Psalm 18

1 I will love thee, O Lord, my strength.

2 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

4 The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.

5 The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me.

6 In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.

7 Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.

8 There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.

9 He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness was under his feet.

10 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind.

11 He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.

12 At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire.

13 The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail stones and coals of fire.

14 Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them.

15 Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.

16 He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters.

17 He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me.

18 They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay.

19 He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.

20 The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

21 For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God.

22 For all his judgments were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me.

23 I was also upright before him, and I kept myself from mine iniquity.

24 Therefore hath the Lord recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.

25 With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful; with an upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright;

26 With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself froward.

27 For thou wilt save the afflicted people; but wilt bring down high looks.

28 For thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.

29 For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.

30 As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.

31 For who is God save the Lord? or who is a rock save our God?

32 It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.

33 He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet, and setteth me upon my high places.

34 He teacheth my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.

35 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great.

36 Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.

37 I have pursued mine enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed.

38 I have wounded them that they were not able to rise: they are fallen under my feet.

39 For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me.

40 Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me.

41 They cried, but there was none to save them: even unto the Lord, but he answered them not.

42 Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind: I did cast them out as the dirt in the streets.

43 Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; and thou hast made me the head of the heathen: a people whom I have not known shall serve me.

44 As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves unto me.

45 The strangers shall fade away, and be afraid out of their close places.

46 The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.

47 It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me.

48 He delivereth me from mine enemies: yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.

49 Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.

50 Great deliverance giveth he to his king; and sheweth mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for evermore.

  1. Verse 36 my God hath enlarged my steps under me, so that my feet will not slip. We need to understand the importance of having our feet planted firm on him. God is our shield, buckler, and redeemer we need God all the time. So let’s stand upon him and let him be our God. Keep me O God in my time of peace and trouble.

  2. 46 The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.
47 It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me.

Yes!!! My God is ALIVE for ever more. Thank you Jesus for ALL your Mercy!!!!!!

  3. 2 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

I’m here alive this morning because of His tender mercy! I’ve could of died in my sins without any hope. But The Lord brought me out of darkness and has allowed me to see! It’s HIS AMAZING LOVE💙🙏👏

  4. 46. The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.

    Oh magnify the Lord
For He is worthy to be praised
    Oh magnify the Lord
For He is worthy to be praised

    Hosanna, Blessed be the rock
Blessed be the rock of my salvation

  5. 25 With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful; with an upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright;

26 With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself froward.

27 For thou wilt save the afflicted people; but wilt bring down high looks.

So, what approach are you going to take?
We as the church must be cautious about our approach, and allow Him to enlighten our darkest of times….

  6. 2 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

    The Lord is my

Rock – strong firm unmoveable foundation
    Fortress- protection, walled city, defence
My God -” the God who knows all sees all does does all for his people” Dake
    Strength – force, power
Buckler – shield, protection in battle
Horn – power of salvation, saving power
High tower – “a place so high to be out of danger” Dake

    He is the I Am

He is what whatever we need as soon as we need him to be what we need

  7. 31 For who is God save the Lord? or who is a rock save our God?

32 It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.

There is only ONE God and Jesus is his name. It is our Lord who gives us strength and sets us on the right path. Our God is great and there is no one else like him. Any problem or situation we get into, God is able to deliver us from it.

  8. Vs.6, “In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.”
Vs.41, “They cried, but there was none to save them: even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.”

Proverbs 15:29 says, “The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.”

I love the Lord. He is my rock, my fortress, my deliverer, my God, my strength, my buckler, my salvation, and my high tower. He is worthy to be praised.

  9. 46 The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.

Amen. God is so good to us. He worthy of all our praise. He takes care, like a father, of his children.

  10. 2 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

    Reminds me of the song:
I go to the rock of my salvation go to the stone that the builders rejected
run to the mountain and the mountain stand by me when the earth all
around me is sinking sand on Christ the solid rock I stand when I need a shelter when I need a friend I go to the rock!!!!!!
Who are you running to in the time of need? I wanna run to Jesus cause he the only true friend that will help me

  11. 6 In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.
7Then the earth shook and trembled; The foundations of the hills also quaked and were shaken, Because He was angry. Smoke went up from His nostrils, And devouring fire from His mouth; Coals were kindled by it.

*When You call in God when in trouble in your time of need. The way he responds the earth shake and tremble. He clould make things hide in fear. All in the effort to help you.

For You have armed me with strength for the battle; You have subdued under me those who rose up against me. You have also given me the necks of my enemies, So that I destroyed those who hated me. (Psalms 18:7, 8, 39, 40 NKJV)

*Just leaning on Jesus I can and will over come anything the enemy . The war is already won. Just praise him in advance.
He will help you and guide you to destroy the enemy. That despise you
    . Thank you Jesus

    I’m having a good morning:))))))

  12. 2 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

Jesus you are all that I need. Teach me to trust in you with all that I am

  13. 6 In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.
7 Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.

Just a small cry from us & God hears & is our help. I’m reminded of the old song “Have a little talk with Jesus”. Combine his promises with prayer and in our weakness he is made strong.

46 The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted. Amen!

  14. There is a song that was played on Sesame Street when I was child called “One of These Things”. The lyrics were:
One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn’t belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?

Did you guess which thing was not like the others?
Did you guess which thing just doesn’t belong?
If you guessed this one is not like the others,
    Then you’re absolutely…right!

Of course, this was a television show, so the person singing would point to the odd item that didn’t belong. I found a similar thing in the chapter this morning. Below are two verses. Can you find the most important difference between these two verses?

20 The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.
24 Therefore hath the Lord recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.

Yes, I overplayed the simplicity of it; a little. However, the message is powerful. Often we can find ourselves pure and holy before God. The question is does the Lord find us pure and holy; as in verse 24: “in his eyesight”. How does the Lord see me? Not how do I see me.

  15. Wow…what a scripture of mighty deliverance! Deliverance from your strong enemy, and from them that hate you. This is the kind of God we have and serve. Then he places you in a large place. So, he picks you up from one place to place you in another place. Sort of like playing Chest, but not so much. But, God does place Kings and removes Kings too.

16 He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters.

17 He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me.

19 He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.
    _____________________________________________________________
He can exalt you above your enemies, and protect what is his. Oh, that he would indeed deliver us from todays violent men and their plans/schemes. And his gentleness made me great, and he blesses you with his gentleness. “Holy Ghost”.

35 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great.

48 He delivereth me from mine enemies: yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.

Thanksgiving & Praise…..shall we give to our Savior and I shall sing his praise continually with my mouth will give him praise.

49 Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.

50 Great deliverance giveth he to his king; and sheweth mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for evermore.

    “Evermore”……………………………………………………………………………..

  16. This chapter represents the perfect scenario of the groom and the bride to me. First it starts with love – 1 I will love thee, O Lord, my strength. Then praise and adoration – 2 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. Then when we, as the bride, find ourselves in situations where we need help or strength, direction, whatever we need – 3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

He comes rushing in like a flood, because we have established a relationship with him prior to having a need. Many people only call upon the Lord in their time of distress, and like a jack in the box, they expect Him to pop up and meet their need, and then they forget about Him until the next need. Not so with those that truly have a love relationship with the Lord, it is daily, consistent, constant, never changing, no matter what!.

  17. TRUE PRAISE

2 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

Praise is a popular word among believers. Few actually initiate sincere praise to JESUS, my observation is that most people attend a Praise service and never really achieve Praise, most a simply obedient and compliant to the music played, song sung or the words spoken. While this is admirable and necessary, the opportunity for sincere heart driven praise is never attained.

Prsise – to say or write good things about (someone or something) : to express approval of (someone or something).

While the word Praise is not used in this chapter, the expression of praise is exhibited. The psalmist lays claim to the LORD:

    My ROCK – Foundation
    My FORTRESS – Protection
    My DELIVERER – Savior
My GOD – Father and Creator
    My Strength – Ability
    My Trust – Hope
    My Buckler – Defense
    My Salvation – Security
    My Tower – Refuge
    Worthy – My Prize
    Saved – No FEAR

We see from these 2 verses, a great example of how to initiate Praise in our hearts.

Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Approach each Church service as a Praise opportunity not merely a Praise service. The attitude and atmosphere around you will change. Do not wait until the next church service; begin practicing NOW.

  18. 1 I love you, Lord; you are my strength.
2 The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.
3 I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies. (NLT)

  19. 3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

When we call upon The Lord in time of need if we have been faithful to him, he will be faithful in hearing our cry for help.
I serve a great God that is worthy of all my praise!!!

  20. Calling up on God 3. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. 4. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid. 5. The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me. 6. In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears. Praises to God 1. 21. 20 The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

  22. Strength

    Psalm 18:27
For thou wilt save the afflicted people; but wilt bring down high looks.

When we are in times of trouble, we must put our trust in God by humbling ourselves and calling upon Him. Trying to do it all on our own is pride and we can expect to fail when we try to take dependency upon God out of the picture. It is in leaning upon Jesus that we find strength and salvation.

1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

  23. vss. 1-3 I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.
The LORD is my rock, and my fortess, and my deliverer; my GOD, my strength , on whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies .

The Psalmist starts off with praise. For it is in our praise, love, songs and adoration where OUR GOD LOVES TO DWELL.

We enter into HIS PRESENCE knowing that HE LOVES AND HEARS US as we become awre of HIS PRESENCE we are able to receive ALL THAT HE HAS FOR US.
Call upon our SAVIOR ! HE IS ABLE!
HE IS MORE THAN ENOUGH !!!!
    HE WILL SAVE US!

    i Call

    iPraise
    iPray

  24. 29 For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.

When all the obstacles of life seem to align themselves in perfect harmony to seemingly destroy me I remember this scripture. This is one of my favorites in the bible. By my God I can run through the troubles, I dont have to slow down to find out if they are going to kill me or not, I just keep moving. I run till I get to the wall of protection and he lifts me over and I am safe. What an awesome scripture!

  25. iLove to eat the Word

6 In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.

I read this chapter early this morning and am glad I did. The Lord answered in a mighty way during prayer and I was reminded of this scripture. God is awesome and by the way…God’s not Dead, He’s Still Alive!

  26. “Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name”. David describes the key. The Lord (Jesus), is worthy of all praise. Regardless of the situation, again I say, the Lord (God) is always worthy of praise. What a mighty God we serve, thank God for his word! God bless Jerusalem and you all, in Jesus name, Amen

  27. 37 I have pursued mine enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed.

38 I have wounded them that they were not able to rise: they are fallen under my feet.

And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all. -1 Samuel 30:8

There are sometimes we have to go after the enemy and beat’em down. The Lord has given us the victory; take it all back!

  28. 19 He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.20 The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.21 For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God.22 For all his judgments were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me.23 I was also upright before him, and I kept myself from mine iniquity.24 Therefore hath the Lord recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.
God honors those who live righteously. there is a song from jonathan Nelson called “smile” it talks about living in a way that makes God smile and worshipping in a way that makes God smile. that is our heartbeat to live a lifestyle in righteousness that pleases God

  29. Doing the Impossible
“With my God I can scale a wall,” says Psalm 18:29
God has given us some great promises, and He will help us when we are climbing walls. “My soul clings to Him; His right hand upholds me,” says Psalm 63:8

  30. 1 I will love thee, O Lord, my strength.

2 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

I’ve read this chapter on different occasions but I had woken up with a song in my heart, And this first few verses fit right in. I just felt to worship and enjoy His love in His presence

    “🎵Falling in love with Jesus
    Falling in love with Jesus
    Falling in love with Jesus
Was the best thing I’ve ever, ever done

In His arms, I feel protected
In His arms, never disconnected, no, no
In His arms, I feel protected
    There’s no place I’d rather, rather be🎶”

  31. 1 I will love thee, O Lord, my strength.

2 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
