Matthew 11

1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.

2 Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,

3 And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:

5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

7 And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

8 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.

9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.

10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.

15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

16 But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,

17 And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.

18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.

19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

20 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:

21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

22 But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.

23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

24 But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.

27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

  1. In this scripture there was so much meat here. But what stood out to me was even the greatest prophet had doubt about Christ Jesus. But, what did Jesus do? Show him or tell him again! This very same thing is the essence to hearing or preaching the Word of God. To strengthen us and keep us safe within the faith. Not to burden you with the word, but to complete you. Jesus wants you to have or ware the right yoke upon that’s not burdensome. But, leads the correct way and can have rest, not like this world trying get everything you can. This is to benefit you or bless your relationship with “DAD” our Heavenly Father. Take the yoke of Jesus and see. Which God hears our prayers…………………………He loves you!

    “Be Yoked”…………………..”No Chains”……..

  2. 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

When you give yourself to the Lord are troubles don’t go away but we have help with them and we don’t need to worry about them , because as long as our faith is in him it he will help take care of them. Take up his yoke. Think and teach about the things of heaven and how to be saved and the Lord will take care of the earthly things .

  3. 28. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

This chaotic world has no rest to offer; it can only add more worries, stress and burdens. The only rest there is to find is in Him. There is peace in knowing that we can give Him our problems and He will take care of them as only He can.

  4. John was the forerunner of Jesus, preparing people for His coming. Likewise, in these last days, we are the modern day John the Baptist. The Church should be preparing people for the soon coming of Christ.

Jesus answered John’s question was He the one or shall they look for another, by telling those that inquired to go tell John the things that they had seen and heard, He had healed the sick, raised the dead……

We should be telling others of what He is doing in our midst. His glory should be reflected in everything we say and do and it should all point to HIM!!

  5. vs-28
Rest means to calm comfort and refresh. It reflects the O.T. concept of rest as release from the pressures and tensions of life and of peace that follows.
    vs-29
Ayoke was a wooden frame that fit over the shoulders of draft animals harnessing them to each other and to the plow they pulled together. Being yoked to Christ means to rely on him to give him burdens and putting Christ first in everthing.

  6. Burden and Balances

Matthew 11:28-30 (Amplified Bible – AMP)
28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I willease and relieve andrefreshyour souls.]
29 Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment andrecreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.
30 For My yoke is wholesome (useful, good—not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light and easy to be borne.

Another word for yoke is balances.

God weighs the hearts of men. He sets us in the balances. Works do not produce salvation, but we are judged by our works.

The yoke and the balances of the world are too high, too tough, and too extreme. God’s are just what we need to keep us motivated toward the promised land!

I’d rather be judged by his scales, and work with his yoke than the world’s any day!

  7. 1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.

Knowing that a prophet is not accepted in hi own town, Jesus took the disciples out of their equation, so that their cities would have a chance. Until this morning I hadn’t seen this.

What if, we concentrated on winning someone else’s family, an allowed Jesus to send someone else to win ours???

  8. WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR

3 And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

One of the greatest adversaries of FAITH is doubt. All too often backsliding begins with questioning GOD’s authority. There is a unique difference in asking GOD a question and questioning GOD’s authority. We witness John, who has given his life to the gospel and introduction of JESUS the Messiah. Even after witnessing the supernatural experience at Jordan when JESUS was baptized, and the prophetic words he spoke in regards to the Messiah; John facing execution was asking a question to confirm to his followers, that JESUS was Messiah and that they should now follow JESUS.

The response that JESUS sent back to John was simple and confirming; asking John WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR? If you are looking for:

4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

If you are looking for miracles signs and wonders, good news of salvation, then you found what you are looking for.

JESUS then turns the same question on the multitude gathered:

8 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.
9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

The question to you and I today is WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

    A WORD from GOD.
    A SIGN of AUTHORITY.
    A MIRACULOUS act.
    Sins FORGIVEN.
    SALVATION granted.

Or just a reed shaken in the wind, just to see if the wind of GOD will blow.

    I came to see MORE!

John 12:21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.

    Today: We would see JESUS!

Oh, I want to SEE HIM, high and lifted up in HIS temple.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  9. 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Lord I pray that when people come into your house they find peace, rest, and joy. That they feel your presence and find you.

  10. 15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

We should hear the Word of the Lord! Our ears should be for listening to God and what he has to tell us.
The cities where he did most of his mighty works, did not repent at his teaching. Jesus said: had I did all these works in Sodom they would have repented.
Many times we do not take the move of God serious, and do realize how much we should be thankful that God would bless us like he does.
I want to grasp the move of God in our church and be a part of the blessings of the kingdom of God.
Help me Lord (HEAR YOUR WORD)!

  11. 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Work for the kingdom of God

  12. 15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Acts 28:26-28 Saying, Go unto this people and say, Hearing ye shall not hear and shall not understand and seeing ye shall not see and not perceive. For the heart of this people is waxed gross and their ears are dull of hearing and their eyes have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and should be converted and I should heal them. Be it known therefore unto you that salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles and that they will hear it.

  13. At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. -Matthew 11:25

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: -2 Corinthians 4:3
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. -2 Corinthians 4:4

It is the preached word of God the brings revelation and illumination. Built it comes to those who believe the word. When our faith is mixed with the word of God something supernatural happens.

For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. -1 Corinthians 1:21

  14. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.

  15. Weariness of the burden of sin

    Matthew 11:28
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.

Christ gives us rest from the weight of sin through his grace. He removes our iniquity with his blood.

  16. 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

    Be like Christ.
There are many people out there that are hurt, beat up from life, wondering if there is something, some one who cares, any difference from the world. We see here an invitation to come to God. To many, we who know the truth and have the gospel and Holy Ghost residing in us, we represent Jesus. We might be the only Jesus people get be exposed to. We should take the Christ-like attitude and become approachable that we may point people to the light, the Light of Jesus. Meek and lowly in heart were the words that stood out. Everyday we should strive to be more like God. Everyday we can learn a different thing about how He is. “Becoming” is a process.. My prayer is that I can be more like Him, that I can be old yet sensitive, just to be more like God.

1 John 2:6 – He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

Galatians 2:20 – I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

  17. iLove to eat the Word

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

I’ve heard it said that if you try to live easy for the Lord then its going to be hard and if you live hard for the Lord then its easy. The folks that find all the rules and guidelines hard to live by, are the ones who are trying to cruise down easy street.

  18. “Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.” There have been mighty works, miracles done by God (Jesus); blind eyes opened, healings, and much more that many have received or been witness too. One (I) should continually, thank God (Jesus), and ask for forgiveness if they are ever taken for granted. What a mighty God we serve, thank God for his word! God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all, in Jesus name, Amen.

  19. ReCreation

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

    Matthew 11:29 AMP
Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly in heart), and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.

What stood out to me in the Amplified version was the inclusion of “recreation” under the definition of “rest” in v29. We think of that word meaning enjoyable activities, typical of a physical nature like a sport, that are done for pleasure not work. It comes from the Latin “recreare” meaning “create again, renew” and evolved into the French “recreation” meaning “mental or spiritual consolation.” Another way that word “consolation” is used in scripture is to say “comfort,” as in “The Comforter.” There is a connection drawn between comfort, “rest,” and renewal.

    Romans 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

We must take time to be renewed by the Lord if we are to take His yoke upon us. He offers ReCreation in His rest, a renewing and transforming process that allows us to be progressively more conformed to His image.

  20. Prepare the way of The Lord

10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

This is what we are doing every Saturday on outreach. The Pastor sends his messengers which are you and I to proclaim to this city that they need not look any further. What they are looking for is found in the house of The Lord. We know the one who answers all life’s questions. He is a healer and a way maker. He is our savior and our reward. We know the one that this world is longing for all we need to do is prepare the way of The Lord so that they can see him too.

  21. 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Oh how sweet are the promised of God!

  22. 1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.

God gave the commandment to his disciples and they went. After he commanded them Jesus himself went to their cities. Their homes. Their families. So many times we get caught up in our personal things at home that we use it as a crutch to not go forth with the commandment of God, when God is saying go and if we do then He will move in our situations.

  23. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.

30 For My yoke is wholesome (useful, [f]good—not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light and easy to be borne. (AMP)

ONLY IN YOU I FIND REST JESUS!!!! Not money, pleasures, cars, houses, or any temporary possession on this Earth can give us that rest that you can. You heal the wounds and give us strength that nobody else can give. THANK YOU JESUS FOR YOUR WHOLENESS!!! 🙂

  24. Matthew 11:30
or rather Gracious, sweet, benign, delightful; and my burdens Contrary to those of men, is ease liberty, and honour

  25. 16 But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows, 17 And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.

This generation is much like the one mentioned in the scripture. Things are happening all around that should cause a specific reaction, and it’s not happening. Why can’t we see the events in the world are here to produce a closer relationship and a drawing in to God?

  26. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Our burdens should be placed on a GOD who cares for us. That God is Jesus he states in these verses that he is meek and lowly and his burden is light. GOD will not tempt us above that which we are able. But will with the temptation make a way for its to escape it. Let’s cast our cares upon him because God cares for us

  27. 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

What an awesome God we serve, he loves us so much that he is asking us to let our guards down, if your tired of carrying heavy burdens that you can come to him, he’ll teach you and show you how you can find rest. Reach out and let him lead you.

  28. 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Many times have I come in my walk to The Lord with over whelming burdens and The Lord has put peace in my heart. We can have the confidence in God to come no matter the situation, or problem or even when we feel we have failed God he will not reject us.

  29. Matthew 11
Jesus rejoiced in a thankful spirit even though from a human point of view it didn’t seem logical or right.
    Lord,
Give me a thankful spirit and let me rejoice and be thankful in the times that it doesn’t make sense.

  30. REST!! 28. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Jer. 6 : 16 30. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. 1 John 5 : 3 I AM VICTORIOUS THROUGH CHRIST JESUS !!!!
