Psalm 23

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

  1. 5,THOU PREPAREST A TABLE BEFORE ME IN THE PRESENCE OF MINE ENEMIES: THOU ANOINTEST MY HEAD WITH OIL ; MY CUP RUNINETH OVER,

  2. …thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

It is a comfort to know the the Shepherd has the ability not only to defend me from outside enemies, but also to pull me from trouble I get myself into.

  3. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

The Lord comforts us through all of life’s journeys. On the mountain top and through the valley. When others are close and when they push you away. God is a constant in our lives.

My shepherd is not cruel but comforting.

Thank you Jesus that I have found peace in you!

  4. The Good Shepherd

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

A shepherd leads the sheep in the way they need to go, which may not always be the way they understand. Yet we see here the promise that as the Lord leads us His sheep, He is faithful to lead us in the way of life, abundance, and blessing. Feelings are a terrible guide and perception will fail us often, but Jesus is the Rock on which we can stand through every storm.

    John 10:9-14
9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.

13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.

14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

    Isaiah 28:16 AMP
Therefore thus says the Lord God, Behold, I am laying in Zion for a foundation a Stone, a tested Stone, a precious Cornerstone of sure foundation; he who believes (trusts in, relies on, and adheres to that Stone) will not be ashamed or give way or hasten away in sudden panic.

  5. “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want”. Although things may have appeared bleak, the Lord (Jesus) was praised. There will be diverse seasons in life, one that praises the Lord, regardless of the season, will be victorious. What a mighty God we serve, thank God for his word! God bless Jerusalem and you all, in Jesus name, Amen

  6. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

    I will fear no evil….

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. (1 John 4:4 KJV)

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. (Psalms 46:1 KJV)

Thank you Jesus for being with me alway!!
Thank you for your word that is alive!!!
For I am safe in your arms, I don’t have to worry, for in your word do I trust!!!

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7 KJV)

  7. MY ANSWER

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

    This simple but powerful verse, is more challenging that it appears. The greatest motivator to mankind is “want”; also know as desire or passion. The psalmist declared that when we allow the LORD to be our shepherd;

SHEPHERD – Pastor, to tend to a flock.
1: to tend as a shepherd
2: to guide or guard in the manner of a shepherd

Too often we are more keen to the guarding part rather than the guiding part. We desire the protection of the LORD, but often balk at the path of the LORD.

The key to “not want” is “total TRUST”.

Do we TRUST the LORD to be our shepherd?

The path can be but is not always inviting:
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

    The protection is VICTORIOUS
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

  8. His Name is Jesus

3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

He applied His Name to me, so He keeps me in the path of righteousness for His Name Sake. Everything that applies to His Name should apply to us. His kindness, Love, Mercy, Grace, Glory, Honor, etc… We should act accordingly to the characteristics of His Name. So be Peace, be Joy, be Righteous, for HIS NAME SAKE.

  9. Psalm 23 – Living Bible (TLB)
23 Because the Lord is my Shepherd, I have everything I need!
2-3 He lets me rest in the meadow grass and leads me beside the quiet streams. He gives me new strength. He helps me do what honors him the most.
4 Even when walking through the dark valley of death I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me, guarding, guiding all the way.[a]
5 You provide delicious food for me in the presence of my enemies. You have welcomed me as your guest;[b] blessings overflow!
6 Your goodness and unfailing kindness shall be with me all of my life, and afterwards I will live with you forever in your home.

The opening verse of this chapter in the TLB says it perfectly……because the Lord is my Shepherd, I have everything I need. His promises in the Word that He will provide that which we have need of, should bring peace to our minds that if He has not provided it, we don’t really need. Too many times, we all get caught up in the “I want syndrome.” However, if we can take this approach to life, if God provides it great, and if not, it is something that we don’t need. He sees all and knows all and could foresee down the road that what we “want” might become a distraction to our purpose and mission and vision.

  10. vss1-4 ” The Lord is my shepherd ; I shall not want…I will fear no evil : for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

    GOD’S Comfort In Affliction .
Despair and hardships will visit us at times…… HE WILL HELP us through our trials and tribulations .
    Trust in the LORD ALWAYS.

  11. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

This is by far one of the most comforting scriptures in THE WORD OF GOD.

    1. If the Lord is our shepherd; we shall not want! How powerful can it be, the Lord will supply all our needs. This comes with A price, THE LORD must become our shepherd. Care taker and overseer of all the affairs of our life, whether on the mountain top or in the valley.
I like the sound MY SHEPHERD!

Every verse could take many ideas, but I move to the last.

Goodness and mercy shall follow me, once again I see it comes with A price. I must dwell in the house of THE LORD forever. I must always be faithful to God and THE WORD OF GOD.
Do we understand what it really means to dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Dwell, live in God’s hose allow God to control our lives.
Are we willing to let God control us?

  12. Oh, Lord, how I love your word. This entire chapter, although so familiar, each verse so beautiful and powerful, able to stand alone as an anthem of truth for my life. Thank You, Jesus, for remembering how much I need You and giving me proper instructions for living this life You gave me to worship and serve you.

  13. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

  14. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

  15. The goodness of Gods will.

Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. (Psalm 23:6 NIV)

He never leaves us or forsakes us. In him is eternal love. He loves us more than we love ourselves and he is good.

  16. In your face Devil!

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Right in the middle of my troubles God has fed me. Not only fed me but prepared a feast for me. The house of God is always ready to feed its children. My Father is eager to feed his hungry child.
The table is set. Come and eat.

  17. How lovely the peace and rest that comes over me when you truly know at this moment in time you are walking with God hand in hand.

  18. iLove to eat the Word

It doesn’t matter what enemy stands in our way, when Jesus calls us in for supper, boom, we will eat at the table with the Master. Peace in the midst of the storm.

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

  19. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.
2 He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.
3 He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. (NLT)

“All we want, and all we need is found in Jesus. All we ask is more of you.” All glory and honor be unto You Lord; You are so good; guide and lead me for Your Name’s sake.

  20. This is one of my favorite passages. It is so very true, but it all will depend on if you will allow God to do so. He is a gentleman. Which means, he created us to have a choice. So you choose whether or not to accept Him,and be in the flock. We have that choice.

  21. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Oh we are so grateful to have confidence in our God knowing that no matter where we are in our lives God is with us and Wil protect us.

  22. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

    Dinner and a Show

Ive been to several places that are like Medevil Times. When I read this thats what I thought about. In my head I am sitting enjoying my meal while God is defeating my enemy.

  23. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

The only way we have access to these promises is when we are positioned relationally with him as THE LORD.

It doesn’t say the savior is my shepherd, or the redeemer is my shepherd but The Lord is.

Lord means he is in control. He is completely in charge and able to give us any order. We must be willing to allow him to rule over us.

He will lead us beside the still waters if he is Lord.
He will restore our soul if he is Lord.
He will be our shepherd if he is Lord.

    Luke 9:24
24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it:but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.

  24. The LORD Is My Shepherd THE LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. Thank you Jesus that you supply all my needs, and you are with me.

  25. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Matthew 5:3 Blessed [are] the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

  26. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Life is one of the hardest things to live….your daily life you are dealing with many things and some you don’t even know. Such as your co-worker is wanting to know more about God, but you don’t know that and your scared to share. But God didn’t give us that spirit..so we pray to God to give us the words to say to that person and have faith to confront them. God even puts us through tests to see if we’ve learned and if we can be trusted with more. So if your going through a hard time, don’t get tired, scared or anything…have the faith and the word that God gave you and you have him there to help. So stay strong He’s there for you.

  27. Psalm 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,I will fear no evil; For You are with me;Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

    Be courageous.

Always by my side. This life can be pretty frightening. Troubles arise when you least expect it. However we are constantly reminded how The Lord is always with us. In Joshua we are reminded to fear not for The Lord our God is with us. This is why we must keep the study of the word as a daily nourishment to our spiritual life that we may have faith and fear not.

Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation;Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life;Of whom shall I be afraid?

Matthew 28:20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

  28. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
