Daniel 6

1 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;

2 And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.

3 Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

4 Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

5 Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.

6 Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.

7 All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

8 Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

9 Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.

10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.

11 Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.

12 Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king’s decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

13 Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.

14 Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.

15 Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.

16 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.

17 And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.

18 Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.

19 Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.

20 And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?

21 Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.

22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

23 Then was the king exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.

24 And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.

25 Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.

26 I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.

27 He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.

28 So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

  1. iLove to eat the Word

Trust in God at all times and he will always make a way!

  2. UNDERSTING THE VALUE OF PRAYER

Prayer is the believers access to all that makes available to HIS own. Prayer is satan’s target because of the fundamental value or relationship with GOD that it produces. GOD desires intimate relationship with humanity and prayer is the vehicle that HE instituted to facilitate a intimate personal relationship with man.

We witness the 3 fold value of prayer here in Daniel 6.

    1. Daniel was targeted because of HIS prayer life, which in turn produced the FAVOR of GOD on HIM. Daniels prayer/favor with GOD made him the target of persecution. There was a special decree and punishment created for the only man that prayed to the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY.

    2. Daniels prayer/favor with GOD brought him through the judgement/persecution of the accusers. Because Daniel prayed everyday he had established an intimate relationship with GOD who already knew the needs of Daniel and with GOD being the Father of everything, exercised HIS authority on the lions that HE created.

    3. Daniels prayer/favor with GOD promoted him over his peers. After the trial and deliverance, when the test was over and the GOD that Daniel had FAITH in delivered him from the fierce situation Daniel stood by his GOD and his GOD stood by him. Everyone took notice and GOD promoted.
28 So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

Here is the reason all of this was possible:

10 But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God. NLT

When trouble came he remained consistent and prayed 3 times a day just like he always had. Do not allow times, seasons or circumstances to affect your prayer life.

  3. Every tongue shall confess

26 I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.

    Philippians 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

There will be a day when presidents, dictators, politicians, kings, no matter what title they may hold, EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW AND EVERY TONGUE CONFESS THAT JESUS CHRIST IS LORD…

  4. Daniel’s Protection—Daniel 6:21-24

v.22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.
Psalm 91:11-13 The Charge of God’s Angels

  5. Oh, what a tangled web can weave and find ourselves in…

Here the King was minding his own business, doing King things. The presidents and princes were not happy with someone else’s promotion; so, like a bunch of ole’ busy bodies, they cooked up a plan. It seems to me, the King was a bit of a chump and high on himself; as some Kings become. Taking advice from those around you is one thing. However, when you realize you have been played, caving in to the peer pressure is not the answer.

What a different chapter this would have been, had the King ordered the conspirators to be thrown into the lion’s den instead of Daniel. Of course, we would lose the deliverance testimony and the moral of the story to stand strong for God and He will see you through. However, it would have been an interesting turn of events…

  6. When someone that does not believe in our God or worship our God, has faith that He can bring us out of something. It brings me to awe.

  7. How great is our God! He saves all those who put their full trust in Him and He will never fail us. Thank you Jesus!

  8. Our darkest days are the days that we are tested the most. What would we do if we were in Daniels shoes? Would we have kept praying ,or not since it was the law. When mans laws go against Gods laws. We need to choose Gods. When we put all our trust in God. He will supply our needs.

  9. A Good Name

4 Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

They could find no fault. If people look at me I know they will find fault. Pastor has spoken to usabout the importance of a good name. Daniel had a GOOD NAME. No one could find fault. WHAT A THING TO ACHEIVE! God help me to strive to the excellence seen in Daniel who had no faults that could’ve found

  10. Everything that could be used to Daniels destruction has been used to build a testimony. Sometimes when you think there is no hope and everything is against you, God might be trying to do something awesome in your life.
God seems to like it when the devil thinks he is gonna win for a little bit. Then out of nowhere, SLAP, right in the face with a victory.

  11. 13 Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.

    Can you be ‘that’ person?

There was something different about Daniel. He didn’t act like everybody else. He was different. He dressed different, acted different, and spoke different. He even ate a different diet than all the other people.

When the people of God were captured there were many who hung their harps on the willows. They were saddened, and despondent.

There were others who blended in with babylon. They spoke their language, and soon lost their identifiable traits.

But Daniel, that Daniel, chose to live in the mess but not become a part of the mess.

There are two type of according to Martin Luther King Jr. There are thermometers who tell the temperature. They state the facts but, don’t change anything. These are those who complained, and hung their harps on the willows.

The other are thermostats. These are they who change the temperature. They alter their situation. Daniel stood firm, and the King had something to say when it was all said and done.

  12. Verses 3,4,and 5

    SEACHING FOR A FAULT

I can not think of anything any greater that could be said about someone than, what was said about Daniel. If we find any fault with Daniel it will be with him and his God. These men were jealous and sought for a way to get back at him, but God was with Daniel. It reminds me if we want God on our side, we should develope a prayer life. We must pray al least 3 times a day with our face set before God, to get him to hear us.

  13. 16 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.

There people all around us the have confidence in our God. The recognized the favor of God on Daniel’s life & proclaimed the god would deliver.

Your faith in God will affect those around you, so stand on your principles and do what you know is right.

  14. when we put our trust in God everything else falls into place. there are things we cannot do on our own but our God can do anything. When we pray with a sincere heart God will hear us.

  15. 10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.

When all odds are against you pray. Daniel could have very easily hidden his relationship with God by hiding his prayer or simply not doing it at all, but Daniel knew his relationship with God was more important than his relationship with man.
You will always have people who hate you or love you but God is the same yesterday, today and forever. Pay attention to Him and he will fight your battles.

    My God is good!!!

  16. iPray

Had Darius realized the power of prayer, he never would have signed that decree. Not that it would have changed his perspective on God nearly as much as his perspective of himself. Had he realized his need for God, he wouldn’t have declared “the buck stops with me” as he did. No matter how hard we try, we still need a Savior.

When Darius regretted his own decree, he tried *in his power* to fix it, but came up empty once again. Who will you turn to, Darius, when you can’t fix it on your own? He learned the ineffectiveness of his own decree. We can try all we want but the bottom line is that we are dependent on God and our effectiveness is nothing without Him. Daniel illustrated the power of prayer in the times with no answers and seemingly no solutions. We are not meant to face the lions’ den alone. No matter the season, it all starts with a lifestyle of prayer.

    Psalms 63:1-7
(A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.)
1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee:
    my soul thirsteth for thee,
    my flesh longeth for thee
    in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
2 To see thy power and thy glory,
so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life,
    my lips shall praise thee.
4 Thus will I bless thee while I live:
I will lift up my hands in thy name.
    5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness;
and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:
6 When I remember thee upon my bed,
and meditate on thee in the night watches.
7 Because thou hast been my help,
therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.

  17. 4 Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

5 Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.

Daniel was found guilty of being a “christian.” It is my hope that when judgement day comes, I will be found guilty of the Lord of the same. The old song comes to mind regarding this scripture, “When anyone looks at me, let them see Jesus. Let me be a reflection of His love and mercy they see.”

As Christ-like individuals we are being watched on a daily basis. Our lives should portray that of Jesus – the same attributes, the same actions and you should be able to tell what our principles are based on the kind of life we live.

  18. This chapter illustrates similarities. Both the king and Daniel were aware it would take God’s hand to keep Daniel safe, as such they were similar. There are two mindsets, one that knows God can and one that wants to believe God can, the key is to become as Daniel, and know God can. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  19. There was a plot against Daniel and he was thrown in the lions den to be devoured . But God sent his angel to shut the lions mouths so they could not hurt him . Then the king released Daniel from the den. it shows you nothing is impossible if you believe in GOD He will bring you out of any situation.

  20. 25 Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.

    You are your greatest testimony!

Wow look what prayer can do.. I see several things that caught my attention, one he was not intimidated and continued steadfast with his prayer life. The minute you set your mind that you are going to pray, you can see how many distractions will arise. Second his prayer life gave him succes…why? Because he found favor with the Lord and the Lord blessed no matter who reigned in the earthly Kingdom the Lord is still Lord of all. His faith and lifestyle, that of prayer and seeking God, which was well known, had inspired unbelievers to faith, king Darious. You are your greatest testimony…

  21. Determination is something that put Daniel in a special place before God. Even though he knew the new rule that was placed by the King, he refused to let it change his walk with God and kept the intensity of his prayer life.

Some days we don’t feel like going to pray, because we’re tired, in a bad mood, feel like we don’t have enough time in our lives or just don’t feel like it. But no matter what, we need to stick close to God and draw closer to him.

    Psalms 91

    1. He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, My God in him will I trust.

And this chapter even makes reference to Daniel’s plight as he gets thrown in with the lions.

    11. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. 12. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. 13. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder, the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

So never fear, but trust in God in all ways for he knows your plight. And be careful to never let go of your relationship with God, for you never know when you will be falsely judged and thrown into the hands of this world. For there is only protection in the hands of the Lord.

  22. 25 Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.

What a mighty God we serve. What he has done for others he will do for you & yours!

  23. The jealousy of heathens

They were jealous of Daniels promotion and conspired against him. They agreed to make a decree that would lead him to the Lion’s din. His uncompromising loyalty to God and His Word is a good example to us. We should demonstrate integrity and do superior work even in the most difficult situations without compromising our Biblical convictions; it is in this way that God will be honored.

This very scheme demonstrated the very power and glory of God, and just like we see with the gallows in Esther 5, the very snare the enemy set up to destroy the righteous was used to destroy the hands that prepared it.
