Ezekiel 31

1 And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the third month, in the first day of the month, that the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

2 Son of man, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his multitude; Whom art thou like in thy greatness?

3 Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches, and with a shadowing shroud, and of an high stature; and his top was among the thick boughs.

4 The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers running round about his plants, and sent her little rivers unto all the trees of the field.

5 Therefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long because of the multitude of waters, when he shot forth.

6 All the fowls of heaven made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches did all the beasts of the field bring forth their young, and under his shadow dwelt all great nations.

7 Thus was he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: for his root was by great waters.

8 The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him: the fir trees were not like his boughs, and the chestnut trees were not like his branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like unto him in his beauty.

9 I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him.

10 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;

11 I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness.

12 And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him.

13 Upon his ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon his branches:

14 To the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for their height, neither shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither their trees stand up in their height, all that drink water: for they are all delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.

15 Thus saith the Lord God; In the day when he went down to the grave I caused a mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the floods thereof, and the great waters were stayed: and I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him.

16 I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the nether parts of the earth.

17 They also went down into hell with him unto them that be slain with the sword; and they that were his arm, that dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the heathen.

18 To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that be slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord God.

  1. 8 The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him: the fir trees were not like his boughs, and the chestnut trees were not like his branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like unto him in his beauty.

    I love you daddy and thank you LORD your so merciful and faithful your a blessing in my life ❤

  2. 10 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;

    11 I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness.

    LIFTED UP THYSELF

    One of the worst places to be is lifting up ourselves. Pride should never be in us. Pride causes us many problems and is most of our downfalls. We should never lift our selves up just let God lift us up. If we let God lift us up and take us to the next level, we will see many things for him being done in our lives.
    My prayer today and everyday is God let me be humble and allow you to be the LORD of my life.

  3. Pride has only one destination HELL

    There is only one pit the pit of hell, anything or anyone that will extol themselves, full of pride will end in death and in the pit of hell. Be very careful EVERYTHING WE ARE, EVERYTHING WE HAVE, EVERYTHING WE DO IS BECAUSE OF THE BLESSINGS OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. We are nothing without Him.

  4. This chapter spoke to me about never forgetting your purpose and the one who gave you that purpose. Verse 9 CEV “I, the Lord, gave this tree its beauty, and I helped the branches grow strong. All other trees in Eden wanted to be just like it.”

    Romans 8:28 NLT “And we know that God causes everything to work together[a] for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. ”

    Psalm 103:5 CEV “Each day that we live,[a] he provides for our needs and gives us the strength of a young eagle.”

  5. If we ever or have ever had wisdom or power of any kind, we should remember where wisdom, power, wealth, etc really come from. That is from God. if we exalt ourselves above what God has done for us to ultimately benefit his kingdom, we will be no better than Satan who attempted to exalt his throne above God’s.

  6. iLove to eat the Word

    We must be careful

    As the planting of the Lord, we have been planted by rivers of living waters. We must always be careful not to become lifted up with pride.

    5 Therefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long because of the multitude of waters, when he shot forth.

  7. What does your life say about you?

    What is remembered when you die? Is it the love that you showed ,or the pride that pushed away your friends and family? The next generation will be known as the children of the generation before. So what foundation are you laying for a better future. The future does not always mean financial stability. It could mean an emotionally, mindfully sound future. The things that we don’t do today become our regrets of tomorrow. Not saying “I love you” enough. You will be rembered by that which you leave behind. What will you leave? Hope, love, charity, wisdom, a better understanding of…. , or fear, doubt, turmoil. What we do in this time and moment will impact the future of tomorrow.

  8. Ever done something and after you thought to yourself ‘Why did I do that?’ When we move on from this life people will remember you. However the question is, what will they remember? Will they remember the regrets you’ve made? Or how you jumped up when you fall down and kept fighting?

  9. EVEN THE MIGHTY FALL FROM PRIDE

    16 I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the nether parts of the earth.

    Again we see the correlation of success, pride and the fall. The reality of life is that not many people can stand to be BLESSED by GOD. Too often we humans are deceived into thinking that we did something great to attain a status or place of blessing.

    The TRUTH is and always will be if anybody has anything good; it came from the LORD. We are wise to faithfully and continually celebrate JESUS and who he IS and remember and understand that everything IS HIS.

    GOD planted this tree in the garden and BLESSED it and it grew in stature to the largest tree, over all the other trees. However it was not until in HIS own mind that he thought he was bigger than the rest of the trees did GOD bring him down. We are wise to live in the attitude and spirit of Thanksgiving for ALL he has done for us. Remembering that at self exaltation we are brought down and everyone will witness the great fall, regardless of how big we are.

    Thank you LORD today as we humble ourselves in your sight that at your will and time you will lift us up.

    In JESUS name.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive

  10. Misappropriation

    Ezekiel 31:5
    This great tree towered high,
    higher than all the other trees around it.
    It prospered and grew long thick branches
    because of all the water at its roots.

    1 Peter 4:10-11
    As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
    If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth:that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

    Every gift, and talent God gave is for his glory, and his purpose. When he filled us with his spirit he was placing trust in us that we would do something with it. Just like Egypt we are connected to a great flowing river that waters our roots, and helps us to be strong in him.

    In the secular world there is a crime punishable by imprisonment, and heavy fines.

    This is called misappropriation. Simply put, misappropriation is when someone takes something that was given to them by another for a specific purpose, and instead it is directed toward something else, usually for personal gain.

    Anytime we mis-use the gift of God we are guilty of misappropriation. Misuse can even be defined as abandonment.

    In the story of the unjust steward God came to ask for account for the talent he left with the man. However the man buried it in the ground, and did nothing with it. Misappropriation.

    Instead let us stir up the gift!

    2 Timothy 1:6-7
    Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

  11. This chapter evidences another incident of a “mighty tree” that has fallen. We must be so careful of our character, integrity and example that we send to other people. Naturally people follow leaders. When someone is blessed by God, spiritually, physically, financially people look up to them. Some people can’t handle success. They pray, they fast and God begins to use them, then they get puffed up within themselves and begin saying things that God doesn’t really say, to benefit themselves. Or they begin taking the credit for things that God does, and they make it look like it’s all them. Destruction will come just like to this tree. Another place in scripture it says, as a tree falls, so shall it lie…. Once it is hewed down, there is no place of restoration. We see that example in Lucifer himself being cast down to the ground. He exalted himself and was cast out of heaven, never to restored to his rightful place.

    Always be careful of someone who is always talking about “I”. That’s a good sign that pride is present.

  12. 9 I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him.

    10 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;

    11 I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness.

    If we exalt ourselfs for our own glory God will bring us low. He is far from the prideful.. But if we allow him to exalt us, that is where the blessing is. In the same way that all the birds of the sky nested and all the beast of the field gathered under the one tree that God made.

  13. SANTO SANTO SANTO!!!
    10 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;
    11 I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness
    PRIDE MUCH??? JESUS I LOVE YOU!!! THERE IS NO ONE LIKE YOU!!! YOU ARE AMAZING!!! I PRAISE YOUR HOLY NAME!!! HALELUJAH!!!

  14. Who has ascended into heaven, and then descended? Who has gathered up the winds in his fists? Who has bound up the waters in his cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son’s name? – if you know! -Proverbs 30:4

    There is name, there is a name, there is a name, bless that name!

    His name is Jesus!

  15. Beautiful

    9 I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him.

    10 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;

    11 I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness.

    Proverbs 31:30
    Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.

    Ecclesiastes 3:11
    He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

    One test we will face in life: what will we do when things are beautiful? Seasons come and go, situations change, and sometimes that means experiencing a beautiful time in life. God brings forth beauty in His time, in His way, but that doesn’t mean we’ve “arrived” and are home-free.

    Proverbs 31:30 NLT
    Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.

    Surface beauty doesn’t last. Seasons come and go, and so does surface beauty, but too easily we make surface beauty our focus. We look to it and become proud, measuring ourselves by surface beauty and not by the God who gave the beauty. We can enjoy life when it is beautiful, but the charm of that temporary beauty can deceive us if our focus is not locked on God.

    So how will we handle the beautiful seasons? Get caught up in the surface beauty and fall? Or give God glory for the beauty and keep our hearts fixed on His beauty?

    Psalms 27:4-6
    4 One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple. 5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. 6 And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord.

  16. This chapter illustrates stature. Pharaoh’s stature although great, was no match for what was to come. One should never think to highly of one’s self; “A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  17. 10 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;

    Pride will take you nowhere. If you are hanging with someone that all they do is talk about themselves its time to change who you hang with. God will not bless you when you are taking all the credit and bragging on what you have or are doing. Don’t get caught up with the “I” attitude. Pride will put a blockage between you and God. God help us to not let pride stand in the way of what God is wanting us to do.

  18. This chapter is very powerful. The Lord will take away and destroy all that glorifies self and not God. It’s the Lord who we thank no matter how little or how big the blessing. Humble thyself and lift up his great name at all times. Thank you Lord for mercy!!

  19. Success is dangerous!

    This chapter illustrates the danger of prideful self exaltation. If we are the ones that promote ourselves then we can only reach the pinnacle of earthly reward, but if we present our talents and successes to the lord humbly and give him the glory then he will give the increase. We have to be careful of the self inflicted rise and fall that will creep up on us in the spotlight. There is an adversary that knows the cost of prideful self exultations lightning bolt trip to hell. This is why at the root of most sin is pride, this is the adversaries game. If he can get us to think that the good that is in us is earned rather than given as a gift then we start to look at God as a rewarder of works but he only rewards faith. Works are limited to temporal satisfactions while the faithful carry eternal rewards. Dont get me wrong, we are called to good works, but by them we havent earned anything. The only way to grant yourself a seat in the heavenlies is to humble yourself on the earth. Earthy success is not evil but it has to be second to our relationship with the Father. He is calling us all, in these last days, to a deeper relationship.

    Take me to that place Lord
    To that secret place

  20. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. (Matthew 23:12 KJV)

    abased: 1 archaic : to lower physically 2 : to lower in rank, office, prestige, or esteem

  21. Judgement of the wicked

    11 I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness.

    God’s judgements are not arbitrary; they are always in accordance with the wickedness of individuals or nations. Currently, God’s judgement is hibernating b/c grace is being extended through Jesus Christ. Let’s reach as many people as we can in the dispensation of grace. It won’t be around forever.

  22. 4 The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers running round about his plants, and sent her little rivers unto all the trees of the field.

  23. A Cedar in Lebanon

    Ezekiel likens the nation of Assyria to a “cedar in Lebanon” (v3). In a land where few trees grow to any size, a particular form of cedar tree grows to great heights because of its large root system, which extends to underground water supplies. Towering over other trees, a reference to Assyria’s domination of the world, this tree grows arrogant because of its height (vs10). Therefore God destroys it, allowing Babylon, “the most ruthless of foreign nations.” (vs12), to conquer it. Though Egypt may consider herself a large and beautiful tree, God’s judgment on her will be the same as on the great tree of Assyria (vs18). Roots of the wicked, prideful and arrogant will rot. We have a choice to be grafted into the tree of life, or grow on His fruitful vine. All else will be eliminated. Cedar trees may have been tall and beautiful, but like attractive people, not everything that glitters is gold. Their fruit will give them away.

  24. 18 To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that be slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord God.

    Pride always exalts the individual, but in the sight of God no one can compare… This reminded me of the preaching when the man of God said that the archangel Michael was sent to fight the devil, and that his name means, “who is like God”? Wow God is great and mighty

  25. 10. Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height; 11. I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness. 12. And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and left him:upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him.

    ;

    ;

  26. In this illustration I am reminded of how trees although they look healthy and strong on the outside, they can be very ill and dying on the inside. We can’t be afraid to intercede for our bro and sis. We need to be as one body in Christ and pray for one another
