Psalm 22

1 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?

2 O my God, I cry in the day time, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.

3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

4 Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.

5 They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.

6 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.

7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,

8 He trusted on the Lord that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.

9 But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother’s breasts.

10 I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother’s belly.

11 Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.

12 Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.

13 They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.

14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.

15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.

17 I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.

18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.

19 But be not thou far from me, O Lord: O my strength, haste thee to help me.

20 Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog.

21 Save me from the lion’s mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.

22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.

23 Ye that fear the Lord, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.

24 For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.

25 My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.

26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the Lord that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.

27 All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.

28 For the kingdom is the Lord’s: and he is the governor among the nations.

29 All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.

30 A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.

31 They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.

  1. 26, THE MEEK SHALL EAT AND BE SATIFIED: THEY SHALL PRAISE TH E LORD THAT SEEK HIM : YOUR HEART SHALL LIVE FOR EVER.

  2. Verses 30-31 MSG “Our children and their children will get in on this
As the word is passed along from parent to child. Babies not yet conceived will hear the good news—that God does what he says.”

Proverbs 22:6 AMP “Train up a child in the way he should go [and in keeping with his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

  3. 5 They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. -Proverbs 3:5
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. -Proverbs 3:6

But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. -Job 23:10

Trust – reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing; confidence.

Trust in the Lord is not dependent on what I see but in what I know. I’m confident that He knows my frame. I know that he will take care of me and lead me if I will hear his voice and obey his word.

This is the day that the Lord hath made.

Rejoice and be glad in it!

  4. 13 They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.

Although we look from this verse and see the cross the truth is that before Jesus experienced this our souls cried out “My God why hast thou forsaken me?”

But God stood before the executioner and said I will die for them. Then he was crucified as us on the cross.

What an amazing exchange that God provided us who were so unworthy and undeserving!

  5. 16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.

17 I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.

18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.

David wrote the agony of his descendant Jesus Christ. You have to be very close to God to be able to feel what the future of your generation will encounter. I PRAISE GOD FOR HE IS GOOD AND HIS MERCY ENDURETH FOR EVER. He paid a price that no other can pay. He did it willingly out of love. Such great LOVE, pure LOVE, unexplainable LOVE !!!!!

  6. 21 Save me from the lion’s mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.

There are times when we get into a bind and it may seem like there is no way out, but God is always there. Our problems may seem big, but they are small incidents in God’s eyes. Don’t get caught up in your problems, God is able to bring you out.

  7. I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters. I will praise you among your assembled people. Praise the lord, all you who fear him! Honor him, all you descendants of Jacob! Show him reverence, all you descendants of Israel! For he has not ignored or belittled the suffering of the needy. He has not turned his back on them, but has listened to their cries for help. I will praise you in the great assembly. I will fulfill my vows in the presence of those who worship you. The poor will eat and be satisfied. All who seek the lord will praise him. Their hearts will rejoice with everlasting joy. The whole earth will acknowledge the lord and return to him. All the families of the nations will bow down before him. For royal power belongs to the lord. He rules all the nations. Let the rich of the earth feast and worship. Bow before him, all who are mortal, all whose lives will end as dust. Our children will also serve him. Future generations will hear about the wonders of the Lord. His righteous acts will be told to those not yet born. They will hear about everything he has done. (Psalms 22:22-31 NLT)
As I read these scriptures, it brings me great Joy, knowing that The Lord has not forsaken us, and we all come together to worship the True Living God… The GREAT I AM!!!!!
As we sing ” People from every Nation and tongue, from generation to generation. ”
We serve a merciful, loving God! Who desires for us to worship Him in Soirit and in Truth.

  8. 1 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

This one sentence that Jesus spoke on the cross should have spoken the entire chapter to those that knew & studied the word of God. This chapter speaks the depth of his anguish on the cross & his confidence that he would be delivered just by uttering the first sentence. His Jewish tormentors and to those who loved him also knew this great psalm of David and I believe he conveyed a nessage to both types of people that day.

  9. Where Will We Cry?

1 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?

2 O my God, I cry in the day time, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.

Where will we cry when it seems God is not hearing or answer? Where will we cry when it feels like God has forsaken us? Much like Peter, it’s easy in the good times to passionately declare, “Lord, I’ll never leave You, I’ll have faith and be faithful!” But where will you cry when the dark times do come and you find alone yourself on your knees praying desperate prayers you never thought you would, yet they seem to be only ignored?

Job faced unthinkable situations, faith-frustrating situations, theology-challenging situaitons, yet he still understood God was the one to cry out to. Job struggled to grapple with the situation and what to do, seeming lost as to exactly what sort of conclusions to draw about himself and the circumstances. Yet despite the chapters of misery and sorrow, he still put his faith in God and his cry was to Him. Job got to the point where he was done with “pretty prayers” and cried out even in ways that made him uncomfortable:

    Job 13:13-15 NLT
13 Be silent now and leave me alone. Let me speak, and I will face the consequences.

14 Yes, I will take my life in my hands and say what I really think.

15 God might kill me, but I have no other hope. I am going to argue my case with him.

Job dealt with the very raw emotions of humanity questioning the reality of situations that seemed to not fit with what we hear about God. Job began to get turned around in the overwhelming situations and God had to straighten him out in the end and get him back in balance, but even so, Job’s cry was to God. Job could have just thrown in the towel and given up on God and “all that church stuff” in the midst of his storm, but did not give up on crying out to God. As today’s Psalm goes on, we find an important bit of faith:

22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.

23 Ye that fear the Lord, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.

24 For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.

Until we’ve experienced it, it’s hard to comprehend the anguish of the dark times when it feels God has forsaken us and our prayers do not reach Him. But we must continue in faith to know that He is the one to cry out to, no matter how dark or unjust it seems or how lost we feel in not knowing what to pray or even how to approach Him. If it’s all about feeling, we will be quickly swept away when problems come. We must *know* now in advance where to cry out to and walk by faith even in the darkest of situations.

    Psalm 121:1-2
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

    Deuteronomy 33:27
The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms…

No matter how low it seems we are in the trenches of life, we are never too low for God to be our refuge and for His everlasting arms to hold us and pick us back up.

  10. NOT ASHAMED

25 My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.

This verse presents our entitlement and opportunity to expressly exalt and extol the LORD our GOD.

I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. (Psalms 34:1 KJV)

As we are active in praising the LORD we find at there is no time or place for gossip, backbiting, deception, lying or evil (negative) speaking.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. (Romans 1:16 KJV)

  11. (MSG) Verses 23-24
    Shout Hallelujah, you God-worshippers;
    give glory, you sons of Jacob;
adore him, you daughters of Israel.
He has never let you down,
    never looked the other way
when you were being kicked around.
    He has never wandered off to do his own thing;
he has been right there, listening.

Hebrews 13:5a-6 says, “… for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.”

Even in our darkest hour, it may seem that the Lord has forsaken us, but he hasn’t. He is there all the time listening to our cries.
Thank You JESUS for the promise in your word that tells us that you will never leave us nor forsake us, but you, Lord, are our helper.

    Let’s Shout Hallelujah
    Let’s Give God Glory
    Let’s Adore Him
for His Goodness and His Faithfullness.

  12. 8 He trusted on the Lord that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.

9 But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother’s breasts.

10 I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother’s belly.

11 Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.

You are my hope Lord. From my mothers womb you have had a plan for me and I want to walk in the destiny you have set out for me. Watch over me Lord when trouble is nea widen the path my feet walk on that I might not fall please don’t let me turn to the right or to the left if you have not authorised it. I need you Jesus

  13. For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.

  14. 23 Ye that fear the Lord, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.

We must fear the Lord and then praise him! Then we must glorify him and fear him. I am not speaking of I am afraid fo what God will do to me.
I am speaking of respect God and honor God with a fear that tells me he is my keeper.
We live in a generation when people will put up signs ( NO FEAR). These people have no idea what they are opening their hearts up to. Man will always fear something. You may fear sickness, death, disease, but the greatest fear should be I fear God.
Then I will praise, honor, and adore him for he is GREAT AND WORTHY OF ALL MY PRAISE.

  15. NLT 2 Every day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer.
Every night you hear my voice, but I find no relief.

There are times when we all go through this feeling, asking God where are you? Asking cant you see my troubles? Its a great feeling though, knowing God is always waiting to hear your prayers. God let me always continue to pray unto you, and wait for my prayers to be answered!

  16. 16For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.

Sounds like Christ suffering. We all suffer in life but how we maintain our integrity in the suffering makes the difference.

  17. “But thou art holy”. David needed God (Jesus), and he cried out. One needs God, even more so when one thinks one don’t. One that is wise will cry out to the Lord (Jesus), as David did; “But thou art holy”. What a mighty God we serve, thank God for his word! God bless Jerusalem and you all, in Jesus name, Amen

  18. 22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.
23 Ye that fear the Lord, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.

We must have boldness to speak to others about Jesus.

  19. A Psalm of the Cross

A Christian cannot read this psalm without reflecting on the use of the first verse by Christ on the Cross (Matt.27:46; Mark 15:34).

    A plea for God’s Presence

  20. iLove to eat the Word

22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.

23 Ye that fear the Lord, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.

I’ve heard some say that they can have church at home …which is true to a certain point…however this verse declairs the beauty of worshiping in the midst of brethren. AWESOME!

  21. 4 Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them. 5 They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.

What happens to us trusting in God? We know that God was able to work for those before us: parents, cousins, friends. They trusted you and you came through for them. Why have we lost our trust? Oh for faith to trust Him more.

  22. 29 All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.

30 A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.

31 They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.

  23. 1 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?

There have been times in my life were I found myself asking God this question… Jesus himself even uttered these words on the cross as he hung and died for us. But no matter how much I have felt like this God always hears and knows everything that we are going through. He is always close and his ear is always open to our cry… Thank God for hearing us!!

  24. 4. Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.

    Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

They trusted, He delivered. He never changes, so if we trust in Him, He will deliver us.

    Malachi 3:6
For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

  25. This chapter reveals David in a pattern of distress in his mind, yet he gets a grip and realize that praise is the way out of that situation, and turns his thoughts and his voice around to praise. Many times we invoke a spirit of depression on ourselves by the words that we say. We are sowing seeds by the words we speak, be them life or death it’s up to us. Even in our thought process. If we dwell on negativity long enough, it will overwhelm us, but the WORD tells us to think on whatsoever things are true, right, just and of good report …….. We are in charge of what goes into our minds and what comes out of our minds, we must guard our minds and our hearts so that even in a distressing situation, praise comes out of our mouth.

  26. v22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.

Prayers and Praise do bring results .

  27. A song of praise 22. I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee. 23. Ye that fear the LORD, praise him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Is’-ra-el. Ps. 135 : 19 24. For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard. 25. My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him. 26. The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever. Lev. 7 : 11 Ps. 69 : 32 27. All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee. Ps. 2 : 8 28. For the kingdom is the LORD’s: and he is the governor among the nations. Ps. 47 : 8 29. A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the LORD for a generation. Ps. 87 : 6 31. They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this. Ps. 78 : 6 Rom. 3 : 21

  28. Psalm 22:3, 25-26 But You are holy,Enthroned in the praises of Israel. My praise shall be of You in the great assembly;I will pay My vows before those who fear Him. The poor shall eat and be satisfied; Those who seek Him will praise the Lord.Let your heart live forever!

Bringing Jesus into your situation. We have great power in our words. Sometimes we exalt the problem or situation by how much we speak of it. We get frustrated, we don’t know how or what to do…in a way we praise the problem and belittle God. Why don’t we tell the problem how great our God is. Stop complaining and start praising God for the ability toile himself great and glorious. Start exalting the Lord who created the heavens and the earth. Praise not only confuses your enemy but builds up your faith. The Lord our God is amazing, he is great, he is mighty, he is a healer, he is provider, redeemer… Jesus is Lord of lords a f King of kings.

  29. 27 All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.

28 For the kingdom is the Lord’s: and he is the governor among the nations.

Everyone knows of God…at some point in there life His name has crossed their path and if it hasn’t yet..doesn’t mean it won’t. We all have a purpose in this world and it’s a way to let everyone know about God and sharing what He’s done. We are not only here to praise God but to help draw people to God…we are the nurses and God is the doctor just like the church is the hospital. We are here to help and serve God. God is the savior. Just like in real life situations God helps us to see the structure of things. He helps us by giving us His word.
