Acts 20

1 And after the uproar was ceased, Paul called unto him the disciples, and embraced them, and departed for to go into Macedonia.

2 And when he had gone over those parts, and had given them much exhortation, he came into Greece,

3 And there abode three months. And when the Jews laid wait for him, as he was about to sail into Syria, he purposed to return through Macedonia.

4 And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus.

5 These going before tarried for us at Troas.

6 And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days.

7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

8 And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together.

9 And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.

10 And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him.

11 When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed.

12 And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted.

13 And we went before to ship, and sailed unto Assos, there intending to take in Paul: for so had he appointed, minding himself to go afoot.

14 And when he met with us at Assos, we took him in, and came to Mitylene.

15 And we sailed thence, and came the next day over against Chios; and the next day we arrived at Samos, and tarried at Trogyllium; and the next day we came to Miletus.

16 For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost.

17 And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church.

18 And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons,

19 Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:

20 And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house,

21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

22 And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there:

23 Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.

24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

25 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.

26 Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men.

27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.

28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.

31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.

32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

33 I have coveted no man’s silver, or gold, or apparel.

34 Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me.

35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

36 And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all.

37 And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul’s neck, and kissed him,

38 Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship.

  1. 28. Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

He bought us with the rarest currency that ever existed and now we belong to Him. We are His People, it’s His Church, and while we could never repay Him, we can live our life in a way that shows we are trying to.

  2. You must work your assignment.

But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.

“So guard yourselves and God’s people. Feed and shepherd God’s flock—his church, purchased with his own blood —over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as elders. (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭20‬:‭24, 28‬ NLT)

Working in God’s kingdom is never done. We all have been assigned to do something. You are needed to further His kingdom. Don’t lose focus, and stay the course. It’s not about your needs, it’s about souls!

  3. v35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus , how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

This is a beautiful truth that brings great blessing into a person life.
To GOD BE ALL THE GLORY, the POFW is a giving church. Not only do we pray for our community but we have added works to our faith and prayers .
Therefore, both the giver and receiver ate blessed.

  4. GIVING ALL

GIVING ALL is the key to successful living in the Kingdom of GOD. The Apostle Paul identifies some traits or evidence of an individual that is GIVING ALL.

    1. Humility – the quality or state of not thinking you are better than other people : the quality or state of being humble (Not my will but yours be done LORD)
    2. Tears – an act of weeping or grieving (Heartbroken by people we LOVE)
    3. Temptations – a strong urge or desire to have or do something: something that causes a strong urge or desire to have or do something and especially something that is bad, wrong, or unwise (Repent from sin, temptation is common, sin is deadly)
    4. Kept Back NOTHING – Share everything you know to reach a lost soul.
    5. Testify to EVERYONE – to talk and answer questions about something especially in a court of law while formally promising that what you are saying is true: to talk about or say (something) in an honest and confident way: to show that something is true or real : to give proof of something

Today lets examine our hearts and lives to see if we are GIVING ALL to JESUS and HIS Kingdom, to do HIS Will.

JESUS today YOU will SAVE me.

  5. Life, and life MORE abundantly

    Acts 20:24 (KJV Strong’s)
24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

    Mark 8:35 (KJV Strong’s)
35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.

    John 10:10 (KJV Strong’s)
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

The key to life on this earth is death. Abundant living comes after repentance. Once we have crucified our flesh we allow Jesus to live life through us. Paul said he would finish his course with joy because he did not count his life dear to himself.

  6. DO NOT BE DORMID

I guess we could make fun of this and say this is what you get for falling asleep during the speaking of the word; but really how many so called Christians now a day fall dormid in their spirit!!! Seat there without emotion, frozen in a state of lathargy without a Praise in their hearts or Lips!!! There is ALWAYS something to thank our Lord for!!! When we become DORMID all we have left is to fall. Yes!!! Fall not only from His Grace but to the DEATH OF SIN!!! AWAKE BROTHERS AND SISTERS!!!! AWAKE FROM THE SLEEP OF THE MONOTONY OF THIS WORLD!!!! AWAKE TO THE LOVE, JOY, PEACE OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR CHRIST JESUS!!!!

  7. 28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

Oneness verse: it mentions Holy Ghost and God, but by name he never mentions Jesus. The revelation that they had of Jesus name as we do understand that Jesus is God, led him to state in the last part, “to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood”. God bleeding? Unless he was referring to Jesus being God. We all know God is a spirit, he can’t not bleed, unless he understood Jesus as God himself.

  8. Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. (‭Acts‬ ‭20‬:‭28‬ NKJV)

Bought by the blood of Jesus!

For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. (‭Acts‬ ‭20‬:‭29‬ NKJV)

Don’t be a wolf and try to destroy the church. But be a prayer warrior and get on board with us and be a wolf killer.

  9. 9 And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.

10 And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him.

Paul preached long and was trying to reach this people, it said he had much to say to this people. There will always be great exhortation that needs done and all ministers feel as Paul, I must take care of this today.
Help us Lord understand we must work while it is day and do our best to accomplish the work of God.

  10. iLove to eat More Word

“No More = The Ultimate Sacrifice”

Acts 20:25 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face “no more.”

Paul was willing to pay the ultimate price for following Jesus. Every city he went to someone was there warning him in the Holy Ghost that imminent incarceration (and ultimately death) was around the corner.

Acts 20:22 And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there:

23 Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.

24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

Are we willing to pay the ultimate price for the Gospel? Many turn to Jesus while in prison to become free, but how many of us who are free would turn to Jesus knowing it would cost us our freedom and cost us our lives?

    I

  11. “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Paul had given of himself, as did Jesus (God). One that will give of time, talent, or treasure will be blessed. One should be thankful for all the Lord hath done, and pray for the man of God. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  12. 36 And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all.

Prayer is fundamental to any believer. It is the way to communicate with God. We as belivers cannot possibly live without prayer. You can get all the studies and knowledge that this world has to offer but prayer is the only way to connect to the one who can do it all. Recognizing the vitality of it, the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray. We are told also to pray without ceasing. On the walk with God of any believer we must learn to get a hold of God and have that communication/relationship with Him.

  13. And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

Gods plan is not always our plan. We must know and realize that God is the author of us. We must trust him to do what he wants to do in our lives.

  14. Acts 20:24
But I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God.

A man with a purpose. Paul’s desire was to spread the gospel for the salvation of souls. It should be our desire to reach those around. We need to want that more than anything. In a thousand years, the only things that will matter is what we did for the cause of Christ in this life.

  15. Finish The Course

24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

We must finish the course the Lord has put before us. More than just that of the basics of faith, we each have a unique purpose to fulfill in the effectual working of the Body of Christ. Just because a storm rages or the trials seem too hard doesn’t mean it’s time to cast aside the calling and work the Lord has for us.

    Ephesians 6:13-17
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

    14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

    15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God

  16. But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God. “And now I know that none of you to whom I have preached the Kingdom will ever see me again. I declare today that I have been faithful. If anyone suffers eternal death, it’s not my fault, for I didn’t shrink from declaring all that God wants you to know. (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭20‬:‭24-27‬ NLT)

This is the attitude we need to strive for.. it should become second nature to us speaking truth into people’s lives. We need to have a hunger to reach the lost, a passion to change not just this city but the world…. Whose world have you changed today?

  17. Verse 25 KJV “And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no MORE.” Also verse 38 KJV “Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no MORE. And they accompanied him unto the ship.” Both of these verses speak of something/someone that will not be present any longer. God is giving/granting us the opportunity this day to be saved; do not reject this….because for some it will be no MORE.

Verse 35 KJV “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is MORE blessed to give than to receive.” Same verse AMP “In everything I have pointed out to you [by example] that, by working diligently in this manner, we ought to assist the weak, being mindful of the words of the Lord Jesus, how He Himself said, It is MORE blessed (makes one happier and MORE [e]to be envied) to give than to receive.” We are blessed to be a blessing…MORE and MORE.

  18. 29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

  19. Acts 20:18-27 AMP Amplified
18 And when they arrived he said to them: You yourselves are well acquainted with my manner of living among you from the first day that I set foot in [the province of] Asia, and how I continued afterward,
    19 Serving the Lord with all humility in tears and in the midst of adversity (affliction and trials) which befell me, due to the plots of the Jews [against me];
20 How I did not shrink from telling you anything that was for your benefit and teaching you in public meetings and from house to house,
21 But constantly and earnestly I bore testimony both to Jews and Greeks, urging them to turn in repentance [[b]that is due] to God and to have faith in our Lord Jesus Christ [[c]that is due Him].
22 And now, you see, I am going to Jerusalem, bound by the [Holy] Spirit and obligated and compelled by the [convictions of my own] spirit, not knowing what will befall me there—
23 Except that the Holy Spirit clearly and emphatically affirms to me in city after city that imprisonment and suffering await me.
24 But none of these things move me; neither do I esteem my life dear to myself, if only I may finish my course with joy and the ministry which I have obtained from [which was entrusted to me by] the Lord Jesus, faithfully to attest to the good news (Gospel) of God’s grace (His unmerited favor, spiritual blessing, and mercy).
25 And now, observe, I perceive that all of you, among whom I have gone in and out proclaiming the kingdom, will see my face no more.
26 Therefore I testify and protest to you on this [our parting] day that I am clean and innocent and not responsible for the blood of any of you.
27 For I never shrank or kept back or fell short from declaring to you the whole purpose and plan and counsel of God.

No matter what we need to serve God at all times, whatever the circumstance is. He is worthy!!! Thank you Jesus for your wonderful greatness!! You are faithful and one true and only God and I worship you!!
    I love you Jesus!!

  20. More of his word

And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together. And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead. (‭Acts‬ ‭20‬:‭7-9‬ KJV)
Eutychus was seeking more about the holy one when he died. The more faith that was around him caused his life to be extended. More of JESUS means more faith.
