Psalm 38

1 O Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.

2 For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.

3 There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.

4 For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

5 My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.

6 I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.

7 For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh.

8 I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.

9 Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.

10 My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.

11 My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off.

12 They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.

13 But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

14 Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.

15 For in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

16 For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.

17 For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.

18 For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

19 But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

20 They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.

21 Forsake me not, O Lord: O my God, be not far from me.

22 Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.

  1. 15 For in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

16 For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.

17 For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.

18 For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

Our hope is in God , when we call on God we know he will answer. We must repent and have a spirit of humility to accept what God wants to do to us to give us our hope back.
Out enemies will rise up against us, our God will rise up against them and help us in our time of trouble.

  2. 3 There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.4 For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

Repentance is the only thing that brings freedom and peace. In our failure we should always look upon the Lord and repent with a heavy heart. Then, and only then can we retake our steps in the correct direction and unload our heavy heart and burdens upon the Lord.

  3. iLove to eat the Word

Psa 38:4 For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

Sin and iniquity have always been too heavy for the believer.

Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

We dont have to carry that burden anymore, Jesus wants to give us true rest and true freedom!

  4. 21. Forsake me not, O Lord: O my God, be not far from me.

Sometimes it seems like God has forsaken us and gone far away, but remember His promise and remember that He cannot lie…

…for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Hebrews 13:5 KJV

  5. Our righteousness is nothing in the eyes of God. We must humble ourselves before him and repent. He is a merciful God and just to forgive us.

  6. 21 Forsake me not, O Lord: O my God, be not far from me.
As we have heard from the pulpit we want a microwave miracle, we want it now. Sometimes God makes us wait to see if we are really gonna depend on him or if we are going to fix the situation ourselves. There are times when I/we pray that we feel like God has forgotten about us, but he is testing us. I want to pass that test cause if you fail a test you will have to re-do that test again.

  7. THE LORD KNOWS

9 Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.

Isolation and loneliness are tricks of the devil. The feeling of being ostracized from everyone and everything is the plot of satan. The father of lies would like to convince us that nobody cares about us, nobody loves us and that we are on our own. These are all lies.

    Proof:
Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Psalms 139:2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.

8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Matthew 6:8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

We are never alone, and never without provision. We must kick these lies out of our house. We are BLESSED, I am VICTORIOUS, I am Loved by JESUS.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap
    iAmVICTORIOUS

  8. 9 Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.

What are our desires versus our wants? There is a difference and we must be able to define the two categories. A desire or needs are things we cannot live without. Physically, we desire/need water, food, protection. Physically, wants could be a pepperoni pizza, Diet Coke and a new 3/2/2 house with a pool. Spiritually, desires could be; finding and leading lost souls to the Lord. Spiritually, a want could be the gift of discernment or the gift of healing.

Gifts should be appropriate for the age of the recipient. Most toys have a target age to prevent injury for younger children. Our Heavenly father has age (maturity) requirements on his gifts also. The Lord knows of our desires; there are many scriptures detailing this. It is up to us to determine if our wants warrant the attention of the Lord. If the Lord were to allow me the gift of healing, how would I use it? Could the gift create in me some controversy that could cause me to fall?

  9. But my enemies are vigorous, and they are strong; And those who hate me wrongfully have multiplied. Those also who render evil for good, They are my adversaries, because I follow what is good. Do not forsake me, O Lord; O my God, be not far from me! (Psalms 38:19-21 NKJV)

*They hate me because I do what’s good and I know to do right. The enemy is to big and are to many. Don’t forget me God I need your help your shield of faith and your word as my sword….dont be to far from me don’t leave me alone. I need you.

  10. Even when David was down,he still prayed. This is one reason ,I believe, why he was man after Gods own heart. Can we say that we pray every time we are in trouble. Or is that the only time we pray? Pray without ceasing. Means pray in all things.

  11. This chapter to me sounds like the cry of a believer who has caught a “sinful disease.” We know the truth and who our healer is; we know who our savior is. Turn to God and praise Him even when you think He’s not with you; just because you don’t feel or see Him, doesn’t mean He’s not watching or listening. He will give you that dose of deliverance you need, that dose of healing you need to get back on the straight path of righteousness and in His will. Thank you Jesus for being my healer; I am victorious!

  12. Put your fingers in your ears and keep your mouth shut

    Psalms 38:13
    But I, as a deaf man, heard not;
and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

Pastor tells us “don’t let your ears become a trash can.”

This is sound advice. When we close our ears to negativity, complaining, griping and gossiping we dramatically reduce the chance that our mouth will speak what we hear.

If we choose to listen to it then our heart will tell on us.

    Matthew 12:34
O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

    Abundance is
perisseuma; from 4052; a surplus, or superabundance:— abundance, that was left, over and above.
    AV (5)- abundance 4, that was left 1;
abundance, in which one delights of that which fills the heart that which is left over, residue, remains

This isn’t saying one or two thoughts. This is the overflow. If it comes out of the mouth it will surely be there.

The point is it’s not worth it to contaminate this temple.

Not in this house! Not anymore!

  13. The Power of a Made-up Heart

My loved ones and friends stay away, fearing my disease. Even my own family stands at a distance. Meanwhile, my enemies lay traps to kill me. Those who wish me harm make plans to ruin me. All day long they plan their treachery. But I am deaf to all their threats. I am silent before them as one who cannot speak. I choose to hear nothing, and I make no reply. (Psalms 38:11-14 NLT)

True character is shown when no one is around. That’s when you know what your “true” identity. Even though he felt the weight of his iniquity and sin, the isolation of family and friends and the attacks of the enemy, he still had confidence in his God to pull through and save him. Just as the bible states For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he we must think ourselves victorious.

I think myself happy, king Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before thee touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews: (Acts 26:2 KJV)

  14. 15 For in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

21 Forsake me not, O Lord: O my God, be not far from me.

22 Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.

Time to forget about this world and stop trusting the people in it. God is my provider and my protector, he will deliver me in my time of need because he is faithful just like he was faithful to save me. I praise him for not forgetting me and hearing me when I call, I thank him for helping me even when I feel like I don’t deserve it. Take this heart of mine Lord and bury it deep in you. I want to get list in you Jesus

  15. LORD you are my salvation.
Thanku LORD. For feeding my soul when I dont have the strenth to do it on my own. I will always follow YOU and keep close to you. Help me that I close my mouth and trust that You Jesus, will deliver me to the desires of my heart. Thank you Jesus.

  16. 3 There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.

Sin separates us from God. We can feel the distance when we sin. When you live for God then you become separated the desire to return to His presence is strong. Repentance is such a merciful gift to us.

  17. 5 My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.

Sin has it’s consequences. Not only does it destroy our spirit, but if left unreported of, we carry it around and it will begin to eat away at us mentally, physically, emotionally and soon become a root in our heart. We must take precaution to repent quickly, turn from our wicked ways and be cleansed by the power of the blood of the Lamb.

There is nothing worse than seeing the shell of an empty person who has allowed the stench of sin to destroy them.

  18. Hear my Cry 18. For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin. 19. But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongly are multiplied. 20. They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is. 21. Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God, be not far from me. 22. Make haste to help me, O LORD my salvation. I AM VICTORIOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!! THROUGH JESUS CHRIST YES I AM AMEN

  19. Worship In Victory

We have a summary of our humanity in this Psalm: help me, God, I’ve messed up and I can’t recover from all this on my own. Sin is no small thing but once we’ve acknowledged it to God and dealt with it, we must move on. Focusing simply on our past wrong will not produce a victorious mindset in us but weigh us down. This little snippet from v15-18 shows both the cry to God and the expectation of what will come after God helps, identifying some key points:

    1) The sin and it’s fallout was still an issue
    2) Acknowledgment of sin and repentance was willingly and sincerely offered
    3) Purposed that victory over the situation(s) would become a worship to God

It’s that last point in the process that we sometimes miss. Our victory isn’t just for us, but it gives glory to God. We as Christians bear His name, so His name is on the line when it comes to our daily walk and victory. V16 describes the possibility of the Psalmist’s adversaries magnifying themselves against him and rejoicing over him in his failings; the reality is that for us who bear the Name of Jesus, such magnifying and rejoicing from adversaries is not just against us but against God. It becomes His Name dragged through the mud and not simply our personal reputation. But the inverse is true as well; when we are victorious, it become His name magnifyed and exalted, His reputation glorified.

Our victory is more than just for our wellbeing and enjoyment, it is an opportunity for us to worship God. When we bring it into those terms, it becomes a lot more than just, “do I have enough victory right now to squeek through the pearly gates if judgment came now?” We can think of our victory as our daily offering to God. In that scenario, what does our offering look like? Would it be pleasing and acceptable to God?

Both Cain and Abel brought something to God, but one was focused on what he wanted to bring while the other concerned himself with what God actually wanted. Could it be our attempts to please God are falling flat because our offering is more about what we want than what God wants? Could it be a lack of victory is robbing us of the opportunity to give sacrifices truly pleasing to God? Abel’s offering brought a sacrifice of blood while Cain’s was simply fruit of the ground; could it be we are trying unsuccessfully to offer up sacrifices of spiritual fruit, while skipping over our need for His Blood and failing to offer the basic worship that results from a life victorious and washed in His Blood?

    I am reminded of:

    1 Corinthians 13:1-3
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

God is love; without Him as our victory, what’s the purpose of all our “highly spiritual” sacrifices? Speaking in tongues (I believe ministering in teaching, preaching, and singing also falls here), operating in spiritual gifts, knowing the Word, having great faith, being used in the miraculous, giving to the needy (I believe this also parallels to soulwinning), even suffering and dying for the gospel’s sake: according to this passage in 1 Corinthians, all this does not automatically mean you have love and are victorious. Could all this be summed up as the offering of Cain if we are lacking the true covering of the Blood and living in victory?

    Genesis 4:6-7
And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

Our victory is a worship to God. What sort of offering will we bring today?

    1 Peter 2:5
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

    1 Chronicles 16:29
Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

  20. 15 For in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

16 For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.

There is hope in The Lord ! When we see a brother or sister falling we need to try and lift them up and give them hope. But so many times when someone becomes weak in the spirit , people do not think of what they are doing when they start talking about that person and ruining there character that it is just pushing that person further down and causing them to lose hope in the only thing that can help them.
Encourage someone, let’s be VICTORIOUS !!

  21. 13 But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

Gossip can tear down, and a peaceful silent mouth can be the wise weapon. When we speak to the Lord (pray) we place our situation in His hands trusting that He will take action. David was not deaf or dumb it was a decision he made up within himself to not ignore what people were saying and plotting against him.

  22. A plea, a cry for help and not to allow our enemies to rejoice over us nor letting our foot slip. Also, with a sorrowfull cry of repentance.

16 For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.

17 For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.

18 For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.
    _________________________________________
Knowing who your strength is and admitting your sin and repentance, can bring you back to God with restoration, in Jesus name. He will never leave you nor forsake you. He loves you………..

21 Forsake me not, O Lord: O my God, be not far from me.

22 Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.

    “JESUS”,…………My Salvation…………….

  23. 15 For in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.
Lord you are my hope, and I trust that as I cry out to you in times of trouble , you hear my cry. Thank you Lord for always being with me!

  24. Verses 21-22 NIV “Lord, do not forsake me; do not be far from me, my God. Come quickly to help me, my Lord and my Savior.”

In the times you think you don’t feel God or that he is not hearing your prayer, we must remember that he is there. Do not quit, for you have to pray yourself into the answer and/or into the victory.

  25. NLT 1O Lord, don’t rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your rage!
Just like when you were a little kid. You know your in trouble, and your going to get disciplined. You wish your parent wont be angry, you beg, and cry for mercy, because you know what is coming.
God may not physically discipline us, but will spiritually discipline us. We ask for forgiveness and ask God, not to forsake you. Thank you God for your mercy you have shown on me, and forgiving me for my sins.

  26. “Because of my foolishness”. David was open. One must first be open with self and God (Jesus), for only then is one ready. What a mighty God we serve, thank God for his word! God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all, in Jesus name, Amen

  27. 4 For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.
5 My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.
6 I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.
21 Forsake me not, O Lord: O my God, be not far from me.
22 Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.

On our worst day when we find ourself in the pit of our own sins, we can still confess our faults to God. We can cry from the belly of the whale or from the darkest dungeon and speak to our savior. Confession and repentance go a long way & must come first before deliverance & restoration. But no situation is too hard for God. I hear those falling.

  28. Your victory can only be as big as your enemy.

19 But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

My enemy has been alive and well lately. He has given me a good fight. I stand today victorious over a lying devil.
He is big and nasty but I got news for him. My God is greater.

    1 John 4:
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

His name is greater and his blood is more powerful!

  29. Vs.17, “For I am ready to halt, (to stop; cease or cause to cease), and my sorrow is continually before me.”
Vs.18, “For I will declare (to make clearly known; state or announce openly, formally, or in definite terms) mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.”

Jesus wants us to declare our sins to him, be sorry for our sins, halt or cease from sin, and turn away from sin. Jesus will forgive us of our sins when we REPENT.
1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

  30. My God is always bigger than the battles that come against us. Let go of the situation and let God handle it. Our (my) life would be much easier when we let God take control!

He is bigger than any adversity!

  31. My hope is in the lord

15 For in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

He has heard my petition. The door is about to be opened.

  32. When troubles arise…
6 I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.

My God is greater and his blood is more powerful! If I lean of The Lord whom I love and receive his strength from the secret place of the almighty, then I am victorious in Christ! If I do it on my own I fail. Thank you JESUS that I never have to be alone. Thank you JESUS that in the face of adversity I have the joy of The Lord for my strength.

  33. Sins Are a Heavy Burden
    38:1-22
v.18 For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.
II Cor. 7:9,10 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive
    damage by us in nothing.

    A Repentant Heart
    Psalm 38:15-22
v.15 For in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.
    I wait for thee, O Lord!!!!#

  34. Repentance

The state if sin brings about pain. As simple as that. They become a heave burden that none can carry for long. You ask yourself; where has my life gone? Where is the joy in all this? Why am I tired of living when supposedly I have it all?…the answer is the burden and huge heave weight of sin. Little by little it eats away your life, till your left dry dead, spiritually. The signs may be there but somehow the deceiver has blinded and you keep going, weights are getting heavier to carry. Things just don’t seem to be going right anymore. Havoc. The only hope is repentance… You d walked away from the path of righteousness. Repent! Stop what you’re doing turn around the other way and get back.

In this chapter David opens explaining of the heaviness of sin. There is no soundness to his flesh and no rest for his bones. The great and mighty David and in the perfect stage of weak, frail, human sinfulness. What made him great however is the fact that he realized where his trouble came from, sin. And had a repentant heart about it. He cried out and prayed to The Lord. On verse 18 he said for I will declare, confess, his sin and will be sorry for it.

If everything seems to be going wrong and your enemies are getting ahead of you, one would be wise to analyze ones life. It might be that one may have a “Kingdom” problem.

Psalm 32:3-5 When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. I acknowledge my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

1 John 1:8-9 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Psalm 32:1 Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
