Acts 6

1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

13 And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

14 For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

  1. Grace precedes power
    Acts 6:8
And Stephen, full of grace and power, was performing great wonders and signs among the people.

Before Stephen was full of the power of the Spirit he was full of grace. A humble heart will allow one to have power. God is not interested in equipping the proud and judgmental to do his work. He is looking for people who are motivated with love and compassion. See grace and reap grace. The world needs a healing hand not a condemning one. Love each other and forgive each other. These are the principles of being full of the Holy Spirit.

  2. For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

Just like here today there is so many that take the word of God and make there own religion out of changing it and base it on lies. When you hear a word don’t take it by faith read it and find it out . Like Pastor says if it is not in the Bible it ain’t right

  3. 7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

The growth of the church intensified. Many more miracles were seen, and the kingdom of God was quickly being reestablished. The enemy was losing ground for the first time in thousands of years.

Instead of one man named Jesus disrupting things, now there are thousands disrupting things.

    How is this possible?

    The Stevens.

Although we see that Steven began to do mighty things for God what was happening was a direct result of a group willing to serve.

Things were now being done by the younger generation so that the pastors of the church could give themselves to prayer and the word.

We can explode in growth, and see amazing miracles by applying the same principle.

    Stand up Steven!

  4. 4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word

Reminds of the song: I’ll stand for Jesus and let the World Go By

In a world filled with pleasure, we’re tempted and tried.
The more that we have here on this earth, the less we’re satisfied.
The only thing that’s lasting comes from on high.
So, I’ll stand for Jesus and let the world go by.

    Chorus:
I’ll stand for Jesus, let the world go by.
I’ll claim His promise, He will supply.
We’ll walk together, my Lord and I.
And, I’ll stand for Jesus and let the world go by.

When it’s time to depart from this old body of mine,
I don’t want one thing in this world I can’t leave behind.
I want to be free to sail through the sky,
That’s why I’m walking with Jesus and lettin’ the world go by.

    Chorus:
I’ll stand for Jesus and let the world go by.
I’ll claim His promise, He will supply.
We’ll walk together, my Lord and I.
I’ll stand for Jesus and let the world go by.
    Tag:
I’ll stand for Jesus and let the world go by.

In today’s world this is why we have to be prayed up and steadfast in what we believe. People are watching us how we live and what we do. Our witness on the job is how we handle things, how we act and what we do. Co workers are watching that even when you don’t they are. So today take a STAND FOR JESUS and dont’ worry about what the world is doing.

  5. YEA!!
1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

Even though we see how the enemy can try and attack because we know that he isn’t to fond of growth in the Kingdom Of GOD, We are to ready ourselves for the in season and out of season!!! Here we see how GOD again fights his battle!!! GOD is soooo FAITHFUL!!! Show me LORD how to be more like YOU. I want more and more of you JESUS!!! I PRAISE YOU JESUS!!! I LOVE YOU DADDY!!! thank YOU JESUS…….HALELUJAH!!!

  6. 12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,
13 And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

Your enemies are planning your destruction. But we are on Gods side. And we have his spirit that dwells in us. Therefore we have power to tread on serpents and bruse his head. Haters goin to hate. As Bro. Godwin says it,” Don’t be drinkin no Hateraide. ” let’s be for each other and unified together for one purpose and raft is to reach the lost. Not to fight against each other.

  7. A calling to serve!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Ephesians 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

I love to be able to serve my church in anything I am able to. Lately it has not been much; but my dad always told me, that there was no greater joy nor greater honor than for the Pastor or his wife to ask you to do something for the church. No job is too small, I don’t mind picking up dirty kleenexes, nor cleaning the bathrooms, all jobs are dignified when done with love to the glory of God. He also had us threaten that if he ever found out that we were asked to do something and we said no we will get it. LOL. None the less, he taught us to work with all our hearts, with all our might, as if God Himself was going to supervise it. He didn’t know but he was teaching us the word, 1 Cor 10:31 31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. So please, be willing to do, look at what ministry you can serve and then serve it with ALL of your HEARTS!!!! I know we have plenty of STEPHENS on our mist so please STAND UP AND STEP UP and parents teach and raise some STEPHENS!!!!

  8. 3. Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

There are 4 traits of a great church leader in this one verse:
    Honesty
    Holy Ghost
    Wisdom
    Obedient

  9. 6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

    Called and chosen…
the Bible makes a distinction between those were called and those were chosen.
Stephen was chosen and in bedience did the will of God full of faith and power. so much in fact that people got angry with him in the words of truth that he spoke. but when you are called and chosen of God no matter how angry someone may be at your words you must peach the truth of the gospel.

  10. Let’s keep our Pastor in our prayers. He not only has to be Pastor to all of us, he is a husband, father and grandfather; not mention all the other relationships. With everything that is going on in daily life he needs time to focus on his Divine duty of praying and preaching. Let us all consider if there is anything we can do to lighten his load. Maybe we can volunteer to mow his yard, work in his flower beds, trim his shrubbery, etc… There is too many things to list that require help from the flock at this church and in dealing with each other.

Keep Pastor in your daily prayers

  11. 1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

The church was growing, the disciples were multiplied. Problems began to arise when people began to murmur, one against the other. You would think in revival when people are being converted by the thousands that harmony and unity would be what happened. Human nature began to be involved and people start to complain about how the church is being run, who is taking care of the widows and the daily administration of the church.
I don’t’ know if appointing these Elders was the will of God or not, but I do know that the flesh was still working.

Men speaking against Stephen, a man full of The Holy Ghost. These thought to bring accusation against him, were not afraid to lie. This man of God was persecuted because of his message.
My point all this happened in the midst of a great revival. I pray God help us have a spirit of unity at POFW.

  12. ilove to eat the Word

    Home Bible Study

7 “And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly…”

I believe this is how The Pentecostals of Fort Worth is going to double in the near future. Once we catch the vision of how Home Bible Studies and daily participation in the church blog “increases the Word of God” then we will reap the benefits of multiplication.

In prayer this morning God impressed upon me that the entire world is hinged on the Spoken Word. When we as the church increase our Bible Studies, we are taking the creative power of God and speaking LIGHT into the darkness. We speak in their homes the Word of God and God creates a new atmosphere. The devil does not want you in someone else’s house continually over the period of 12 weeks…FORGET that dude, Lets dunk on the devils fat head and give Home Bible Studies and watch this church MULTIPLY.

  13. 7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

This is the type of move of God we need in the city of Fort Worth. We want God’s Word to continually increase in our heart and the Saints to continually grow. We need REVIVAL!!!

  14. When a church is in the middle of growth and revival there will always be somethibg to do and opportunities will arise. Yet it is important for the church to stay in unity, faith, and continually have a heart of a servant.

We must learn not to fuel the fire by murmoring and complaining, bringing discord, or allow fear to cripple our faith. This will destroy revival. There is only one fire that needs to be fueled and thats the fire if the Holy Ghost!

  15. Stephen is the kind of servant we should all strive to be. Willing to do any task asked of him, regardless of prestige, like running the church food bank. And yet, or because of, God used him to perform many miracles and signs. We need to become this kind of servant.

  16. And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility. Everyone liked this idea, and they chose the following: Stephen (a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit), Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas of Antioch (an earlier convert to the Jewish faith). Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed amazing miracles and signs among the people. At this point everyone in the high council stared at Stephen, because his face became as bright as an angel’s. (Acts 6:3, 5, 8, 15 NLT)
What a way to chose a person for ministry, they were chosen because they were “well respected,” “full of the Spirit,” “full of wisdom,” and were “Responsible,” what causes one to be as these men? It takes WORK!! God has called you out for such a time as this. To work in His Kingdom, and not build your own little tiny kingdom, which one day shall perish. Self examination today!!

  17. Acts 6:5-7. The gracious nature of the early church is seen in its diligence and willingness to correct the irritation. This graciousness can be seen in that all seven men who are chosen have Greek names. The result : God prospers the work.
Col. 1:6 Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:

  18. 8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

Evidence that lives were being impacted by the Spirit of God working through Stephen can be seen in this chapter. He was guilty of being full of the Holy Ghost and convincing men and women with the wisdom and spirit of God, World Changer. Can we be found guilty of the same today? Lord help me to be renewed everyday, full and running over so that nothing in this world can hinder my light and testimony of who You are, and Your purpose. I want to be a World Changer for Jesus Christ!

  19. 14 For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

  20. “And the word of God increased”. Adjustments were necessary to accommodate needs. Willingness to serve (adjustment) regardless of task should be ones desire, for all is essential. What a mighty God we serve, thank God for his word! God bless Jerusalem and you all, in Jesus name, Amen

  21. Sell out
How much do you think they sold out for. Judas sold out for some silver. The price of these accusers is never told. Maybe it was so little that it didn’t need to be mentioned. Maybe they didn’t have to get paid at all. Sometimes all it takes to get someone to make false accusations is just someone else griping about something they did. When people are already griping or bickering it is easy to sway them. Stay positive. Stay holy. Stay focused on God. Don’t sell out to accusations.

  22. CHALLENGES OF A GROWING MINISTRY

1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

We find in this verse 2 Key CHALLENGES OF A GROWING MINISTRY

    1. COMPLAINTS – Wherever and Whenever GROWTH is present, COMPLAINTS are sure to follow. This is the result of CHANGE. Some churches never experience GROWTH because they fail to administer CHANGE to accommodate the INCREASING RESPONSIBILITIES of a growing ministry. As in any and every living organism GROWTH comes at different times and in different stages for each entity, occasionally this leaves feelings of neglect. Neglect is deceitful, because it never shares the entire story or reveals the entire plan. The question we must ask ourselves is “am I a part of the (problem) or part of the (solution)”? I am the complainer or am I a part of the creative team suggesting creative ideas to present a valid solution to a CHALLENGE.

We are wise to remember that anything growing will be presented with challenges. As a boy as I grew some of my FAVORITE clothes became too small. My pants were too short and my shirts were too tight, my boots got too small and my hats wouldn’t fit. This natural action presented opportunity for me to complain about what I had to surrender, however I always received something NEW!

    2. LEADERSHIP SHORTAGE – As the LORD JESUS continues to BLESS the Ministry of The Pentecostals of Fort Worth I am very challenged to keep us with the individual requests, demands and complaints that come along with GROWTH. Our only option to maintain GROWTH and continue growing is to implement the Ministry of DELEGATION. Our expectations are the same as those found here in Acts 6:3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of
    1. honest report – (Character and integrity, living what they say.)
    2. full of the Holy Ghost – (Walking in the Spirit of GOD, given to Prayer) and
    3. wisdom – Applying the knowledge granted us by the GRACE of GOD.
whom we may appoint over this business.

Be encouraged today to give yourself to the ministry of serving whether tables, chairs, cars, prayer, giving, teaching, reaching, caring or any other opportunity to expand the reach of the Ministry of the church to those that are in need.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  23. 8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

    A humble servant.
In that age I could imagine he was called a humble hero. Stephen did not make it to be one of the great named apostles of his time but something to be outlined is his humble attitude and willingness to serve. The descriptions given of him are something to admire. We can see on previous verses how the apostles asked to find men full of the Holy Ghost that they may focus on prayer and ministering of the Word. Stephen along with others was chosen to do the laboring part of ministry and direct serving and connection with people. Full of the Holy Ghost, full of faith and power and was used of God to perform miracles and great wonders among the people, yet he was chosen to serve the people.

  24. Vs.1, “And in those days, when the munber of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.”
Vs.2, “Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.”
Vs.3, “Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
Vs.4, “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.”

POFW has been prophecied to that we are going to have a “300 Soul Revival.” Pastor needs “ALL Hands on Deck” and to be a part of the ministries in our church. He needs to be able to focus on Prayer and Studying God’s Word, and we need a Servants Heart to work. Whether the task is small or big, every task in the kingdom of God is important. So remember, You are IMPORTANT in the Kingdom of God!

  25. The Serving Friend

8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

This chapter outlines how as the early church grew and needs increased, there came increased structure needed to support the Body. We see here how some in particular began to minister in more focused roles instead of simply general fill-all positions as those focused roles called for greater devotion if they were to continue to fulfill them. Stephen is a particular example of one who found himself serving in a more hands-on area, yet he still showed fruit of a strong spiritual walk and ministry.

Wherever we find ourselves serving, we cannot dismiss the impact of what God can work through us nor should we dismiss the importance of our growth in Christ just because we may not feel our role is overly “spiritual.” As we heard recently about the difference between friendship and servantship with God, we do well to follow Stephen’s example of seeking to serve as a friend of God, no matter how we find opportunity to serve. It would be a tragedy to serve but never know God…

    Matthew 7:21-23
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

  26. Seven Spirit – Filled Men 3. Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Ho’-ly Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. 4. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. 5. And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Ste’-phen, a man full of faith and of the Ho’-ly Ghost, and Phil’-ip, and Proch’-o-rus, and Ni-ca’-nor, and Ti’-mon, and Par’-me-nas, and Nic’-o-las a proselyte of An’-ti-och: 6. Whom they set before the apostles:and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

  27. 10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. -Matthew 10:18
But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. -Matthew 10:19
For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. -Matthew 10:20
And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. -Matthew 10:21

Trust in The Lord! He will give you words to speak in the very hour of need. Don’t trust in the wisdom of man.

The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. -Psalms 19:7

The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple. -Psalms 119:130

  28. 8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

God has a plan for everyone. He had one for Stephen, he shined for Jesus. Lord use me to do your Holy will.

  29. Vs 10 Even your enemies cannot dispute your wisdom when it comes from God.
Vs 11 It took lies to condemn Stephen.

  30. 1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

When revival comes, it comes with the need of people willing to labor for these souls beyond the ‘praying them through’. These souls are babes and they must be tended for them to become discipled. We have a Childrens revival coming and there will be many souls added to the kingdom. Will we labor to see children baptized & discipled? I pray that the entire church feels they are worthy of their labor. These children are the church of today…not tomorrow. Thank you Lord for this harvest!

  31. The Office of a Deacon

Wherever people are in fellowship with one another, there is potential for problems, complications and conflicts. First, century… twenty-first century, this is always true. In the first century church, there is a group of needy people being overlooked and neglected. the concern is clearly expressed to the apostles, and the issue is dealt with quickly, fairly and effectively. The leaders hear the complaint, evaluate the situation and recognize the validity of the need. They gather together and do some problem solving. Notice how these leaders of the early church do not feel they themselves have to meet every need and do every job. They know their gifting and call from God is to prayer and the ministry of the Word. Under the leading of the Spirit, they call out a new group of gifted leaders to meet some of the physical needs that are being neglected. They need help. The words “wait on” on Acts 6:2 translate the Greek word from which we derive the word ‘deacon’. This appears to be the genesis of the office of deacon in the church. Phebe a woman ‘sister’ is held in this position, whether she is married is unknown. What we do know is that Paul commends her “I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a deacon in the church in Cenchrea.” for her work in ministry. All this proves you don’t have to be a man, or be married to one to be in ministry or recognition. Women are pivotal, you don’t need to marry a pastor, or a minister to impact our future together. Waiting on, and loving souls is a position devoted to a caring, servant hearted deacon no matter the gender, race, or age. If God can use a donkey or a wizard, he can use you.

  32. 10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

There are a lot of people who know how to use their words swiftly to twist the minds of those who do not KNOW His word. Just as the devil did to Eve in the garden, there are individuals who will twist and manipulate the word in order to fulfill their wants. We need to KNOW what we stand for, what we believe in. Study, ask questions, pray

  33. The beginning of this chapter reminds me that we can all do some job, take on some task or help in any way possible in his Kingdom. This not only helps our Pastor and/or our Church; but, builds up our faith and strengthens our walk with God. Being a doer of the Word and not a hearer only, is what we are learning about in our Sunday School class.

  34. There is always something that can be done in the kingdom of God. Look around and do work where you see the need.
