Haggai 1

1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying,

2 Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the Lord’s house should be built.

3 Then came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet, saying,

4 Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?

5 Now therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.

6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.

7 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.

8 Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the Lord.

9 Ye looked for much, and, lo it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the Lord of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.

10 Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.

11 And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.

12 Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the Lord.

13 Then spake Haggai the Lord’s messenger in the Lord’s message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith theLord.

14 And the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the Lord of hosts, their God,

15 In the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.

  1. We must take care of Gods house. Not just the church building ,but also our bodies. For of we are the temple of which God dwells in, then we should make it good. Keeping yourself heathy is one way to love Him. He made this body, therefore we should keep it whole and in good run condition.

  2. IMPACTING OUR FUTURE TOGETHER

My prayer today is that every GOD fearing, Holy Ghost FILLED, JESUS name baptized, REVIVAL minded, BLOOD bought child of GOD would catch the VISION of The POFW and HEAR this WORD from the LORD.

    IT IS TIME!

    JESUS we need your HELP!

    POFW we need your SUPPORT!

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive

  3. 13 Then spake Haggai the Lord’s messenger in the Lord’s message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith theLord.

  4. Rebuke the devourer

6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.

This is what happens when your are stingy with God. In this verse, God is showing the consequences of not giving to God what is rightfully His. The rest of the verses go on to show that if you are stingy with God, He will be stingy with you. But as soon as obedience happens, God tells them there is nothing to worry about for He is with them.

Do God’s work first. Let Him be the first thing in the morning and the last thing at night. Let God be the priority of your life.

  5. 5 Now therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.

Well does this sound like where we are at POFW, I read Pastor’s blog and he was kind, but kindness has never been my greatest trait!

These people lived in their nice houses and had everything comfortable but let the house of God go. The prophet starts with CONSIDER YOUR WAYS.
vERSE 6 IS SO CLEAR I merely repeat:
6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.
Verse 6 is placed between verses 5 and 7 which both end with CONSIDER YOUR WAYS
When these people repented they caught the vision and went up the mountain to bring wood and build on the House of The Lord.
You will see an increase in finances when we do what is right. These people were paying but not what they were getting. I always preached 10% of your increase. less than 10% of our increase is an offering not tithes. A people that will not tithe is cursed of God, then their offerings are not blessed, because of the curse!
What does increase mean? Simple if you get it is increase whether it is benefit or pay: you still owe tithe on it. I could be plainer but I want!
Let’s catch the vision and build a House for The Lord!!!!!

    CONSIDER YOUR WAYS

  6. 6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.

There is something about putting yourself and other things before the work of God that leaves a void. There is no satisfaction in this world. It just leaves you hungry for more. Taste and see that The Lord is good. He gives supernatural satisfaction

  7. ILove to eat the Word

4 Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?

So many times we worry about the house we live in. We spend money to repair it, hire plumbers to unclog it, and clean it to impress our guests.

The body is the temple of the Holy Ghost. We must cleanse the temple of God by reading the Word, Bible Study, and faithful attendance to the house of God.

  8. 7-15

Gods word is clear and simple. The econimic difficulties they have experienced are a message from God waring to put God first in there lives. The responce from leadership and all the people is immediate they obey and in 3 weeks everbody is hard at work on completing the temple of the Lord.

  9. This chapter illustrates priority. Their priority was on self and not on God. One must evaluate and measure oneself with the Word of God, if ones priority is on self than one must refocus. What a mighty God we serve! God bless Jerusalem and you all, in Jesus name, Amen

  10. Hear The Voice

13 Then spake Haggai the Lord’s messenger in the Lord’s message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the Lord.

When they heard and obeyed the voice of God, the people of God received the encouragement that God was with them. In repentance came divine aid as the people of God came in line with God’s will and labored to rebuild His house. Being in a building project, it’s easy to draw the connection of the importance of building in the natural for God’s kingdom but it goes beyond even that. Building the Lord’s house can be as simple as being faithful in our serving, giving, evangelism, etc. We must have our priorities straight, to seek first His kingdom and be faithful in building what He is building.

And it begins with hearing His voice to know what it is He desires. If we don’t devote time to seeking His voice and will and prepare ourselves to hear and receive it, how can we expect to stay in sync with Him? Hearing the voice of God should be a priority in our lives so His house can be first built in us and then through us as we act as vessels for His use.

    Matthew 6:33
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

    Psalm 69:9
For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.

    Psalm 95:6-7 NLT
Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker, for he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care. If only you would listen to his voice today!

  11. 6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.

7 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.
Help us Lord to do more for you and less for ourselves .
We live in a very selfish generation ,people always wanting more and more for themselves and could care less about others or the work of God!
It’s time to Consider our Ways!!!

  12. 5 Now therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.

    Mathew 16:26
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Happiness is not found in what you can obtain in this world. Look at all the actors and actresses that take their own lives or overdose in their multimillion dollar mansions. The true riches of this life is finding a relationship with Jesus Christ.

    Luke 19:10
For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Jesus’ purpose was to reunite the relationship that was broken by sin. Our job is to seek the relationship with him.
If we are not earnestly seeking a relationship and just seeking blessings from God then we must reconsider our ways.

  13. Vain treasures

    Haggai 1:9
Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith Jehovah of hosts. Because of my house that lieth waste, while ye run every man to his own house.

When people put their own lives and houses before God takes notice. It brings a curse. The same mentality is the one that doesn’t pay tithes. One of my clients is having financial difficulty. I asked him if he was paying his tithes and he said he couldn’t afford too. I said Malachi 3 and he said I know.

How can we afford not to pay tithes? Oh how western society has corrupted out mentality of stewardship. In the 70’s the average saving rate was over 12% today it is less than 3%. America has become bad stewards.

Much worse many are robbing God. People only tighten up when talking about money when they aren’t handling it correctly. Wealthy people don’t mind talking about it.

God make us better stewards of your resources. Let us be faithful in the small things.

  14. Contentment

7 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.

8 Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the Lord.

Contentment is being satisfied with the things that God has provided.

Contentment is the enemy of covetousness. Covetousness is New Testament idolatry. God has promised to bless us abundantly, and supply our needs.

Why should we be stingy with such a great promise?

The Fire Bible says WE WILL BE CONTENT WITH THAT. Christians should be content with life’s basic necessities of food, clothing and shelter. If special financial needs arise, we must rely on God to provide (Ps 50:15) while we continue to work (2Th 3:7- 8), help those in need (2Co 8:2- 3) and serve God with generous giving (2Co 8:3; 9:6- 7). We must not be driven by a desire to get rich because “the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil” (v. 10; cf. vv. 9- 11).

Why? Because God wants our focus to be on his house, and not our needs.

    Luke 12:22-24
And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. Consider the ravens:for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them:how much more are ye better than the fowls?

    Today’s English Version says
    Luke 12:22-26
Then Jesus said to the disciples, “And so I tell you not to worry about the food you need to stay alive or about the clothes you need for your body. Life is much more important than food, and the body much more important than clothes. Look at the crows:they don’t plant seeds or gather a harvest; they don’t have storage rooms or barns; God feeds them! You are worth so much more than birds! Can any of you live a bit longer by worrying about it? If you can’t manage even such a small thing, why worry about the other things?

Take care of God’s business. He is already taking care of ours. 🙂

  15. “Why are you living in luxurious houses while my house lies in ruins? This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Look at what’s happening to you! You have planted much but harvest little. You eat but are not satisfied. You drink but are still thirsty. You put on clothes but cannot keep warm. Your wages disappear as though you were putting them in pockets filled with holes! You hoped for rich harvests, but they were poor. And when you brought your harvest home, I blew it away. Why? Because my house lies in ruins, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, while all of you are busy building your own fine houses. (Haggai 1:4-6, 9 NLT)
Wow what a wake up call!!!!!
Am I so consumed in building my own, and not The Lord’s house?!?! Beware… After this you are responsible for what you read! You(I) will give an account for what is being read. Oh JESUS, have mercy!!! I was told by someone at church tonight that they had a dream about me. The dream was that there was a lot of children around me and this individual. This person had asked me to go up with them and all the children, I had refused to go with them. But the individual went up the stairs and the person had seen so much “fruit” and the person said Michelle the fruit was so huge, that I ate from it and it was good. But the children didnt eat because you refused to go up with them.
I told that person tonight that it was pretty odd that they had dreamt that about me, because you see I also had a dream, in my dream I was going down the stairs, and I had asked myself why am I going down these stairs, but as I was going down the stairs the room was getting dark.
The question lies within me, is it, or will there be a drought because of me and the decisions that I had/have made.
There are many souls that are depending on me( you). This city needs YOU.

  16. 2 Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the Lord’s house should be built.

  17. 2 Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the Lord’s house should be built.

    Oh Jesus. Help us lord!

  18. Verse 12 MSG “Then the governor, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, and the high priest, Joshua son of Jehozadak, and all the people with them listened, really listened, to the voice of their God. When God sent the prophet Haggai to them, they paid attention to him. In listening to Haggai, they honored God.” NOW is the time to really listen! Its not only in our finances (although that is a big part); but, also in our time and talent that they Lord has given each and everyone of us. Last Sunday we learned about “Use it or Lose It”…..don’t hide your talent, you may lose it (it will be taken away, if not used).

  19. 6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.

7 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.

We must be accountable in every area of our lives. If things are not going as we expect them to, we need to survey our hearts, and actions and see if there is somethiing out of alignment with God. God can’t and won’t violate His principles in His word. They are forever established and set before us to follow.

  20. Misguided Priorities

Haggai attributes a neglectd commitment to the misguided priorities of the people. They had built and enjoyed their homes before building the Lord’s temple. The returning exiles started rebuilding the wall and the temple as soon as they returned to Jerusalem. But when neighboring nations opposed their efforts, they abandoned the work and instead began to build their own homes, neglecting the house of the Lord. Now, 18 years later, they are suffering the consequences of their misplaced priorities. God’s blessing has been witheld from them.

“Give careful thought to your ways,” the Lord says to Haggai’s contemporaries (Hag 1:5,7). He similarly nudges us to review our priorities. Are they in line with God’s?

  21. 14 And the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the Lord of hosts, their God,

You gotta work, it’s time to work. It says their spirit got stirred up by The Lord. They had an inner revival to get things going and working in the house of The Lord. I’m reminded if the word of pastor just a few weeks ago and I get stirred up wanting everyone to get on board. He said if we could show The Lord by being 100 percent in our commitment to impacting our future together then that’s when The Lord might see and respond miraculously…but how can we know? I pray that The Lord will stir us all up that we may get to working to be faithful in our commitment to Him. The blessings will be for everyone 🙂

  22. No time to lose, no time to waste. The time is now, don’t hesitate. We all have a part to do in the kingdom of God and it would be wise of us to complete our duty! And complete it in a joyful spirit!

  23. The Call to rebuild the Temple 1. In the second year of Da-ri’-us the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by Hag’-gai the prophet unto Ze-rub’-ba-bel the son of She-al’-ti-el, governor of Ju’-dah, and to Josh’-u-ah the son of Jos’-e-dech, the high priest, saying 2. Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the LORD’s house should be built. 3. Then came the word of the LORD by Hag’-gai the prophet, saying, 4. Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste? 5. Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways. 6. Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye cloothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes. 7. Thus saith the LORDof hosts; Consider your ways. 8. Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD.

  24. You hoped for rich harvests, but they were poor. And when you brought your harvest home, I blew it away. Why? Because my house lies in ruins, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, while all of you are busy building your own fine houses. (Haggai 1:9 NLT)

If we are not right then how can God use us to bring in a harvest? God will not trust us to lead if we can’t be led ourselves. Let’s get right so we can reach this city!

  25. 14 And the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the Lord of hosts, their God,
15 In the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.

Many times we tend to go to church and go home, and all the time never think about all the work put into keeping up the church building. Many things go unnoticed by many of the congergation, due to the ” small” nature of the oppertunity, but without them getting the attention they need, they become large nuisances, and potiential hazards.

As we go to Church, let’s see what we can do to redemy some of these “oppertunities” without being asked, or causing someone else too…
