Habakkuk 2

1 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

2 And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

5 Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:

6 Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay!

7 Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee, and awake that shall vex thee, and thou shalt be for booties unto them?

8 Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee; because of men’s blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

9 Woe to him that coveteth an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!

10 Thou hast consulted shame to thy house by cutting off many people, and hast sinned against thy soul.

11 For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.

12 Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity!

13 Behold, is it not of the Lord of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity?

14 For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.

15 Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!

16 Thou art filled with shame for glory: drink thou also, and let thy foreskin be uncovered: the cup of the Lord’s right hand shall be turned unto thee, and shameful spewing shall be on thy glory.

17 For the violence of Lebanon shall cover thee, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men’s blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

18 What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?

19 Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

20 But the Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

  1. GOT TO LOVE THE WORD OF GOD, HE IS AWESOME.

The watchman is back on duty. 2 Cor. 1:20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. All we have to do is wait upon the Lord, be patient, be faithful, and watch Him make a way. His justice is righteous and truth.

  2. 3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength they shall mound up with wings as an eagle they shall run and not be weary they shall walk and not faint teach me lord teach me Lord to wait. This is my song this morning. Waiting is the hardest thing for an individual when we are promised something we want it now but it is all in God’s timing and will.

  3. THE IGNORANCE OF IDOLATRY

19 Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.
20 But the Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

Idolatry is identified here with the reference of speaking to wood and stone and telling it to awake. It identifies a placing of hope in the lifeless substance. We know the only true hope of the world is the man Christ JESUS. An idol is something worshipped. Something worshipped is something that has a sacrifice offered to it. Whether time, talent or treasure we are wise to examine how we spend them all. We are to be good stewards of the sacrifices we make, to ensure that we are not giving more of ourselves to idols than to the ONE true living GOD.

I pray today as as we search our hearts that we find ourselves in WORSHIP of the ONE true living GOD (JESUS)

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  4. 14 For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.

The earth shall be filled with the Knowledge of God! Knowledge is great and will always help us in our walk with God. Here we see the earth is filled with this knowledge. This is not only Knowledge of God, but knowledge of his glory.
We need to have a knowledge of God by seeing what God can do for this generation. God is a miracle working God and can do things that only God can do. We need to turn our faith and trust to him and see what he can do.
God give us more knowledge of your glory and let us see more of your glory, Which is a sign if the end time!

  5. Vs.3, “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”
Vs.4, “Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.”

This made me think of our new church. We have a vision of building a new church, but God has an appointed time for it. It will surely come to pass, and when it does, it’s not going to take long. Right now, we have to have FAITH (Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Heb. 11:1) and wait PATIENTLY (But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. Rom.8:25) for it to come to fulfillment.

2 Cor. 5:7 says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

So, while we are waiting for our VISION to come to pass, we must:
    Have FAITH !
    Have PATIENCE !
    PRAY !

  6. Gods word will never return back unto him void. Wait upon the Lord.

2 And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

  7. 13 Behold, is it not of the Lord of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity?

Let everything we do be for the glory of God and know in our hearts that all things are made for him. I pray we do nothing for our own vain glory but all for the glory of God!!

  8. Habakkuk 2:13-14
Don’t you know that GOD- of- the- Angel- Armies
makes sure nothing comes of that but ashes,
Makes sure the harder you work
at that kind of thing, the less you are?
    Meanwhile the earth fills up
    with awareness of GOD’s glory
as the waters cover the sea.

Two things happen simultaneously. As wicked people dive deeper into debauchery the world continues to fill with the glory of God.

Those who want darkness will surely find it, but the light will beam brighter and brighter!

The Lord is growing and building his kingdom. Just like the vision of Daniel the rock will strike the statue and grow into a mountain to fill the whole earth.

Stay on the rock and watch the mountain grow!

Live off the rock and it will eventually push you away.

  9. Silence

Habukkuk poses a hard question to God in chapter 1: How can he use the despicable Babylonians to punish the people? In chapter 2, God acknowledges and provides Habukkuk with a response. But His reply is disturbing: he will mete out terrible punishment on Babylon. The Babylonians will themselves be punished. God said to Abraham in Gen 2:3 “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

Then, in Habukkuk 2:19, God sets up a sharp contrast between the silence of the Babylonian idols, which cannot speak because they are lifeless, and the silence that befalls all of God’s creatures in the face of his power and soverreignty. The world around us might be in chaos, and our questions might not get answered as we desire, but out God is very much alive and capable of speaking to us, and through us. We are His Spirits dwelling place, the lively temple of the Lord. Silence is present in idol worship.

  10. 4 “Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked. But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God. (NLT)

We must humble ourselves and know where and who to put out trust and faith in. Later in verse 18 it tells of making foolish idols. God is the one true God and He is the one and only who deserves all honor and praise.

  11. This chapter illustrates reflection. What was seen by God (Jesus) is all that mattered; “Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith”. One (I) must look openly at self, for what one sees in the mirror, may not be what the Judge (Jesus) sees; “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul”. What a mighty God we serve! God bless Jerusalem and you all, in Jesus name, Amen

  12. The whole earth is filled withhold glory

14 For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.

Those that deny have no choice. It says the earth shall be filled that means that it will happen. It doesn’t say part if the earth, but it says the earth. That means the whole thing. If the whole earth is going to be filled like the waters coved the sea then the whole earth will have the Holy Spirit like POFW. Let’s practice now to show the rest of the world what the glory will be like when they see it too.

  13. 18 What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?
19 Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

In today’s society we may not have the wood or stone idols. But what do we spend our time doing. It can become an idol. As the old saying goes. To much of a good thing. Let’s allow The Lord to be the only thing that we worship.

  14. 2 And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

    Get the vision!

  15. Habakkuk 2:1, 4, 14 I will climb up to my watchtowerand stand at my guardpost. There I will wait to see what the Lord saysand how he will answer my complaint. “Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked. But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God. For as the waters fill the sea,the earth will be filled with an awarenessof the glory of the Lord.

    What’s in your heart?

As I read this and saw the description of how some put their trust in their created, whether it be riches, possessions or idols. The phrase from Capital One came to mind, “what’s in your wallet?” Pretty much who do you trust? I ask myself the question; who you trust? Who do I trust? What’s in your heart? It is foolish to rely solely on what one creates. However that is the state of much of humanity today. What do you carry in your heart that will bring security? It is better to wait upon The Lord to answer than act on your own will and advice. To let ones heart seek God and wait upon Him will give the best result. Wait for Him to answer.

  16. Persist Prayer

    Habakkuk 2:1 NLT
I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guardpost. There I will wait to see what the Lord says and how he will answer my complaint.

There’s something to be said for persistence, and specifically persistent prayer. As we’ve heard all too often, our society values the instant more than the patient; but in God’s Kingdom, we can see the value of patient persistence.

Perhaps those prayers that haven’t been answered yet haven’t come to pass because we tired too quickly? Maybe God was measuring our fervency not by the momentary passion of our prayer so much as by our enduring persistence?

When water carves away rock, it seldomly happens in one traumatic event but rather attains massive results gradually over time. Perhaps the change we desire to see is waiting upon us to “outlast” the obstacle and turn opposition into opportunity by our prayer?

As I wrote this, the question struck at my mind “well if you just have faith, it can be done in an instant…” Well yes, but I believe Jesus stands as our example here:

    John 9:1-3 NLT
1 As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth.

2 “Rabbi,” his disciples asked him, “why was this man born blind? Was it because of his own sins or his parents’ sins?”

3 “It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him.”

Jesus taught about more than just the surface lesson here. I didn’t look into this specific example too deeply but I know to call a male a man in the Jewish culture implied he was probably at least 30 years old. So here was this man, likely blind for at least 30 years, and here comes Jesus saying “this blindness is an opportunity for the glory of God to be revealed, and the time for that is NOW.”

The man’s healing wasn’t just based on one fiery prayer meeting but upon a time of visitation from God for a specific purpose and season. It isn’t clear if his parents or others had specifically sought healing for him through the years via prayer, but I believe it stands as an example for us that just because we don’t see results right away doesn’t mean it’s never going to happen or is out of the will of God. It might be a matter of *enduring.*

Like the old acronym “PUSH” says: Pray Until Something Happens. What miracles are waiting on us to PUSH? Who would we find filling the church pews if we didn’t give up on the backslid and lost quickly but would PUSH until we saw the breakthrough? What change would happen in ourselves and our families if we would PUSH so Christ would be increasingly formed in us and them?

The aggressive, Kingdom-seizing, dominion-claiming prayers we hear testimonies about are not all instantaneous but sometimes came after long seasons of enduring and believing against hope even. Just enduring doesn’t guarantee results, but not enduring forfeits whatever might be lying just on the other side of the breakthrough. Let’s not bury our blessings before we even hardly go before the throne of God for them.

Prayer is not an accidental part of the reality of the church but is essential to our life in Christ; we live as the halt and lame spiritually if we will go no deeper in prayer than quick, short-term supplications. Our question should not be, “Well would God answer then if I prayed like that?” Instead, we should ask, “Am I hungry enough to find out? Am I hungry enough to get so lost in seeking Him that even if I don’t find the answer I came for, I’ll find what I needed all along in Him?”

    James 5:16 AMP
Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart.] The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working.]

  17. Don’t stop believing

2 And Jehovah answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tablets, that he may run that readeth it. 3 For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hasteth toward the end, and shall not lie:though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not delay
    (Habakkuk 2:2-3 ASV)

Oh praise God!! Jesus is good. Certain things in my life were starting to look stale and bring me to wonder if I was really on the right path with life. We can’t interpret the voice of God based upon the results. His promises are for an appointed time, and when the come to pass it will not delay.

Do not rush the promises of God. Do what you know to do everyday and be faithful in the small things. Don’t stop believing the promise.

  18. iLOve to eat the Word

12 Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity! The following scriptures are interesting. They show what happen to those who build in wickedness.

‘And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it’-Joshua 6:26

‘In his days did Hiel the Bethelite build Jericho: he laid the foundation thereof in Abiram his firstborn, and set up the gates thereof in his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Joshua the son of Nun’ -1 Kings 16:34

Let’s forsake the wicked ways and build the kingdom of God in righteousness and honor. Let’s recieve the promise instead of the curse, let’s establish the Kingdom in Jesus Name and Impact Our Future Together.

  19. “What good is an idol carved by man, or a cast image that deceives you? How foolish to trust in your own creation— a god that can’t even talk! What sorrow awaits you who say to wooden idols, ‘Wake up and save us!’ To speechless stone images you say, ‘Rise up and teach us!’ Can an idol tell you what to do? They may be overlaid with gold and silver, but they are lifeless inside. But the Lord is in his holy Temple. Let all the earth be silent before him.” (Habakkuk 2:18-20 NLT)

They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen. (Romans 1:25 NLT)

  20. Dumb idols!

Men’s hands are making more dumb idols today than ever before. It’s like Moses came off the mountain from talking to God and there was a BMW manufacturing plant in full production. We can’t overlook the infectious symbols and idols that are placed before us everyday. Lexus in its native language means Greed, but the truth is that idols are made in your heart. If I walked by a golden calf today it wouldn’t tempt me a bit to try to worship it. But how do I feel when I see my dream house sitting on a hill? If my heart is in longing for it then it is my idol. We have to be careful of our desires that we not let them turn into idols.

1 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

    Michael-
We need to watch for God and the devil because sometimes if we’re not careful the devil can seem like God. The devil comes in your mind not in the body.

  21. 3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time and it hastens to the end [fulfillment]; it will not deceive or disappoint. Though it tarry, wait [earnestly] for it, because it will surely come; it will not be behindhand on its appointed day.
Dont be discourage if your dream hasn’t come true yet believe in God wait on him his word does not lie.

  22. 2:1
Habakkuk retired to his his watchtower to see how The Lord would answer him. He wanted yo get alone in order to gain God’s perspective. This is a most important principle for believers today as well . Whether we call it our ” quiet time ,” ” devotions,” or by some other term, daily communion with God is crucial for every Christiin .

  23. “Look at that man, bloated by self-importance— full of himself but soul-empty. But the person in right standing before God through loyal and steady believing is fully alive, really alive. (Habakkuk 2:4 MSG)
To be alive in Christ is so much better, than to try to fulfill the lustful desires of the flesh that leads to destruction!!

  24. 1 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

God is looking to see how we will respond to answers we receive, be it from Him or from those in authority over our lives. We must be careful to respond in a Godly manner otherwise we may not like the response we receive from Him.

1 Thessalonians 4:11 – And that ye study to be quiet….

    Proverbs 15:1
A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

  25. 1 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

It’s by our faith that tells us to wait upon the vision-it will come to pass! When God gives the vision we know without a doubt it will happen. Don’t get discouraged-rather encourage yourself in the Lord! Our vision for POFW is church built on our property. It will come to pass even though we have to wait on things to line up & get worked out…it will not tarry, but it will happen in it’s appointed time.

  26. The vision shall come to pass. No matter how much the enemy tries to get in the way of what God has ordained, he cannot stop it. If God has declared it, then it is already in motion.

  27. v3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

JESUS IS THE MASTER OF EVERY SITUTATION .
As we wait in faith .

  28. I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

  29. 4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: -Ephesians 2:8

I thank God for his grace.

  30. Vs 4 We must live by faith for there are many things that we ourselves have no control over, but the Lord will come to our aide if we but believe. Then only he will get the Glory.

  31. When God promises something to us it’s all in His timing of when we receive it. When He knows we’re ready that’s when we’ll get it!

  32. Write the Vision

Habakkuk 2:2,3 And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
3.For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it ; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

2:2….Isaiah 8:1 Moreover the Lord said unto me, Take thee a great roll, and write
in it with a man’s pen concerning Maher-shalal-hash-baz.

2:3… Ezekiel 12:24,25 For there shall be no more any vain vision no r flattering divination within the house of Israel.
    25. For I am the Lord: I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass; it shall be no more prolonged: for in your days, O rebellious house, will I say the word, and will perform it saith the Lord God.

  33. Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord ! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights. (For the choir director: This prayer is to be accompanied by stringed instruments.) (Habakkuk 3:17-19 NLT)

No matter the circumstance or situation I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.

  34. 3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

Has God’s vision, God’s plan for your life not seem to have gone the way that maybe you thought or the way you wanted? God’s timetable is not like our own, it’s easy for people to want things to happen right away and for it to be an easy ride, but God commands us to be patient in these things. For God is not limited by the presence of time itself, for he knows past and present and future. He knows the perfect time in which his vision for our lives shall be fulfilled, all we have to do is wait for it.

And it may not be clear when it is gonna happen either, it can be hard to follow something when we are not sure when it is gonna happen at what time, uncertainity is a difficult thing to do deal with. But we just have to wait and trust in God and trust his plan for our lives is the best path that we could take.

For though it tarry, wait and it will come unto you, and when it comes, it will not tarry anymore. The more we try to push it along, the more we will feel like we are waiting for our promise from God. But the more patient we are in trusting in God, the quicker the process will seem to go along.

Even in the bible, it gives us a good example of this with the story of Abraham

Genesis 17:15-19 And God said unto Abraham, Ass for Sarai thy wife, thou shall not call her name Sarai but Sarah shall be her name. And I will bless her and give thee a son also of her, yea I will bless her and the she shall be a mother of nations, kings of people shall be of her. Then Abraham fell upon his face and laughed and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto that is an hundred years old? And shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee! And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed and thou shalt call his name Issac and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant and with his seed after him.

Even the man who had some of the most faith of anyone mentioned in the bible, had a hard time believing God’s promise to him that his wife Sarah would bare him a son and that he would be the Father of a great nation, but that’s exactly what happened. So what does God have in store for your life?

  35. Just Live by Faith 1. I WILL stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and whatI shall answer when I am reproved. 2. And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. 3. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. 4. Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

  36. 2 And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

Where are you running? To what end are you looking for?

The Word tells us that we are given an expected end, but if we have no vision, we are running with a blindfold over our eyes….

  37. making something our idol not only do we make it our favorite but we make it a drug we gotta have it we need it we want it but what about our GOD everything he’s given us life breath untangled us from so much yet we push him away without reliving our mistakes or we do but were to stubborn to relize thank you JESUS for everything we magnify you and worship your great and holy name

  38. Verses 9-11 MSG “Who do you think you are—recklessly grabbing and looting, Living it up, acting like king of the mountain, acting above it all, above trials and troubles? You’ve engineered the ruin of your own house. In ruining others you’ve ruined yourself. You’ve undermined your foundations, rotted out your own soul. The bricks of your house will speak up and accuse you. The woodwork will step forward with evidence. We must be careful and build people up, not knock them down. Some try to act like they are better than others; but, it says in ruining others you’ve ruined yourself. Be a stepping stone not a stumbling block.

  39. 1 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

God is always watching. Watching to see what we will do with the resources he has provided, and the words he has already spoken… We need to be listening, reading, praying
