed and spoiled. Ezekiel 16 : 40 47. And the company shall stone them with stones, and dispatch them with their swords; they shall slay their sons and their daqughters, and burn up their houses with fire. 48. Thus will I cause lewdness to cease out of the land, that all women may be taught not to do after your lewdness. Deut. 13 : 11 49. And they shall recompense your lewdness upon you, and ye shall bear the sins of your idols: and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD. Lewdness to Cease !

  19. 49 And they shall recompense your lewdness upon you, and ye shall bear the sins of your idols: and ye shall know that I am the Lord God.

The world does not realize the results of their sinful lifestyles. Those who have turned away from righteousness shall be soon reminded of their choices. Let’s pray that they find a place of repentance before his soon return.

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. -Galatians 6:7

  20. 22 Therefore, O Aholibah, thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will raise up thy lovers against thee, from whom thy mind is alienated, and I will bring them against thee on every side;

Many times God’s protection is taken for granted. Some are quick to blame God when unfortunate situations arise. Yet God is keeping us from tragic things everyday. The hedge he has around us protects us from all types of things that the enemy wants to do.

Yet once we live defiantly against his way, and word we cannot expect that covering. He may allow it to remain giving us mercy and grace.

If we aren’t careful the covering could retract and unleash a flood into our lives.

    Thank God for the covering!

  21. 2 Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother:

3 And they committed whoredoms in Egypt; they committed whoredoms in their youth: there were their breasts pressed, and there they bruised the teats of their virginity.

Relying on others instead of God

The two nations are compared to two women who are unfaithful. Samaria (Northern Israel) and Jerusalem (Judah) would rely on other nations for alliances rather than on God’s protection. How often do we rely on what other people tell us or seek counsel from our friends before consulting God in prayer? God should be the source of all of our decisions.

  22. 4 And the names of them were Aholah the elder, and Aholibah her sister: and they were mine, and they bare sons and daughters. Thus were their names; Samaria is Aholah, and Jerusalem Aholibah.

What a thought, Samaria and Jerusalem were sister cities…..

  23. Who Are You Satisfying?

    Ezekiel 23:17-18 NLT
17 So they came and committed adultery with her, defiling her in the bed of love. After being defiled, however, she rejected them in disgust. 18 “In the same way, I became disgusted with Oholibah and rejected her, just as I had rejected her sister, because she flaunted herself before them and gave herself to satisfy their lusts.

“Aholibah” found herself in a trap, caught in a cycle of trying to please others. She sought to give herself to satisfy others yet came up empty and even rejected in disgust the very ones she had chased after. Her existence was based around giving herself to be used in exchange for the hope of a quick fix in the temporal. A little gratification, a little affirmation, a little fun, a little ego boost…

But love can’t be bought. If it’s for sale, it isn’t love. We all yearn for love but sadly we humans often have such a wrong, distorted view of love we don’t recognize it when God is right before us with everything we need. We try to fill that need with other things and make excuses for where they fail. But God’s love will never fail us. We are called to be part of the Bride, given to one Husband. We are called to a love covenant, not myriad one night stands to scratch the itch.

    Psalms 37:3-5
3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. 4 Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

Our desire should be to please God, not begrudgingly but with delighting ourself in Him. When we find delight in Him, the things of this world begin to lose their appeal as He provides a true satisfaction this world can’t give. Our hearts were not made for a parade of quick fixes but for the divine romance of God…

  24. Is that what you really want
“For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will surely hand you over to your enemies, to those you loathe, those you rejected. They will treat you with hatred and rob you of all you own, leaving you stark naked. The shame of your prostitution will be exposed to all the world. You brought all this on yourself by prostituting yourself to other nations, defiling yourself with all their idols. Because you have followed in your sister’s footsteps, I will force you to drink the same cup of terror she drank. (Ezekiel 23:28-31 NLT)
Wow, what a scripture? All of those horrible things that she wanted. She was just like someone else because it looked do good. It wasn’t good though. It was terrible. And they both got the same thing. Before we go craving someone else’s life we need to ask is that what we really want. Often times we don’t see everything involved in their putter appearance and so we may want something and its not really what we wanted after all.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33 KJV)
Seek Him. Everything else will follow.

  25. If you see someone fall, don’t follow their footsteps and fall down with them. Learn from their mistakes so you don’t fall. Help them get up and work together to get strong! We are a family POFW, we are here to help each other!

  26. Obscene Picture

20 For she doted upon their paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of asses, and whose issue is like the issue of horses.

21 Thus thou calledst to remembrance the lewdness of thy youth, in bruising thy teats by the Egyptians for the paps of thy youth.

It’s offensive to our ears, something we’d rather not even read. This picture of Jerusalem’s alliance with Egypt has more than sexual overtones. It is blatantly and repulsively sexual. Why would God and Ezekiel use such language?

If we find this lusty, sexual picutre grossly offensive, we begin to uderstand how repulsive God finds the relatioship between Jerusalem and Egypt. Rather than trusting in him, they turn to Egypt and look to that country to defend them against invasion. After all these years, after all the miraculous interventions by God, the people have still failed to learn that their only true security rests in God. No country, no person, no relationship can give them the protection God is willing, and waiting, to provide. Today we still look in all the wrong places in cosmos/ Egpty for security and fulfillment. Our finances, our families, our jobs cannot provide anything close to the shelter and peace God is waiting to provide for us.

  27. Time and time again we as the example and comparison of the bride and the groom. Here we see a story of to women that because of their actions are called harlots doing their whoredoms. We see a description of the lewdness and how grotesque is adultery. In any relationship of married couple, there is an extreme fire that unites them and we call it love. Love is as strong as fire. Idolatry is compared to this whoredoms. Wow how much fire now being ignited in wrath. Another thing noted is the the “whoredoms” caused the shedding of blood…makes me wonder whose blood or bloods are we shedding when us humans worship idols..

  28. 39 For when they had slain their children to their idols, then they came the same day into my sanctuary to profane it; and, lo, thus have they done in the midst of mine house.
Respect is a huge thing in God’s house!

  29. This is a serious, hard to read chapter of what seems ,to the initial reading, to be a message for idolatry and adultery, but God has brought something to my attention about the severity of falseness. In the spirit of a whore she has to falsify her affections and deceive her patron. The same sin goes on at churches all over America. People act like they love God but they really don’t know who he is. Even if you fake out the Pastor and everyone in the church God knows your heart. The true relationship that we have with God is not revealed in how we present ourselves in front of the church, that relationship is fostered and carried on in our personal study and prayer. There is no way to really love God and to be considered a child of his without a personal heart to heart relationship with the father. Just as we want our children to crawl up in our laps, lay their heads on our chest and just have time with us, our father wants the same thing. God wants us to understand the true meaning of being a Child of God. If you don’t know the person that your showing affection to, then you would be considered ,as this chapter clearly identifies, a whore.

Be real and know Jesus. You have to know him before you can truly love him.

  30. 38 Moreover this they have done unto me: they have defiled my sanctuary in the same day, and have profaned my sabbaths.
39 For when they had slain their children to their idols, then they came the same day into my sanctuary to profane it; and, lo, thus have they done in the midst of mine house.

What idols do we have? What do we put before God? We must repent before we come into his sanctuary. Don’t bring in any sin with you. Come before his presence with thanksgiving! You will find what you’re looking for in Him.

  31. 31 Thou hast walked in the way of thy sister; therefore will I give her cup into thine hand.

Be careful who you follow, you just might end up having the same fate as them…
