Acts 4

1 And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,

2 Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

3 And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.

4 Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.

5 And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes,

6 And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.

7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?

8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,

9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;

10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,

16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.

17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.

18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.

20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.

22 For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed.

23 And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.

24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:

25 Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?

26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.

27 For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,

28 For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.

29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,

30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,

35 And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

36 And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,

37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

  1. Waiting to see these kinds of signs and wonders in my live, and the lives of others! Bring this word to pass again, dear Lord Jesus Christ. Amen & Amen.

30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

When you see a miracle, don’t be surprized when the Nay Sayers arise, or the religious folk been to uprise over it. Don’t stop proclaiming Jesus Christ is Lord!

    “Merry Christmas”………………………………………………………………..

  2. Verse 19 KJV “But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you MORE than unto God, judge ye.” Same verse MSG “But Peter and John spoke right back, “Whether it’s right in God’s eyes to listen to you rather than to God, you decide.” Their response was in verse 20 MSG “As for us, there’s no question—we can’t keep quiet about what we’ve seen and heard.”

Verse 29-31 MSG “And now they’re at it again! Take care of their threats and give your servants fearless confidence in preaching your Message, as you stretch out your hand to us in healings and miracles and wonders done in the name of your holy servant Jesus.” While they were praying, the place where they were meeting trembled and shook. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak God’s Word with fearless confidence.”

We too must never keep quiet….you might say I could never speak out like that, I don’t know what to say; but, Matthew 10:17-20 MSG says “Don’t be naive. Some people will impugn your motives, others will smear your reputation—just because you believe in me. Don’t be upset when they haul you before the civil authorities. Without knowing it, they’ve done you—and me—a favor, given you a platform for preaching the kingdom news! And don’t worry about what you’ll say or how you’ll say it. The right words will be there; the Spirit of your Father will supply the words.” Thank you Jesus….give me MORE and MORE of YOU.

  3. 14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,

16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.

It’s hard to argue with proof…
Many people still try to say that miracles don’t happen any more and the Holy Ghost is not for us today, but when we tell them about those same events happening in our own lives, their denials “don’t hold water” as Bro. Smith would say.

  4. 14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

The truth is in the miracle! How can you say anything against it? The high priest could not prove anything against these apostles except they saw this lame man healed. They did not want this religion to spread no further, but who can stand against God?
No one this Holy Ghost message will keep moving!

  5. Holy Ghost Power!!

The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.

And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness. (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭4‬:‭13, 29-31‬ NLT)

We have been given the power to preach/teach the word of GOD to our city!
We need to stop living in fear. Or being concerned of rejection. We can obtain that confidence through Jesus Christ. How many times have we been in public surrounded by hundreds of people, and in your mind you begin to think of speaking the word of The Lord, and as much as you desire to speak, you begin to wonder….”what would they say/ or think of me”. And you leave walking away because you didn’t say what was burning inside. You leave asking The Lord for forgiveness.

We seem not to realize that power and boldness comes from Him, and not yourself. The power of the Holy Ghost is in you to use. Scripture clearly states:
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (‭Acts‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬ KJV)

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (‭2 Timothy‬ ‭1‬:‭7‬ KJV)

  6. 16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.

These guys are actually contemplating trying to LIE and convince the masses of people that what they saw was fake!

How many times do we receive our miracles and try to dismiss them as coincidences, or even tell ourselves that the miracles never really happened?

  7. Illiterate idiots

    Acts 4:13 (KJV Strong’s)
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

The word unlearned in the Greek is
(CWSB Dictionary) 62. ἀγράμματος agrámmatos; gen. agrammátou, masc.-fem., neut. agrámmaton, adj. from a (G0001), without, and grámma (G1121), a letter, learning. Unlearned, ILLITERATE (Acts 4:13).

The word ignorant is (Olive Tree Enhanced Strong’s Dictionary) g2399. ἰδιώτης idiōtēs; from 2398; a private person, i.e. (by implication) an ignoramus (compare “idiot”): — ignorant, rude, unlearned.
    AV (5) – unlearned 3, ignorant 1, rude 1;
a private person as opposed to a magistrate, ruler, kinga common soldier, as opposed to a military officera writer of prose as opposed to a poetin the NT, an unlearned, illiterate, man as opposed to the learned and educated: one who is unskilled in any art.

Ignoramus is an ignorant and stupid person. It is a Latin word literally meaning “we do not know.”

These men were perceived as ignorant idiots.

    Bravo!

Acts 4:13 (Wuest – The New Testament: An Expanded Translation)
13 And viewing with a practiced eye the free and fearless confidence of Peter and John as manifested in their uninhibited and unreserved manner of speaking, and comprehending the fact that they were without formal education and that they were not professional men but laymen, they began to wonder and kept on wondering, and they began to recognize them as those who were with Jesus.

This is exactly what they wanted the people to think. Their attention was turned away from the disciples to Jesus. They recognized these were Jesus’ disciples. This meant the disciples could take ZERO credit.

Our position, our pats on the back, and appreciations can get in the way of God and his plan. The minister is a vessel, or conduit. The only boasting can be in that they were dead to self and let Jesus live through them.

If the disciples were perceived as highly educated and experienced men then they would have gotten praise of men.

“Great job guys! What a message! What an amazing miracle! You two are something else!”

However all they could do is say they had been with Jesus.

    Acts 4:10 (KJV Strong’s)
10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

  8. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

HIS NAME IS JESUS!!!!! MY LORD, MY SAVIOR, MY REDEEMER, MY FRIEND!!!!

  9. vs -12
    NO OTHER NAME
Jesus name is the power and authority Jesus name is the only source of salvation. Only one to forgive sins and provide new spiritual life.

  10. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

ENOUGH said!!!! And His Name is Jesus.

  11. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

The miracles that Peter and John did were amazing and the people wanted to judge them for healing and proclaiming the name of Jesus but at the same time they knew these miracles had come from God. And even though Peter and John were not super smart. One thing was sure… They had been with Jesus!

  12. 31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

One heart, one soul….the people were one! Unity is so important in the body of Christ. One individual out of sync can hinder the moving of the Spirit. We must keep spiritually connected and in tune with God, keep carnality out of our lives, and be part of what God is doing at POFW.

  13. MORE GOD LESS YOU

It is a common temptation and mistake among believers to be concerned with the thoughts, opinions, and requests of others. However there must be a place that we draw the line and say I would rather hearken to God MORE than man. The WORD of GOD is eternal and the word of man is temporal, the necessity to harken unto God MORE than you is revealed through the understanding of eternal life.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  14. 24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:

What a mighty God we serve!!

    The Gospel Grieves Folks

2 Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

When I worked as an electrician, when I finally ran a truck of my own, I would turn on Christian music as I worked. When other tradesmen would come around I could tell they would become grieved simply by the music. One would think that the music would bring peace…and it does, but it appears to grieve to who do not wish to hear about the resurrection.

When a person starts to talk about the resurrection from the dead, it depresses those who do not want to consider death. This is the main reason drugs and alcohol are so popular. These mind altering drugs remove people from reality.

When reality is brought to the masses in the Spirit of conviction, some will be grieved while the others will become believers.

“many” of them which heard the word believed. many=more

  16. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of
them, that they had been with Jesus.

Not everyone will hear us out when we witness about the name of Jesus but we just have to keep on

  17. “But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.” They were afraid of the power, which was then and still is today in the name of God (Jesus). One should speak of the one true God, whose name is Jesus, especially in a free country; “But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.” What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  18. 18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.
19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

No matter what others may say or think, we must never stop proclaiming His greatness!

  19. The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus. (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭4‬:‭13‬ NLT)

When they come against you. Jesus will give you the words and the courage to speak and stand bold. They were only bold through Jesus they had no doubt that what they were doing was right.

  20. 10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

We need to always remember, every day, the Jesus is our cornerstone for everything in our lives. We are blessed, we are healed and we are saved and delivered because of the name of Jesus.

When we put Jesus as the foundation to any decision that we make in life, he will bless that and bless your life. So remember because of Jesus is why you still here where you are today.

  21. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

AMEN!!!! 🙂 no other name that is higher…even if people deny or refuse his Name we know he has ALL the POWER and that we are NOTHING without him!!! Jesus is a living God so let’s go and continue fighting the daily battle!!!!! Nothing can stop us because we are covered by the blood of Jesus 🙂 we are MORE than conquerors!!!

  22. You can use my truck

32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

Unity begins with a helping hand. I have recieved help on the side of the road when I had 2 flats on my trailer and 1 spare tire, an elder from the church came and picked me up and took me to get another tire and then helped me fix it. I broke down one time and called one of my brothers and he told me to call a tow truck and a cab. I have been on the other end too when I have went many miles away to help someone, but all this is not out of the ordinary in the kingdom, it is expected. Where I may not have the answer to certain things my brother in the Lord may. When he needs something that I have he should know that I am there for him.

It is time to unify like the first church and see the power of God manifest in our lives.

  23. 33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

It’s the power of the Holy Ghost working in us that makes the difference.

    Unction!

  24. 20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

The work of God speaks for itself. We are to be witness to it and testify of it. It doesn’t need us to dress it up and try to make it more than what it is, doing so only takes away from it. We can only speak the things which we see and hear God do.

  25. No matter how great the consequence is, we should always confess that wonderful name Jesus Christ. In spite the threats from the Sanhedrin, Peter and John continue to pray for their strength and preach the gospel. God is good all the time and all the time God is good!!!! God once again shows his faithfullness and magnificant glory, as the Holy Spirit fell on them.

Thank you God for giving us strength when we need it the most, in our weakest times. Let us always call on you everyday, in Jesus name Amen.
    I love you.

  26. Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,

The price of selling out. Have you counted the cost to follow Jesus? Many so call Christians don’t want to pay the price. The price is selling out to God.

  27. Jesus

    Acts 4:12
And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”

The name of God (Jehovah has become salvation). It is the only name that saves us. Thank God for Calvary.

  28. v 12 Neither is there salvation in any other : for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved .

JESUS IS ABOVE EVERY NAME , and without question , the LORD has called us to be witnesses of HIS NAME .

  29. Shaken

19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.

31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

Hard times will come that will be intimidating and try us, but we must know in whom we believe. Peter and John had a choice: be shaken by circumstances or shake their circumstances by the power of trusting in God. Either way, something would have to yield. Trials and storms are not the time to spin out and yield to the chaos but seek the Lord all the More.

    1 Corinthians 16:13
Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.

  30. 19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.

Man will never be wiser, knowledgeable, or more righteous than God. Yet still some listen more to man, or themselves and not obey God. We need more of God and less of us in our lives. God is the only way to life. Who are you gonna listen to? May The Lord open our understanding to know His voice in our life and obey it.

  31. 24) And when they heard that , they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said , Lord, thou art God , which hast made heaven , and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:

  32. 13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

To say that you need to go to school or bible college, to be a better Christian, preacher, anything is be dunked. Jesus has been marveling learned and taught people for over two thousand years.
My father always said if he could be one thing the best, he didn’t want to be the greatest preacher or minister or musician. He just wanted to be the best Christian.

  33. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Salvation is just one of the many things the name of Jesus will do for someone. HE is the great I Am and the first and last. All we have to doe is call on HIS name and He will hear our cry and become what is needed for the season we are in.

    Speak the Name of JESUS!

  34. 10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

Very true god is great all time.

  35. No other Name !!!! 11. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Ps. 118 : 22 Matt. 21 : 42 12. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. 13. Now when they saw the boldness of Pe’-ter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Je’-sus. 14. And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. I LOVE YOU JESUS !!!! You are wonderful !!!!! You are Great !!!!! You Reign !!!!!
