Matthew 10

1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;

4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:

6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

9 Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,

10 Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.

11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.

12 And when ye come into an house, salute it.

13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.

14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;

18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.

19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.

20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.

21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.

22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.

24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.

25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?

26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.

27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.

28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

36 And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.

37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.

42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

  1. Again we are filled with teachings of Jesus that are too many to mention in this space and I am not a writer. So I hope to glean from a small portion.

38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

We must take our cross and follow after Jesus! Jesus bare a cross for our sins, we must bare a cross for sinners. Are we willing to pray for others and carry a cross (burden) for other people and have compassion on them, even in their sins. Carrying a cross for the lost is more than just saying I want to see someone filled with the Holy Ghost. We have to learn to work with, Jesus mentioned earlier in this chapter about carrying the message to others and them rejecting the message.

16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

Not everyone will accept your message of hope and peace, but you can’t loose your vision.
We must be willing to lose our life and follow after the Holy Ghost and allow God to bless us everyday. Where is our burden?

  2. And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Always remember God is in control.

  3. What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops. -Matthew 10:27

What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light, and what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the housetops. -Matthew 10:27

Thank a God for preachers that will say what thus saith The Lord.

Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. -2 Timothy 4:2

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; -2 Timothy 4:3

Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. -Romans 16:17

Beware of those that would turn you away from doctrine.

Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. -1 Timothy 4:16

  4. Matthew 10:28 Jesus reminded them that it was more important to fear Him who had au thority over the soul as well as over the body and who can bring both to eternal condemnation in hell. Notice that God is the One who has authority to cast men into hell and not Satan, who will himself be ultimately cast into everlasting fire. Conversely, Jesus reminded His disciples of the Father’s love and care, even for sparrows.

  5. 38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

We need to all remind ourselves what our own crosses in our life are, and when we do, we need to bare them on our shoulder and take it down the path we are walking down.

For if we hang onto the things of this life, we lose our purpose and lose our cross. But if we let go of the world and let God take control of our lives when we put his purposes before our own, then we are truly taking up our cross.

  6. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10:28)

To be a follower of Christ is our calling, this is our only chance for salvation. The fear of God is crucial to our salvation.
Have we reached the point where we do not fear those who can destroy the body, but He who can destroy both body and soul? Do we practice living in faith in our daily walk? The just are those who are righteous shall live by faith and in doing so will inherit the Kingdom of God.

  7. 34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

  8. NLT 18 You will stand trial before governors and kings because you are my followers. But this will be your opportunity to tell the rulers and other unbelievers about me.

Whether we are at work, school or somewhere in public, there is someone there to ridicule you for your belief in God. We just have to be ready to give a testimony or a word to anyone. We cant stand down, but be ready to support God and why we do. God, let us always be prepared to give your word at all times.

  9. And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. (‭Matthew‬ ‭10‬:‭14‬ KJV)

It is difficult to understand how people(self) can deny the gospel(salvation) of Christ, it’s when one is so consumed with fulfilling there own lustful desires of the flesh, that in their mind they have no room for truth(righteousness). Salvation has come to, Christ the Messiah calling on you by name, but, you reject him once again. Lord have mercy on them(us)!!!

  10. 42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

Drink of His Living water and you will never thirst again. PRAISE THE LORD SHARE HIS LIVING WATER WITH ALL WHO THIRST FOR HIM.

  11. “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Flesh (man/woman), and the deceiver (satan) only have power and influence in this life, whereas Jesus (God) has control over ones very eternity. As such one must decide where one wants to spend eternity and invest accordingly, as the signs are plentiful, the season is rapidly approaching. What a mighty God we serve, thank God for his word! God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all, in Jesus name, Amen.

  12. iLove to eat the Word

1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

Notice what this scripture says again, “he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.”

Let’s think about this. When the disciples went to pray for folks, did they pray like some of us do today? Can you imagine, “God, if it be your will please heal Aunt Morgan.” Or, “Uhhm Jesus, I’m just wondering if it’s your will for Uncle Morgan to be free from demonic oppression.”

The disciples didn’t have time to go back to Jesus and give him a list of prayer requests on their journey, they were commanded to, “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.”

We must realize that we have been given the Power and the Authority that Jesus gave the disciples. If we will come under Authority, then we will be able to speak the Word of faith with boldness knowing the will of God.

  13. Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows. (‭Matthew‬ ‭10‬:‭29-31‬ KJV)

What mankind values as pennies God has sees a greater value. We are His creation and He is cares for us. He Loves us!! No eye has seen or ear heard nor has enter into the thought of mankind what God has prepared for those who love (agape) Him.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. (‭Isaiah‬ ‭55‬:‭8-9‬ KJV)

  14. ……..Don’t hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve to be fed. (‭Matthew‬ ‭10‬:‭10‬ NLT)

When times are hard but you work hard for your family can eat,you deserve the food.

  15. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven. (‭Matthew‬ ‭10‬:‭33‬ NKJV)

When I offer you help. I offered you a way to salvation. I know a God that can do all things heal the sick walk on water. And defeated death.
I said this is the only way.
You said “nah I’m good I don’t like church”. You deny Christ not me. So I pray for you more and more everyday that your eyes will open.
My friendship will be fake if I never showed you the way to salvation.

  16. 34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth ,
I come not to send peace, but a sword.

In Jesus name let’s go into battle.

  17. 5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

Our connection with our friends and family are very important, but our commission is to reach the lost. Jesus sent the Gentiles to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Who are we reaching for today? He has bestowed upon us power to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils and lead people to the cross. We must be about our Father’s business. The world is waiting to see Jesus, who will we be Jesus to today?

  18. HELP WANTED

7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

    JESUS makes the declaration in Matthew’s writing in chapter 9:37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

JESUS presents the need here for laborers to evangelize the multitudes in the fields of havest. Here in chapter 10 JESUS gives instruction and authority to accomplish the task.

    GO – REACH
    PREACH – INSTRUCT
    SAY – CONFESS FAITH
HEAL, CLEANSE, RAISE, CAST – DEMONSTRATE

We are called to SHARE all that we have seen, heard and been taught.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  19. 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Us as Christians are the light of God to this world, we must go out and reach the lost souls. We can not sit here and watch souls being lost when we know a God who can save them. Thank you God for using us to reach the lost!

  20. 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

What God has given us we should freely give to others. God gave us mercy, we should give out mercy. God forgave us from a debt we could not pay, we should forgive others for their trespasses. God have us revelation, we should give out the gospel. We cannot be selfish with the things of God. God did not die just for me or any other one person. He died for all humanity, anyone who would receive him. We should be a reflection of Gods goodness, everything he freely gives to us we should reflect that back into the world.

  21. 28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Hallelujah ONLY God can destroy the soul in hell. Men or satan can’t do anything to to the soul only the body! God is in control and even if men would want to kill our bodies they still can’t destroy the soul or determine where our soul would go. THANK YOU JESUS IN YOU I TRUST!!!!

22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

  22. What do you put value in?

37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

We must be careful not to put people over God.

  23. 1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

Are we not disciples?? Do we not have this power? I would argure that we do, we’ve been called to go and make disciples and that’s what were doing glory to God. So that means et have power agains unclean spirits, we are able to heal sickness and disease praise the Lord. It is his power in us that makes these things possible and if we ate not putting the power of god in us by word and prayer than we are not able to give this out. Peter said such as I have I give thee, what are we giving out if its not Jesus??

  24. MSG version of verses 5-8:
Jesus sent his twelve harvest hands out with this charge:
“Don’t begin by traveling to some far-off place to convert unbelievers. And don’t try to be dramatic by tackling some public enemy. Go to the lost, confused people right here in the neighborhood. Tell them that the kingdom is here. Bring health to the sick. Raise the dead. Touch the untouchables. Kick out the demons. You have been treated generously, so live generously.”

God isn’t telling us to go to some far-off city or state to tell others about Him, but He wants us to be a witness for Him right here in our own neighborhoods and city, Fort Worth. There are many confused, hurting, sick, and dying people right here that need JESUS. He has given us Power and Authority to help the hurting, heal the sick, bring life to the dying, and deliverance to those in need of it.

Let’s GO be labourers in the field.

  25. You can run but you can’t hide

    Matthew 10:26
26 Do not begin to fear them, for there is not even one thing that has been covered up which shall not be uncovered, and secret which shall not be made known.

Closet servanthood speaks volumes in the kingdom of God. We must be willing to serve in the shadows and not yearn for the lime light.

All things will be brought to light. The word says we shall be known for the fruit we bear. If we are smiling on the outside but lying on the inside this too will be known.

The answer is to always live with integrity!

  26. vs-20
What prepares a beliver to meet a crisis successfully is not speech writting but commitment. In the 1st century persons called to confront a governing council invariable hired a professional orator to speak for them. The Christian is to rely on the Holy Spirit and face persecutors with confidence.

  27. 12 And when ye come into an house, salute it.

13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.

14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

15 Verily I say , It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

    17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;

GOD gives specific direction to his disciples how they should approach the sinners. How they shouldn’t worry about who they have to confront or what they will say to them. GOD was pretty clear on if the sinners don’t receive their words to wipe the dust off there feet, in other words they obeyed God and delivered his message it’s in his Gods hands now. When God wants us to do a specific thing and we constantly battle it in our minds for what ever reason we are only making it more difficult for ourselves. We have to remember that it’s not about us or our plans but it about Gods plan!

  28. 19 When you are arrested, don’t worry about how to respond or what to say. God will give you the right words at the right time.
20 For it is not you who will be speaking—it will be the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
Lord I put my life in your hands! Use me Lord so your spirit may flow through me and I will speak about your Great Name!!! 🙂

  29. 16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues

These passages speak to me as to the importance of prayer. Truly we are in the midst of wolves! Through reading the word and prayer he can guide us & lead us. Without his provision & protection we are unprotected & powerless against the enemy. The closer we draw to him, the closer he draws to us. I’m thankful for the power of prayer…even the dominion he gives his people over the enemy.

  30. THE 12 APOSTLES NAMES !!!! 1. AND when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. Mark 3 : 13 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Si’- mon, who is called Pe’-ter, and An’-drew his brother; James the son of Zeb’-e-dee, and John his brother; John 1 : 42 3. Phil’-ip, and Bar-thol’-o-mew; Thom’-as, and Mat’-thewthe publican; James the son of Al-phae’-us, and Leb-bae’-us, whose surname was Thad-dae’-us; 4. Si’-mon the Ca’-na-an-ite, and Ju’-das Is-car’-I-ot, who also betrayed him. I AM VICTORIOUS THROUGH CHRIST JESUS !!!! PRAISE YE THE LORD !!!! THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER DAY ON THIS EARTH TO PRAISE YOU !!!! AND I PRAY WEEKEND !!!!

  31. We are named

1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

    2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

    3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;

4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

Jesus is still making deciples today. These are the names of the original but we can have the same experience. The difference is Jesus worked with them side by side and he works within us. He can do so much more in a vessel than that of one he is just around. We have a power that is greater than anything ever experienced, we just have to realize who is in us.

  32. Hide and seek

6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

We are to go looking for specific people. These people are those who might look a little different from you and me, but they are God’s people. We have to guide them to him. Lead them in conversation and in our actions. These people are the reason we are here. We must find his people and lead them to him!

  33. Precious

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

    Matthew 10:29 NLT
What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it.

    Psalm 116:15
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.

Not a sparrow will fall without the Lord’s knowledge, and neither will a single saint. Life brings wounds, trials, setbacks, disappointments, storms, all manner of obstacles and pains that can seem overwhelming. But it is not for a saint of God to be consumed; Jesus designed for us to be consumed in Him and not our circumstance. Difficulties can make us feel alone but the pain we face is to drive us closer to Jesus.

  34. Students are to be like their teacher, and slaves are to be like their master. And since I, the master of the household, have been called the prince of demons, the members of my household will be called by even worse names! (‭Matthew‬ ‭10‬:‭25‬ NLT)

Who ever thought you’d be mocked for doing the right thing? Evil will consistently try to triumph over good even though the devil knows he loses in the end. Stand your ground and lean on God, He will fight for His loved ones. Words do hurt for a lifetime but I wouldn’t gamble my eternity on a bad name/remark.

  35. Lose it.
    Matthew 10:39
He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it.

In either case one must lose their life. It can be for worldly pleasures and self desire or for spiritual things and a desire from God.

  36. 13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.

There is a peace, fruit of God’s Spirit that resides un is that we carry. Just as that peace we are transporters of the light and are the salt of the world.

  37. 1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

    That good what they did.

  38. 38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

So many powerful verses, this one intrigued me the most. So many different ways the Word of God can speak to us.
Why would Christ mention the cross, especially it being a gentile form of punishment, and not a Jewish one. This form of punishment was only applied to the worst of criminals. Remember Barabas?
The shame it would bring those that were condemned to a death by cross was one of the most humiliating, and Christ says take it up everyday and follow me.
This indicates that following Christ will not be an easy thing to do, it might be back breaking, burdensome at times, and hard but Phil 4:13

  39. Matthew 10:39
He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.
As God tells us if we want to seek Him we must follow Him and surrender to Him everything; our will, our bodies, and our lives. Our carnal minds are driven by pride and an underlying belief and desire that we must get things for ourselves. Romans 12:1 tells us that we must subsequently live our lives as a living sacrifice, following Gods example.

I find that the hardest part for me is to surrender everything ( addictions, past hurts etc.)and get past pride. The bible makes it sound so easy but it’s so hard for me. How can I make this easier?

  40. 28. And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Even with all of the events going on in the world today, we are not to be afraid; God saw all of this coming and is not surprised or worried about any of it, nor should we be. He is in control and we are His children, so we have nothing to fear.

    2 Timothy 1:7 KJV
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
