Psalm 17

1 Hear the right, O Lord, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips.

2 Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; let thine eyes behold the things that are equal.

3 Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

4 Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer.

5 Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not.

6 I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.

7 Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them.

8 Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

9 From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about.

10 They are inclosed in their own fat: with their mouth they speak proudly.

11 They have now compassed us in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth;

12 Like as a lion that is greedy of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.

13 Arise, O Lord, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword:

14 From men which are thy hand, O Lord, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

  1. Verse 8 said keep me as the apple of the eye. Being the Apple of his eye is a term that means we are well liked and obedient to him, highly favored
Hide me under the shadow of your wing. There is no greater place to be than under the shadow of the wing of all mighty God. I am so thankful for the keeping hand of God and his protection.

  2. iLove to eat the Word

Psa 17:3 Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

The word for “proved” here is the following:
    H974
    בּחן
    bâchan
    baw-khan’
A primitive root; to test (especially metals); generally and figuratively to investigate: – examine, prove, tempt, try (trial).

I know the Word says that God doesn’t tempt people, but according to this scripture God does send the fire to test us.

When we feel the “fire” and start seeing alot of the “bad stuff” come to the surface of our hearts, know assuredly that Jesus is trying to help us remove the junk from our hearts.

  3. Living for God God’s way

    Psalms 17:4
I’m not trying to get my way
    in the world’s way.
I’m trying to get your way,
    your Word’s way.

    Genesis 2:17
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and blessing and calamity you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.

    Proverbs 14:12
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man,
but the end thereof are the ways of death.

    John 3:6
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

We can’t learn godly living from a sin sick world. We cannot prosper in the spirit by taking fallen man’s advice. Though there are many well meaning people out there true kingdom insight only comes from the spirit of God.

This is why he said you must be born again to enter the kingdom of God. Without being born into the kingdom we can’t truly know what is going on in the kingdom.

The best we can hope for is a surface relationship but nothing deeper than that. What better tour guide through the things of God than God himself!

  4. 6. I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray. NLT

Just as we bend down to hear what our children say, so God wants to hear what we have to say. He loves us and wants to meet our needs. What a loving God we serve!

  5. Trying to be like Jesus will fill the void!

15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

There is no greater feeling that I know than to be witness to someone recovering the Holy Ghost. Just like Brother Henderson taught us, there is a void in my spirit whenever I’m not witnessing or praying for someone. If we truly have his likeness we would be about our fathers business, seeking and saving that which was lost. When I do that I am satisfied in his likeness.

  6. 15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

When we are content with what we have, God will give increase. So many times we say,”Give me more God. I’ve done really good.” Yet we had a n attitude the day before. When we are like Christ, we are Christian. But that means we must be like Christ, and follow his examples.

  7. 8 Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

In Spanish is “Guardame como la niña de tus ojos”… which means your very favorite, the one you love the most, the one you treasure. Lord let me be your favorite. Hide me under the protection of the shadow of your wing. I love You Lord.

  8. As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness. (Psalms 17:15 NKJV)

Everyday I will seek your face pray to have your will be done in my life and in all the situations around me. Everything I do is for your glory.
Even if everybody around me wants me to do something “fun” and sinful. I will seek your face and I know what’s wrong and what I need to do…walk away from temptations

******For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. (Philippians 1:21 NKJV)

  9. 4&5 I’m not trying to get my way in the world’s way. I’m trying to get Your way, Your Word’s way. I’m staying on your trail; I’m putting one foot in front of the other. I’m not giving up. (MSG)

I want You in every decision I make, in every word I say, in every footstep I take. Lord continue to have Your way; lead and guide me that I may always walk in Your will.

  10. 1 Hear the right, O Lord, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips.

2 Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; let thine eyes behold the things that are equal.

3 Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

I want to be a friend of God. I don’t want my voice to be a stranger to him but I want him to hear when I call out to him. I don’t want to be right by God only sometimes. I want to be right before god all the time, pure and blameless, with clean hands. He is so faithful to me and I will be faithful to him

  11. We all need God’s lovingkindness, and he will deluver us. He is our refuge and strength……

7 Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them.

8 Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,
    ————————————————————————–
I will behold his face, and believe to be in his likeness. More of you Lord Jesus and less of me. I want to look, sound, act and love like Jesus loves.

But, all of this molding is in the Fathers hands. He’s still my potterer.

15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

    “Be Shaped”………………………………

  12. 6 I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.

Does God know who you are when you call on his name? I want to be the kind of person that when I call on the name of Jesus he knows who I am…….God help us (me) to become the person that you want me to be.

  13. 3 Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

  14. 1 Hear the right, O Lord, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips

  15. Vs.7, “Shew thy marvellous loving-kindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them.”
Vs.8, “Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings.”

Two other passages of scripture came to mind as I read this today.
Psalms 57:1, “Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.”
Psalms 91:1-2, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God, in him will I trust.”
Psalms 91:4, “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.”

I’m so thankful, that when life is overwhelming, I can hide under the shadow of the wings of the Almighty, and I am safe. He is my refuge from the storms of life. Thank You JESUS!

  16. “Keep me”. David sought refuge in God (Jesus), from those that would cause harm. One must first recognize as David did, that safety is in the Lord (Jesus). What a mighty God we serve, thank God for his word! God bless Jerusalem and you all, in Jesus name, Amen

  17. 3 Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

To have one’s heart proved is not an easy process. I have had my heart tested and proven on several occasions. Some of the tests were failed and some passed. I believe both failures and milestones are beneficial and have made me who I am today. I am not perfect. I have my own way of thinking and continue to strive to be a better Christian, husband, father and productive member of society.

  18. 7 Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them.
8 Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,
9 From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about.

The enemy would destroy God’s people yet He hears our prayers & is able to deliver us out of all our troubles.

  19. Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them.

8 Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,
I want to be the Apple of God’s eye knowing.that God will be there every step of the way to .protect us..what a great God we serve

  20. 15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God, -Job 19:26

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. -1 John 3:2

The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. -John 20:25

Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. -John 20:29

  21. 15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

What a great verse for fasting! No need for food, I will be satisfied with the likeness of God. I will be righteous. Hallelujah!

  22. Deliverance from the wicked 6. I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech. 7. Shew thy marvelous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them. 8. Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings, 9. From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about. Vs. 7 Refer to Ps. 31 :21 Vs. 8 Refer to Deut. 32 :10 and Ps. 36 : 7

  23. 3 Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

When we are built on the solid foundation, established in His word, we can have confidence that when He tries us, we shall come through as gold tried in the fire, and we will not waiver or turn aside.

  24. THE EYE OF THE LORD

8 Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

Considering the covering that is provided by the all seeing eye of the LORD, we are Blessed and Wise to seek the LORD, honor and worship his presence, submit and obey his WORD. We hold this precious promise. We are HIS pleasure and joy to watch over and protect as we live and serve in HIS Kingdom.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  25. As for me, I will continue beholding Your face in righteousness (rightness, justice, and right standing with You); I shall be fully satisfied, when I awake [to find myself] beholding Your form [and having sweet communion with You]. (Psalm 17:15 AMP)

To fully be satisfied to have sweet communion face to face with God.

  26. Blessing

We know life is not all about money, but neither are blessings all about money. If our definition of blessing is limited to merely money and material things, then we have only a very narrow view of blessing. Jesus blesses in different ways, which sometimes means allowing us to encounter Him in special ways. However, we will miss the blessing for what it is if we don’t see the full meaning of what it is to be blessed. God is generous and faithful in giving many blessings that are often overlooked and hardly appreciated, let alone thanked; we do well to “stop and smell the roses” when it comes to taking inventory of the blessings in our lives. We will find ourselves much more satisfied in life as we look on how God has already blessed us. Things like feeling His presence, which we often take for granted, become more precious as we take time to meditate on how God’s goodness is revealed to us personally in so many ways like that throughout our day.

    Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.

  27. 3 Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

I have Decided to follow Jesus…it takes work and discipline.
Not that it comes naturally, but every relationship takes work. Action. Love is expressed on the power of choice. To be a Christian is not necessarily a walk in the park, but rather an action of everyday, taking up your cross, self-deniying, and following Jesus. His mind was set, made up, as it says in v3 purposed. In v4 talks about keeping his path, be set apart. A vision, mission and purpose; the result? To be like Him, Jesus. To enjoy the blessing and fruit of any relationship will take work and disciple and faithfulness to such. It is a choice to love God, to open up our hearts to Him, and thus the disciple and work of the relationship becomes an enjoying, I get to please The Lord today! We must make up our minds everyday just like the psalmist expressed and we shall build on that relationship with God that when we call on time of need he shall say to us, “here am I”
