Acts 4

1 And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,

2 Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

3 And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.

4 Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.

5 And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes,

6 And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.

7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?

8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,

9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;

10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,

16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.

17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.

18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.

20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.

22 For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed.

23 And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.

24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:

25 Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?

26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.

27 For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,

28 For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.

29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,

30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,

35 And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

36 And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,

37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

  1. 13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
it has been my prayer for years that people would know when they see me sinners with realize when they hear me that I have been with Jesus. that my life would show his love that my actions would mirror his actions.

  2. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is: And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. (Acts 4:12, 20, 24, 31 KJV)

  3. 13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

Attitude, demeanor, posture, and tone testified this day. Though they spoke about Jesus, it want their words that convinced but their countenance.

People knew they had been with Jesus!

Who do people think we have been with?

If we are down, depressed, and look defeated we can proclaim we have been with Jesus but our attitude, and actions will speak louder than words.

They knew they had been with Jesus because of one simple thing. They acted just like Jesus!

  4. 18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.

20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

After telling Peter and John what they could not preach and teach, they said should we listen to you or God? Because we only speak what we see and hear. This is a good philosophy to only speak what we see and hear. I believe we see miracles and hear people speak with tongues. There was a young lady the other night at church I plainly heard speaking in tongues. This is the sign of the gift of The Holy ghost, praise God. We only know what we see and hear, that is why we know Jesus is still alive, even though he was crucified. We know he still lives.

  5. YES!!!

The same way the enemy tries to take hold of us so that we may be in or do the will of GOD!!! We see the outcome of them speaking to the people, THERE WERE ABOUT 5,000 THAT HEARD THE WORD AND BELIEVED!!! IF THE enemy CA TAKE US OFF FOCUS……… BUT IF WE CAN STAY FOCUSED THEN………
JESUS, THAT MY FOCUS MAY BE ON YOU,
I PRAISE YOU JESUS AND I THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNFAILING LOVE, YOU ARE SOOOO GREAT AND GREATLY TO BE PRAISED!!! I LOVE YOU JESUS!!! HALELUJAH!!!

    • The same way the enemy tries to take hold of us so that we may NOT be in or do the will of GOD!!! We see the outcome of them speaking to the people

  6. Share the word with BOLDNESS

4 Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.
I used to get discourage if I shared the word of Jesus with someone and they did not heed the word. I took it as a personal failure; but one day the Lord show me this scriptures. Even Paul and John being disciples, even with their boldness, had some refusals; for although “MANY of them which heard the word believed..” so some of the ones that heard did not. We should not get discourage from the ones that did not!!! Keep sharing the GOOD NEWS!!! SALVATION IS HERE.
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

I was also once reprimanded for thinking so highly of POFW by someone on Facebook. Verse 20 was my answer. Some people don’t understand, I have been fed a banquet since I got to POFW. There has not been one day that our Pastor does not takes us the the word with joy and lays a spread for us to consume with gladness. Some think that he always preaching, but I think that he teaches with excitement, joy, exuberance, and can’t contain his loudness. I love it, for he captures the listening audience in a way that you can picture the word and be part of it, so you never forget. I for always love my Pastor and First Lady POFW IS GREATLY BLESSED.

  7. 31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

Let’s get that old time Pentecostal prayer line back. As the generation before us. They could get in touch with God. I believe part of the reason is because we have so much opportunity to see things today. The world doesn’t need faith, when they have google. But ,oh, how wrong that is. We need a move of God more now because of people turning their backs on God. And denying the power thereof.

  8. 29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,
30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

Knowing what they would be facing, Peter asks for boldness, and follows up with boldness. As Christians today, we ask for boldness, but how many actually follow it up with the act of boldness? Where is our faith? We have read the back of the book, and we WIN! So why is it so hard for us to walk in faith with boldness telling others of His greatness today? All we have to do is tell of how good He is, not make up stories, or preform some great miracle out of our own powers.

Today, I will pick one person and boldly share what Christ has done for me.

  9. THERE IS POWER IN THE NAME OF JESUS

7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?
8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,
    9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;
10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

In the midst of adversity and trial we find the early church leaders calling on the name of JESUS in times of trouble. Through their FAITH in GOD the early church leaders refused to be intimidated by what man feared and commanded, but chose rather to fear and obey the LORD, calling on the name of JESUS.

The POWER IN THE NAME OF JESUS is exercised through the discipline of PRAYER.

FAVOR FOLLOWS FAITH AND PRAYER – and great grace (favor) was on them all.

Let’s exercise this Spiritual privilege today and PRAY in UNITY and watch GOD BLESS and FAVOR us ALL in JESUS name.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive

  10. Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:10-12 KJV)

    How were bind eyes opened?
    JESUS. (Our church)
    How was cancer healed?
    JESUS. (Our church)
    How were lungs made whole?
    JESUS. (3 of My children)
    How were ears healed?
    JESUS (2 of my children)
How us someone able to walk away from a wreck with a flat bed 18 wheeler?
    JESUS. (My husband)
How was I filled with the Holy Ghost at an early age?
    JESUS
How was I able to stay out of the clutches of the world?
    JESUS

Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:10-12 KJV)

    Zechariah 4:6 (KJV)
Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This [is] the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.

Let’s remember the awesome power of God today. It is by his awesome Spirit that we have Victory everyday?

  11. 16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.

There is no denying the miracles and works of God!

  12. The word boldness is mentioned 4 times in this chapter, and it is related to “having been with Jesus,” “being filled with the Holy Ghost,”, “praying until the place was shaken and they all spoke with tongues and was filled with the Holy Ghost.”

Spending time in the presence of the King of Kings, being filled everyday to capacity with His Spirit, not only will bring a holy boldness into our lives, but it also provide us with wisdom how to use that boldness. Boldness and defensiveness or rudeness are totally different things. We can be bold, but compassionate and loving at the same time.

  13. iLove to eat the Word

Grieve the devil, Not the Holy Ghost

How do you grieve the Holy Ghost?
Eph 4:30-31 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. (31) Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

The way to grieve the Holy Ghost is to be bitter, mad, and angry.

How do you grieve the devil? Preach and teach Bible Studies in the Name of Jesus. Check this out…2 Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

Let’s make the devil grieve and send that dude a nervous breakdown!

  14. 18 So they called the apostles back in and commanded them never again to speak or teach in the name of Jesus.
19 But Peter and John replied, “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him?
20 We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.” (NLT)

Peter and John said they CANNOT stop telling about Jesus. That means they have such a passion for God and His word that they feel obligated to spread God’s word; they don’t let it be an option for them. We need to fulfill that same duty today! “We won’t stop ’til the whole world knows that You’re a great God!!”

  15. The Message (MSG)
32-33 The whole congregation of believers was united as one—one heart, one mind! They didn’t even claim ownership of their own possessions. No one said, “That’s mine; you can’t have it.” They shared everything. The apostles gave powerful witness to the resurrection of the Master Jesus, and grace was on all of them.
Every church needs to be in unity/a team with the Holy Spirit burning inside them! We share everything so we can share the word of God with everyone!:)

  16. Acts 4:12 The name of Jesus is the center of contention (v.7,10,12) and ever will be.Salvation for Jew and Gentile alike is exclusively through the name of Jesus Christ
(John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.).

  17. Peter and John Arrested 1. And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sad’-du-cees, came upon them, 2. Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Je’-sus the resurrection from the dead. 3. And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.

  18. The Messages version reads: “Jesus is ‘the stone you masons threw out, which is now the cornerstone.’ Salvation comes no other way; no other name has been or will be given to us by which we can be saved, only this one.” I have heard it said a few times concerning Jesus name baptism. Some people still believe in baptizing in titles. However, they pray in the name of Jesus.

So, if Jesus name has all the power to save, heal and have dominion over satan; how could it not have the power to forgive? It just does not make sense to believe in Jesus name baptism.

  19. No other name but Jesus!

11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

  20. Vs.32, “And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.”

They were of one heart and of one soul. Many times Pastor has asked us to pray for UNITY in the church.

Phil.1:27 says, “Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel.”

We need to be UNIFIED (ONE) as we work together for his kingdom.

  21. “They lifted up their voice to God with one accord”. Although there were obstacles/hindrances, they were steadfast and came together as one. Much can be accomplished with unity in Jesus. What a mighty God we serve, thank God for his word! God bless Jerusalem and you all, in Jesus name, Amen

  22. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

salvation – Theology. deliverance from the power and penalty of sin; redemption.

There is power in the name of Jesus! We can call on him to redeem us and he will save us.

Never underestimate the power of the name of Jesus.

And whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. -Colossians 3:17

  23. 17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.

18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

There’s just something about the name Jesus! It makes people uncomfortable and the devil will try to blot it out! But when all else fails, when everything comes against us, there will be a strength and hope we can cling to. Jesus!!

  24. Jessie-

    Who are you listening to?

19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.

20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

The treasures of God are hidden behind the understanding given by the Holy Ghost. People that are not in Christ Jesus dont understand the power in his name. It is impossible to explain what you feel and why you do the things that you do to someone that doesnt have the Holy Ghost so you have to decide whether to let God judge you or man. Doing Gods will looks crazy to the world but we have to stand and push forward through the adversity of our surroundings. The judgement of man ends at death while the judgement of God has only just begun. I pray that we hearken to the voice of truth that dwells within us to always give our testimony even in the face of adversity.

    Michael-
7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?

8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,

    9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;

10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

I cant believe that the priest didnt believe in Jesus! Thats crazy!

  25. 13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

I just couldn’t help but think on this phrase, tell me who you hang with and ill tell you who you are. Many times people can love or hate other by association. Having this in mind I see what wonderful blessing it is that people may see Jesus in you. That one can be a reflector of that shining light.

  26. God’s Choice

11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

God does not judge as we judge. That which people shame and tell to get to the back of the line may very well be God’s choice. The carnal mind won’t understand the way of God, and so we must guard ourselves to walk in the Spirit with the mind of Christ. If we are to choose God’s choice, we must be thinking like Him. He will lead if we will follow.

    Isaiah 55:8-9
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

    1 Samuel 16:1
And the Lord said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.

  27. 30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

Stretch out as far as you can in Jesus name and you’ll see great wonders. Jesus I bless your holy great name that is above every name.

  28. 13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

    I find this verse interesting.

The term unlearned (ἀγράμματος) means that they had no “knowledge of Jewish culture” beyond the Scriptures. Ignorant men (ἰδιῶται) was a technical term for those who had not studied in rabbinic schools.

I would rather be unlearned and ignorant, in areas of life than to allow pride and arrogance to stop me from boldly proclaming the Word of God.

I believe everyone should experience culture and get a good quality education but in reality culture and education will not get me to Heaven but obedience to Him will.

  29. Vs 13 No matter how inadequate we may think we are, if we are speaking the truth of God’s word, he will give us boldness and wisdom to speak.

  30. 31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

  31. Jesus

    Acts 4:12
And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”

The name of God (Jehovah has become salvation). It is the only name that saves us. Thank God for Calvary.

  32. Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. There is no other name but Jesus

  33. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

There is only one name that can save you and that name is Jesus.

  34. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

It’s all in his name: salvation, deliverance, healing & so much more. Knowing him allows us to speak his word with boldness. And there will always be those who will receive him as well as those who won’t. But we must continue reaching & teaching till he comes.

  35. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved

God is our one and only! People need to know that things in this world will never save them. Money, drugs, sex, jobs, etc. will never compare.. Those things will disappear but God is forever

  36. No Other Name

If we look closely at the context of Peter’s declaration in Acts 4:12, this is no kindergarten Sunday school class. This is no Basic Doctrine 101 entry level class. Peter is relating to the Sanhedrin, the rulers and elders of the Jewish nation. He is talking with the religious hierarchy, the ecclesiastical heavyweights of his day. These are the leaders who orchestrated the crucifixion of Jesus. With razor sharp conviction Peter informs them that the One they have rejected and nailed to a cross is their only hope for salvation. He lets them know that the stone they tossed out on the curb is actually the capstone that will hold their whole religious structure together. Without Him, they have no chance of finding salvation or wholeness. This is no poetic word game, and he sugar coats nothing. He doesn’t paint Jesus to be some sad martyr. It is a crystal clear declaration that there is one, and only one, way to heaven. There is only one name in all of heaven and earth that has the power to save …Jesus! (Ro 10:13).

  37. Verse 12 NLT “There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.” In the name of Jesus!

Verse 20 NLT “We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.” We won’t stop till the whole world knows.

Verse 32 NLT “All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had.” Unity brings forth blessings and needs are met, when we freely give from what we’ve been given.
