Acts 22

1 Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defence which I make now unto you.

2 (And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,)

3 I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.

4 And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.

5 As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.

6 And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me.

7 And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

8 And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.

9 And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.

10 And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do.

11 And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.

12 And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there,

13 Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.

14 And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.

15 For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.

16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

17 And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance;

18 And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me.

19 And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:

20 And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.

21 And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.

22 And they gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.

23 And as they cried out, and cast off their clothes, and threw dust into the air,

24 The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and bade that he should be examined by scourging; that he might know wherefore they cried so against him.

25 And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned?

26 When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what thou doest: for this man is a Roman.

27 Then the chief captain came, and said unto him, Tell me, art thou a Roman? He said, Yea.

28 And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born.

29 Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him.

30 On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them.

  1. 10 And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do…

    Asking Jesus

I thank the Lord that we can go to Him a question on what to do with our lives. Which way do we turn right or left? We dont know but we can come to Him and he will guide us to the right path. I dont want to go do things in this life that is comfortable but uncomfortable forJesus.
Thankyou Jesus. I love you my Savior.

  2. “You are much MORE”

And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do. (‭Acts‬ ‭22‬:‭10‬ KJV)

His GRACE allows us to not worry about the past and the failures that we have done. After neglecting him and loving evil. Just to get up and have a chance to keep going. And to not dwell on these failures for very long. He forgets it never looks at them again. He reaches his hand out with love and says “get up, let’s go”

He wants you Just get up and and do what your called to do. You are made to be MORE then what you can actually see yourself right now.

    You are much MORE.

  3. TESTIFY

22 And they gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.

GOD has Blessed every believer with their very own TESTIMONY of where GOD brought them from, what GOD brought them through, how GOD brought them out, when GOD kept them safe.

GOD gave each of us this wonderful and powerful tool of a testimony to expand HIS Kingdom. We are called, challenged and created to share our story with others. Some will believe and accept, others will doubt and reject, the acceptance or rejection is not in our hands, the LORD gives all the opportunity to hear. The response when we TESTIFY is wholly upon the hearer. We must simply TESTIFY!

Tell others what the LORD has done for YOU.

Thank you JESUS for the opportunity to TESTIFY.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iTestify
    iWork

  4. Verse 2 AMP “And when they heard that he addressed them in the Hebrew tongue, they were all the MORE quiet. And he continued,”. Same verse KJV “(And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the MORE silence: and he saith,)”. Same verse MSG “When they heard him speaking Hebrew, they grew even quieter. No one wanted to miss a word of this.”

We always have to be ready and walking testimonies. You may not realize it; but many around you are listening to what you say, what you do and how you react. Many are sitting still; but are wanting MORE and your testimony might be what they need to hear.

  5. 28 And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born.

29 Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him.

When we are born again, we are born free. and when we realize the devil has no hold on us because we are born free, he gets scared… haha. he cant hold us down!

  6. What a TESTIMONY Thank you Jesus for at the end of the battle the warrior although tired will always have a word of TESTIMONY !!!!! The battle rages on but I hold to HIS PROMISES. I SHALL LIVE BY THE POWER OF HIS HOLY GHOST PSALM 118:17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.
Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

  7. 15 For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.
16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Everything happeneds with a purpose everything we go through and every turn in our lives has a deeper meaning for why it happened to us. Good or bad, right or wrong we have to believe that everything we go through is a testimony, meant for something greater than just a test or trial. Others can benefit through our experiences and souls can be saved by the words of our testimonies. If we go through things with the wrong attitudes then we are not looking at the greater picture. Our ‘whoa is me’ attitudes can hinder us from sharing the story that might save someone’s soul!!!! We gotta keep liking at the bigger picture because there is MORE going on than the eye can see.

  8. Acts 22:8 (KJV Strong’s)
8 And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.

Lord – g2962. κύριος kyrios; from κῦρος kuros (supremacy); supreme in authority, i.e. (as noun) controller; by implication, Master (as a respectful title): — God, Lord, master, Sir.

Paul asked who are you God?

Then he answered I am Jesus!

It is no doubt that Paul was asking this question to the Lord. He looked up and saw the bright light. He was in awe, and he knew it was God.

  9. 10 And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do.

Choose carefully, what you ask of God. When I was younger I would pray Lord, I will do anything you ask of me if you will only help me pass this math test that I did not study for.

1 Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

Now, I am a man and understand more. I dot loosely promise things to the Lord. I am careful to ensure that what I say I will do, I will do. God holds us accountable for what we pledge; including monetarily. So, I encourage everyone to prayerfully consider what you promise God; He is listening.

  10. 21 And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.

These people still hated the Gentiles and did not believe God had allowed them in, but ,Paul was willing to stand and tell how God has delivered him.
We need to stand on what God has and is doing for us Thank God for his power and blessings.

  11. iLove to eat More Word

    “More Wisdom=Less Pain”

25 “And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned?”

Paul knew just what to say at just the right time to prevent unnecessary pain. They pulled out the belt and they were fixing to whoop his cushion when he asked a great question…”hey bro, are you sure you’re not making a mistake here?”

That is great wisdom from Paul. He not only knew the Jewish law, but he knew the Roman law as well.

    More wisdom=less pain

  12. 11 My companions led me by the hand into Damascus, because the brilliance of the light had blinded me.
The Lord may take stuff away from us that we say we can’t live with out, but really he’s taken it way so we can be closer to him. He takes away every distraction we have in our live so we can focus on is word on his path and his way! Most of our time we need God to take control of our life’s, you never know what he has planed for you!
14 “Then he said: ‘The God of our ancestors has chosen you to know his will and to see the Righteous One and to hear words from his mouth.
God has you life planed out for you to find! And when we get off track he helps us find his path! 🙂

  13. Acts 22:21
And He said to me, ‘Go! For I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’”

The word he avoided using until he couldn’t any more. He stated to all men up till this point. By using Gentiles he pricked the crowd in their fanaticism.

This would be like telling Westboro Baptist church that God called you to preach to homosexuals, feminists, and democrats.

  14. 19“‘But Lord,’ I argued, ‘they certainly know that in every synagogue I imprisoned and beat those who believed in you. 20 And I was in complete agreement when your witness Stephen was killed. I stood by and kept the coats they took off when they stoned him.’

21“But the Lord said to me, ‘Go, for I will send you far away to the Gentiles!’”

The Lord will put us where he wants use us. It may not be our plan, but it is his. It may be some location far away, or could be near by. Just be ready to testify about God to all.

  15. 15 “As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning.16 Then I remembered what the Lord had said: ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’17 So if God gave them the same gift as he gave us, who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could oppose God (NIV)

Reading this chapter reminded me of the song: I Believe I’ll Testify!
You never know when God is going to put you in a place to tell them about the goodness and miracles that God has performed in your life. We have to be a willing vessel to go and let God use us, less of us and more of JESUS!

  16. 15 For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.
16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord

We all have a testimony of what the Lord has done for us and through us. I remember a song that says, “God’s been good to me, oh God’s always been good. Tell everybody, tell everybody about Him. Tell everybody, everybody ought to know.” God has called us out from this world to be holy and separated from what we once lived in. He chose us to be His disciples and servants to proclaim of all the great things He has done for us! We don’t need a big fancy sermon, our testimony is great enough in telling others of how awesome our God is.

  17. 14 And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.

15 For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.

16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Everything we go through is for a reason, no matter how big or how small! God’s purpose is to always bring us out stronger than we were before, then we can be used as a testimony for others!

  18. 8 And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.
9 And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.
10 And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do.
11 And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.

Hallelujah! I can only imagine the glory of God how bright and white it is to where he could not see….God is the true light, the same yesterday, today, am tomorrow!!! That is why we should be walking under his will all the time when he tells us to do something no questions asked but just do it for obidience is better than sacrifice!!! Guide me into your steps Jesus for in you I trust! No matter what my valley shall be I know that you are with me always 🙂

  19. 15, “For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.”

When I read this chapter this morning, I thought, what a testimony Paul has. But just like Paul, we all have a testimony to share of what God has done in our lives.

Be a Witness and share your Testimony.
1 Peter 3:15, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts; and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”

  20. 14 And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.

15 For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.

Just like Paul we are also called to be witnesses unto men, unto our friends and family, our co-workers and people we come in contact with. We may not have a testimony like Paul’s, but God has given each of us an unique testimony, and we can use it to which an unique set of people God places in our lives. Our job is to be faithful to God and obey his word, and help to spread our testimony to the people that need it the most.

Psalms 119: 88 Quicken me after they lovingkindness, so I shall keep the testimony of thy mouth.

2 Corinthians 1:12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world and more abundantly to you-ward

  21. “And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee”. Paul was chosen by the Lord (Jesus), and became a witness. One that has received the Holy Ghost (Jesus) has also been chosen, and should also be a witness. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  22. 22 And they gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.
Don’t be afraid to share your testimony!

  23. 18 And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me.

We are called to be witnesses. What does a witness do? They testify. Some sorry about not knowing how to tell people about Jesus, or how to share and preach the gospel. The greatest tool The Lord has given us aside from His word is our very own testimony. What do I tell them about God? Well, what has He done for you? Tell then your story (testimony) everyone has one and many people are converted just to hear the miracle done in someone’s life. We have the power to share the light and tell how we have overcome by the blood of the lamb. What are we a witness of? What great things The Lord has done for us.

  24. And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth. For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard. (‭Acts‬ ‭22‬:‭14-15‬ KJV)

I shall be your witness unto all men. There should never be a time of feeling “rejection, loneliness, afraid, etc.” just “GO” and be that testimony unto all who surrounds you.

  25. Identity

Men will forget identity but God does not. Paul addressed those he was likely raised with, those who probably knew his family, some who may have once known him by name, yet now they saw him as only a stranger. Men will forget us, whether in the world or among God’s people as it seems Paul’s case was, but the Lord knew him even when he was afar off and remembered him. No matter where we are, who seems to have forgotten us or thought us to be something we’re not, God has not forgotten and is in control to make all situations work together for His glory.

    Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

  26. v3 I am verily a man which am a Jew , born in Tarsus, a city in Cilica, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day

My no means was Paul an ignorant man. Paul could have impressed them with his verbal skills, but he did not want the attention to be on his ability.
” And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God” 1 Corinthians 2:4-5

Our words should not point to how wise we are , but
    how EXCELLENT JESUS IS !!!
Wherever we serve in the body of JESUS CHRIST, let us gladly serve as HIS MINISTERS to the need of others.

  27. The people who wanted to kill Paul were probably either Zealots or the Essenes. The Essenes was a radicle group that formed during the 400 silent years that span between the two testaments. A brief descriotiin of then can be read in the article below.

MATTHEW 10 The Zealots were radical Jews who sought the violent overthrow of the Roman regime in Judea under the rallying cry “No king but God!” They came to prominence during the Jewish revolt against Rome in a.d. 66–73, but the roots of violent rebellion stretch back much further. While scholars debate whether there was a continuous, organized movement of insurrection throughout the first century a.d., it is at least interesting to note that some of the leaders of the uprising in a.d. 66 were direct descendants of men who had fought against Rome during the first century b.c. When Jesus advocated nonviolent resistance to enemies, he may have been directly opposing this kind of armed revolution.
The Essenes were another protest group in early Judaism. This faction most likely grew out of mid-second-century b.c. reform movements that arose during the Maccabean revolt. By the first century a.d. the Essenes were a significant force for renewal in Judaism. Like the Pharisees, they were concerned with purity and called for a strict adherence to the Law, although the two groups disagreed on particular points of interpretation and practice. The Essenes were noted for their ascetic tendencies, their nonparticipation in temple worship and their desire to isolate themselves in tight-knit communities. Some of the more radical Essenes who followed the so-called Teacher of Righteousness eventually gave up hope of renewal through normal channels and withdrew to the Judean wilderness to live together near the Dead Sea.

  28. Paul spoke to the people exhorting Lord’s excellent greatness. Sometimes when we exhort it causes others who are around us to become offended even exhibit great pride about what they have always done because it is the only thing they have known to do.

  29. If we could all have faith in what Jesus is telling us how different things would be. We all really just need to listen sometimes to what God is trying to tell us.
On our most recent iPray weekend, Eli walked in on me while I was praying and just listened. He told me while I was praying, “now just listen to God”
It was so beautiful that my 5 year old son tells me to just listen for God. Thank you Jesus for your word and thank you for my family and thank toy for my POFW FAMILY AND THANK YOU JESUS FOR WHAT YOU’RE DOING FOR MY FAMILY!!!!!

6 And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me.

I love you Jesus. Thank you for your beautiful words to live by.

  30. Acts 22
Paul’s testimony always amazes me. The man that never ment Jesus man in the flesh, to be used by God in the way that he was used. The zeal and devotion that he displayed for the things of God. I pray to have a double portions of Paul’s anointing over my life.

  31. Wow…..talk about being called to Ministry, and knowing exactly the will of God, and to hear his voice (CLEARLY). Hurry and get washed, and go be that witness……….
