Luke 21

1 And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.

2 And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.

3 And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:

4 For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.

5 And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said,

6 As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

7 And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass?

8 And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.

9 But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.

10 Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:

11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

12 But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name’s sake.

13 And it shall turn to you for a testimony.

14 Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer:

15 For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

16 And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death.

17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake.

18 But there shall not an hair of your head perish.

19 In your patience possess ye your souls.

20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.

21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.

22 For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.

23 But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.

24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

29 And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;

30 When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.

31 So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.

32 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.

33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

37 And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives.

38 And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him.

  1. 33. Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

When I was a child, my Mom would say, “The truth will stand when the world is on fire”…I didn’t realize at the time that she was giving me a Bible lesson, I thought she was only trying to get the truth out of me before she set my ‘world’ on fire for something I did wrong. Gotta love those Pentecostal mothers!

  2. 36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

It is evident that we are living in the last days. It is not a time to be slack in our prayer life if we are to stand for Christ in this time.

  3. 1 And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.

Give ALL unto the LORD for He is GOOD AND HIS MERCY ENDURETH FOR EVER. Honor the Lord with your substance. No matter how big or small give your best unto the Lord for HE IS GOOD AND HIS MERCY ENDURETH FOR EVER. Give your love, talent, time, and be prepare to carry all the way to Him for He will bless it and multiply it. THANK YOU JESUS FOR YOUR KINDNESS AND I HOPE YOU CAN MULTIPLY IT AND USE IT FOR YOUR KINGDOM IN JESUS NAME AMEN.

  4. 19 In your patience possess ye your souls.

This is by far a much greater statement than can enter into our thoughts! We must realize that patience is an attribute of the spirit of God. Waiting on God for the correct answer is quite a task. We are (now people), but God wants to do things in his time frame not ours. Yes we want to possess our souls and understand I am the only person that can cause me to be lost or saved. If I am lost it will not be anybodies fault but mine. I need to learn to wait when God wants me to wait and run when God wants me to run.
The life of Abraham should teach us the value of waiting on God. Look what a mess we have today because Abraham and Sarah decided not to have patience and wait for God to do things in his time frame.
Help us everyday and let us pray that God’s will, will be done in our lives in his time frame.
Most of us pray, God grant me patience, but hurry.

  5. Holiness and Prayer

35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

We have been placed here in this time by the creator of the heavens and the earth,
not by accident. God had a plan for this day and time just like when these things were written. Our world is not as different as everyone makes it out to be. We just have the internet, television, and radio at our fingertips to advertise it.

    Jesus said:

    John
23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

We can be in this world and use it’s assets for the kingdom but not be of it.
We are called to be separate but not to live in a bubble.

    Matthew 5:
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

We have to turn the light on the darkness around us. The light is not seen in the light but in the middle of darkness. This is why Jesus seemed to always hang out with the wrong crowd. He came to save the lost that were in the dark.

Separation and prayer. There is no way to know him without praying.

We are in fire at POFW and it is great. We are seeing baptisms and Holy Ghost outpouring, miracles, signs and wonders, and I love it. But it cannot take the place or supersede prayer. Because without knowing Him it is all in vain.

    Matthew 7:
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

We need signs as believers but not as much as we need to commune with Him.

    Holiness and Prayer

  6. Trusting in The Lord

In your patience possess ye your souls. (‭Luke‬ ‭21‬:‭19‬ KJV)
No matter your situation, wait, trust, and stand flat footed on His word!! Many times we feel that our prayers go unanswered, GOD isn’t hearing me, He doesn’t love or care for me. That is exactly what satan wants you to believe. We can become overwhelmed by worrying and then it takes our focus off from trusting in the word of The Lord. As a child of GOD we must know His word and be reminded of His promises that he has for each and everyone of us.

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. (‭Isaiah‬ ‭40‬:‭31‬ KJV)

Just reading this scripture encourages me, because I know he takes care of me. My strength, peace, joy, a sound mind, love, etc. it all comes from Jesus! Why? Because I take my troubles, worries, fear, anxiety, sickness, whatever I’m facing to The Lord. I don’t have to deal with those things, I put them in His hands. Otherwise I would of been a nut case, and walked away from my savior.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭5-6‬ KJV)

But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. (‭Matthew‬ ‭24‬:‭13‬ KJV)

  7. 30 When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.

Thankyou Lord for the Holy Ghost (Comforter)

I pray that I will pay attention when I have some behaviors that im not comfortable with. Its tome for me to evaluate myself and make changes for the Lord. The Kingdom of God is nearer than when we first believed. Nless you Lord for directing my life to change for Your Glorifying ways.

  8. Say “I don’t care”

    Luke 21:34 (KJV Strong’s)
“34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.”

1 Peter 5:6-7 (Wuest – The New Testament: An Expanded Translation)
” 6 Permit yourselves therefore to be humbled under the mighty hand of God, in order that you He may exalt in an appropriate season, 7 having deposited with Him once for all the whole of your worry, because to Him it is a matter of concern respecting you.”

    1 Peter 5:6-7 (Amplified Bible – AMP)
“6 Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you,
7 Casting thewhole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about youwatchfully.”

Our human nature wants to figure it out. Daily we look for answers, and solutions to problems.

“Well if I could just do this..”
    “All I need it this…”
“This is what needs to happen…”

So our prayers become offering God suggestions for problems, but our motive is questionable.

How can we say He is the King if we try to rule instead? The King gives the orders, and we carry them out.

In Luke 21:34 Jesus is not talking about drugs, and alcohol. A child of God should be way above succumbing to such debauchery.

Jesus is speaking of the intoxicating effects of control. The word surfeiting also means self-indulgence.

If we are not careful we become drunken with power.

Luke 21:34 (Wuest – The New Testament: An Expanded Translation)
” 34 But be taking heed to yourselves lest at any time your hearts are weighed down with drunken nausea and intoxication and the anxieties pertaining to the affairs of this life, and that day bursts in upon you unexpectedly,”

When we care, worry, doubt, stress, and concern ourselves it is a form of pride.

    1 Peter 5:6-7 (KJV Strong’s)
” 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

The colon after time in verse six suggests the writer is separating two clauses of which the second expands or illustrates the first.

In other words humility, or the lack thereof is directly associated with care.

Jesus said the end time will be filled with intoxicating cares that, if we are not careful, will catch us off guard.

When we cast, or as the word means, deliberately hurl our cares on him we then experience his peace, and he then truly becomes the king of our lives.

Only one can sit on the throne.

  9. 34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

It is so easy to get caught up in life as we know it that the signs of the times become secondary on our lives. We must prayerfully stay in tune to what’s happening so that when the trump sounds we are prepared and ready. I recall the parable of the 5 wise and 5 folkish virgins. 5 foolish thought they had time to go get oil, but bridegroom came while they were gone. Keep focus! Be ready! Time is short!

  10. ETERNAL

33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

Everything we know in life will expire or pass away, except for the WORD of GOD. We are wise to use this principal to gauge our eternal passion:

How much time do I spend reading, learning, understanding, studying the WORD of GOD in comparison to work, sleep or recreation. We are wise to balance our lives around the WORD of GOD, not simply attempt to “fit it into our current lifestyle”.

The WORDs of the LORD being ETERNAL should become the believers primary priority in life. Jobs will expire, friends will expire, family will expire, possessions will expire, but the WORD of GOD is ETERNAL = FOREVER.

Sis. Chenault would make me accountable nearly every time I spoke to her “do you read your BIBLE”? She could ask this question, because the WORD of GOD was so important to her that she read the BIBLE through several times each year.

  11. 14 Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer:

15 For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

16 And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death.

17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake.

18 But there shall not an hair of your head perish.

19 In your patience possess ye your souls.

When this time does come and we feel alone or abandoned, remember that God’s Holy Spirt is there with us to comfort us, protect us, and give us the words we need. This assurance can give us the courage and the faith to stand strong for Christ , even in tough situations.

  12. The End

19 In your patience possess ye your souls.

The “end of our rope” should not be the end of our hope. Trials are uncomfortable but we usually can push through by the mere knowledge that our endurance has not given out and we can still put one foot in front of the other. But what happens when our trial outlasts our strength? Panic can set in, desperation and fear rise up, hopeless falls like a heavy curtain. The end of our rope has come and there’s still no light at the end of the tunnel.

But that’s where faith truly takes over. It is in fact a blessing to have more on us than we can bear, because it is then that our flesh had no choice but to be crucified and we can learn to truly rely upon Jesus and partake of His grace. At the end of our rope is the fulfillment of hope, as His grace is sufficient and His strength is made perfect in our weakness. Grace thrives in our weakness, it boldly declares, “where you have ceased to be able, God is able, and now His strength has a place to dwell.”

We must come with patience into trials, not due to our ability but because of God’s ability. In patience we will endures hardships, persecutions, false accusations, fiery trials… For truly if we don’t have patience to begin, we will find it along the way if we are to come out victorious. Our strength and endurance ceases to be about our ability and becomes measured by our reliance upon Him.

    1 Peter 4:12-14
12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

    Romans 5:1-5
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

    3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

    James 1:2-4 NLT
2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.

3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.

4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

  13. 13 And it shall turn to you for a testimony.
14 Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer:
15 For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

This is why we must be filled daily with the Spirit because God wants to use us but if we only fill our eyes, hearts, and minds with carnality we will be giving out exactly what we put in… help me Jesus to be filled with you every day that i might be used by you also. In Jesus name.

  14. So don’t worry in advance about how to answer the charges against you, for I will give you the right words and such wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to reply or refute you! (‭Luke‬ ‭21‬:‭14-15‬ NLT)

God will help you. Don’t worry about what to say.

  15. 2 And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.

3 And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:
God honored the faith of this widow woman by bragging on her to the whole world about what she had Done. She by sacrificing her last truly gave the most. It’s not in how much we give but in how much a sacrifice our giving is to God

  16. 3 “I tell you the truth,” Jesus said, “this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them.
4 For they have given a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she has.” (NLT)

It’s not always about what you give or how much you give, but rather the sacrifice and attitude behind your giving. Are you really giving God all you have? Trust in the Lord and surrender your all; He will never leave nor forsake but lead you in His paths of righteousness.

  17. “In your patience possess ye your souls.” One can read today and know, what was spoken did come to pass. All the more why there should be no doubt, what shall soon come to pass; “Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.” What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  18. 34, “And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting (to overdo; too great an amount or supply; excess; overindulgence), and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.”
35, “For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.”
36, “Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.”

We need to be careful not to overdo or indulge in the things of this world and be so caught up in the cares of this life, that we miss seeing the signs of His coming and be taken by surprise.
But, we need to be WATCHING and PRAYING. We need to have our eyes, our minds, and our hearts fixed on Jesus.

Vs.28, “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”

  19. But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers for My name’s sake. (‭Luke‬ ‭21‬:‭12‬ NKJV)

Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” (‭Luke‬ ‭21‬:‭28‬ NKJV)

Always a chance at a 2nd try. Thank you Jesus!!

  20. After Jesus describes the different events that will happen in the second coming he says to be ready.
I like how the LIVING BIBLE IS WRITTEN IN VS 34-35
Watch out dont let my second sudden coming catch you off gaurd dont let me find you leaving in carless ease ccarousing and drinking and occupied with the promblems of this life like the reast of the world.
THATS CLEAR TO ME PRAISE GOD

    The Thorns

34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

The cares, riches, and pleasures of this world choke out the Word of God and causes us to miss out on where we actually are in this world today. The majority of the world does not care where we are on the Biblical timeline as long as its not affecting them right now. When things start getting tight, a lot of people are going to run to the church. We must be prepared for the harvest. Let’s pull up those thorns that choke out the Word of God.

  22. We must be ready at all times to meet Jesus. The time of tgat day is coming closer everyday. People get ready Jesus is coming for a bride that has prepared herself for that day.

  23. 25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

    Heart attacks—

About 600,000 people die of heart disease in the United States every year–that’s 1 in every 4 deaths.1
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. More than half of the deaths due to heart disease in 2009 were in men.1
Coronary heart disease is the most common type of heart disease, killing nearly 380,000 people annually.1
Every year about 720,000 Americans have a heart attack. Of these, 515,000 are a first heart attack and 205,000 happen in people who have already had a heart attack.2
Coronary heart disease alone costs the United States $108.9 billion each year.3 This total includes the cost of health care services, medications, and lost productivity.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men in the United States, killing 307,225 men in 2009—that’s 1 in every 4 male deaths.1
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men of most racial/ethnic groups in the United States, including African Americans, American Indians or Alaska Natives, Hispanics, and whites. For Asian American or Pacific Islander men, heart disease is second only to cancer.2
About 8.5% of all white men, 7.9% of black men, and 6.3% of Mexican American men have coronary heart disease.3
Half of the men who die suddenly of coronary heart disease have no previous symptoms.3 Even if you have no symptoms, you may still be at risk for heart disease.
Between 70% and 89% of sudden cardiac events occur in men.

  24. 8 And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.

We recognize other believers by their fruit. The fruit of their mouth and actions.

    Matthew 7:20-21
” Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”

As children of God we need to learn Gods fruit. The fruit of his mouth in his word and prayer, the fruit of his actions by how he treated others, his prayer, his life. If we don’t know Jesus for who he is then we are liable to fall for anything that resembles him.

    John 10:14-15
” I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.”
We must learn to know his voice.

  25. Earthquakes

    Luke 21:11
” and there will be great earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.”

Fracking has caused earthquakes in places they were not really known to occur. This scripture has been fulfilled in our generation.

  26. v 3-4 And he said, Of a truth i say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all :
v4 For all these things have of their abundance cast in into the offering of God; but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.

The LORD IS FAITHFUL as promised and will not overlook the sacrifice of those who give their all to HIS cause. HE judges each gift according to the ability the giver, and not according to the amount of the gift.

    iGive
    iRepent
    iPray
    iPraise

  27. “I tell you the truth,” Jesus said, “this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them. For they have given a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she has.” (‭Luke‬ ‭21‬:‭3-4‬ NLT)

God will always be watching the hearts of His people. It’s our responsibility to remind ourselves what’s truly important. By knowing this we can see a glimpse of the true meaning of servanthood and sacrifice.

  28. Verses 34-36 MSG “But be on your guard. Don’t let the sharp edge of your expectation get dulled by parties and drinking and shopping. Otherwise, that Day is going to take you by complete surprise, spring on you suddenly like a trap, for it’s going to come on everyone, everywhere, at once. So, whatever you do, don’t go to sleep at the switch. Pray constantly that you will have the strength and wits to make it through everything that’s coming and end up on your feet before the Son of Man.” We cannot afford to get caught up in this life here on earth…..for this is not our home; but pray constantly as this scripture says above.

  29. But not a hair of your head will perish! By standing firm, you will win your souls. (‭Luke‬ ‭21‬:‭18-19‬ NLT)

How can one stand firm in a fast paced world with havoc just around the corner?  This chapter talks about the end times and just like it explains we are seeing the sings of the coming things.  If we look at the news we hear tormoil going around the world.  Everything seems to change what was 20 years ago is now obsolete.  When the troubles reach you and your home what can we do?  We are told not to worry even if we get turned in it will be a time to witness and God will give us words.  For that to be we must be tuned in to the right channel of the Holy Spirit.  The Word of God tells us that He will bring all things to our rememberance. The best way to do this is to spend time in His word.  Everything gets shaken up but the Rock of ages stands firm.  His word will stand and remain.  There lays the solution
Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear. (‭Luke‬ ‭21‬:‭33‬ NLT)
Stand on His and on his promises.  If we are to hold on to something hold on to the word of God! When the enemy and troubled try to imitate the roar of a lion, let the Lion of Judah roar in thunder and praise!

  30. 15 For I [Myself] will give you a mouth and such utterance and wisdom that all of your foes combined will be unable to stand against or refute.

PRAISE GOD! If God is with us who shall be against us!!! You are so merciful Jesus…..

36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

PRAYER is the answer to everything and to become CONQUERORS 🙂

4 For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.

I believe what he was saying is do not be half hearted in what you do. Sacrifice.
