John 20

1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.

3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.

4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.

5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.

6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,

7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.

9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.

11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,

12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.

13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.

14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.

15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.

17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.

19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.

21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.

25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.

26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.

27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:

31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

  1. He Arose……………..

9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

“We are sent!”…….”Breath on us again with a greater increase of the Holy Ghost”.

21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

We are blessed, because Jesus said so! I haven’t seen him, and I truly believe!

29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

You see there are things that he did, that has been purposely omitted! It is up to us to research it or experience things on our own as well. But, of course it has to line up with God’s Word & Will/Plan.

30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:

    “Merry Christmas”……………………………………………………………………………………..

  2. Why doubt????

Faith does not doubt, faith does not Vacilate it is stable and strong. A blind man never sees the sun but he believes is there because he feels his warmth upon his face. Blessed are those that can believe that way in JESUS Christ God with US!!!!!

  3. “For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.” Those that were close to him, still did not know all. Regardless if one knows or not, all scripture shall be fulfilled, which is all the more reason why one should want to know the word of God (Jesus). What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  4. THE PERILS OF MISSING CHURCH

JESUS appeared in the midst of them, was possibly “just” another meeting, Thomas no doubt was cumbered with much and just unable to attend due to fatigue, work, family, business or any of the other hundreds of reasons that have been offered over the years. However we learn from Thomas the frailty of missing just 1 service or meeting.

FAITH is what suffers most when we fail to be faithful to meetings, obvious here by the doubt (which is the absence of FAITH).

Seeing as we serve and worship a GOD that can do anything at anytime in any location through anybody we are wise to attend all meetings, prayer, worship, planning, training and fellowship. Lest we find ourselves in a place of doubt and unbelief rather than in a place of FAITH.

  5. 12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.

Mary saw a familiar sight. One angel at the head and one at the feet. It was like witnessing a live version of the ark of the covenant. These were the Angels that were always there around the presence of God.

We should live this way as well.

The word says we should be mindful of the things of the spirit and set our affections or mind on things above. It also says those who are led by his spirit are the sons of God.

We should keep our head and feet in the clouds.

  6. 15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.

17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

Jesus said Mary, then she realized who he was, not the gardener the Master. I am reminded of the scripture that says my sheep know my voice. And a strangers voice they will not follow.
We should soon learn the voice of God and learn to follow. Listen to what Jesus says to us and be obedient to his word and allow God to be God in our lives.

  7. 11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,

Mary’s relationship with Jesus meant a lot to her. She had came to seek out his body, only to find the tomb empty. Questioning all those around her, she wanted to know where they had taken her Lord. She stood at the sepulcher weeping for what she thought had been taken away from her, only to find her answer standing right before her eyes.

We can always find our answer by seeking the Lord. Like this illustration Jesus is standing right there, waiting on us to ask of Him, search His word and He will reveal Himself to us, just like He did to Mary Magdelene.

  8. 28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

Trust in God! Thomas doubted that it really was Jesus, instead of having faith in him. We must not doubt him but have faith in him, if he says he will do it, he will! We must continually be building our faith up on his word!!

  9. Amen
    john 20:28
and Thomas answered and said unto him my lord and my god

have faith and trust in God and he will lead you to the right place and he will never give up on you in the world

  10. Breathe

    John 20:22
And when He had said this, He breathed on them and *said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

ἐμφυσάω emphysaō; from 1722 and φυσάω phusaō (to puff) (compare 5453); to blow at or on: — breathe on.

Used only once in the NT. Used in Gen 2:7 in the Septuagint.

The first seed of Adam’s race began with the breath of God (Genesis 2:7), but the “last Adam” began with the breath of God in Christ. The first man had been formed from the dust of the ground, and when the Lord God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, he became a “living soul,” but Christ was made a “quickening spirit” (1 Corinthians 15:45).

Jesus picked up fallen dust from the ground of Israel, shaped them for three years, and now He breathed life into them, as He did in Genesis with the dust He had formed into Adam’s body. It was but a gentle breath at conception, which became a rushing mighty wind on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:2), and caused the living Body of Christ to stand on its feet on earth.

  11. Unity

Even though John outran Peter, he did not go in to the tomb until after Peter had. Peter was given the keys of the Kingdom and was chose to lead the Disciples in the early church. John submitted to him as his man of God and honored him for his position even though he had opportunity to get the advantage, both by outrunning him and by the fact that Peter had just betrayed the Lord three times just days earlier. John did not hold Peter in contempt or thought himself to be better but gave him honor and respected the Lord’s decision to put him in that position of leadership. Peter learned what it was to have his feet washed by his fellow believer, how we all fall short and need the love and compassion of Christ extended to us when we fail, and John learned what it was to wash the feet of his fellow believer, how when he could have taken advantage he instead came as a servant in love. It is beautiful when the body of Christ operates in love and unity, fulfilling the will of God.

    Psalm 133:1-3
1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

    2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;

3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.

  12. When life brings you down, where do you run to? who do you run to? when God try to show you something do you believe or do you put to the back of your mind?

  13. 21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

Peace be with you he said. There is always peace in God.

  14. 27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

Hebrews 10:38-39 Now the just live by faith but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

But we are of them who draw back unto perdition, but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

  15. vs 22-23 Then he breathes on them and told them to recive the Hply Spirt. If you forgive anybodys sins tjey are forgiven. If you refuse to forgive them they are un forgiven.

  16. iLove to eat the Word

V9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

How many times did Jesus reveal to the disciples the scripture about him rising from the dead? There are several different times throughout the scriptures that Jesus told the disciples point blank that he would be crucified and would rise from the dead on the third day.

How many times does he have to tell us today of a particular situation before we actually get the revelation.

  17. Verse 23 AMP ” [Now having received the Holy Spirit, and being [b]led and directed by Him] if you forgive the sins of anyone, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of anyone, they are retained.” Same verse MSG “If you forgive someone’s sins, they’re gone for good. If you don’t forgive sins, what are you going to do with them?” If we want to be forgiven for our sins, then we too must forgive.

Verses 30-31 MSG “Jesus provided far more God-revealing signs than are written down in this book. These are written down so you will believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and in the act of believing, have real and eternal life in the way he personally revealed it.”

  18. Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: (‭John‬ ‭20‬:‭21-22‬ KJV)

Wow. When JESUS comes in he brings peace and the Holy Ghost. I want more of you God!

  19. 15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.

Does He know your name?… There are different levels of relationship that we ha d with different people. Some are close others merely acquainted to you. How there is a big level of difference when some one calls you Mister or Miss, than some one calling you by name. We call our intimate friends by name, if your married you’re spouse as well. It shows that connection and level of trust that is in the relationship. And the key thing is there a relationship. We should strive to get to know Him and He know us and by name.
It’s all about relationship… I want to come into His presence over and over again that He just knows me by name and Him say; here comes Jonathan again..

Matthew 7:21-23 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

  20. 27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
We are guilty because oftentimes we must have a sign to believe that God will do a certain thing for us, but we should just step out on faith..

  21. So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” (‭John‬ ‭20‬:‭21‬ NKJV)

Send me Jesus. Teach me teacher love me like a father. I want MORE of you and MORE of your grace.

And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. (‭John‬ ‭20‬:‭30-31‬ NKJV)

    Life is in Jesus name.

  22. Mary’s account of coming to the tomb & finding the angels inside touches me in that she did not leave perplexed like Peter & John. She stayed there searching for her Lord. Then Jesus came to her and revealed himself to her – calling her by name. This touches me to see his concern for OUR trials. Although Jesus just suffered and died, Mary and the disciples also suffered and were in confusion. By calling Mary by her name, he brought comfort to her dilemma. If we call on him and linger for his presence, what we seek for, he will provide. What we may find is not just an answer to a problem, but rather what we truly needed in our dilemma- HIM!

  23. John 20:21 again Jesus said. Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me. I am sending you and with that he breathed on them and said. Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins their sins are forgiven.if you don’t forgive them they are not forgiven.

  24. 29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

I AM BLESSED!!!! I have not seen Jesus physically but I sure have seen him manifested in healing, deliverance, Holy Spirit, & MORE!!! His precence is so powerful that you can’t contain yourself to cry out and bow down to Him. Nobody can’t take away what I believe in because my God is BIG, MIGHTY, & POWERFUL!!! Thank you Jesus for dying for me!!!!

  25. vss.30-31 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
But these are written, that ye might believe that JESUS is the Christ , the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

HIS Resurrection reveals that death is not final, for JESUS CHRIST conquered death, hell , and the grave. That we might believe in HIM and have a meaningful spiritual life through HIM .
    THANK YOU JESUS!!!

  26. Peace be unto you !!!! 18. Ma’-ry Mag’-da-lene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her. Matt. 28 : 10 19. Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Je’-sus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. Mark 16 : 14; 1 Cor. 15 : 5 20. And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord. John 16 : 22 I LOVE YOU JESUS !!!!! Praise Ye the LORD !!!!
