Zechariah 5

1 Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a flying roll.

2 And he said unto me, What seest thou? And I answered, I see a flying roll; the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits.

3 Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.

4 I will bring it forth, saith the Lord of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

5 Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth.

6 And I said, What is it? And he said, This is an ephah that goeth forth. He said moreover, This is their resemblance through all the earth.

7 And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman that sitteth in the midst of the ephah.

8 And he said, This is wickedness. And he cast it into the midst of the ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof.

9 Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven.

10 Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do these bear the ephah?

11 And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base.

  1. Verse 7-8 CEV “The lead cover of the basket was opened, and in the basket was a woman. “This woman represents evil,” the angel explained. Then he threw her back into the basket and slammed the heavy cover down tight.” Now that is putting a lid on evil!

Psalm 5:12 AMP “For You, Lord, will bless the [uncompromisingly] righteous [him who is upright and in right standing with You]; as with a shield You will surround him with goodwill (pleasure and favor).”

Matthew 5:6 AMP “Blessed and fortunate and happy and [a]spiritually prosperous (in that state in which the born-again child of God [b]enjoys His favor and salvation) are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God), for they shall be [c]completely satisfied!”

  2. 3 Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.

The warning is here as the curse for stealing and swearing. We must always take heed to the messenger of God. Here God tells of the wrath that will come when we steal or swear. Verse 8 talks about the weight compared to lead. When our lives are filled with sin we will have a heavy weight upon us. When we get that weight removed we will feel lighter.
That is why when we get the Holy Ghost we feel like a weight has been lifted off our shoulders, because we lose the weight of sin.
The word teaches us to lay aside the weight of sin and run the race that is set before us with patience. Sin is a heavy load to carry! to release this sin we must repent.

When we repent and are baptized the weight of sin is removed and we then can receive the Holy Ghost.

  3. Worshiping Wickedness

Have you noticed how lately everything is about vampires, zombies, evil demonic themes??? We are talking books, programs, t-shirts, even lunch boxes, and notebooks for kids. The world is to the point that the worship wickedness. Almost every day you see news of a mother or father killing their innocent baby. Everyone says they are crazy, but I don’t believe that. It is my opinion that we have desensitized our souls and minds with all this images of evil. So much tolerance has blinded our judgement of good and evil. Is like this t-shirts that say Stay Calm …. and then whatever they want to finish the phrase with. You will ask why I don’t like that shirt in the eyes of most there is nothing wrong with it. May be because it reminds me early 70’s the “I am ok, you are ok”, kind of attitude of tolerance and acceptance of promiscuity, “debauchery”, and corruption that began the decline of our great nation. This world is degrading to a chaos of wickedness; I praise the Lord for this world is not my home. It is time to open our eyes and see the signs that the Lord has shown us. So, how do you think we will do that? The Lord has been clear in His word; Act 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Rev 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
Be Prepared, Stay in His word, believe His prophecies, and await His Return.

  4. 4 I will bring it forth, saith the Lord of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

A strong warning – if you steal and/or swear falsely by His name, not only will you be destroyed but also your whole house!

  5. Then he said to me, “This scroll contains the curse that is going out over the entire land. One side of the scroll says that those who steal will be banished from the land; the other side says that those who swear falsely will be banished from the land. And this is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: I am sending this curse into the house of every thief and into the house of everyone who swears falsely using my name. And my curse will remain in that house and completely destroy it—even its timbers and stones.” (Zechariah 5:3, 4 NLT)
As we can see that nothing is hidden in the eyes of a living GOD! Life is about right and wrong, being blessed or cursed, life or death! The problem today is that people seem to take God’s word very lightly. There’s no reverence for Him and His Word! But one must know that GOD does have the last word.
The message version puts it like this:
Work hard for sin your whole life and your pension is death. But God’s gift is real life, eternal life, delivered by JESUS, our MASTER.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23 KJV)

  6. JUDGEMENT IS COMING – NO HOPE FOR LIARS AND THEIFS

3 Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.

    TEV
Zechariah 5:3 Then he said to me, “On it is written the curse that is to go out over the whole land. On one side of the scroll it says that every thief will be removed from the land; and on the other side it says that everyone who tells lies under oath will also be taken away.
4 The LORD Almighty says that he will send this curse out, and it will enter the house of every thief and the house of everyone who tells lies under oath. It will remain in their houses and leave them in ruins.

I am amazed at some of the tactics and deception that business people use today. Bait and switch deception; presenting 1 thing and providing another. This is dishonest thievery. Business owners and sales professionals are the most likely to fall into this SIN of robbery and lies.

The Proverb for today speaks directly to this principal:
Proverbs 22:1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.
Proverbs 22:4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.

Unfortunately this unscrupulous principal even shows up in the church in the area of tithe and offering.

Malachi 3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

Unfortunately some people do not trust GOD with finances, the result is tragic; disobedience, robbery, deceit, doubt, fear, and eventually judgement. The next step is where the lying and dishonesty comes in. When people make excuses as to why they ROB GOD. They are all vanity, because the the LORD is the maker of ALL things and the owner of ALL things. Our Loving Father in heaven knows what kind of steward we are and is patiently waiting for us to trust him with the first fruit of our increase.

  7. 3 Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.
4 I will bring it forth, saith the Lord of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

    So it’s ok to curse?

The answer is no. Why do some Christians think that it’s ok? It clearly states it here that it’s not. It’s the same as a thief. And we all know that that’s wrong. My prayer is that God would help those that think it’s ok when it’s not.

  8. Then the heavy lead cover was lifted off the basket, and there was a woman sitting inside it. 8 The angel said, “The woman’s name is Wickedness,” and he pushed her back into the basket and closed the heavy lid again.

The woman represented sin, wickedness. This is a caution to me that women should be careful. We carry such a high influence that whatever we do or allow, we will cause someone watching us to do the same, and be responsible for their fall.

  9. 7 And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman that sitteth in the midst of the ephah.

I’m not sure whether the angel was saying the woman was wickedness or the lead he threw over the mouth. If he is speaking of the lead, this reminds me to guard what comes out of my mouth. Once something is spoken it cannot be unspoken. We speak life or death.

    Luke 6:45
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil:for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

  10. 5:1-4.The sixth vision,of the flying roll(or scroll), is to show that those who sin openly will not hinder God’s work, because God’s judgment is upon them and they will not escape. For the Israel of the future the vision indicates that at the coming of the Messiah God is going to pour out His judgment on all the world and will remove every sinner
    from the land.
Leviticus 19:11 Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.
Exodus 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

  12. Zechariah 5:11
And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar:and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base.

Babylon is meant to distract and confuse. The entire system is built to draw people away from God. Babylon has its churches of worship: buildings dedicated to its gods. These could be bars, stadiums, theaters, clubs, and venues.

The purpose remains the same as the church: worship to invite the presence of a being. However what they are inviting is demonic.

Not all, but many make these things their gods. This is why the church must stand firm, and worship the true king. Live holy lives and invite his presence into the darkness of this world!

Shout unto God, and praise his name! Make his name glorious, and spread it through all the earth!

  13. The flying roll 1. Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a flying roll. 2. And he said unto me, What seest thou? And I answered, I see a flying roll; the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits. 3. Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it. 4. I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

  14. Recover All

    John 10:10
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

The devil tries many tricks to get the best of us but his house will not stand. Every day in our daily prayer, we bind the strongman of the region of Fort Worth:

“Luke 11:21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: 22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.

Lord Jesus, this day I bind the strongman of the Region of Fort Worth along with (Tarrant) and Surrounding Counties and by the Authority and Power of the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ and I loose the goods and the souls of his house to come into the Kingdom of God by the Authority and Name of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word.”

The Word promises that the house of the thief will not stand, looks like confirmation that it’s time to take dominion and spoil the spoiler to recover all!

    Matthew 16:18-19
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

  15. This chapter illustrates obedience. The chariots and horses went forth accordingly, and the silver and gold was collected accordingly. There is a purpose for all things and everyone; as such it is imperative that one is obedient to God (Jesus) and the man of God, for then one will witness the miraculous. What a mighty God we serve! God bless Jerusalem and you all, in Jesus name, Amen

  16. Zechariah 5:7-8 Then the heavy lead cover was lifted off the basket, and there was a woman sitting inside it. The angel said, “The woman’s name is Wickedness,” and he pushed her back into the basket and closed the heavy lid again.

    Removing the weight of sin

Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

God offers rest to the heavy laden

Matthew 11:28-30 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

The description of wickedness or sin is that of a heavy lid. Can you imagine what kind of weight is carried when one is in sin. Repentance is the only way to get rid if that weight. God’s grace and love covers a multitude of sin. He came to set the captives free.

  17. 3 Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.

All sin will be judged and God will not just overlook it. We must watch what we do and what we say because if we are not careful we can fall into sin. Let the Lord lead you and always strive to do right.

  18. This chapter shows how serious the lie snd swearing is. These things are so common in the lives of people today and its done by so many people -with no regard for their actions-in fact its normal! Yet the word of God clearly shows its unacceptable to Him. This world needs a Savior & we must be about the Father’s business! We are his hands & feet to take this gospel to those who are lost. We must be willing to teach Bible studies to whom ever is willing to listen or to anyone searching for truth.

  19. “Just a brotherly reminder, DON’T forget to tithe nor forget your IFT Pledge!” If, you want to be blessed and not cursed by God. Remember, Jesus said give and it shall be given unto you!

Zechariah 5:3 Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.

    Additional Note:

    Luke 6:38

    King James Version (KJV)

38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

    “It’s your choice, choose blessing!”…………

    Deuteronomy 11:26

“See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse: 27the blessing, if you listen to the commandments of the LORD your God, which I am commanding you today;…

    “Be blessed”…………………………………………………………………………..

  20. ilove to eat the Word

5 Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth.

Lord, in Jesus Name let us open our eyes to what the Spirit has to say. Let not the curse come near unto us and let the blessing be attainable. Thank You Lord.

  21. Jessie-
Zechariah saw a vision of a huge scroll with the ten commandments on it.
The curse is from disobedience to the commandments. You cannot please God and be disobedient at the same time. Jesus said ” If you love me you will keep my commandments” that means the best way to show God that you don’t love him is to be disobedient. It seems like every time that I study out a scripture in the bible it has a direct line to obedience. Above all obedience is the key to pleasing God. partial obedience is still disobedience and he is not pleased, as in this scripture, it is the curse. i pray that we can see the importance of even what we think are small things could be disobedience in Gods eyes. Christianity is a lifestyle of obedience to Gods word, anything else is a false witness of his majesty.

    Michael-
3 Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.

Do not steal or do not lie or you will be cursed like the scripture says. When you steal it is a sin and when you sin God is trying to tell you that that is the wrong thing so now you have to repent. God will judge you if you do that kind of stuff. Remember that you are special and important and do not lie. Love is what you are suppose to have not hatefulness. Do not have greediness.

  22. I asked the messenger who was speaking to me, “Where are they taking the basket?” -Zechariah 5:10
He replied, “To build a temple for her in the land of Babylonia. When it is finished, she will be placed there in her own residence.” -Zechariah 5:11

The discourse in these verses reminds me that The Lord will bring revelation and understanding to his word.

Thank God for the angel in our lives that preaches week after week breaking the bread of life to us.

  23. 6 And I said, What is it? And he said, This is an ephah that goeth forth. He said moreover, This is their resemblance through all the earth.

  24. 3 Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.

God is judging the people for their lies and cursing. Some people act like its no big deal to say cuss words but the Bible makes it clear that it still a sin. As the song says be careful little mouth what you say!

  25. Silencing the wicked

    Zechariah 5:8
And he said, “This is Wickedness.” And he thrust her back into the basket, and thrust down the leaden weight on its opening.

False doctrine is wickedness and God hates it.

Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin so that they ate food sacrificed to idols and committed sexual immorality. Likewise, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. (Revelation 2:14-16 NIV)

Who are Nicolaitians? Followers of Nicolas.

This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. (Acts 6:5 NIV)

The Nicolaitanes are the followers of that Nicolas who was one of the seven first ordained to the diaconate by the apostles. They lead lives of unrestrained indulgence. The character of these men is very plainly pointed out in the Apocalypse of John, [when they are represented] as teaching that it is a matter of indifference to practice adultery, and to eat things sacrificed to idols.

    —Irenaeus, Adversus haereses, i. 26,

Nicolas perverted grace with the once saved always saved heresy. This is the same doctrine taught in majority within Fort Worth.

The woman that represents wickedness in this passage is similar to the spiritual wickedness in high places of Fort Worth (false doctrine). It gnashes upon PoFW with its teeth but God sees its end. It will be thrown down and silenced. Revival is coming. Many people in this city love God and are bound in false doctrine. We may feel like we are the only ones living for God. But just like in the days of Elijah God has a remnant in the mountains. We have to go to them to bring the awakening.

    Revival is coming.

  26. “What is it?” I asked. He replied, “It is a basket for measuring grain, and it’s filled with the sins of everyone throughout the land.” (Zechariah 5:6 NLT)

Why was the basket that was supposed to be used for measuring grain (the harvest) being used for sin?? Are we filling up the church with the harvest that God desires or are we as a body filling it with sin? We can’t be distracted by filling up with only things that pleasure us vs things that discipline and strengthen.

  27. This chapter illustrates impossible. There was nothing that could stand in the way; “Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain”. God’s (Jesus) will shall be done, and the impossible, SHALL be; “For with God nothing shall be impossible”. What a mighty God we serve! God bless Jerusalem and you all, in Jesus name, Amen

  28. I’ve heard it said “Well this word is in the bible so it must be okay to use.” It may be that the word is in the bible but if used the incorrect way, that is cussing and is a sin. We as God’s children should have a pure and holy mouth!

  29. 11 And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base.

Shinar, is believed to possibly be Babylonian territory. Here’s the best part… God is going to establish His people (the church) on a firm foundation (apostolic doctorine) in a Babylonian territory (FT Worth).

He has established His church here, for the resources, and the harvest of souls that are here awaiting on His church to rise up and take it…

  30. Two Visions

Zechariah sees two visions, one of a flying scroll, the other of a woman in a basket. These two visions show the establishment of his kingdom. Evil is removed by spiritual means, without direct human intervention. Those who disobey God’s laws are cursed or punished and them destroyed. Wickedness itself is born away on the wind. Same as Lucifer was one of God’s angels and he alone birthed evil and division. It was all done away from the intervention of man. God’s holy land is being cleansed of evil, prepared for his righteous.

  31. 3 Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.

4 I will bring it forth, saith the Lord of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.
