Psalm 8

1 O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;

8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

9 O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

  1. 6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

    God has made us kings and priests. We exercise out role as priest by bringing offerings, serving in the temple, laying our sacrifice on the altar, and worshipping God.

    Yet we seldom exercise our role as kings. We are subject to God. He is the king of kings and lord of lords. He has granted us dominion over the adversary, over sickness, over disease.

    We have dominion over the enemy, the spirits of this world, and things on earth. We must exercise our God given dominion.

    Why?

    For his name sake!

  2. 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

    5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

    Who are we? We are but the dust of this earth but God cares for us! Truly we are nothing without God. It’s by His breath that we even have life. Who are we then to boast or belittle? Made in the image of God we owe every shred of glory and honor we have to Him when really He is the only one worthy of it all. When we humble ourselves we realize that it’s not us but Him. Who are we? Not us but you o God! All glory and honor to you!

    Psalms 139:14
    I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
    marvellous are thy works;
    and that my soul knoweth right well.

  3. O lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth! Your glory is higher than the heavens. (Psalms 8:1 NLT)
    GLORY, GLORY,GLORY!!!!
    His GLORY higher than anything our eyes can see, or our hands can feel!

  4. 6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

    7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;

    …including panthers and their spirits!

  5. God’s Glory and Man’s Dominion

    Though the bulk of the psalm describes man and his dominion over the universe, the first and last verses make clear to the reader that the psalm was written primarily to exalt the Creator.

    God’s Excellent Name!!!

    Psalm 8:1 Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.
    148:13 Let them praise the name of the Lord: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven.

  6. He Made it ALL for us.

    6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
    7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
    8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
    9 O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

    All Glory and Honor is His, Lord of Lord, King of kings. His Name is JESUS!!! How Excellent is His Love that He made ALL, just for you, just for me. HE GAVE US DOMINION = “1. Sovereign or supreme authority; the power of governing and controlling. 2. Power to direct, control, use and dispose of at pleasure; right of possession and use without being accountable; as the private dominion of individuals.” He put EVERYTHING under our feet… The word is EVERYTHING, not some, not part, but EVERYTHING. He put the devil under our feet, poverty, and sickness. The power is ours to chose. Do we put those things under our feet and use them as a stepping stone or do we lay in the ground and let them get over us??? I chose to step!!!!! “Deuteronomy 11:24 Every place whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the uttermost sea shall your coast be.
    Joshua 1:3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.” ALL of it is ours, so go FORTH and step on our territory, Parker County, Tarrant County, Wise County, Johnson County, ALL WHERE EVER YOU FEET WILL STEP BUT YOU MUST STEP!!!!!!!! I CHOSE TO DANCE AS I STEP. HOW ABOUT YOU?

  7. Above All

    9 O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

    Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords, but I think too often as the cares of life weigh upon us, we get so caught up in those titles that we forget our heavenly King is different than earthly kings. We think of high rulers as far off individuals who don’t always have our best in mind and just want us to submit without regard for our wants and needs. But our Jesus came as a servant, a King who washes our feet. His Kingship means that He is Lord over everything in our life, every problem, every care, every hurt, every need, even every want. It’s not all rainbows and butterflies, but exalting Him in our place of need doesn’t mean getting taken advantage of in a dog-eat-dog world, it means humbling ourselves before the One who so loves us that He would give Himself for us. When we lift Jesus up to be above all in our lives, we yield to Him all those cares and weights so that He in His divine authority and sovereignty can deal with them in ways we can’t imagine.

    Isaiah 64:1-4
    1 Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence,

    2 As when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence!

    3 When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence.

    4 For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.

  8. Vs.9, “O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!”

    Excellent means excelling or surpassing.

    His Name, JESUS, is better or greater than and goes beyond any other name.

    Phil. 2:9-11 says, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name. That at the name of JESUS every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that JESUS CHRIST is Lord, to the glory of God th Father.”

    Bless that wonderful name of JESUS,
    Bless that wonderful name of JESUS,
    Bless that wonderful name of JESUS,
    No other name I know.

  9. THE SILENCER

    1 O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.
    2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

    NIV
    1 Lord, our Lord,
    how majestic is your name in all the earth!
    You have set your glory
    in the heavens.
    2 Through the praise of children and infants
    you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
    to silence the foe and the avenger.

    So often when the accuser sets assault on the people of GOD we are tempted to engage in a defensive arguing match to state our innocence or win the battle of argument.

    The book of WISDOM teaches us:
    Proverbs 26:4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.

    Arguing is a deterrent from PRAISE.

    James 3:10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

    Bless the LORD JESUS whose name is GREAT in all the earth. Whose name is above every name. Thank you JESUS that we do not have to answer every critic with an argument; but we can answer every critic and accuser with a PRAISE unto the name of JESUS.

    As we PRAISE the LORD JESUS for his greatness, we SILENCE the voice of the liar, deceiver, accuser.

    PRAISE = SILENCER

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  10. 2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

  11. This is one of my favorite chapters in the bible: O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! When we really think of how God spoke everything into existence, and cares for the very sparrow that falls to the ground, who are we that God would love us so much and be so mindful of us that He cares for our daily needs. His love is unfathomable, indescribable and goes beyond imagination.

    Oh that men would praise Him on a daily basis for His excellent greatness, His wonderful works unto men.

  12. 3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

    The writer said, when I consider the heavens and the work of thy fingers, things thou hast ordained. Knowing how awesome God is, no one could have made the heavens and the earth, but a higher power. Think about it how everything works like it does. The sun rises and sets, the moon stay in its place, light in day and darkness at night. All the work of A mighty God.
    Then he says (What is man, that thou art mindful of him). God breathed into man and made him a living soul, then made a way of escape for him. Made him a little lower than the angels crowned him with glory and honour, gave him dominion over the works of God’s hands.
    Then sent the Holy Ghost to him where he could be born again. What an awesome God!!!

  13. 3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

    4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

    5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

    This old song came to my mind as I was reading this chapter.

    Consider the lilies they don’t toil nor spin
    But there’s not a king with more splendor than them.
    Consider the sparrow,they don’t plant nor sow but they’re fed by the Master who watches them grow.
    We serve a great big wonderful God that cares so much about us!! Thankful for my Father,that is always mindful of me!
    Love you Jesus!!

  14. 6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

    We need to take dominion over what God has ordained. He gave us power over the works if his hands.

  15. I love to eat the Word

    1 O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

    Amen, God is great and he is worthy of all the praise.

  16. Who are we indeed?

    4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

    We are so futile in comparison to God. Our lives are like a breeze in the wind. What is 100 years in the eyes of an eternal God. Yet we think we are something. Haha. Read Job 38-41

    1 Then Job answered the Lord and said,
    2 “I know that You can do all things,
    And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.
    3 ‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge? ’
    Therefore I have declared that which I did not understand,
    Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.”
    4 ‘Hear, now, and I will speak;
    I will ask You, and You instruct me. ’
    5 “I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear;
    But now my eye sees You;
    6 Therefore I retract,
    And I repent in dust and ashes.
    (Job 42:1-6 NASBStr)

    3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.
    (Romans 12:3 NASBStr)

    We cannot get hung up on ourselves. We are but dust.

  17. Psalm 8:6 You gave them charge of everything you made,putting all things under their authority—

    We were created as stewards to have dominion over all the things created by God.

  18. 3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

    4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

    We thank God that no matter how high and mighty our God is no matter how omnipotent he is he is mindful of us. He cares about our feelings and our emotions and even better he visits us… He visits us in prayer and in praise, he visits us when we need comfort and support, he visits us when we need him most. We are thankful for a high priest that can be touched!!

  19. “What is man, that thou art mindful of him”? David’s humbleness and awe of God (Jesus) was demonstrated. One should be thankful for what one has, and praise God as David did. What a mighty God we serve, thank God for his word! God bless Jerusalem and you all, in Jesus name, Amen

  20. Dominion.
    It’s under my feet

    6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: 7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; 8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

  21. God’s glory and man’s honour 1. O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. 4. What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? 5. For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
