Acts 19

1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

7 And all the men were about twelve.

8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

9 But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

10 And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:

12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.

15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

21 After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.

22 So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season.

23 And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.

24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;

25 Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth.

26 Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:

27 So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.

28 And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

29 And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.

30 And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not.

31 And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre.

32 Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused: and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.

33 And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people.

34 But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

35 And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

36 Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.

37 For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess.

38 Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.

39 But if ye enquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.

40 For we are in danger to be called in question for this day’s uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse.

41 And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.

  1. Alot of things happened here, such as revalation regarding being appopriately baptised in Jesus name and receiving the Holy Ghost. Then God used Paul hands for special miricales, and hankerchiefs for healing the sick. But he started a major disturbance when he advised them of their false God and their idolatry.

Many riots could be staryed today! May God help us!

    “Be blessed”……………………………..

  2. God is GREAT

I had a person that I will be beginning a bible study with, write all her questions down and I would answer them to the best of my knowledge and will show her the scriptures in the bible that will go with every questions as we do the bible study. This was the answer to one of her questions, was the baptism of John wrong… Praise God!!!! He shows up and lights a light to the word and understanding. That is why I love His Word because He has an answer to everything. This is going to be great!!!!!!

  3. 15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

Sceva means mind reader. He was a chief if the priest, or a high priest. He had a job that was honored, respected, and god given.

The seven sons were raised in the truth of that day. In fact they were known as exorcists.

The only way this is possible is if they had been successful in previous devil castings.

Now they use the name Jesus. The name that is powerful, and above all names. They say I adhere you by Jesus, whom Paul preaches.

It doesn’t work, and the man snaps on them.

He says Jesus I know (meaning to know, perceive, even as a man knows his wife) and Paul I know (meaning familiar with, acquainted with) but who are you?

Relationship is necessary for spiritual authority. When we know Jesus the devils will know us.

  4. 2. He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

Believing is good; if we didn’t first believe, we wouldn’t go any further…but believing alone is not enough – we also must be filled with the Holy Ghost. Many people simply haven’t been told that there is more.

Lord, help us reach this region with Your Truth!

  5. Verse 4 MSG “That explains it,” said Paul. “John preached a baptism of radical life-change so that people would be ready to receive the One coming after him, who turned out to be Jesus. If you’ve been baptized in John’s baptism, you’re ready now for the real thing, for Jesus.” This city is ready now for the real thing!

Verses 11-12 MSG “God did powerful things through Paul, things quite out of the ordinary. The word got around and people started taking pieces of clothing—handkerchiefs and scarves and the like—that had touched Paul’s skin and then touching the sick with them. The touch did it—they were healed and whole.” Wow, the power of God. Someone also had to have the faith of taking the pieces and then touching the sick with them.

Hebrews 11:5-6 MSG “By an act of faith, Enoch skipped death completely. “They looked all over and couldn’t find him because God had taken him.” We know on the basis of reliable testimony that before he was taken “he pleased God.” It’s impossible to please God apart from faith. And why? Because anyone who wants to approach God must believe both that he exists and that he cares enough to respond to those who seek him.”

  6. YES!!!
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
7 And all the men were about twelve.

THIS VERSE DOES NOT SAY THAT ONLY A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF THEM RECIEVED THE HOLY GHOST AND SPEAK IN TONGUES, SO I AM BELIEVING THAT ALL OF THEM RECIEVED THE HOLY GHOST WITH THE EVIDENCE OF SPEAKING IN TONGUES!!! THIS DEMONSTRATES THAT THE HOLY GHOST IS FOR EVERY ONE!!!

HALELUJAH!!! THANK YOU JESUS!!! THERE IS NO ONE LIKE YOU!!! I PRAISE YOU AND YOU ALONE!!! FOR ONLY YOU ARE WORTHY!!! I LOVE YOU!!!

  7. Do you want to go to Heaven?
2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

    It can be this simple.
    Do you have “IT”?
    Have you ever had “IT”?
    Do you want “IT”?

  8. 32 Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused: and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.

33 And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people.

34 But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

39 But if ye enquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.

-some people worship things that were either passed down to them or something that was done generation after generation (yesterday my mom told my little brother about the boy in the wheelchair and how he did and still is doing bible study’s how he couldn’t talk but make noises and use his hands and the card board to help him spell out words but god had shown him the amazing things he can do even though he couldn’t walk or talk God has blessed him with more then anything in the world my brother was speechless couldn’t do nothing but smile)
Jesus has a purpose for us all although we done so much bad we wish we can take back he loves us anyways if were crippled or small who knows he can even use a 4 or 5 year old were all meant to do what our Father our God has sent us to do
THANK YOU JESUS!!!!FOR ARE YOU GREATLY TO BE PRAISED

  9. CALLED TO COMPEL

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Repeatedly throughout the book of Acts we witness the disciples sharing the gospel of JESUS name baptism. Everywhere they go there are people who do not know the TRUTH of the gospel and many are stuck in religious tradition because of not being taught the Apostles doctrine.

Through PRAYER we possess a boldness to share the gospel of JESUS with those we meet and compel to see the Mighty GOD in Christ JESUS and the need to be baptized in the name of JESUS.

As we prayerfully walk in the light of the gospel, hearing the what the Spirit of GOD will speak to us today, I Pray that our paths will cross individuals that are hungry and seeking the gospel for answers and that we will speak HIS WORD with boldness and in HIS LOVE for humanity.

Thank you JESUS for this day, in JESUS name.

  10. 15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

This is why we must be covered by the blood and continually in prayer. When we spent as much time with God as possible and become a true friend of God we will have power and the darkness can’t stand up against it. Thank you Jesus for the power of the Holy ghost

  11. “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” he asked them. “No,” they replied, “we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” “Then what baptism did you experience?” he asked. And they replied, “The baptism of John.” Paul said, “John’s baptism called for repentance from sin. But John himself told the people to believe in the one who would come later, meaning Jesus.” As soon as they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other tongues and prophesied. (Acts of the Apostles 19:2-6 NLT)
Praise God!!! You must be born again!
Not everyone has an understanding of being born again, it is up to us to tell then the truth! Many people so things because of tradition not truly understanding why they do what they’re doing, such as lent, or being baptized as a child. Well…. Now we must come in and show them.

  12. iLove to eat the Word

    HBS
Paul was a great example of going out there and getting some intense Bible Studies going. He turned the whole city upside down. Not everyone accepted the message that Paul taught. I think that is where a lot of us are today. When we have Bible Studies and we are rejected we take it personal. Paul didnt take rejection personal, but simply wiped the dust off his feet and continued going house to house and church to church.

  13. 38 Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.

40 For we are in danger to be called in question for this day’s uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse.
41 And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.

Many years I have spent my life fightnig without knowing who was right or wrong, or who my real enemy was. My FLESH is my real enemy. My FLESH is who is wrong. My FLESH listens to the subtlies that satan lays out for me.

“Great love have them that love thy law, and nothing shall offend them.” “Jesus is the Word made flesh.” Jesus came to fulfill the law not to condem it. Jesus tells us that if we love him, then we will obey his commands.

All too often we allow our flesh to take an offense over something that we actually have no gain to get, WHY? I have found that my pride causes me to stand and fight even when I know that I am wrong, just to prove a point. (POINT: I CAN ACT IGNORANT.)

Demetrius shows us a very good lesson here, when there is no spoil, the dog has no business in the fight. There will be a day of judgement, and there we will have to give an account of all the ignorant fights we had.

  14. 1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

There are many believers in this region of Ft. Worth that just need someone to compel them with biblical baptism. Once you have succeeded in getting them in the water to be baptized, then you tell them that God has a gift for them. They will be open & ready to receive the Holy Ghost. This is the perfect time to obtain a Bible study!

  15. 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

People are hungry and curious, they will never know unless we ask them like this and teach God’s Word to them.

  16. 20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.
These men were full of the Holy Ghost on a daily basis. They were able to minister to the people, meet their needs, share the good news of the gospel in a manner that their understanding was opened and the Word of God prevailed and grew. This is our daily purpose: Be full of the Holy Ghost, meet the needs of people by being sensitive to the people around us, share the gospel everywhere we go and the Word will grow and prevail in our area.

  17. 1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

It’s important that we talk with believers about what they believe. I have been in church all my life. I have loved God all my life. But I didn’t understand who He was or the depth of what he had done for me. I only new He had given me a hunger for Him, for Truth. So I searched and believed even when I didn’t understand. And He divinely used my husband who had never been in church to lead our whole family to the truth, to the revelation of Jesus. And from there we continued seeking until we were rebaptized in Jesus’ name and filled with the Holy Ghost. I’m so grateful my salvation is complete. I remember feeling like something was missing or not right all those years. Because Jesus had already prepared my heart, the Truth of Him rang like a bell in me when I heard it and I believed. I encourage all of you to speak to believers who profess Him from every denomination. Speak with them about what they believe. He is already preparing the hearts of those He will call into the Truth. They just need someone to tell them.

  18. City Of Worship

35 And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

It was said, “the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper.” It makes my heart yearn to hear, “what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of Fort Worth is a worshipper of the only living God, Jesus?” Fort Worth is known for different things but God called us here that the people might know Him. I believe there’s mighty harvest and revival just waiting for us to step in, something that would cause an uproar across the region that people couldn’t explain. We must not see Fort Worth as simply “good ol’ Cow Town” but creatively imagine it as a City of Worship to God. Greater things are yet to come, greater things are still to be done in this city…

    Acts 17:6
And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also

  19. vss 4-5 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is ,on Christ Jesus.
v5 When they heard this, they were baptized on the name of The Lord Jesus.

The name of JESUS is indeed above every name . In HIS NAME, we obtain healing, deliverance , salvation , and miracles.
We like the apostles, should readily and consistently bear witness of the name whereby we must be saved.

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12

It is very clear the early church baptized in the name of Jesus in obedience to JESUS’
    own commands.

There are a lot of good people , that think if they live a good life and just believe in Jesus it is all they need to do.This is where God wants His children to let them know that there is more than that to be saved. We have an obligation to show these people the plan of salvation , just like someone had to show us.
Jesus help me be an instrument in leading souls to you!!

  22. 24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;

    Throwing out your gods.

If Jesus came up to you and said that you needed to get rid of …. Would you? Or would we dispute it and say I don’t gave a problem with …. It’s just as someone would say ,” I can quite anytime I want to.” And yet they don’t. These men were scared because they made good money at making gods. So when the disciples came a preached , the men became angry for they were not making money. Now if Jesus would say to you that you needed to quite your job for it was not good for your soul, would you? Or would your faith in God hinder you, because we did not believe that He would take care of us? Have faith and an open ear to hear what God says. He knows what is best for us.

  25. To be used of God, is to be known of God…

Teaching the truth, being a vessel and channel of blessing that God can use and glorify himself through, great revival with miracles sings and wonders, and attack on the works of God, (revival) through one man used of the enemy that gave an open door to the flesh,(what’s in it for me?) that sowed confusion that was causing division.

So many things to learn from this chapter. On verse 11 we see how God uses Paul to do special things. We see here that one must have a relationship with God to be known.

    15. And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

There were dealing with the supernatural, the spiritual world. They were not known in the sprit realm.
In order to do the works of the Kingdom of God we must be known. How do we become known? We have to become His. We must be born again of the water and of the Spirit.

John 3:5-6 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

We must first build that relationship with The Lord to be used as a vessel of God.

John 1:12-13 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

As one would read and get excited about the great things God did through Paul, at first sight one could get intimidated and say wow what would it take to be a Christian super hero? Paul, mighty apostle of God. However if we read his story we know that he was as human as you and I. So what would it take for you or I any one, to be used mightily of God?

Paul in the book of 1 Timothy said this about himself:

1 Timothy 1:12-15 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

A chief of sinners saved and redeemed by the blood of Jesus. We can pull some things to learn from Paul’s character, he was humble and knew where he came from. Always have the credit and glory to God, obeys the will of The Lord and is passionate. Must of all, like it was preached to us just a little while ago, he proved himself to be trusted. God trusted him and he trusted God. That is all pray of relationship. You or I can be next Paul.. I am remembered that Paul was ecstatic about Jesus
    And nothing else mattered..

Philippians 3:8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
The question will be can God trust us with His power?

  26. “The more part knew not wherefore they were come together”. There was much disturbance, yet many were unaware why. One would be unwise too simply follow the crowd, tradition, etc. as ones very eternity is at stake, whereas one would be wise, to adhere to what sayeth the whole word of God (Jesus). What a mighty God we serve, thank God for his word! God bless Jerusalem and you all, in Jesus name, Amen

  27. 12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

This shows us that its not the man but the power of God flowing through him that preforms the miracle. We are vessels to be used by God. Sumbission and unity brings authority. When we submit to His word and rhe man of God we become unified with the spirit and this same power is available to us. We walk in dominion over desease sickness and any unclean thing.

  28. 11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:
20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

To truly be submitted to God, tuned into His voice, and a willing vessel for use in His body. For His purpose and glory, to see His kingdom prevail, should all our hearts beat.

  29. Compel them!
He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. (Acts 19:2-6 KJV)

We have heard MANY people recently telling us that we need to compel people. This is the Bible telling us how to compel them.

  30. 17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

  31. 11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:

12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

The miracles is simple to God! I believe in special miracles to be performed in our midst. We will see it, experience it and celebrate the God who performs it.

    Jesus is a miracle worker!

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. -John 14:12

  32. Beyond Belief

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

The next step after belief is to be baptized and receive the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. It is easy for us to understand, because we read this passage and it is verified through our experience. Other faiths today do not see this demonstration simply because they do not think it is for the church today, or that it is not required. The will quote how in Acts 8 when people received the Holy Ghost there is no mention of tongues.

How do you witness to someone that does not have the Holy Ghost, but is a devout Christian? Well, you can bring them to this passage and to Acts 10. If you say you need to have the Holy Ghost to make it to heaven, you will cause them to become defensive. Thus, you have lost the advantage. Do not jump to John 3:3-8 and say the Holy Spirit is the born of the spirit. You lose the advantage. Most people believe that when they confess Christ or genuinely live for him, that they have saving faith. Use this as an advantage. Position the Holy Spirit as a gift that brings depth to their walk with God. Jesus said you shall receive power (Acts 1:8) not salvation. Position the Holy Spirit as a means for them to have power (especially if they struggle with sin in their lives) to live more righteously and be a more powerful witness. Witnessing is kinda like making a sale. Find the common ground that you both have and use that as a foundation to witness. Be bold with what you say. Use Acts 10 and 19 as references and assert that your meeting with them is a divine encounter from God and God has sent you across their path to strengthen their relationship with Him. No Christian (in their right mind) will object to the fact that their relationship with Christ has room for improvement.

It is not our duty to tell someone that believes Jesus is the Savior that they are going to hell for not having the Holy Spirit. It is our duty to ask, have you received the Holy Spirit (with the evidence of speaking in tongues) since you became a believer?

  33. The Name of Jesus

We need to get one thing absolutely straight. The name of Jesus is not to be used like a lucky rabbit’s foot. Their is no such thing as luck anyhow. In this story the men simply say the name of Jesus, expecting to overpower the demons of hell. Seven men are using the name of Jesus like a lucky charm or some mindless incantation. A fiugurine of a wooden cross can’t cast out demons, the same way the misuse of Jesus name doesn’t here either. They use Jesus’ name as they would any other god, adding Paul’s name just ofr good measure. They do not know Jesus, they are not filled with the Holy Spirit, and they have no right or authority to speak His holy name. Believers, on the other hand, are empowered by the Holy Spirit and called to operate in the name of Jesus- the name above every name. When we speak in Jesus’ name and the power of his shed blood, the demons must obey.. because Jesus is present!

  34. 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

It is a shame if we know people and we have never once shared any portion of who we are and what we believe to them. We cannot be ashamed to outreach to our friends, families or coworkers. Let’s grow as a body
