Luke 1

1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,

2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;

3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,

4 That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.

5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.

6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

7 And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years.

8 And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his course,

9 According to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.

10 And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense.

11 And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.

12 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.

13 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

14 And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.

15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.

16 And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.

17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

18 And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.

19 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.

20 And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.

21 And the people waited for Zacharias, and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple.

22 And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: for he beckoned unto them, and remained speechless.

23 And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house.

24 And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,

25 Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.

26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.

30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.

32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.

37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.

38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

39 And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda;

40 And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.

41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:

42 And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.

43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.

45 And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.

46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,

47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.

50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.

51 He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.

53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.

54 He hath helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy;

55 As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.

56 And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.

57 Now Elisabeth’s full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.

58 And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.

59 And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.

60 And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.

61 And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.

62 And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.

63 And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.

64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God.

65 And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea.

66 And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.

67 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,

68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,

69 And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;

70 As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:

71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;

72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;

73 The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,

74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,

75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;

77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,

78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,

79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

80 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.

  1. And the child kept growing and becoming strong in spirit, and he was in the wilderness until the day he was revealed to Israel. -Luke 1:80

Preparation cannot be bypassed if we are going to fulfill the plan of God in our lives. There has got to a wilderness experience.

You can find God’s glory there. You

And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud. -Exodus 16:10

God will speak to in the wilderness.

And the LORD spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tabernacle of the congregation, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying, -Numbers 1:1

When we come out we come with power.

And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. -Luke 4:14

And the LORD spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying, -Numbers 3:14

Your will(fleshly desires) will die in the wilderness.

But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness. -Numbers 14:32

  2. 49. For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.

    50. And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.

Amen! The Mighty One has truly done great things for me and His name is Holy! I am so thankful for His mercy and His grace, and it’s not just for a few select ones, it’s for all that fear Him!

    Romans 3:22-24 KJV
    22. Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
    23. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
    24. Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

  3. So many things came to my mind in reading this chapter. The first was your never to old to be used by God. The angel told Zachariah “….You’re going to leap like a gazelle for joy, and not only you—many will delight in his birth.” I can imagine Zachariah’s doubt as he’s thinking, I can barely walk into the Temple, much less leap like a gazelle. But, the angel said “Every word I’ve spoken to you will come true on time—God’s time.” Sometimes we doubt too what God has spoken into our lives just because we think its taking too long or it hasn’t happened yet; but, its in God’s time, not ours!

The next thing was the end of verse 28, where the angel Gabriel said to Mary “….You’re beautiful with God’s beauty, Beautiful inside and out!” Girls today are told so many things about their appearance and how they should look. How awesome to know that you are beautiful with God’s beauty, inside and out!! Girls do not ever believe anything less of yourselves. Just as Mary believed as we see in the end of verse 38 when the angel told her “….Nothing, you see, is impossible with God.” And Mary said, Yes, I see it all now: I’m the Lord’s maid, ready to serve. Let it be with me just as you say.” Many still do not SEE IT ALL yet. Lord open our eyes to see IT and be ready to serve.

The end of the chapter in verses 65-66 MSG it says “A deep, reverential fear settled over the neighborhood, and in all that Judean hill country people talked about nothing else. Everyone who heard about it took it to heart, wondering, “What will become of this child? Clearly, God has his hand in this.”” These verses about John’s birth spoke to me about our (God’s) church. I imagine everyone who hears about whats going on at POFW will begin to talk about it and say “Clearly, God has his hand in this”! But it is a process…..we cannot get discouraged or doubt the vision, for as the end of verse 79 when Zachariah prophesied about this miracle child that was to make the way for the Master saying “….Then showing us the way, one foot at a time, down the path of peace.” Baby steps….baby steps…as we (POFW) walk into our promise..one foot at a time!

  4. iLove to eat the Word

7 And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years.

13 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

Think about this for a moment. This couple had prayed and prayed for children until now they are well stricken with age. I can imagine them praying in their 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s for children. Now when they are about to die, an angel shows up and says, “Your prayers are heard”… Yeah, those prayers you forgot about. Those prophecies from 60 years ago are now going to be answered. Truly amazing. Never give up!

  5. But now, since you didn’t believe what I said, you will be silent and unable to speak until the child is born. For my words will certainly be fulfilled at the proper time.” (‭Luke‬ ‭1‬:‭20‬ NLT)

Sometimes the ones that don’t believe talk to much with their unbelief. So sometimes it’s good just to shut them up.
God will shut you up so you can learn how to really believe in him and have faith in the God all mighty.

For the word of God will never fail. ” (‭Luke‬ ‭1‬:‭37‬ NLT)
It will never fail! It brings light to this world and destroys the wicked it power is to over whelming. It can never stop!!!

    Thank you Jesus.

  6. THE DUMB DECISION OF DOUBT

I have said some DUMB things in my life, but thanks be to GOD, so far I have not said anything that mede me DUMB and unable to speak.

Zacharias was a good man, a faithful christian man, he was a spiritual leader in his day, he was a church leader, he was involved in worship, he was a priest, but he doubted and GOD didn’t wink at his doubt; he silenced him.

This lesson was costly for a man of FAITH, he had FAITH to serve, but not FAITH to believe for a miracle and the lack of FAITH left him speechless. As we SERVE in the LORDS house, let us not be guilty of this DUMBING lack of FAITH. May GOD give us FAITH to believe that GOD Is well able to do that which he has spoken.

  7. 71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;

79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Thy will be done Lord! Lead and guide us in the path of righteousness.

  8. 18 And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.

We must not doubt God! God knows what he’s doing, and he has a plan for each and everyone one of us. So we must not let the spirit of doubt creep up in our mind, but the spirit of faith to overcome us. Lord help me to always have faith in you and never doubt the plans you have for my life!!

  9. 18 And Zacha
rias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.

23 And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house.

When we fail to believe what God has promised, there is a disappointment for us.

  10. 46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.

Sometimes we take Salvation for granted. We do things and say things that are not from God. Some will fall out due to tragedies, or battles lost. We as saints of the most High God need to realize that if a battle is lost we shall FEAR NOT, for the war is not yet finished and our LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST WINS THE WAR. We shall be as open as Mary and just PRAISE HIM IN THE STORM, REJOICE IN HIS PRESENCE, AND RECOGNIZE THAT THE WORK HE HAS DONE ON US IS GREAT, & HOLY IS HIS NAME.
    In Jesus Name AMEN.

  11. This chapter shows that God can use anyone, any age , it dosent matter. Its all about if you let him use you and if you do it with the right attitude.

  12. Nothing is Impossible

    Luke 1:37 (KJV Strong’s)
” 37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.”

    Genesis 18:14 (KJV Strong’s)
” 14 Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.”

    Matthew 19:26 (KJV Strong’s)
” 26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”

    Jeremiah 32:17 (KJV Strong’s)
” 17 Ah Lord God! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:”

    Mark 10:27 (KJV Strong’s)
” 27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.”

With God not one thing will be called impossible.

(Olive Tree Enhanced Strong’s Dictionary) impossible – not to have strength, power, or ability, to be weakcan not be done, to be impossible

Nothing is too hard for God! Trust in him and see what he will do!

  13. vss. 45-47 And blessed is she that believed : for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.

And Mary said, ” My soul doth magnify the Lord.,

And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour .

Rejoice and magnify The LORD. We can have complete confidence in God’s faithfulness .

v37 For with GOD NOTHING shall be impossible .

    iRejoice
    i Magnify The Lord !!!

  14. “Given the large portion of the New Testament written by him, it’s extremely significant that Luke has been established to be a scrupulously accurate historian, even in the smallest details. One prominent archaeologist carefully examined Luke’s references to thirty-two countries, fifty-four cities, and nine islands, finding not a single mistake.” John McRay

  15. 37, “For with God nothing shall be impossible.”

Our God is OMNIPOTENT! He has unlimited power and authority; He is all-powerful.

Psalms 62:11 says, “God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that POWER belongeth unto God.”

  16. 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

The first in filling of the Holy Ghost.

When we are filled with his spirit we must become pregent with the vision. The vision to reach out to those around us. When we are filled we overflow with the spirit of God.

  17. 37 For with God nothing shall be impossible

Anything you can imagine…with God is possible! Wow. I can just imagine as Mary is receiving the word from the angel. She stopped all reasoning. It amazes me because women try and anaylize things so much. She simply believed the word. What would happen if we took that simple approach and become as children, having great faith. Remember with God, nothing is impossible

  18. 64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God.
65 And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea.
66 And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.
80 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.

What an amazing event to have been a part of in that day. No, they didn’t exactly know how it would all come about but with the word of the Lord in prophecy & the word of the Lord from the angel, they knew Messiah was about to come on the scene. The anticipation surely drove them to search the scriptures all the more. Today, will all the signs pointing to the endtime, we surely must be searching the scriptures too. In Jesus name!

  19. The brink of high praise

46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,

    Psalms 100:4
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, [and] into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, [and] bless his name.
5 For the LORD [is] good; his mercy [is] everlasting; and his truth [endureth] to all generations.

It is a commandment to praise The Lord. We were in fact made to praise him.

But there comes a point in our walk with him that the praise becomes a little deeper a little stronger. When you praise until it hurts. When it bows you over and puts you on your knees. My soul doth magnify The Lord. I want to reach this level of praise everyday.

God has been so good to me. He has blessed me more than I ever could deserve.
I am eternally indebted to him.

My soul doth magnify The Lord.

  20. Light & Peace

79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

The deception of the enemy is to make us think when we go through a storm that we must be stuck with darkness and turmoil. But Jesus is our light and peace. With Him, there’s always hope and a place beyond the storm with Jesus.

    Exodus 33:21
And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:

    Matthew 7:24-25
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

  21. 17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

John the Baptist – the forerunner of Jesus Christ, announcing a Messiah was coming, preparing the way.

The Blood Bought Church – the forerunner of the second coming of Jesus Christ. Are we heralding the good news? Are we telling everyone we meet? We must tell people so they can be prepared for His soon coming.

  22. 10 And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense.

God don’t necessarily come when you wanted but he’ll be there right on time. God knows what he is doing he’s got a plan. Elizabeth was praying that she can conceive for a while but it wasn’t the right time. When Elizabeth was with child she conceived a holy baby that made every difference in the world.

  23. “And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.” Zacharias paid for his disobedience, for a season. One would be very wise to believe God, and his called servant (man of God) elsewise may also have to pay for disobedience. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  24. Once again, another time of silence but only because of unbelief. Also, the day that salvation was formed in the womb of Mary. Our Savior and the immaculate conception of our Lord by the power of the Holy Ghost……………………………,

John was filled by the Holy Ghost….I pray for a double portion, in Jesus name, Amen.

  25. And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season. (‭Luke‬ ‭1‬:‭20‬ KJV)

At thy word Oh Lord. Increase our faith that the limitations of our unbelief would be broken.

  26. 30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

    Thank you Jesus.

  27. 46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,

47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

My soul doth magnify the Lord today! And every day! For every day and every moment is a good day to praise the Lord! For he delivers us out of the mouth of the devouring lion!

  28. God sent the angular Gabriel to Nazareth a town in Galilee to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph a descendant of David the virgins name Mary the angel went to her and said Greetings you who are highly favored The Lord is with you. Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her Do not be afraid Mary you have found favor with GOd. You will conceive and give birth to a son and you are to call him Jesus.he will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.

  29. Fortells Jesus Birth 28. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. 29. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. 30. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Ma’-ry: for thou hast found favour with God. 31. And, behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JE’-SUS. 32. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father Da’-vid: 33. And he shall reign over the house of Ja’-cob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. 34. Then said Ma’-ry unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35. And the angel answered and said unto her, The Ho’-ly Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. Matt. 1 : 20; John 1 : 34 Thank you Mary for barren Jesus !!!! Thank you for the Holy Ghost !!!!!!! I AM VICTORIOUS !!!!!!

  30. Luke 1:27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

The miracle of the Virgin Birth involved the yieldedness of Mary. This attitude is reflected in her last recorded words, which are a good standard for Christians today, “Whatsoever he [Jesus] saith unto you, do it”(John 2:5).
