Psalm 44

1 We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.

2 How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.

3 For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.

4 Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.

5 Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.

6 For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

7 But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.

8 In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.

9 But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.

10 Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves.

11 Thou hast given us like sheep appointed for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen.

12 Thou sellest thy people for nought, and dost not increase thy wealth by their price.

13 Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.

14 Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.

15 My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,

16 For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger.

17 All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.

18 Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;

19 Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.

20 If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;

21 Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

22 Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

23 Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever.

24 Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression?

25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust: our belly cleaveth unto the earth.

26 Arise for our help, and redeem us for thy mercies’ sake.

  1. v1 We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou fists in their days, in times of old.

This verse brought to mind that we have never seen the LORD, yet we have heard of HIS GREATNESS and we have never have been where HE DWELLS, but faith we still believe that HE waits for HIS BRIDE and will welcome us to HIS home some sweet day.

“Without faith it is impossible to please God.” Hebrews 11:6

It is GOD’S will to intervene in our immediate circumstances.
No matter how dark it may seem HE KNOWS exactly where we are.

Let’s move forward as the Psalamist did in faith and obedience and we too will see all the riches and power of heaven.

Stand and claim HIS PROMISES !!!
    HE IS FAITHFUL !!!

I am victorious through CHRIST JESUS!

  2. 1. We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.

    17. All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.
    18. Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;

It’s important to keep telling the next generation what God has done; it’s because of these handed-down testimonies that they had the faith to not give up when it looked like God had fallen asleep on them.

  3. “All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee”. One may have seasons in life that are unpleasant. Never the less one must be unwavering and never forget ones Maker (Jesus), for there are victories for those that do. What a mighty God we serve, thank God for his word! God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all, in Jesus name, Amen

  4. The motto that keeps the drive to teach kids is that children are the future of tomorrow. Molding their mind to help better the future. It’s in our hands to keep this fire and Word of God going! If we don’t influence our kids with the Word of God what is going to influence them?

  5. The Maker of all…
What a blessing it is to be a follower of God. I pray that I can descerne His voice and only His voice I hear.
Thank you Jesus for being the light to my world.

  6. Home Run

How good is your swing? This Psalm reminds me of baseball and the concept of the “strike zone.” This zone represents the space through which a pitcher must throw the ball if it is to be considered a “strike” and not counted as a “ball” if unhit. We know the rule-turned-adage, “three strikes and you’re out,” so we can see the value in a pitcher throwing strikes. On the contrary to strikes, if a pitcher ends up throwing four “balls,” then the batter automatically advances to 1st base (called a “walk”) and anyone else on base advances a place as well. And all this scoring comes in with the Umpire’s assesment of whether an unhit pitch has passed through the strike zone or not, a zone defined by certain points on each individual player’s body. This seems simple enough, though for the batter it gets a little harder in that every missed attempt at hitting the ball becomes a strike even if it was outside the strike zone. If you’re going to make the attempt, you better make the most of it.

So what about this Psalm? I think of the Psalmist writing almost from the perspective of a player up to bat, up against a mean opposing team and staring down a pitcher whose a better player than himself, a fact both of them know. The batter knows his success is not going to come with relying on himself. V6 talks about not trusting in our ability or resources or privileges, etc to save, but I don’t think this means God expects us to lay down and not get to work using what He’s given us to the best of our ability. What I imagined was that disadvantaged player up to bat, knowing the reality of the situation, and then God steps in and says “just swing when the ball is thrown.”

The pitch is made, the batter follows God’s lead and swings, and there’s a loud crack as the ball is hurled back over the pitcher’s head towards the fence. The strike zone disappeared and became the God-zone. The ability of the batter was overshadowed by God taking over and using the obedient, faith-filled actions of the batter to connect with the ball. The player swung, but God hit the ball. God was in control, it was sure to be exactly what was needed; the ball that was meant to strike out the batter became the game-winning hit, a home run at a critical time.

Now we revisit v8. The winning team could have lifted up the victorious underdog batter but instead they recognize, “our boast is in the Lord.” It’s easy to give God credit when we just stand back and watch Him work, but it’s a deeper faith that is required for Him to work along side our actions as He often desires. Why? It’s much more tempting to remember our actions and forget God’s role and give ourselves the credit. It’s the deeper faith that sees God’s hand at work even after the fact and gives Him the glory. Let’s not miss the home run we need, not because we don’t have faith for God to work, but because we don’t have the faith to give Him glory for His role no matter how He chooses to handle it.

    Psalm 34:1-3
1 I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

2 My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.

3 O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.

  7. I AM VICTORIOUS

Hear oh Israel, the LORD our GOD is ONE LORD. Thou shalt have NO OTHER gods before me. Onr LORD, One FAITH. One BAPTISM. Seek ye FIRST the Kingdom of GOD. Thou art my King O GOD. I can do all things through Christ.

These are some of the verses that inspire me and prepare me for the day, to remind me that JESUS is my LORD and GOD, my hope and strength, my joy and peace, my shelter and VICTORY.

The psalmist recognizers the goodness of GOD and praises HIM accordingly, recognizing that every VICTORY won was not the works of mans hand, but by the mercy and grace of guiding mans hand. We are in grave danger and headed for destruction if and when we think that we have earned or deserve the wonderful blessings of GOD.

If you have anything today, give GOD thanks for IT! If you can do anything today, give GOD thanks for IT. BOAST in the LORD and HIS goodness and VICTORY or risk loosing IT.

Nothing we obtain is through our own strength. All the earth is His and the fullness thereof. Everything exists because of God. Every victory, every battle, every trial, every mountaintop experience, all comes from the Lord. We must never get to the place, puffed up in ourselves, that we think we did any of this, or accomplished anything on our own.

God is my refuge and strength. In Him I live, move and breathe and have my being!

    Favour #H7521

A primitive root; to be pleased with; specifically to satisfy a debt: – (be) accept (-able), accomplish, set affection, approve, consent with, delight (self), enjoy, (be, have a) favour (-able), like, observe, pardon, (be, have, take) please (-ure), reconcile self.

To have favour with the Lord is to be forgiven and to walk in that forgiveness. Let’s all have favour today and walk in that favour.

Cain and Abel both had an opportunity to walk in the favour of God, but only Abel gave the offering that would fulfill the debt.

Jesus is the fulfilment of every debt, we can find true favour through Him. When we give that acceptable offering, his Spirit will bear witness with ours.

  10. Only by your power can we push back our enemies; only in your name can we trample our foes. I do not trust in my bow; I do not count on my sword to save me. You are the one who gives us victory over our enemies; you disgrace those who hate us. (Psalms 44:5-7 NLT)
I am thankful that it’s not through my ability that my battles are fought and won, but every battle is won in His name, by His strength, and His Spirit!!

  11. Past victories for future success.

The psalmist remembers the times in the past where God delivered the people and encourages himself for the present dilemma. He praises God indirectly by mentioning His sovereignty. Gods seemingly lack of action in present trouble is mentioned and the psalmist speaks of how the people have done no wrong. This is a situation similar to Job. He continues to plead for Gods help through mercy.

We are often in dire times I. Out lives where we must go back to past successes and testimonies to encourage ourselves. Anytime there is trouble in our lives and we examine ourselves to determine if it is self inflicted or not, when we have done no wrong we can remain confident that God is a just God and he will intervene when the time is right.

  12. You drove out the pagan nations by your power and gave all the land to our ancestors. You crushed their enemies and set our ancestors free.

*God get rid of all the Pagans. Give us what they had so we can turn it around and us it for your kingdom.

But for your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep. (Psalms 44:2, 22 NLT)

*we have to die dalily. Repentense everyday.

  13. 5 Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.

6 For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

7 But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.

8 In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.

No weapon is strong than God and with ever battle and trial I go through all I need is God. But many say you will need the bible too, but just like God told us in His word….
    John 1:1 KJV
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” So as you See All we need is God, because God just told us that He is the word. So I will be Victorious and win the battles and the trials with the help of God. During The hard Times and the good times I will praise Him and thank Him for everything.

  14. 22 Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

Sheep will have the right attitude all the way up to the slaughter house. It doesn’t matter how crazy things get. We should never worry. God knows what he is doing and is completely in control.

  15. 7 You are the one who gives us victory over our enemies; you disgrace those who hate us.
8 O God, we give glory to you all day long and constantly praise your name. Interlude (NLT)

I give You glory for all the victories You have brought me Lord!

  16. ASK: The psalmist is asking for God’s help. God can deliver or he can bring us to the valley of the shadow of death. When we are struggling we must examine ourselves like he does here – is it my fault? If it’s not something we’ve done after careful examination, then Iwe can boldly ASK.
When we know what he’s done for others, we know what he can do for us. Thank you Lord for teaching us to pray & believe to receive.

  17. God is the sole source of Israels victories over her enemies. Yet the nation has defeat. Defeat would have benn understood if Israel would have denied God but at the time Gods people had been faithful to him and kept his law. Gods people called out why.All they could do is to urge the lord to act soon.

  18. 5 Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.

6 For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

7 But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.

8 In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.

We can always overcome our enemies or enemy, old lucifer the devil himself, but through the greatest name of all we will have the victory.
Thank God for the name of JESUS, because of that name I will not have to trust in my bow or arrow. I can trust in the name (JESUS CHRIST).
We should boast about our God everyday!!!!!!!!

  19. 3 For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.

Any victory we have won is not by our own strength but only because you have already one the battle. Thank you Lord I am victorious

    Psalm 44

3 For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.

4 Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.

5 Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.

6 For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

7 But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.

8 In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.
This passage of scriptures reminds us that we that no matter what we become or do for God that we haven’t done it on our own. We should not trust in talents and abilities alone because is we can’t do this alone is only by the grace of God we are where we are. We need to stay humble and listen to our leaders and stay blessed in Gods favor.

  21. 7 You are the one who gives us victory over our enemies; you disgrace those who hate us.
I HAVE THE VICTORY!! Thank you God! 🙂

  22. 21 Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

There’s no hiding from God. Why do we think that we can hide things from him? Just as your parents knew when you was in the cookie jar is God knows our hearts. Because he created us.

  23. Who God is is not contengent upon our circumstance.

17 All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.

    18 Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;

We as Christians have to have a made up mind that says… No matter what comes my way, Jesus is still on the throne, he is still God.

19 Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.

These things are only tests that place us in different categories of authority. Once you have gone through something and recorded a victory, you have dominion over that thing and you can help someone else in that situation. This is anointing. You only get anointing through victories. You only get victories through opposition.

    James 1:
    2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
3 Knowing [this], that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

So welcome the opposition and rejoice in you trial. It means after you have claimed victory a greater anointing is coming. I stand strong and know that God is with me.

    Genesis 39:2
2 And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

  24. Oh David–
6 For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

He trusts GOD! I trust The Lord to save my family and me. No Goliah is gonna intimidate. I TRUST GOD!

  25. Redeem Us
Why God has apparently forsaken them is a mystery to them. Finally, they offer their earnest petition that God would intervene (v.23-26). Their interest is more than in saving their own skins; they plead that God would do it for the sake of His mercy.

  26. 6 For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

7 But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.

8 In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.

There is noting that we can do outside of God. You can take all the steps and follow directions still the Lord is in control and victory belongs to Him. He is our salvation. Why not tell of His greatness all day? How His mercy saved you. How He cleansed from all sin. God is good Wonderful, counselor, strong, mighty, all knowing, great, awesome… There is none like Him. Thank you Jesus for the blood, thank you for mercy and grace.

  27. In God we boast 5. Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us. Dan. 8 : 4 6. For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me. 7. But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us. Ps. 40 : 14 8. In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Se’-lah.
