Acts 15

1 And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.

2 When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.

3 And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.

4 And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them.

5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.

6 And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.

7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;

9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

12 Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them.

13 And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:

14 Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.

15 And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,

16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:

17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.

18 Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.

19 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:

20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

21 For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.

22 Then pleased it the apostles and elders with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas and Silas, chief men among the brethren:

23 And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia.

24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:

25 It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

26 Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

27 We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.

28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

30 So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle:

31 Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.

32 And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.

33 And after they had tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles.

34 Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.

35 Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.

36 And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.

37 And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.

38 But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.

39 And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;

40 And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.

41 And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.

    1. To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

    7. A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

    Sometimes it’s best just to close your mouth and listen for a while.

  2. Being Fair.

    28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
    No circumcision required for the gentiles. Why??? God does not want to place a stumbling block in front of a new babe. That is why at the POFW church you will see a little bit of everything. What do I mean??? It does not mean that we have lower our standards of sainthood, but at the same time we must not place an unimportant stumbling block like our standards on a new babe. We must wait until God reveals the truth of Holiness, set apart, to them and allow them to make that step by themselves. We must be prepared to answer questions with the scriptures. Like 1 Cor 11:15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. Deuteronomy 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God. We must instruct when they ask why we do what we do. I pray the revelation of God’s way its revealed to all IN JESUS NAME AMEN.

  3. It is good to have people in your lives to guide you and direct you to God and not man. When questions arise the man of god is who we should go for answers. God has placed him there to instruct us as to what God wants.

  4. In reading this chapter it brought to my mind something else that my sister shared with the ladies from their church this past weekend. There is a time to be still as Psalm 37:7 NLT says “Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.” Psalm 46:10 MSG also says “Attention, all! See the marvels of God! He plants flowers and trees all over the earth, Bans war from pole to pole, breaks all the weapons across his knee. “Step out of the traffic! Take a long, loving look at me, your High God, above politics, above everything.” Same verse AMP “Let be and be still, and know (recognize and understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth!” Sometimes we can silence the opposition by simply being still and letting God be God.

    8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;

    9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

    Peter rose up over this dispute to remind them that the Holy Ghost has fell on the Gentiles. When we see the issue, this was a requirement of the law, not a requirement of the new testament church or proof the Holy Ghost is upon them. We must understand what God expects from us today we must have a circumcision of the heart not of the body. We must be filled with love for all people. Proof of the Holy Ghost is the evidence of speaking in tongues!

  6. The gospel of Barnabas:
    MORE humility

    Acts 15:39 (KJV Strong’s)
    39 And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;

    Contention – g3948. παροξυσμός paroxysmos; from 3947 (“paroxysm”); incitement (to good), or dispute (in anger): — contention, provoke unto.
    AV (2) – contention … so sharp 1, to provoke unto + g1519 1;
    an inciting, incitement irritation

    From the root word Paraoxysm which means along side and ACID

    Contention eats up, and destroys everything it touches. Like sulfuric acid on a beef steak it sizzles, and wears away at it.

    Here Baranabas, the son of prophecy, asks Paul if John Mark could accompany them.

    Acts 15:38 (Amplified Bible – AMP)
    38 But Paul did not think it best to have along with them the one who had quit and deserted them in Pamphylia and had not gone on with them to the work.

    So Barnabas got mad, left Paul, and too John Mark anyway. In chronological order this is the last we ever hear of Barnabas. Yet Paul, and Silas go and do the work of the Lord.

    Barnabas reveals through his actions it stopped being about the kingdom, and about Barnabas. He began in the spirit but soon left off in the flesh.

    “Well Barnabas was just looking out for his friend! I mean he was still in the right, he was still ministering! Right?!”

    Proverbs 13:10 (KJV Strong’s)
    10 Only by pride cometh contention:
    but with the well advised is wisdom.

    Barnabas had somehow become a victim of pride.

    Proverbs 18:6 (KJV Strong’s)
    6 A fool’s lips enter into contention,
    and his mouth calleth for strokes.

    Contention- h7379. רִיב rîyḇ; or רִב rib; from 7378; a contest (personal or legal): — + adversary, cause, chiding, contend(-tion), controversy, multitude (from the margin), pleading, strife, strive(-ing), suit.

    strife, controversy, disputestrife, quarreldispute, controversy, case at law

    What does God think about contention?

    Proverbs 6:16-19 (KJV Strong’s)
    16 These six things doth the Lord hate:
    yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
    17 A proud look, a lying tongue,
    and hands that shed innocent blood,
    18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations,
    feet that be swift in running to mischief,
    19 A false witness that speaketh lies,
    and he that soweth DISCORD among brethren.

    The word discord here means strife, CONTENTION

    This is also the last time we hear of John Mark chronologically.

    CONTENTION eats like an acid destroying all involved.

    The answer. MORE humility

    If contention comes by pride then unity comes through humility.

    1 Peter 5:5 (Weymouth New Testament)
    5 In the same way you younger men must submit to your elders; and all of you must gird yourselves with humility towards one another, for God sets Himself against the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

    Unity, submission, and humility walk hand in hand.

  7. RELIGIOUS DISPUTES AND PREJUDICES

    7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
    8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;
    9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

    The song says “Red, Yellow, Black and White ALL are precious in HIS sight”. For decades this has been a challenge in many areas of the world. Even recently with the contentions in the UNITED States of America. Obviously the greatest need is a revival of the UNITED part.

    Anyone baptized in the name of JESUS is baptized into Christ and at the completion of the New Birth process following REPENTANCE, BAPTSM in the name of JESUS, the gift of the HOLY GHOST is given by GOD. The HOLY GHOST is evidenced when we speak in tongues or languages that we do not understand, as they did on the Day of Pentecost 50 days following the death of JESUS on the Cross at Calvary.

    Most religious disputes arise over the requirements of salvation. Most prejudices arise as the result of pride and personal opinion and are usually founded on fictions and not facts.

    PREJUDICES – preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience: English prejudice against foreigners.
    • dislike, hostility, or unjust behavior deriving from unfounded opinions: accusations of racial prejudice.

    In the Church we seek and need UNITY. The promise of the Holy Ghost is to “everyone that the LORD our GOD shall call”. Lets celebrate Global revival while protecting local UNITY of the nationalities that GOD sends to The Pentecostals of Fort Worth. Remember we are all saved by GRACE through FAITH and FAITH without WORKS is dead. There will be spiritual, emotional, physical and natural conversions or changes as the result of conversion to Christ as we become NEW Creatures or Creations in Christ JESUS.

  8. so that the rest of humanity might seek the LORD, including the Gentiles— all those I have called to be mine. The LORD has spoken— (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭15‬:‭17‬ NLT)

    Saved by his grace and mercy. He saved not only the Jews and Greek but remembered me.

  9. Paul and Barnabas were chosen because of their integrity and testimony to travel from city to city to declare the miracles and good things that God had done, including the gospel being shared to the Gentile nation, as well as, the Jewish nation. They were even appointed to address the Pharisee Council regarding unnecessary restrictions being placed on the Gentiles. God gave them favor and brought unity to the situation.

    They were able to bring peace to a situation that could have erupted into total destruction of the Gentiles faith in God, but because God granted Peter wisdom in the words that he spoke to bring resolution, not confusion. We must guard our words carefully and use the wisdom that God gives us to bring resolutions to peoples lives, not confusion.

    Lord thank you for your grace and mercy and thank you for the HOLY GHOST!!

  11. iLove to eat more Word

    “Got Pork?”
    Acts 15:5 “But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.”

    What did the law of Moses say about pork? Leviticus 11:7 “And the pig, because it parts the hoof and is cloven-footed but does not chew the cud, is unclean to you. 8 You shall not eat any of their flesh, and you shall not touch their carcasses; they are unclean to you.”

    It is said by Jewish Rabbis that there are possibly around 613 Jewish laws that originate from the law of Moses. Here in the early church, there were certain of the Pharisees which believed that tried to convince the Gentile believers that they were under the bondage of these 613 Jewish laws…”No more pork chops for you!” However, instead of the Apostles agreeing and forcing these Gentiles into the bondage of the law, there were five leaders who took the stand to defend these pork on the fork, swine in mine, chops on the blocks Gentiles. Peter spoke (see verse 7), Barnabas spoke (see verse 12), Paul spoke (see verse 12), James spoke (see verse 13), and the Holy Ghost spoke (see verse 28).

    What did they speak? They all confirmed what each other said and they commanded these Pharisee believers to leave the Gentiles alone. They gave the Gentiles their list of don’ts and it was a lot shorter than the 613 laws from the law of Moses. verse:28 “For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.”

    So, can someone throw More chops on the grill? (I’ll take a hamburger please)

    Peter had to make it clear that this word of God its for everyone it doesn’t matter what color , or status in life your in this truth is for everyone!

    11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

    I may not be worthy but I thank God all shall be saved and I was able to receive his grace and mercy.

    Amen! We are not perfect and never will be but that shouldn’t stop us from being more like him in every way! We have to love the things that he loves, hate sin the way he does (not the sinner but sin) !! Nobody is perfect but that is why we ought to focus on God and not on everybody else’s flaws!!! When we focus on God we understand our purpose for being here, have more faith, become stronger and not get defeated by the little things…the enemy knows our weakness and is always going to tempt us but that’s why it’s so important to always stay in tune with God. Gaurd yourself from evil things….don’t leave any room for the enemy to get inside your heart but pray without ceasing!!!!

  15. Acts 15:24 we have heard that some went out from us without our authorization and disturbed you troubling your minds by what they said. So we all agreed to choose some men and send them to you with our dear friend Arnabas and Paul men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  16. 39 And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;

    40 And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.

    In birth of the 1st episitle we see spliting up and when choosing sides cause contention among the bretheren. Barnabas was Paul’s friend who worked with him previously in the gospel. Paul needing another to go with him chose Silas because he was recommended by the brethren. A very similar thing happended when Lot went his way from Abraham. Their was contention between the workers belonging to either sibling. The same contention that Joseph’s brothers had for him when they sold him to the Egyptians. We have to be careful that we don’t “depart asunder from one another” under contention.

  17. “And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us”. This is still true today, God (Jesus) knows ones heart, and God will give his Spirit accordingly. This is one reason why prayer is so important, sometimes it is for another, however sometimes it for self. Help me Jesus, too see as you see, and too hear as you hear. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

    Romans 15: 9-11
    “And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name.”
    “And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people.”
    “And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people.”

    I Glorify you God for your Mercy!
    I Rejoice in you!
    I Praise you!
    Thank You JESUS for taking us out of a world of darkness, and writting your name upon our hearts.

  19. 8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;

    9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

    How do our hearts became pure before God? According to this scripture, our faith helps to purify our hearts. For when we don’t look at this world from our own earthly and look at them through the spiritual eyes that God gives us, it becomes a difficult task to turn away from God when your faith in God is strong. For if you believe he can do many things in your life then why would you turn away?

  20. 11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

    We must believe MORE. We will have grace. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Yet his grace is sufficient for me. Thank you Jesus for your grace.

  21. 9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

    God is concerned with every aspect of our lives but He is not giving gifts according to our nationality but our hearts. Notice I did not say culture because once filled with the Holy Ghost the culture of our lives must alter to fit the kingdom and not our traditions.

  22. There will be those that rise up just to cause division. Our God has given us the strength to remain in unity. The enemy will try to throw everything he has at you. At that moment when things begin to go crazy, we must remember God’s word and not fear. We are mighty through Christ.

  23. 38 But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.

    You faith is not measured but proven by your work.

    James 2:17
    17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
    18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

    Paul knew that if the man couldn’t work with then that he wouldn’t be there for them when things got tough. God is looking for workers.

  24. 21st century food for idols

    Acts 15:19-20
    Therefore it is my judgment that we do not trouble those who are turning to God from among the Gentiles, but that we write to them that they abstain from things contaminated by idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood.

    What are you eating? The analogy for spiritual food is often used in the Bible. Give us our daily bread…jesus-the bread of life. Jesus is the substance for all life and we need substance for our souls.

    The custom here was to abstain from any food that was donated to the temple or sacrificed to the gods. This food was often eaten. They found association with such practice caused weaker saints to fall into heresy. Moreover, it was a de stable practice in Jewish opinion.

    Today, our food for idols is encountered a lot with what we hear and watch. We must be careful what we chose to dine on mentally.

  25. At the meeting, after a long discussion, Peter stood and addressed them as follows: “Brothers, you all know that God chose me from among you some time ago to preach to the Gentiles so that they could hear the Good News and believe. God knows people’s hearts, and he confirmed that he accepts Gentiles by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as he did to us. He made no distinction between us and them, for he cleansed their hearts through faith. (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭15‬:‭7-9‬ NLT)

    There will be many people that we come into contact with starting the new building but we can’t get judge mental on who may attend. Gods word and spirit is for everyone

  26. The church sent the delegates to Jerusalem, and they stopped along the way in Phoenicia and Samaria to visit the believers. They told them—much to everyone’s joy—that the Gentiles, too, were being converted. When they arrived in Jerusalem, Barnabas and Paul were welcomed by the whole church, including the apostles and elders. They reported everything God had done through them. (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭15‬:‭3-4‬ NLT)

    This passage of scripture shows the importance of encouraging each other with our words. Let Jesus out! Share what you have seen and heard. 

    So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. (‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭11‬ NLT)

  27. 9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

    There arose a greaet dispute over circumsicion which is the cutting away of flesh… Should they follow the laws of Moses or not? When it comes down to what matters most to God is the state of your heart. To cut away from carnality and sin. He is the one that circumsies our hearts and purifies us. He is in the business of hearts, people that will love and serve Him.

    But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. Romans 2:29

  28. We have to work at keeping the peace and accepting others to gather more souls. If we try to put all the commandments on the new people of the church there won’t be a small disturbance, but a big one. We have to make sure we all work together to gather the new souls. Giving them small steps and few commandments at a time to encourage their growth.

  29. Without question the LORD has called us to be witnesses of HIS NAME.
    RELY on the name that is above every name.
    JESUS

  30. 8)And God , which knowest hearts, bare them witnesses, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us ;

    Thank you Jesus for the Holy Ghost !

  31. Consolation

    30 So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle:

    31 Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.

    That word for “consolation” is related to the came Greek word used for the Comforter. It means essentially, “help, encouragement, comfort, refreshing.” Every time we come to hear the Word, we can receive that consolation of the Lord in His divine comfort. And after not only receiving the Holy Ghost but living by daily being filled, we invite the comfort and power of the Lord to accompany us not only at the hearing of the Word but wherever we go.

    John 14:16-18
    16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

    17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

    18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
