Daniel 3

1 Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.

2 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the princes, the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

3 Then the princes, the governors, and captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together unto the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

4 Then an herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages,

5 That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up:

6 And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.

7 Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of musick, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

8 Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews.

9 They spake and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live for ever.

10 Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the golden image:

11 And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.

12 There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

13 Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king.

14 Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?

15 Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?

16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.

17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.

18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

19 Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.

20 And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.

21 Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

22 Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flames of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.

25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire.

27 And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.

28 Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

29 Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.

30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, in the province of Babylon.

  1. ilove to eat the Word

1 Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.

Daniel had just interpreted the dream in the previous chapter and thus it leads me to believe that the king got drunk on his own self and his own self will. Daniel told him that he was the head of Gold so he makes a statue of gold to worship.

We too, as the Children of God, must be careful not to become so full of ourselves that when God blesses us we misuse it and turn it into an idol.

  2. 20 And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.

    THE FOURTH MAN

This reading is full of great things and how great our God is. We should always adhere to the commandments of God and he will take care of us even in the midst of tribulation. God will even be in the fire with us.
This fire was so hot that the men that put these three Israelis into the fire was slain doing it. God is on your side if you do the right thing!!
When Nebuchadnezzar went to look he saw not only three men but the fourth men walking in the fire.
Thank God for the fourth man!!!!
I always want the fourth man on my side!!

  3. The Bold Ness to Speak Up

Even though Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego knew what would happen if they did not heed the kings word and bow down, they took a stand against the worship of a false God. If the law contradicts God’s world and is going to put your holiness in jepardy, then we need to obey God rather than man.

There will come a day when we must make a decision, do we do what man say or what God has said. I choose to do what thus saith the Lord. God’s word is sure and if he’s giving a commandment, then you better believe there is a high level of importance behind it. Let’s take a stand against sin and speak up. It’s time to get the word of God out in our streets and in the homes of every living person.

  4. GLORY HALELUJAH!!!
25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
MY GOD IS FAITHFUL EVEN WHEN I AM NOT!!! THANK YOU JESUS I LOVE YOU DADDY!!! YOU ALONE ARE AWESOME, MIGHTY AND WORTHY TO BE PRAISED!!! HALELUJAH

  5. SERMON SEEDS FROM DANIEL 3

As I read Daniel Chapter 3 today, I allowed my mind to IMAGINE CREATIVELY on the principals that GOD is showing HIS followers in this chapter. My mind was flooded with potential sermon thoughts, today I will share a few of those.

    1. THE WORLD MAKES A BIG DEAL OF A SMALL THING

    2. EVEN THE WORLD UNDERSTANDS THE POWER OF PRAISE

    3. SOMEONE IS WATCHING AND WAITING FOR YOU TO FAIL

    4. ACCOUNTABILITY

    5. TRUE COMMITMENT IS NEVER UNDERSTOOD BY THE WORLD

    6. INTIMIDATED BY THE FAITHFUL

    7. TOUCH NOT MINE ANOINTED

    8. NEVER ALONE

    9. TESTIMONY TIME

    10. CONVERTED BY YOUR FAITH

    11. PROMOTED THROUGH THE FIRE

30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, in the province of Babylon.

  6. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego

I have heard this story all my life. However, in reading the scripture today, this thought came to me; are we too familiar with this event? Have we heard this story too many times that it loses its potency? Do we revere this event in the same category as the resurrection, opening the eyes of the blind or the feeding of the thousands? I have found that this story has lost its “punch” over the years.

In preparing to read the chapter this morning, my first thought was “I know this story; I don’t need to read it again…” I did not give in to the temptation to take the fast/easy way out. I read the chapter. That is when it hit me; have others lost respect for the stories/events that some of us have heard since childhood? I had to repent this morning and ask the Lord to restore the wonder and awesomeness of His word in my mind.

  7. There is no bondage with God

25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

They threw 3 men bound… but just His presence loosed them… Praise God!!!!!!!

  8. 3:17,18 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.
But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

3:18.If not does not indicate a lapse of faith on the part of the three men. Rather, they recognized that sometimes it was the will of God for men of God to die “in the line of duty ” as they served Him. They knew that God was able to deliver them, but did not know if it was His will.

Job 13:15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.

    My Heart Shall Not Fear
Psalm 27:1,2 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

    I serve a mighty God !!!

  9. This chapter illustrates choices. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had a choice; “be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up”. One has a choice today, as one knoweth not what tomorrow holds; “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  10. Thank you Jesus for everything I know that even when the rough moments come you help me to walk through it Lord I love you Jesus and thank you again
    Xoxoxoxooxx

  11. 25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

Even the enemy knows who He is. How did the king know what Jesus was to look like? The spirit knows its Creator.

  12. The decree of a man

Spiritually, we know that to fall to this image and worship it would be idolatry. These guys weren’t having that. Yet, what else is going on here? The king made a decree, therefore, it must be followed. Now, he didn’t want to throw them into the furnace. He even calls them aside to explain to them again as if he was saying, “just in case you didn’t hear, you have to worship this image when the music plays.” This law had to be followed. If an exception was made for these men, what would happen to the multitude. This king doesn’t seem as wroth about the fact that they don’t worship his gods as much as he is about them disobeying his law and order.

Many times we will be put in situations where our faith in God is going to offend others. Not only will we not be worshiping their gods (in this day and age, many people are ignorant of their idolatry), we will be disobeying what they view to be as politically correct.

The day is coming where some of us will be given a choice, bow down to this idol or die. My question to us all is-can we really say that we won’t bow down? If someone can’t live for Jesus how can they die for them? That is the question I have for modern, contemporary Christianity. The ones who have a form of godliness, but deny the power of the Holy Spirit.

We really have a lot of work to do. Three faithful men changed the religion of a nation. Think of what we can do as a unified church. We can turn this world upside down.

  13. 19 Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.

20 And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.

    My faith plus yours…
Do your actions justify your words? It is one thing to speak boldly with faith it is another to move and take the first step of action. Do you believe what you read? Do you believe that Him who said will do the work, will do it? Do you trust Him enough to put your faith through the fire…heated 7 more times with mighty men that bind? Will you still stand on the promises, and His word, and take that step of faith out of the boat, into the fire, into not knowing what will be of you. I am reminded of this scripture. Luke 22:32 but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. We are not alone but it takes even this firery circumstances to strengthen our faith. Several things that I noticed, the power of unity. All three of them were thrown into the fire, but I believe at that moment they cried out to God, each strengthened each other, may faith plus your faith, plus his faith, and the angel of God being in the midst, whereever 2 or three are gather in His name. Now before before your words are tested and your faith tried it would be good to have some one pray with you. We know that God will respond to faith. Here is just a thought, if we are the body of Christ then in essence we represent, by having the Holy Spirit inside of us, Jesus, and that being so, I see the tremendous need, and importance to lift up each other in prayer, that our faith faileth not, that we may stand the firery trials and are able to overcome the mighty strong men. We then cannot stress enough the importance to lift up pastor and our leadership in prayer…. Let’s get together and pray.

  14. 1. NEB-U-CHAD-NEZ’-ZAR the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Du’-ra, in the province of Bab’-y-lon. He built a gold statue that was over 30 ft. tall and 1,050 feet wide . and he had everyone bow and worship the idol. When the instruments sounded and if you didn’t you were thrown in the fiery furnace and their were 3 Sha’-rach, Me’-shach, and A-bed’-ne-go; who would not worship the idol so they were thrown in the fiery furnace but they loved and worshipped the true GOD and God Blessed them and appeared in the furnace and kept them safe from the fire and the king saw GOD in the fire and realized that he was the true God. I have a question ? what is a sackbut?

  15. They were commanded to worship a golden image. One day we will walk on the very thing that some men worship. I’m praying God will send some of the pavement from heaven to help us build!

I am inspired by their resolve. No matter what happened, whether God would, or would not save them, they still stood strong.

They were not rude, arrogant, or hateful. They respected their ruler while staying true to their God! Attitude determines altitude!

  16. The god of this world has desired to take the place of the King of Kings.

He wants to take the best of God’s people and cause them to fall down a serve him.

Chapter 1 reveals that he wanted:

4 Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
5 And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.

Verse 5 he wanted them to stand(serve him)

But these men were determine that they would only stand before the true King of King. Their worship was direct towards God and not man. Everyday we must ensure tha our worship is towards the real King.

  17. 16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.

17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.

18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

We are not careful to answer…

I love these verses because it shows the confidence these young men has in God. They say we will not hesitate to answer the king they also declare that if God does not answer they are still going to serve the Lord. Its the ultimate test of faith to say we believe God is going to deliver us but if he does not we are still going to live for him. It proves that our relationship with God is deeper than emotion or hype but its a true deep believe and confidence in Him. These young men had already seen Gods provision and knew that God could protect them from anything and because of this they were not careful to answer the King.

  18. But God Said…

1 Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.

    Daniel 2:36-38
36 This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king. 37 Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory. 38 And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.

When God gives us a word, direction, promise, etc we must guard our hearts against making an idol out of it. The word is not a substitution for God and His involvement, rather it is to reveal, for God’s purpose, what was previously hidden. It should draw us to God, not to what was revealed. Revelation will puff us up if all we take it as is knowledge, but if it becomes to us an invitation of Love, to draw us nearer to God, we can allow God’s purpose to be fulfilled instead of going against Him in pride.

    1 Corinthians 8:1-2 NLT
1 Now regarding your question about food that has been offered to idols. Yes, we know that “we all have knowledge” about this issue. But while knowledge makes us feel important, it is love that strengthens the church. 2 Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn’t really know very much.

    1 Corinthians 8:1-2 KJV
1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth. 2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

  19. There’s no god like my God

29 Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.

Nothing or no one can compare to the awesome power of the one true God.

  20. This chapter shows us the importance of standing on what we believe. Our actions will reveal what we revere as important and what we are willing to do. Many say “Well, I’ll do anything for Jesus”; but, will our response be as these three men???

Verses 16-18 MSG “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered King Nebuchadnezzar, “Your threat means nothing to us. If you throw us in the fire, the God we serve can rescue us from your roaring furnace and anything else you might cook up, O king. But even if he doesn’t, it wouldn’t make a bit of difference, O king. We still wouldn’t serve your gods or worship the gold statue you set up.”

  21. Only God

Only God could have saved His people from the fire. Only God could have turned a king/nation. I want to know this.

  22. When the name of Jesus is called upon there is nothing that can’t happen. Call on Him in your time of trouble and He’ll be there! Thank you Jesus!!

  23. 28 Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

There is only one King of Kings, Lord of Lords. There is only one God. It took a miracle for Nebuchadnezar to believe in God, God shined through
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Their faith and trust in God saved them from the fire.

Lord I pray that the fire I have inside to serve you, worship, praise and honor you will always stand. There is no God like our God, Jesus Christ is Lord.

  24. 28 Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

What a mighty God we serve. He desires mankind to recognize our need of him before we’re in the furnace! But he will be with us alway – even to the end.

  25. Music

5 That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up:

Babylonians play music at royal ceremonies and at worship rites, using instruments that come from Greek traders. The music described here is made by the six instruments listed as well as by “all kinds of music” other instruments and perhaps singing. An orchestra, then, heralds the moment when all those present are to bow down to worship the idol erected by king Neb.

Music has been an integral part of worship throughout the centuries. Moses and Miriam led the people out of Egypt in worship through singing and dancing, and tambourine music after they passed through the Red Sea on dry ground (Ex 15). King David worshiped exuberantly with many musical instruments (2 Sa 6:5) and commissioned singers for worship (1 Ch 15:16). King Solomon wrote “a thousand and five” songs (1 Ki 4:32) and employed hundreds of musicians in the dedication of the temple (2 Ch 5:12-13). Today, as well, we continue to use music in a variety of forms to worhip God. We must be careful to discern which music is worshiping and glorifying God. Music is either bad or good. It all depends one the person: playing, dancing or singing because it can be used to worship self and pagan rites such as here. Lucifer was the head of music, surprisingly this is only one of the first attacks written of where the enemy attaches music to glorify himself.

  26. Standing up for what we believe is not always comfortable and can put us in situations that are not always easy. However, if we will stand for what is right based on the word of God — God will deliver and bare His mighty arm.

  27. In the scriptures God did not promise us that we would not go through trials and tribulations, but what he did promise us is that he allow us to go through them and endure them provided by his strength.

So even though they were thrown in fire so hot that the guards could not survive even going to the very edge of the flame. They could walk through the fire without any effect to them because they believed that God would deliver them from the flaming pit, the representation of what the devil tries to drag us through.

But through God’s strength you can endure even the toughest fire of your life. Cause gold is only purified when it is put through a hot flame. So do not grow weary through the tough time in your life. God is merely preparing you for great things.
