Psalm 83

1 Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.

2 For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.

3 They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.

4 They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.

5 For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:

6 The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;

7 Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;

8 Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.

9 Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison:

10 Which perished at Endor: they became as dung for the earth.

11 Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna:

12 Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.

13 O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind.

14 As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire;

15 So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm.

16 Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O Lord.

17 Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish:

18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth.

  1. 1 Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.

2 For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.

I learned long time ago that it is better to listen to God’s silence, peace, and stillness; than the tumult from the enemy. For it does not matter how much noise he makes. GOD HAS AND ALWAYS WILL HAVE THE VICTORY!!!!! MY GOD IS GREATER!!!!

  2. 18. That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth.

    You are Jehovah,
    And I worship You.
    You are Jehovah,
    And I glorify You.
    There is no other,
    No other God like You
    Your Name be praised.

    I am I am,
Which was and is and is to come
You’re the lion, You’re the lamb
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done.
    Your train fills the temple
For You are high and lifted up
    Your Name, be praised

    You are Jehovah!

  3. It is sometimes hard to understand why God does not seem to come against those that oppose his children, but we must stay faithful and know that he is in control and everything works to the good of those that love him.

  4. Verse 18 AMP “That they may know that You, Whose name alone is the Lord, are the Most High over all the earth.” For there is only one name that is above all names…..JESUS! He is my Creator, my Healer, my Protector and it is awesome to know who you can call upon. In that same thought, it is heart wrenching to think of someone who has no clue, no insight, no knowledge of who he is and do not know who they can call upon. Introduce Jesus to someone today!

  5. 18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth.

God will keep his people! The world then hated the Israelite’s but God said he would keep his people that the world might know who the Lord is. Jesus is the most high God over all the earth, the great creator, and he knows his people.
WE should allow God to be our God and bless us with his great blessings.

  6. iLove to eat the Word

Reading this Psalm this morning was like reading the newspaper. The following article is about the ” Six Day War.”

In the spring of 1967, following close to a decade of relative calm, Israel found itself poised for war against four of its Arab neighbors.

According to all the military analysts and pundits, it was to be a lopsided match. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) consisted of 275,000 troops, compared to the 456,000 soldiers of the combined Iraqi, Syrian, Jordanian and Egyptian armies. The united Arab forces also had a decided edge with regards to weaponry and military equipment: they boasted more than double the amount of tanks, and close to four times the amount of combat aircraft. The three-week period preceding the Six-Day War was one of dread, shock and fright for the residents of the Holy Land.

With close to two and a half million Jews living in the tiny country, it had the highest concentration of Jews since pre-Holocaust Eastern Europe. So pessimistic was the outlook that the nation’s cemeteries and national parks were marked to become gravesites for the many who would surely perish in the course of the war.

However, despite all the prognostications, by the time the war ended, the territory under Israeli control had tripled in size. Jews returned to sites where their ancestors had lived for thousands of years, sites from which waves of terror were launched against them for so many years. The casualties and losses were painful, but minimal in comparison to all projections. The Jewish nation was miraculously victorious in the face of unbelievable odds.

History books speak of the “Hundred Years’ War,” the “Thirty Years’ War,” and many other long-fought battles. Here, in a matter of six short days, a nation managed to utterly rout not one, but four powerful enemies!

  7. v3 They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.

OUR GOD IS SOVEREIGN over ALL circumstances and people. When HE decides to act no leader, army, or nation, can stand against HIM. The LORD is in control We must be willing to submit to HIS sovereignty and as Brother Godwin said last night stay under authority .

Hebrews 13: 7,17. “Obey them that have the rule over you, submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must gives count ”

Our covering is our umbrella of protection.
As GOD’S Church ( POFW ) moves forward. As “ONE TOGETHER” as a mighty army for CHRIST, and not a mob. With respect for our spiritual leadership using spiritual warfare against the forces of evil.
    We shall be Victorous !

Another thought came to mind sharing last night’s notes …..
Our GOD IS MIGHTY and sometimes HE uses difficulties to bring about gain.
To grow us up as Brother Godwin said,
    grow up !!!
As we mature we should desire to fulfil GOD’S will in our lives, not just posses understanding of the scripture .

Let’s place our trust and confidence in the ALMIGHTY . We are the apple of HIS eye.
The eye represents one’s dearest possession .
” For he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye. Zechariah 2:8

i am Victorous through CHRIST JESUS!

  8. 18, “That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, are the most high over all the earth.”

Isaiah 12:2, “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.”
Isaiah 26:4, “Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.”

  9. That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth. (Psalms 83:18 KJV)
There’s a world that needs to saved, and we know the Name above all names, and it’s time to GO, it’s time to “worship, walk, and work.”
We can not say that we are of Christ with no action involved. How are others to believe what we do, and say who we are without being an example, a witness, or even a worker.( Titus 1:6)
It’s time to put our faith into action and work!

  10. “Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O Lord”. They had become tired of those that would defy the Lord (Jesus). The season is at hand that one should also seek God (Jesus); “That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth”. What a mighty God we serve, thank God for his word! God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all, in Jesus name, Amen

  11. Let them be confounded and dismayed forever; Yes, let them be put to shame and perish, That they may know that You, whose name alone is the LORD, Are the Most High over all the earth. (Psalms 83:17, 18 NKJV)

Humble your self or God will.

Please God I need you today!!! Help me! Jesus please.

  12. 14 As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire;

15 So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm.

16 Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O Lord

Oh you truly are a mighty God!!!! Who can mess with you Lord. Why would anyone set their hearts against you. We should tremble in fear for your greatness! I love you Jesus and I want to love you more and more. Draw me closer to you in Jesus name

  13. 18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth.

Lord you are the most high over all the earth! I worship you alone.

  14. 18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth.

Lord I’m your servant, use me to reach out to the lost souls. Your great name is above all names. The earth and everything in it belongs to you Lord. I trust in you, strengthen me in every way, shine on me.

  15. 15 So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm.

16 Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O Lord.

17 Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish:

18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth.

It isn’t very often through peace that men find God. It’s usually in times of brokenness of their lives that they begin to seek God. Humbling ourselves and seeking his help in times of trouble is the correct way to handle our trouble. Bowing up and shaking our fist at life and God is not and won’t help our situation. It’s when we come to our knees and lift up Jesus that he can work in our lives. When we lift him up and glorify him others will be drawn to him.

    John 12:32
32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

  16. Jehova

18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth.

The famous phrase Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh in Exodus 3:14 is rendered in the NWT, “I SHALL PROVE TO BE WHAT I SHALL PROVE TO BE.” The footnote to the 1984 NWT Reference Bible adds ” ‘EhyeW comes from the Heb. verb ‘hayah’, “become; prove to be.” Here ‘EhyeV is in the imperfect state, first person sing., meaning “I shall become”; or, “I shall prove to be.” The reference here is not to God’s self-existence but to what he has in mind to become toward others.”

Paul writes in Phil 2:9 that Jesus is “name which is above every name”. Peter, full of the Holy Ghost, says in Acts 4:12 “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” When Moses was on Mount Horeb he gained the revelation of the name Jehova and how it applied to God. Now, Jesus gives us direct access to Him with His Holy Spirit. It took thousands of years for the Lord’s people to gain this revelation. He reveals and proves Himself to us, He has given us a place of authority over evil, we must first be under His authority. David here is opperating under authority, praying that God would bring vengence.

  17. ADVERSARIAL UNITY

5 For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:

Even our adversary understands the power of unity. Since division is the main weapon of the adversary, and we are aware of the attack, we should be a UNITED Kingdom with GOD. Praising the name of JESUS and exalting the Power of HIS great name, allows GOD to arise and enemies be scattered.

Lets join hearts, minds and forces today to unify and reach the lost for JESUS.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  18. How many time have we, like David, cried this prayer unto the Lord?

1 Keep not silence, O God; hold not Your peace or be still, O God.

We want God to operate on our time frame and don’t allow Him to operate on His time frame and as He sees fit. We must continually remind ourselves, God sees the entire picture and is well aware of what is going on. Maybe some things are to try as gold is tried in the fire, maybe some things are to teach us, to sharpen us, and make us better christians, and maybe somethings we are going thru is the result of God using us to test others.

  19. 18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth.

Not only will God rescue & even avenge, but he will make a way for us through every trial & strorm. People watch us when we are going through the valley & when we are on the mountain top. Be careful to praise him no matter where we are. By this we let people know who God is.

  20. Claiming Territory

11 Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna:

12 Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.

We the church are not meant to just try to survive living in the defense, we are to be victorious in Christ living on the offense. The enemy would like to take our territory but it is not for us to just stand around trying to defend what we have, we are to go out there and claim what the enemy is trying to keep in his hands and see the expansion of the Kingdom of Heaven. I am reminded of a portion of the daily prayer:

“Luke 11:21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: 22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.

Lord Jesus, this day I bind the strongman of the Region of Fort Worth along with (Tarrant) and Surrounding Counties and by the Authority and Power of the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ and I loose the goods and the souls of his house to come into the Kingdom of God by the Authority and Name of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word.”

When God led the children of Israel to the promised land, it involved them getting up and fighting to take what was theirs. God gave it to them, but they had to do more than just walk in and set up camp. We must not be afraid to claim our territory as we stand up victorious in prayer, in outreach, in giving, in serving, in loving one another and the lost.

    Matthew 11:12 AMP
And from the days of John the Baptist until the present time, the kingdom of heaven has endured violent assault, and violent men seize it by force [as a precious prize—a share in the heavenly kingdom is sought with most ardent zeal and intense exertion.]

  21. JEHOVAH 18. That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JE_HO”_VAH, art the most high over all the earth. I AM VICTORIOUS THROUGH JESUS CHRIST !!!! Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Nissi, Jehovah raptha. The Great Jehovah !!!! Jehovah God !!!! JESUS YOU are Awesome !!!! Thank you for letting me awake, and take a breath today on this earth.

  22. 18 Then they will learn that you alone are called the Lord, that you alone are the Most High, supreme over all the earth. (NLT)

Let all learn of You and the great works that You are doing; let all learn and see Your great glory!

  23. They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. (Psalms 83:4 KJV)

Asaph tells God, “let us.” This means that Asaph knows what us happening is wrong and it tells us that he, Asaph, is willing to work to change it. God is not looking for someone to lay back and not do anything. We MUST WORK to do the things that need to be done for the kingdom.

  24. 18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth.

    His name is Jesus
    Risen Lamb, for sinners slain
    His name is Jesus
    All creation sings the praise
    Of Jesus name

  25. 1)
Keep not thou silence, O God; hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.
    2)
For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult; and they that hate thee have lifted up thier head.

Every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus is the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings.
When we are deep in distress or sins we want God to still keep in contact with us and let us know that He is still there and He will covict us to turn to Him instead.
    Even sinners repent…
My enemies rhat might be going against me will have to raise thier heads up to Jesus…no matter what man does/says to me The Lord Jesus will have the last say.

Thank you Jesus Christ You are the greatest!!!!!!!!!

  26. Psalm 83 A Plea for God to Destroy Israel’s Enemies

Psalm 83:13 O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind.

    God Will Rebuke the Nations
Isaiah 17:13 The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.

  27. 18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth.

We must never forget that we are in a war. There are real casualties and real victories. The battle belongs to the lord but it is up to us to go.

God desires a willing vessel, he will perform mighty acts, and conquer the adversaries, but we must march out onto the field.

  28. 16 Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O Lord.

They’ll will seek your name and they’ll fill shame. That means they’ll know who you are. And they’ll wonder why they said your not a God

  29. 18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth.

What more could I say but AMEN!

  30. 18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth.

    He alone is King!

It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: -Isaiah 40:22
That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity. -Isaiah 40:23
Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble. -Isaiah 40:24

My God is more than enough!

  31. Then they will learn that you alone are called the LORD, that you alone are the Most High, supreme over all the earth. (Psalms 83:18 NLT)

    Truly You are God alone!

You are God alone, from before time began
You were on Your throne, You are God alone.
And right now, in the good times and bad
You are on Your throne, You are God alone.

  32. 18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth.

    Whose name alone is Jehovah.

    Isaiah 43:

10 Ye [are] my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I [am] he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
11 I, [even] I, [am] the LORD; and beside me [there is] no saviour.

    There is no other

  33. 18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth.

He is high and lifted up. He alone is God and there is none like Him. God the provider, the protector, the deliverer, the comforter. He is God of all and He reigns.

  34. 14 As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire;
15 So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm.
16 Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O Lord.

WOW!!! David is praying here for those who are seeking to kill him. How many of us seek the face of God for those talking bad about us, or lying about us? And David is asking God to save them! Could it be that this is not only another reason David is known as a man after God’s own heart, but he also saw the value of a soul? If we would humble ourselves we too could see the value of a soul.

  35. YES!!!
5 For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:
A CONSPIRACY?!? The enemy has tried
TO KILL, TO STEAL AND TO DESTROY!!!
But MY GOD, MY GOD!!! JESUS!!! IS THE ALMIGHTY!!! HALELUJAH!!!
    Joshua 24:15NIV
But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”
