Acts 6

1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

13 And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

14 For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

  1. 4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

Amen! MORE PRAYER=More love, dedication, willingness, patience, etc. Which leads us to the ministry of reaching out to all those that are lost!
“We have to love the things that God loves so that he can give us what we love!!!”(Bro Guy)
Without prayer is like not talking to your spouse, slowly your not going to know what he/she likes, what their going thru, the love is going to start dying, your not gonna care bout him/her anymore. Sad to say but there is a lot of people that have lost that passion for God, but that is why it’s so important for us to have that passion for the souls!!!! We have to tell and reach out the lost that there is a God that is all powerful, mighty, and that loves them.!!!!! 🙂

  2. iLove to eat More Word

“More Word, More Disciples, More Obedience”
7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

    The Word of God “Increased”
    * Pastor has given us the recipe to increase the Word of God at The Pentecostals. If the whole body of believers would blog everyday, the Word of God would increase tremendously at POFW.

The number of Disciples multiplied greatly.
    * The key is to remove Pastor and Sister Watts from “serving tables” so they can give themselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. That’s going to require us to “Work More” and not tell them our every little “I need a bandaid story.”

    More Obedience to the Faith
Once we put these measures into place, and we become more obedient to the faith, God will then move us to this level found in Acts 6.

  3. vs 2
The twelve did not impose a solution but suggested the process by which the church would resolve its own difficulties. Leaders should guide and direct.

  4. A repost that may help someone.
    Crosses without crucifixions.
Matt16:24. If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Gal 2:20. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live:
We all are aware of the agony of Calvary. The pain, suffering and agonizing death of our Savior on the cross.
He could have called 10,000 angels and delivered himself from the cross. But he stayed there for you and me.
A Sunday school teacher ask a small child, what held Jesus to the cross? He replied, it was the nails that held him there.
No it was not the nails or Roman soldiers that held him to that old rugged cross. It was love that held him there. Love for the vilest of sinners and for the saint that can’t get it right.
God give us all a revelation of that precious love.
But with the cross comes crucifixion. Carting the cross will not save you in itself. We all must have crucifixion. Thats when all flesh died and spirit lives.
Simon if Siren helped him carry his cross. There are a lot of people that don’t mind helping him carry his cross, but not many wont anything to do do with crucifixion.
If Jesus had only carried the cross, we wouldn’t have salvation or redemption.
The reason many people’s family is not saved is there has been no crucifixion. Flesh still lives. Temper tantrums, cuss fits and failures every day. They see all this in there lives and don’t want what they have.
But when flesh dies the spirit of Christ lives.
I can help you carry your your cross, but crucifixion must be done by each of you. I must crucify my own flesh.
Ron. 8:6. They that are in the flesh cannot please God.
The cross and crucifixion bought Salvation and Redemption and it still will.
1Cor 15:31. Paul said, I die daily. He then said, That I may know him in the fellowship of his suffering.
Just like Jesus, we have the power to come down from our cross, but I’m staying until my flesh dies.
I’m going to make a statement that I pray doesn’t offend you. Worry, sleepless nights, stressed out all the time and constant fear is a sign that flesh is still alive.
You will be shocked at the new dimension of power and miracles you will walk in, when your flesh dies.
Tomorrow I will tell you what crucifixion will produce.
This is not a message of scolding but of Empowerment. We all need to here this. Somebody at least say AMEN or OH. ME.
When Jesus at Calvary, said it is finished and flesh died, look at what it produced. He obtained power over death, hell and the grave. It will still produce that in your life.
PLEASE don’t quit me now. This is Gods word for us. G. Guy.

  5. Sorry wrong paste ,“Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.” To everything there is a season, and a reason, as such one would be wise to count it a blessing to serve, in any capacity for the Lord (Jesus); “And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.” What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  6. 7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

This is the ultimate goal of the church, for the Word of God to increase and the disciples to be multiplied. The later part of this verse says that even a great company of the priest were obedient to the faith.
Many times we want to give up on some people because of who they are. These Apostles were converting priest from the Jewish law to The Lord Jesus Christ. This should be what we want to do is convert people to this message!

  7. 8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

Stephen was a man of honest report, he was led by the Holy Ghost, and he preached the gospel of Jesus. The religious men of the day rose up against him and debated with him. When it wasn’t enough they brought in men to lie on him. Stephen was being set up as the first Christian martyr.

We are not all destined to be martyr for Christ, but we can learn from Stephen that even when you are led by the Holy Ghost and do the right thing you will face opposition. Men will lie on you and probably much worse, but our focus needs to be on God and not our circumstance.

    Psalms 5:12
    For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous;
with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

  8. THE PERILS OF MORE

1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

Every revival births its own challenges. The call of GOD to the church is MORE; prayer, WORD, praise, people, conversions, meals and unfortunately MORE murmuring.

We have already been witness to what UNITY is able to accomplish; we have seen it through the WORD of GOD and even here at The POFW. Unity refuses murmuring, complaining, strife, unforgiving and jealousy, all are the FRUIT of selfishness.

As there is MORE WORD, there will be MORE SOULS and MORE OPPORTUNITIES. My prayer is that we commit ourselves to being the SOLUTION and not the PROBLEM.

Let the REVIVAL of MORE at The POFW generate its own perils and solutions and through UNITY we will answer the call to MORE.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  9. Continual Ministry

4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
    (Acts 6:4 KJVStrongs)

Continually give ourselves – 4342. προσκαρτερέω prŏskartĕrĕō, pros-kar-ter-eh´-o; from 4314 and 2594; to be earnest towards, i.e. (to a thing) to persevere, be constantly diligent, or (in a place) to attend assiduously all the exercises, or (to a person) to adhere closely to (as a servitor):—attend (give self) continually (upon), continue (in, instant in, with), wait on (continually). (Strongs)

ministry – 1248. διακονία diakŏnia, dee-ak-on-ee´-ah; from 1249; attendance (as a servant, etc.); fig. (eleemosynary) aid, (official) service (espec. of the Chr. teacher, or techn. of the diaconate):—(ad-) minister (-ing, -tration, -try), office, relief, service (-ing). (Strong’s)

There is nothing that the enemy would like more than to get the man of God distracted, weighed down, over burdened, and losing focus.

Just as Jesus told Peter, it is the Pastor’s job to “feed his sheep.” When the sheep are not properly fed there are issues with spiritual sickness, and malnutrition. Worse a hungry sheep will try and eat other things. When the Pastor cannot pray, and study the sheep fill themselves up on carnal worldy destructive things.

7 Now, who of you having a slave who is plowing or tending a flock of sheep, who having come out of the field will say to him, Having arrived, go at once and have your meal? 8 But will he not rather say to him, Prepare at once something in order that I may have my dinner, and having properly attired yourself for serving me, wait on me until I eat and drink, and after these things you will eat and drink
    (Luke 17:7-8 Wuest)

Once the pastor has been in the field, and in prayer laboring for souls, and he has fed the sheep there is one more thing he must needs do: spend time with Jesus.

When he is going to hospitals, mowing yards, cleaning the sanctuary, making copies, and other things he can become weighed down, and is time with the master is limited.

By taking the load off it helps the church to flourish, prosper, and grow.

  10. 3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

The Ministry of Helps is very important in the Kingdom of God. Sometimes this ministry is looked upon as unimportant because you are not standing behind the pulpit. It is the little details that makes the big operation run smoothly. Jesus had them appoint people who were trustworthy, possessed integrity, character to handle all the details so that the work of the Ministry could progress. I’m thankful for everyone at POFW who handles all the details. I don’t agree with the statement “don’t sweat the small things” when it comes to the Kingdom of God, because small things, when not handled properly becomes big things that can hinder the move of God. Every detail is important! Thank you POFW for all you do in the ministry of helps: driving the van, janitorial, hospitality, media/sound booth, picking up supplies from Sams, picking up the trash in parking lot, parking in the right place to leave front open for guests, driving the buses, all these things and many more are important to God.

  11. 8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

This is the kind of faith and wisdom that we need to have! Lord I pray that you give me the faith, wisdom, and strenth that Stephen had!!

  12. 7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

This is exactly what we need in the church today, for the word of God to be increased and the disciples to be multiplied and for all of us to be obedient to the faith and to the the people that are in the spiritual head of us. And one of the keys to this is stay in his word daily and through the day so that we can be spiritually feed from God!

1 John 2:5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected, hereby know we that we are in him.

  13. The fire fighters

This chapter will put us in ministry. There are many situations that arise in the church that the Pastor and Sister Watts don’t need to be overwhelmed with. We as their studies can be of great help to the kingdom and to them personally if we can catch some of the issues before it gets to them. We can put out fires in the congregation by just being full of the Holy Ghost and have s good repor. The more time that Pastor is not trying to put out fires the more time he has to study and pray. When he gets the time that he desires and the time he is called to the word and message coming out of the pulpit will move mountains, it will tear down strong holds, it will change lives. Let us be the fire fighters and let our man of God do what he’s called to do. When we do that look at what happened to Stephen he did great miracles and wonders among the people. This will be the beginning and fruition of our ministries. Serving the man of God will take us to the next level. Stephen was called to do the trench work and then great miracles started happening. I’m going to get in the trenches this morning and see what God will do.
    Amen

  14. 7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

    And obedient to God.

I appreciate the truth of the gospel and that we wont flow every wind of doctrine.

  15. Acts 6:6 they present ed these men to the apostles who prayed and laid their hands on them. So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapid lyrics and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.

  16. I decrease so He increases

7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

Love the way my Jesus does MATH!!!! HE MULTIPLIES!!!! HE INCREASES!!!! HE = ABUNDANCE!!!! Lets serve others, bless others, share His word and His love with others and HE WILL MULTIPLY AND INCREASE the harvest. FOR EVERYTHING HE TOUCHES MUST GROW AND BECOME ABUNDANT. May the Lord help us to have more work, more prayer, more laborers for HIS KINGDOM. IN JESUS NAME AMEN.

  17. 10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

No matter how hard you try to go against the power of God it is guaranteed to make you a failure. The devil tried and ended up in hell. The Philistines tried ended up dead. As you can see, to try to resist God always will make your outcome a negative one. Let us hold fast to God and always put him first.

  18. Acts 6:5-6
The statement found approval with the whole congregation; and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch. And these they brought before the apostles; and after praying, they laid their hands on them.

These seven men were appointed to responsibilities turned over to them by the Twelve. The Greek word used to describe their responsibility (“wait on”) is the verb from which the noun “deacon” comes. The Greek noun for “deacon(s)” can also be translated “minister” or “servant.” The men appointed on this occasion were simply called the Seven (Ac 21:8), just as the apostles were called the Twelve. It is disputed whether the Seven were the first deacons or were later replaced by deacons (see the note on 1Ti 3:8-13).

  19. 14 For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

If Jesus died. Then why was and is the world so afraid of him? Could it be that Jesus is alive and well. YES!!! He is risen from the dead and lives within us. Thank you Jesus. I want more of you.

  20. 1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

    More:
To reach more people with the gospel, Pastor has shared with each ministry that we must build teams within each of the ministries of POFW. It’s not working harder, but working smarter as they have shown us in these verses today. As disciples at POFW multiply, our ministries must grow. And as we grow in number, we must grow in spirit- more of you Lord in me means more to give to others!

  21. 3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

There must always be men and women of God who are willing to give of their time to the work of the ministry. This allows the pastor to commit to study and prepare to feed God’s people with the word.

  22. 4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

If we will give ourselves continually to the Lord, then we will see wonderful things start to happen around us!!!!! The Lord has plans for us all, but only if we allow Him to. Thank you Jesus for your love and help me to continue to grow in you daily!!! I worship you Lord and I lift my voice to worship you, oh my soul rejoice!!!! Rejoice, rejoice and again I say rejoice!!! Thank you God!
    I love you.

  23. None of them could stand against the wisdom and the Spirit with which Stephen spoke. So they persuaded some men to lie about Stephen, saying, “We heard him blaspheme Moses, and even God.” (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭6‬:‭10-11‬ NLT)

The more wisdom and spirit we receive from the Lord the harder it will be for the devil. That fool will lie, cheat and steal to try and win but with God ALL things are possible.
    More word= more wisdom
    More spirit/prayer= more power

  24. Full

8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

Stephen lived full of faith and power by not just filling up once but continually seeking God and stretching to receive More. He expanded where he served to do more at the Lord’s call and in turn received more of God. In the midst of opportunity to stretch, we also have the opportunity for more of God as we hunger for Him and cast off the cares that would keep us from Him.

    Jude 1:20-21
20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

  25. Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. (‭Acts‬ ‭6‬:‭2-3, 8‬ KJV)

Table servers… If we are to look at it with the wrong perspective one can erroneously say why didn’t the disciples want to attend that need?   What I see here is that they did.  They showed great leadership skills and delegated that they may focus themselves in their calling.  One should not understimate small beginnings or being just a servant.  These men were chosen and appointed to do great work for the kingdom ministering one on one to the people and it was the server like Stephen whom Jesus used to do great miracles and wonders.  God can use you were you are.  We see here that it was not necessary for him to have pulpit ministry, but he was filled with faith and power from the Holy Ghost.  If we are willing and obedient God can use us right where we are to do exploits for Him.  After all we are all servants of the most high God.

Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.” (The seven lamps represent the eyes of the LORD that search all around the world.) (‭Zechariah‬ ‭4‬:‭10‬ NLT)

  26. And the saying pleased the whole multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch, whom they set before the apostles; and when they had prayed, they laid hands on them. (‭Acts‬ ‭6‬:‭5-6‬ NKJV)

The bigger our church grows. The more Disciples will be needed. So when the time is right they are ready to go to work when called.

Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith. (‭Acts‬ ‭6‬:‭7‬ NKJV)

MORE of the word of God. MORE of the souls will be won for his glory.

  27. I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their groans and have come down to rescue them. Now go, for I am sending you back to Egypt.’ (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭7‬:‭34‬ NLT)

He has came to save his people that have burdens. Come lay your burdens down at his feet and give him praise.

“Stress is the lack of faith in God. ”

Name one prophet your ancestors didn’t persecute! They even killed the ones who predicted the coming of the Righteous One—the Messiah whom you betrayed and murdered. You deliberately disobeyed God’s law, even though you received it from the hands of angels.” (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭7‬:‭52-53‬ NLT)

They were told the truth and the truth was a hard pill to swallow. They needed to be corrected they didn’t want to except the truth right now.

As they stoned him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” He fell to his knees, shouting, “Lord, don’t charge them with this sin!” And with that, he died. (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭7‬:‭59-60‬ NLT)

Persecuted for Preaching the Gospel. Thank you Jesus.

We will or persecuted.in the endtime But if we will stay faithful to him and his word when it’s our time to die we will not cry and weep and be full of sorrow. And wish to live or life over again. But we will be glad And happy.

“Dying like a hero going home”

    Joyful.

  28. Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch: Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them. And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith. (‭Acts‬ ‭6‬:‭3-7‬ KJV)

The word-is JESUS- increased when the people who knew about JESUS were able to study and share more. Servants and servers allow for the word to increase because they give physically so that others can get spiritual gain. As we all seek to be servants I the kingdom of God think of how much the word will increase around us!
    MORE faithful
    MORE servants
    MORE word

  29. v3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

GOD deserved the glory and honor for all things.
Without HIM , We could do nothing!

HE WILL fill with HIS SPIRIT, and wisdom all we have to do is ask .
Love HIM with all our strength , heart ,soul and mind.
We can PRAISE HIM with our lives work and humbly serve HIM. THANK YOU JESUS

  30. The caption for this chapter in the MSG says “The Word of God Prospered”. Even though some were still not happy that the word of God was prospering and were scheming to stop it, they couldn’t because even they were drawn to these men like Stephen, full of faith and the Holy Spirit. In these last days, some will come willingly and some won’t be able to discern how or why; but, they will feel that attraction, that drawing, that need in their spirit to find Jesus.

  31. Seven men !!!! 4. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. Acts 2 : 42 5. And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Ste’-phen, a man full of faith and of the Ho’-ly Ghost, and Phil’-ip, and Proch’-o-rus, and Ni-ca’-nor, and Ti’-mon, and Par’- me-nas, and Nic’-o-las a proselyte of An’-ti-och: 6. Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid there hands on them. Acts 1 : 24 7. And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Je-ru’-sa-lem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith. John 12 : 42 8. And Ste’-phen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. 9. Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Lib’-er-tines, and Cy-re’-ni-ans, and Al-ex-an’-dri-ans, and of them of Ci-li’-ci-a and of A’-sia, disputing with Ste’-phen. Hallelujah !!!!

  32. Love for the deceived

    Acts 7:60
Then falling on his knees, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them!” Having said this, he fell asleep.

It would appear that God answered this prayer in regards to Saul. He would later be converted and write more than half of the New Testament.

  33. 10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

…because he was not speaking from his own wisdom and spirit, but of God’s. Our wisdom and spirit is limited, but when we put ourselves aside and let God work through us, great things happen.
