Ezekiel 38

1 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him,

3 And say, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:

4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:

5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:

6 Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee.

7 Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.

8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.

9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.

10 Thus saith the Lord God; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:

11 And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,

12 To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land.

13 Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?

14 Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord God; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it?

15 And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army:

16 And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.

17 Thus saith the Lord God; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them?

18 And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord God, that my fury shall come up in my face.

19 For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel;

20 So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.

21 And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord God: every man’s sword shall be against his brother.

22 And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.

23 Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the Lord.

  1. Denied! By God Himself

Gog would lead an army of many nations to assault Israel. Although it will be a tough battle, God will strike them with confusion so that they will attack each other. Earthquakes and pestilence will also afflict them.

This is the God we serve. Hell may be assaulting the church, but Jesus said no weapon formed against us shall prosper. May confusion be released on our adversaries, and may the very ground they stand on shake.

We will make it. We win!

  2. 14. Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog, thus saith the Lord GOD; In that day when my people of I s’ – ra -el dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it? Isaiah 4 : 1 And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach. 15. And thou shalt come from thy place out of the northparts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army: Ezekiel 39 : 2 And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee, to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Is’ – ra -el: 16. And thou shalt come up against my people of Is’-ra-el, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes. Exodus 14 : 4 And I will harden Pha’-raoh’s heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Pha’-raoh, and upon all his host; that the E-gyp’-tians may know that I am the LORD. And they did so. 17. thus saith the LORD GOD; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Is’-ra-el, which prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them? 18. And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Is’-ra-el, saith the Lord GOD, that my fury shall come up in my face. 19. For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Is’-ra-el;

  3. 7 Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.

    BE PREPARED

We should always be ready for whatever comes our way. As the song says If we live A holy life shun the wrong do the right. I know the Lord will make a way for me!
God is letting us know we should pray not because we are in trouble but because we love God. We love his word. We love living for him. There will always be obstacles in our way especially if we sell out and decide to give God all of our lives. Many people want to give God certain parts but not all of their lives.
The only true way to be PREPARED is to let God have all!

  4. Some of the study notes in my Bible for Ezekiel 38 say: “In the last days He will use Israel to bring the nations to judgment. This message of hope we may expect to be fulfilled, but its point is to instill confidence, not to enable us to create a detailed timetable for the future. God’s people can take comfort that God’s glory is made known even by His enemies. When God’s unsurpassed deity is shown even by a godless opponent. God knows the end from the beginning. God will personally fight for His people. All creation will be aware of it. No human agency will be able to take credit for God’s own victory.”

  5. Regarding the last view, because Gog and Magog are mentioned as combatants in a war at the end of the Millennium (Rev.20:7-9), many have identified the two battles in Ezekiel and Revelation as one and the same. However, the events following the battles are quite different, as are the events preceding each battle. In Ezekiel’s prophecy, the battle of Gog and Magog is used by God to draw Israel to Himself: in Revelation the battle of Gog and Magog comes after God has drawn His people to Himself for one thousand years of blessing during the Millennium. Therefore, it seems best to place Ezekiel’s battle in the Great Tribulation.
    Daniel 9:26,27 11

  6. iLove to eat the Word

    (Article from the Internet)
Ezekiel 38-39 reveals a fascinating and detailed prophecy about a future war campaign against Israel. This war is known as the “Gog and Magog War” because the people of Magog and their leader Gog will lead the attack. Scripture clearly teaches that this particular war will be a turning point for Israel, with regard to their relationship with God.

The sobering, yet exciting aspect of this study is that for the first time since Ezekiel penned these prophecies, the countries that will gather against Israel have built an alliance in recent years. The prophetic puzzle pieces are now in place. It is just a matter of time, that is, God’s timing before these prophecies find fulfillment.

Ezekiel wrote down the ancient names of the nations as he knew them. To make sense of these names, we need to do some investigative work using Scripture and history. Many prophecy teachers have done the detective work for us already.

Gog is the leader of the horde and prince of Meshech, and Tubal. Solid historical accounts point to Magog being Russia. This makes sense in light of Gog coming from the “far north.” Russia is the furthest country directly north of Israel. In the Hebrew, “the prince of Rosh” is literally “the chief prince”; not the prince of a place called Rosh, as some scholars suggest.

There is some disagreement among scholars on the locations of Meshech and Tubal, though most believe they represent the former southern Soviet states. Currently, the former Soviet states are still independent from Russia, since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. However, in 2008, Russia invaded the country of Georgia. This act of aggression by Russia, trying to take the area of South Ossetia from Georgia, may hint that Russia desires to rebuild the Soviet Union again. Indeed, Ezekiel’s prophecy shows us that Russia will govern over these former Soviet states at the time of the war. In other words, before this prophecy takes place, Russia will either re-conquer these territories, or they will submit to Russian rule again.

Note that Gog is the “chief prince,” and not a king. This may suggest that Gog is not the supreme leader of Russia at the time of the invasion. In other words, the human leader being led by the demonic spirit could be the Prime Minister of Russia at the time of the war. This is because the Prime Minister is the office below the President, who is the second in command, or “chief prince.” On the other hand, the title of “chief prince” could instead be related to a rank within the angelic realm under Satan, such as the “prince of Persia,” who fought against the heavenly “chief prince,” the archangel Michael.

In light of modern warfare, it is interesting that Ezekiel tells us that there will be horses involved in the war. Surely Ezekiel used familiar terms to try to describe modern-day weapons and means of transportation he saw in his vision, like tanks and fighter jets. However, that doesn’t explain the use of horses. Interestingly, Russia still maintains a horse cavalry. Every war in Russia’s history has included this horse cavalry.

There is precedence in the modern era for the continued use of horses, in addition to modern warfare. During the “Korean War” in the early 1950’s, the Chinese moved large numbers of their troops through the mountains with the use of horses. The use of horses for Gog’s army might be very useful because Israel, in the north and the east, is mountainous terrain.

    Ezekiel 38:5-6

    5 Persia, Ethiopia [or Cush], and Libya [or Put] are with them, all of them with shield and helmet;

6 Gomer and all its troops; the house of [Beth] Togarmah from the far north and all its troops – many people are with you.

In these verses, Ezekiel lists the rest of the participants in the “Gog and Magog War.” Without a doubt, Persia is Iran, as their name was just changed in 1935. The areas of Ethiopia and Libya, otherwise known as Cush and Put in other Bible versions, are a little tougher to pin down, as they encompassed a larger territory than they do today. Most agree that, in addition to Ethiopia and Libya, Sudan, Algeria, and Tunisia may also be included. Historians tell us that Gomer used to cover parts of Eastern Europe, possibly as far west as Germany. Lastly, Armenia and Turkey are likely included in Beth Togarmah. Ezekiel tells us that this will be a massive army with many people under the leadership of Gog.

The governments of Russia and some of the former Soviet states are predominately atheistic. The common denominator in the other countries that join Russia is they are all Muslim nations. This is interesting, because the more fundamental sects of Islam believe that Israel does not have a right to exist. Many Muslims believe Allah has called them to destroy the Jews and re-take the Holy Land.

Russia might be pulled into this war, as the result of Israel making an offense against one of their allies. It is interesting that the second country listed after Russia and its territories is Persia, or modern-day Iran. Currently, Iran seems on developing nuclear technology, presumably to make weapons. Their Islamic ideology suggests that these nuclear weapons would be used to destroy Israel and possibly any nation that sides with Israel.

  7. 7 Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.

Always be prepared for the unexpected.

  8. UNPROTECTED

This passage gives us illustration and purpose for spiritual and physical protection in and on our lives. An adversary preys on an unprotected, uncovered spoil.

This is why we MUST separate ourselves from this world through spiritual disciplines of righteous living. I call them fences or walls of protection. Choose today to build some walls of Prayer, Bible Study, Worship and Outreach. Choose today to separate yourself from the world and the things of the world and live in righteousness to GOD. Dressing in modest apparel and honoring headship through proper head covering.

Submission to Spiritual authority is a MUST to protected in a walled city of GOD. There is DANGER is operating outside of a spiritual covering; i.e making decisions without counsel, participating in secret sins, stubbornness and rebellion against authority, the list could go on.

The KEY to Spiritual VICTORY is to remain covered by the Spiritual Authority and Biblical principals that GOD has presented for us to live by.

  9. A Jealous God!!!

    19 For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel;

A lot of people don’t understand me when I speak about God as my first Love. They don’t understand when I speak about dressing up for Him or singing songs of love to Him. They don’t understand that if He gets put in a lower position in our priorities He gets Jealous… Yes, it is written that our God is a jealous God.
    Exodus 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
Deut. 5:9 Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,
Deut. 6:15 (For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.
    Joshua 24:19
But Joshua said to the people, “You are not able to serve the Lord, for he is a holy God. He is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions or your sins.
These are just a few, I can go on and on!!! YES, OUR GOD IS A JEALOUS GOD, HE IS OUR FIRST LOVE, AND AS SO IT SHOULD BE RESPECTED. Be your best, do your best, look your best for your God. Be faithful to Him and everything else will fall into place.
Matthew 6:33 But seek ye FIRST the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

  10. “Therefore, son of man, prophesy against Gog. Give him this message from the Sovereign Lord : When my people are living in peace in their land, then you will rouse yourself. You will come from your homeland in the distant north with your vast cavalry and your mighty army, and you will attack my people Israel, covering their land like a cloud. At that time in the distant future, I will bring you against my land as everyone watches, and my holiness will be displayed by what happens to you, Gog. Then all the nations will know that I am the Lord. But this is what the Sovereign Lord says: When Gog invades the land of Israel, my fury will boil over! In this way, I will show my greatness and holiness, and I will make myself known to all the nations of the world. Then they will know that I am the Lord. (Ezekiel 38:14-16, 18, 23 NLT)
Thank The Lord for His protection upon our lives, when the enemy comes against you, He will show His greatness!

  11. Ezekiel 38:2
Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him,

God will have the last laugh. When everything is said and done he will be the triumphant victor. His people Israel, and the Church will worship him for the victory that he has wrought.

Occupy til I come was the words Jesus gave his disciples. This means get busy about the work of God while there is still time. The Bible tells us that we should work while it is day for the night cometh when no man can work.

Our proper response to Endtime prophetic fulfillment is not to cower, and hide, nor is it in the will of God for us to run to the hills. It is however both right and necessary for us to step up our efforts of prayer, evangelism, and teaching.

As many wars as the world sees its possible when the time comes people will not realize it is the end. Until then let’s Be Church!

  12. 7 “Get ready; be prepared! Keep all the armies around you mobilized, and take command of them.
Take charge of your family, and prepare yourself and family for the Lord! Be the leader of your family and guide them towards God.

  13. Gog and Magog

The identities of these two names, Gog and Magog, (both chief princes) have been researched and disputed over the centuries. No definite indentifications can be made, although Gog (1 Ch 5:4; Rev 20:8) and Magog (Gen 10:2; 1 Ch 1:5; Rev 20:8) both appear elsewhere in Scripture. The identifications of the names isn’t necessary, however, in order to understand the passage. A judgment from God will arrive from the north to punish people for their rejection of God and for their sins against His holiness. No such judgment coming from the north is recorded in history- at least nothing as severe as Ezekiel depicts here. Therefore, this prophecy is yet to be fulfilled. However, both are mentioned side by side in the book of Revelation 20:8.

In this chapters verses 17-22 sounds similar to Rev 20:7″And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, 8And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. 9And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. 10And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”

Verse 16 says that God will bring Gog against His land and He will show Himself holy through you before their eyes. “And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord.” The Lord wants to reveal Himself in our lives, in order for him to do that, he has to get us away from the dark prince of this world. He allows darkness to come and punish us, but he will destroy the darkness that harms us. Punishment is a tool God uses to wake us up. An end of days is quickly approaching when the wake up calls will cease and His people will either perish with Gog and Magog, or live in His Spirit.

  14. We should at all times be ready for the trumpet of The Lord. Live your life everyday, every minute pleasing in Gods eyes. The time is now POFW!

  15. 7 “‘Get ready to fight, you and the whole company that’s been called out. Take charge and wait for orders. (MSG)

We must be ready spiritually and mentally for what God has planned and ordered for us – we must be ready whenever He calls on us.

  16. This chapter illustrates warning. Gog was warned as too what was too come. One would be wise to heed the word of God, the man of God, and his warnings. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  17. 23 Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the Lord.

  18. 2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him,

The word of the Lors stands sure. He avenge his people. All those that stand against his people will fall. Even as he will fight for his natural seed how much more will The Lord fight for his spiritual seed.

We are nearing the end of this dispensation and as we do remember if we turn to him and trust in him he will fight our battles. The church is victorious.

  19. It’s evident in this chapter that God is using a group of people from the land of Gog to bring down Israel so that they will see that He is the Mighty one of Israel. Sometimes God has to use people we wouldn’t imagine to get our attention. We must always be aware and sensitive so that if God is trying to bring something about in our life that we aren’t fighting against Him and cause the process to take much longer than He intended. It is all based upon our choices and decisions. Had Israel repented and turned their heart back to God many chapters ago, they would not be in the situation they are currently in, having evil prophesied against them.

  20. Thankful For The Storms

Who wouldn’t want to live a life of ease, like a continual vacation? Yet we see here the peril of unwalled villages: they become easy prey for the enemy. We may not like it when our boat gets rocked, but it’s through the hardship and trials and pain that we grow and are refined to become the person we are supposed to be. Sometimes the best gift we can get is something to mess with our world when we start to get at ease, complacent, lose perspective, etc. It means when the enemy comes, we have some defenses and won’t immediately fall prey to him. We must be thankful for the storms as God uses them to work a far greater glory in us than our pain could ever be.

    1 Thessalonians 5:18
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

    Romans 8:18,28
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. … 28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

  21. His mighty power
Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the Lord. (Ezekiel 38:23 KJV)
Again God uses his great and awesome fierceness to show the people who he is and how much he controls. I think that sometimes we walk through things so that we and others ill see that he is God by looking at our situations in life. His greatness is not only in the good, but also in the bad.

  22. 16 And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.

God has a plan for us, and here he plans to put Gog against Israel so he can show himself Holy before the nations through him.

Lord use me to do your holy will.

  23. 7 Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.

We always need to be prepared for when it is time for God to come back!

  24. 23 Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the Lord.

And we shall know the Lord.
In the end we all will know the Lord. The great I AM wants His creation to know Him. It is what He wants us to desire. However we see here and throughout many verses of the bible, with different nations, How He makes himself known. The terrible, the mighty the powerful. One would think, why would the pride of men want to go against an all powerful God? In the end we will all know that Jesus is Lord and God…
