Ezekiel 24

1 Again in the ninth year, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, the word of theLord came unto me, saying,

2 Son of man, write thee the name of the day, even of this same day: the king of Babylon set himself against Jerusalem this same day.

3 And utter a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Set on a pot, set it on, and also pour water into it:

4 Gather the pieces thereof into it, even every good piece, the thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones.

5 Take the choice of the flock, and burn also the bones under it, and make it boil well, and let them seethe the bones of it therein.

6 Wherefore thus saith the Lord God; Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose scum is therein, and whose scum is not gone out of it! bring it out piece by piece; let no lot fall upon it.

7 For her blood is in the midst of her; she set it upon the top of a rock; she poured it not upon the ground, to cover it with dust;

8 That it might cause fury to come up to take vengeance; I have set her blood upon the top of a rock, that it should not be covered.

9 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Woe to the bloody city! I will even make the pile for fire great.

10 Heap on wood, kindle the fire, consume the flesh, and spice it well, and let the bones be burned.

11 Then set it empty upon the coals thereof, that the brass of it may be hot, and may burn, and that the filthiness of it may be molten in it, that the scum of it may be consumed.

12 She hath wearied herself with lies, and her great scum went not forth out of her: her scum shall be in the fire.

13 In thy filthiness is lewdness: because I have purged thee, and thou wast not purged, thou shalt not be purged from thy filthiness any more, till I have caused my fury to rest upon thee.

14 I the Lord have spoken it: it shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent; according to thy ways, and according to thy doings, shall they judge thee, saith the Lord God.

15 Also the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

16 Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes with a stroke: yet neither shalt thou mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down.

17 Forbear to cry, make no mourning for the dead, bind the tire of thine head upon thee, and put on thy shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, and eat not the bread of men.

18 So I spake unto the people in the morning: and at even my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.

19 And the people said unto me, Wilt thou not tell us what these things are to us, that thou doest so?

20 Then I answered them, The word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

21 Speak unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the excellency of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pitieth; and your sons and your daughters whom ye have left shall fall by the sword.

22 And ye shall do as I have done: ye shall not cover your lips, nor eat the bread of men.

23 And your tires shall be upon your heads, and your shoes upon your feet: ye shall not mourn nor weep; but ye shall pine away for your iniquities, and mourn one toward another.

24 Thus Ezekiel is unto you a sign: according to all that he hath done shall ye do: and when this cometh, ye shall know that I am the Lord God.

25 Also, thou son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that whereupon they set their minds, their sons and their daughters,

26 That he that escapeth in that day shall come unto thee, to cause thee to hear it with thine ears?

27 In that day shall thy mouth be opened to him which is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and be no more dumb: and thou shalt be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I am the Lord.

  1. Ezekiel 24:16
Son of man, behold, I take away from thee — the desire of thine eyes with a stroke:yet neither shalt thou mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down.

The Church is referred to as the bride of Christ. She is also the mother of us all, and in a type could be considered “the desire of thine eyes.”

The Church building is our modern day temple of worship to God.

There is a grave danger associated with taking the church for granted. At the house of God we find fellowship, healing, ministry, strength, praise, and the awesome presence of God.

However godless actions, and sinful lifestyles do not just hurt our lives, but endanger the church.

    Why is this so important?

Other than reasons already stated, when the church is removed the hope, and help that God has placed is removed.

    How?

It is profaned, defiled, twisted, perverted. The church can become a place that on the outside looks good, but inward has lost its glory.

    What to do?

Love The Lord, and keep his commandments. Get behind the men and women God has placed over us, and support the vision of the Pastor.

  2. Obedience

Ezekiel did as he was commanded. He lost his love but mourn not. Now, it is the house of Israel’s turn, they too will lose their love, whatever they put above God, whatever they treasured, their loved, their children, their future. They too must not grief, they too must not mourn. Ezekiel is their example of obedience. May God help us be obedient at all times, so we may not have to be taught in such way. IN JESUS NAME AMEN.

  3. 24 Thus Ezekiel is unto you a sign: according to all that he hath done shall ye do: and when this cometh, ye shall know that I am the Lord God.

    I AM THE LORD GOD

God sent Ezekiel as a sign, just as the man of God is today as a sign to the church. We must hear the word of the Lord as God gives to the preacher of the hour.
If you don’t hear anything else hear this, God does not waste his time nor send out his word void. God has a word for everyone and we must give heed to it. God has a plan and it is up to us to find and follow the plan! We must FIND the plan, to many times we don’t even look for the plan because we think it just happens.Believe me things don’t just happen, we have to make them happen.
We must understand that HE IS THE LORD GOD!

  4. 24 Thus Ezekiel is unto you a sign: according to all that he hath done shall ye do: and when this cometh, ye shall know that I am the Lord God.

We must look for the signs God have sent. Many of us ignore them, maybe because we think God is not watching. Don’t be fooled by ignorance, God is always watching. He is the all knowing God and your secrets are not secrets to him. We must do what the word of God has commanded us to do.

  5. 25-27

It took about three months to travel from Jerusalem to Babylon. Thus about three months after the city falls a messanger woulg arrive and the Ezekiel would speak again. As we well see the messangers of his later days were filled with hope

  6. This chapter spoke to me this morning about obedience and being a sign (example). For Ezekiel to go through so much and yet be obedient without question speaks volumes. Sometimes we go through things that we may not understand; but, instead of being mad, upset or showing disappointment….why not go to the Lord in prayer (in silence and seek….”God what are you wanting me to see or what do you want me to learn from this?”). You never know who you are being a “sign” too. Someone else going through something just might be watching to see how you react to your situation. Our obedience and continuing praise regardless of what life may bring can speak volumes to someone in need.

  7. THE PAIN OF JUDGMENT

My heart pains today as read the judgment and pain that is brought upon the innocent as well as the guilty. THE PAIN OF JUDGMENT visited the man of GOD because of the sin of the people and his wife died as a sign.

18 So I spake unto the people in the morning: and at even my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.

We are wise to consider the PAIN and PRICE of a BAD DECISION (sin). James 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Sincere repentance will abort or avoid the pain of this calamity. How many innocent people are caught in the judgment of our poor sinful choices. What a hard and challenging word to accept that GOD would use Exekiel and the death of his wife to speak to Israel.

    GOD HELP ME

LORD JESUS let us hear and accept this clear call to REPENT and change our ways before the pain of YOUR judgment will come to us. LORD JESUS help us to SEE YOU as we examine ourselves today, cleanse our hands, hearts and minds today as we plead your BLOOD JESUS upon our lives to atone or cleanse our sin.

    In JESUS name!

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGIve
    iReap

  8. 24 Thus Ezekiel is unto you a sign: according to all that he hath done shall ye do: and when this cometh, ye shall know that I am the Lord God.

All I can say is that Jesus is coming again.

  9. iLove to eat the Word

12 She hath wearied herself with lies, and her great scum went not forth out of her: her scum shall be in the fire.

This scripture brings a whole new meaning to the word “scum bag.”

We must be cleansed by baptism in Jesus Name and the Holy Ghost, but also each and every day be cleansed by the washing of the Word. Daily Repentance is required in order to stay out of the scum bag category.

  10. 13 In thy filthiness is lewdness: because I have purged thee, and thou wast not purged, thou shalt not be purged from thy filthiness any more, till I have caused my fury to rest upon thee.

God attempted to purge the people but they would not be. And God was angry. This makes me reexamine every trial in my life that God sends to refine me. The people were so stiff necked, so set in their ways, and determined to live a life contrary to God that they ignored the signs, closed their hearts to the warnings, and just pushed through the purging to come out the same way, doing the same thing. Terrifying. God sends the purging to help us. I pray our eyes would be open to the signs, our ears to the warnings, and that we would be willing to be purged for God, lest His fury be poured out.

  11. 13 In thy filthiness is lewdness: because I have purged thee, and thou wast not purged, thou shalt not be purged from thy filthiness any more, till I have caused my fury to rest upon thee.

We must be obedient. When God delivers us from something we shouldn’t go searching for it, when God shuts a door we shouldn’t try opening it again. We must be careful not to make him angry with our hardheads

  12. 17 Forbear to cry, make no mourning for the dead, bind the tire of thine head upon thee, and put on thy shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, and eat not the bread of men.

18 So I spake unto the people in the morning: and at even my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.

Lord help me to always be obedient and listen to you, no matter what comes my way.

  13. 24 Thus Ezekiel is unto you a sign: according to all that he hath done shall ye do: and when this cometh, ye shall know that I am the Lord God.

God has put a Pastor in our life to lead and guide us however how we accept it is between us and God. But my desire is to follow my leader and do as I am ask. You never know who is watching how we handle when Pastor or someone in authority tells us something.
For instance this week at work I had been sitting by this girl while in training and we just did small talk till one day she ask me where I went to church at and then begins to tell me that she went to a UPC church in Paris Texas and had gotten the Holy Ghost but backslid cause she met a guy and her life went downhill until she turned her over to get help and now I believe God put me in her path to get her to get on the right path. So you never know who is watching you or who God is going to put in your life. We have to be willing to obey and listen for God’s voice.

  14. 1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

I am thankful for the watchful eye of The Lord. He cares for me, leads me & instructs me. When I am up & when I am down he guides me.

To dwell in your house Lord is where I want to be.

  15. A Cooking Pot

Ezekiel continues his words by comparing Jerusalem to a cooking pot. It has been put on the fire–the city is under seige. Choice pieces of meat have been put into –those who thought they escaped the earlier exile because they were “good”. Wood is placed under the pot in order to cook the contents– the Babylonians bring in their war equiptment and tighten te siege around Jerusalem. The cooked meat is taken out, piece by piece –exiles are sent away from the captured city. The pot is emptied–everyone goes into exile and Jerusalem is emptied of inhabitants. The empty pot is left on the coals until it becomes red hot– the empty city of Jerusalem is burned down.

  16. The preacher

27 In that day shall thy mouth be opened to him which is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and be no more dumb: and thou shalt be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I am the Lord.

The preacher is called to be a sign for us. He is called to show us the way. By the preacher the unknown gospel is known. By the preacher the unknown God is God. God uses the preacher to do his first love, to seek and to save that which was lost. What was really lost was our relationship with God. The preacher tries to get us to read the bible, to blog, to pray… all of this for the purpose to gain back what was lost in the garden, that relationship with Jesus. So let the preacher preach so that we know who God is.

  17. Surrender

12 She hath wearied herself with lies, and her great scum went not forth out of her: her scum shall be in the fire.

She has wearied herself and Me with toil; yet her great rust and scum go not forth out of her, for however hotly the fire burns, her thick rust and filth will not go out of her by fire. (Ezekiel 24:12 AMP)

There is a place we loop round and around and find ourselves wearied in the same battles, the same struggles, the same failures, the same shortcomings. That word “lies” or “toil” is used once in the Bible and it’s meaning seems best found via its root word which denotes vain exertion: fruitless work, labor done in vain, a lot of activity but nothing to show for it. There comes a point where we need to make up our minds we are done doing the same old thing and going through the same old motions of vain living. Only what’s done for God will last. When we lay down our will, our understanding, our desires, our dreams, God can make us fruitful and flourishing in His kingdom. But it takes that willingness and decision to surrender.

    Matthew 16:24-26
24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. 26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

  18. 14 I the Lord have spoken it: it shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent; according to thy ways, and according to thy doings, shall they judge thee, saith the Lord God.

What he says will happen. We must heed the warnings and live by his word which will judge us one day soon.

  19. This chapter illustrates reward. They were to be rewarded for their actions. One will receive the reward for one’s actions from the judge (Jesus); “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  20. Ezekiel was obidient to God even though all those thing happen to him. Ezekiel knew that if he contiues to trust God he knew God will deliver him out. We sometimes wait till we lose the things we care the most about to want to get serious with the things of God.

  21. 27 In that day shall thy mouth be opened to him which is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and be no more dumb: and thou shalt be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I am the Lord.

  22. Everyone speaks
27 In that day shall thy mouth be opened to him which is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and be no more dumb: and thou shalt be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I am the Lord.
Everything we do speaks, whether it is verbal or no everyone says something. It is said that actions speak louder than words. Someone with an auditory inparement can still read lips, sign language, and body language. I believe it is said that something like 75% of language is unspoken communication.

  23. God doesn’t waste His time telling us something for us to ignore. Everything that He says is for a reason that we would be foolish to disobey. It is in our best interest to not only listen but obey His word.

  24. Shut your mouth

27 In that day shall thy mouth be opened to him which is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and be no more dumb: and thou shalt be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I am the Lord.

Sometimes after you speak the word of the Lord is time to be silent about the matter until it matures.

  25. 18 So I spake unto the people in the morning: and at even my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.

Even at his wife’s funeral, he spoke about God. Waiting for oppertunities, and taking the chances, is some place that I need to grow.
How much more effective could the evangelism efforts of His church be, if we all took the opportunities God gives us, even at te oddest of times….

  26. 6. Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose scum is therein, and whose scum is not gone out of it! bring it out piece by piece; let no lot fall upon it. 7. For her blood is in the midstof her; she set it upon the top of a rock; she poured it not upon the ground, to cover it with dust; 8. That it might cause fury to come up to take vengeance; I have set her blood upon the top of a rock, that it should not be covered. 9. Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD ; Woe to bloody city! I will even make the pile for fire great. Woe to the Bloody City

  27. SANTO SANTO SANTO!!!
16 Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes with a stroke: yet neither shalt thou mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down.
THE DESIRE OF THEIR EYES WILL BE TAKEN AWAY WITH A STROKE……….. THEY WONT KNOW HOW OR WHEN IT WAS TAKEN AWAY BUT THEY WILL SURELY KNOW WHO TOOK IT!!!
HELP ME LORD!!! I THANK YOU LORD FOR GREAT MERCY!!! THERE IS NO ONE LIKE YOU JESUS!!! I LOVE YOU DADDY!!!

  28. A sign of obedience…
24 Thus Ezekiel is unto you a sign: according to all that he hath done shall ye do: and when this cometh, ye shall know that I am the Lord God.

In a world of technology, when eyes are always watching, will out lives reflect a sign of obedience to others? When the desire of your eyes, everything you hold dear and love is removed and the Lord commands you to do something, will we still love and honor and obey? Will your hands stay lifted, and our mouths still praising. Will we choose to obey at any cost?

  29. And the word of The Lord came unto me…

Are we listening to our own words or His? I pray that through every trial we remember to listen to the word of The Lord
