Acts 19

1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

7 And all the men were about twelve.

8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

9 But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

10 And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:

12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.

15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

21 After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.

22 So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season.

23 And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.

24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;

25 Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth.

26 Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:

27 So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.

28 And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

29 And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.

30 And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not.

31 And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre.

32 Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused: and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.

33 And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people.

34 But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

35 And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

36 Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.

37 For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess.

38 Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.

39 But if ye enquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.

40 For we are in danger to be called in question for this day’s uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse.

41 And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.

  1. Impleader is a procedural device before trial in which one party joins a third party into a lawsuit because that third party is liable to an original defendant.

38/im glad that the church works things out when in trohbles w the people of God Jesus through the pastor.

  2. Paul was on a mission!!!!

At this their anger boiled, and they began shouting, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” Soon the whole city was filled with confusion. Everyone rushed to the amphitheater, dragging along Gaius and Aristarchus, who were Paul’s traveling companions from Macedonia. Paul wanted to go in, too, but the believers wouldn’t let him. Some of the officials of the province, friends of Paul, also sent a message to him, begging him not to risk his life by entering the amphitheater. Inside, the people were all shouting, some one thing and some another. Everything was in confusion. In fact, most of them didn’t even know why they were there. (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭19‬:‭28-32‬ NLT)

Despite of the uproar that was in the city, Paul didn’t care. He was KINGDOM minded!!
His mission was souls. No matter the obstacles, he seem them as stepping stones to fulfill his calling that was placed on his life. I love reading about his faith in GOD. You never once read that he feared the opposition. He continued in the faith, he didn’t let his guard down, he kept doing the will of The Lord. Fear brings torment, FAITH brings peace!! Paul knew that The Lord was with him and on his side. As the scripture says ” if GOD be for us, who can be against us?” Our mission, the city of Fort Worth. No matter what POFW faces, we’re moving forward. Opposition is only stepping stones that lead us closer to our destiny!!

GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST!!!!

  3. I 17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

The believers came and confessed to God their sins and burned their curious arts. The best way to get rid of some sins is to burn them.
Notice that after this the word of God not only grew, but it prevailed. That means the Word overcome all problems that came their way.
The Word will prevail if we believe in The Word of God!!!!

  4. 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

Everyone needs to be baptized, and everyone also needs to receive the Holy Spirirt in their lives! For that is the spirit of God that dwells in us and we need it if we are to be saved and go to heaven. For the bible says we need to be born of the water and the spirit!

  5. iLove to eat More Word

    “The Cost of Repentance”
18 Many who became believers confessed their sinful practices. 19A number of them who had been practicing sorcery brought their incantation books and burned them at a public bonfire. The value of the books was several million dollars. 20So the message about the Lord spread widely and had a powerful effect.

The true price of repentance is found in this text. These people did not sell their magic books nor did they stash them in their attics, they burned several million dollars worth of books. Wow!

When I first came to the Lord, I had a lot of stuff (from music CDs to clothes) that went up in smoke. I’ve never wanted it back nor regretted losing those several hundred of dollars.

Question. If you had a million dollars worth of magic books would you burn them?

  6. Commissioned to use the name

    Acts 19:13-16
But also some of the Jewish exorcists, who went from place to place, attempted to name over those who had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, “I adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.” Seven sons of one Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. And the evil spirit answered and said to them, “I recognize Jesus, and I know about Paul, but who are you?” And the man, in whom was the evil spirit, leaped on them and subdued all of them and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

This passage shows us that God doesn’t have to act when people use his name. These men called upon the name of Jesus and it was disastrous. We have to be commissioned by Christ through the anointing to do his work.

  7. MORE PERSUASIVE

26 Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:

The call of GOD is to reach, teach and preach to the LOST. Those that do not know of JESUS have the greatest need of JESUS. These are the people that attract GOD. May GOD help us to be MORE PERSUASIVE to those that do not know JESUS that we may tell HIS story to turn the lost away from idols.

  8. MORE KNOWINGLY

    Acts 19:15 (KJV Strong’s)
15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

Acts 19:15 (Wuest – The New Testament: An Expanded Translation)
15 And the pernicious spirit answering said to them, This Jesus I recognize and with this Paul I am acquainted. But as for you, who are you?

    Acts 19:15 (Weymouth New Testament)
15 “Jesus I know,” the evil spirit answered, “and Paul I have heard of, but who are you?”

The first word know is g1097. γινώσκω ginōskō; a prolonged form of a primary verb; to “know” (absolutely) in a great variety of applications and with many implications (as follow, with others not thus clearly expressed): — allow, be aware (of), feel, (have) know(-ledge), perceived, be resolved, can speak, be sure, understand.

The second word know is g1987. ἐπίσταμαι epistamai; apparently a middle voice of 2186 (with 3563 implied); to put the mind upon, i.e. comprehend, or be acquainted with: — know, understand.

The first word speaks of a close relationship at one time, and the second speaks of an abrupt acquaintance.

The demon didn’t always know Paul. He got to know him through his submission to the Lord. He operated in the power of God. He had no relationship with Paul, but understood that Paul was a vessel used by God.

Just like demon possession exists today the enemy is only copying God. The truth is we need to be possessed by the Lord! When we yield to him our everything he will live this life through us as a vehicle to accomplish his will.

It wasnt that they knew Paul because of Paul. They knew Paul because Paul knew Jesus!

  9. 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

If we would take the time to ask one person per day our harvest would be picked up faster. Lord you know the population of Tarrant County give us BOLDNESS to ask everyone we come across, send BOLD LABORERS with the knowledge of the truth, ONE GOD, ONE FAITH, ONE BAPTISM!!!! We see the harvest is white already and we need to have the strength and clarity. Thank you Jesus for giving is TODAY THE EXACT WORDS WE CAN USE TO PICK UP THE HARVEST!!!!! YOU ARE AWESOME AND I PRAISE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART!!!! In JESUS Name AMEN

  10. “And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.” They were fearful as their livelihood and idols were in question. The deceiver knows he has no hope, as such he will attempt to cause confusion. This is all the more reason why one must read the word of God (Jesus) and heed the man of God. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

    More;

32 Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused: and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.

  11. 8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

9 But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

The seed falls on 4 different types of soil. Not ever seed is going to produce the fruit intended because the soil has not been prepared, or rejects the seed. We must learn to know when it is time to dust off our feet and move on, and when it is time to continuing working with the seed for growth.

  12. 34. But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

We all know that if a room full of us, all with one voice, about the space of two minutes cried out Great is Jesus of Nazareth, the whole place would explode! Can you imagine two hours?

These people cried out about Diana for two hours and nothing happened…that should have let them know it was a dead statue with no power!

  13. 18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

29 And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.

It is time to burn all sin out of your life, for where there is sin and no God there will be great confusion! Sin will try to creep in and control your life, but if you confess it to God he will forgive you but after that you have to burn it out of your life and never
    turn back!

  14. Acts 19:1 while Apollos was at Corinth Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples and asked them. Did you received the Holy Spirit when you believed? They answered no we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit. So Paul asked then what baptism did you receive? John’s baptism they replied. Paul said John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him that is in Jesus. On hearing this they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

  15. 19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

Sometimes you just have to burn everything that gets in the way and focus your attention back on where it should be. Everyone gets distracted but that doesn’t mean we have to stay thar way!

  16. Verse 2 MSG “The first thing he said was, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed? Did you take God into your mind only, or did you also embrace him with your heart? Did he get inside you?” “We’ve never even heard of that—a Holy Spirit? God within us?” Good question……many are still in this stage; they have only taken in the Word in their minds; but have yet to embrace Him and let Him in.

So many tend to hear it and in not understanding it, they talk bad about it. This not only brings confusion to them; but, whoever is around them too. Verse 32 KJV “Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused: and the MORE part knew not wherefore they were come together. Lord I pray that you open up our minds, open up our understanding, wisdom and knowledge to who you really are……as the end of verse 4 MSG says “…..you’re ready now for the real thing, for Jesus.”

  17. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. (‭Acts‬ ‭19‬:‭5-6‬ KJV)

People are waiting on us to share what we have seen and heard. We have the keys to unlock the door, the bread of Life to feed a hungry soul. Let Jesus Out!

He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. (‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭15‬ KJV)

  18. vss. 4- 5 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unti the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is on Christ Jesus.
When they heard this they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Luke revealed JESUS’ directions to preach remission of sins through HIS NAME
” And that repentance and remisssion of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem ” Luke 24:47

What actions to take to fulfill GOD’S PLAN OF SALVATION ?
IM so glad you asked . This wonderful plan of salvation involves repentance and remission of sins through baptism in water in the name of JESUS CHRIST. PETER FULFILLED by obeying JESUS’ own commands. ( Acts 2:38)

  19. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
Its same holy then as it is now some may say the holy ghost is not for today but its a promise a gift from God to whomever wants it.

  20. 17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

More demonstration will cause people to get a fear for the spiritual things and kingdom of God. We ought to pray that God allows His power to come in this revival times that people may see and fear The Lord.

  21. Every High Thing

28 And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

There are different accounts of groups of people grappling with the “high things” in their lives that were exalted above God. For some it was their theology, for others improper spiritual involvement, and others their treasure. Some cast down their idols, others raised them up further. The church must go ready to engage in spiritual warfare against idolatry as well as in helping others untangle themselves from that lifestyle. The Old Testament church was called to tear down the high places in their land, regardless of who built them; our region of Fort Worth has plenty of high places left, and we must go in Appstolic authority to tear down the devil’s strongholds and help free the captives who have lived in the bondage of idolatry for far too long.

    Numbers 33:51-53
    51 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye are passed over Jordan into the land of Canaan;

52 Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places:

53 And ye shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein: for I have given you the land to possess it.

  22. A group of Jews was traveling from town to town casting out evil spirits. They tried to use the name of the Lord Jesus in their incantation, saying, “I command you in the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, to come out!” Seven sons of Sceva, a leading priest, were doing this. But one time when they tried it, the evil spirit replied, “I know Jesus, and I know Paul, but who are you?” Then the man with the evil spirit leaped on them, overpowered them, and attacked them with such violence that they fled from the house, naked and battered. (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭19‬:‭13-16‬ NLT)

We must be born again to receive HIS power. This illustration shows how the people knew the name was important but they really didn’t know how important.

  23. 11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:
12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

We have this power, yet we don’t brlieve. If you heard that someone put in your bank account $1000000. You would go and find out that it was real. But we have the power to do great things. Yet we don’t. Why ? It is that much easier to believe in one million dollars than it is to believe in power from on high? My God is awesome and through the power of the Holy Ghost we have that power.

  24. Acts 19:6New Living Translation (NLT)
6 Then when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other tongues[a] and prophesied.

    Acts 19:6Amplified Bible (AMP)
6 And as Paul laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them; and they spoke in [foreign, unknown] tongues (languages) and prophesied.

Thank you Jesus for your Spirit!!!

  25. MORE Disciples Gathered
And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. And all the men were about twelve. (‭Acts‬ ‭19‬:‭1-7‬ KJV).
