1 Corinthians 8

1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.

2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.

5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)

6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

7 Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.

8 But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.

9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.

10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;

11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?

12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.

13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.

  1. For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many gods and many lords), (‭I Corinthians‬ ‭8‬:‭5‬ NKJV)

Their are many wanna be’s in this world. Different kind for Diffrent causes. Posers always front like they are and can do something they really can’t do they just act. I used to hate posers cause i knew they were fake and everyone around did the same. But once it came down to the heavy “dirty” work they were quick to run. Wernt who they say they were. Just fronting.

Their are many so called “gods” many people talk highly about their gods. They all claim to know the way to salvation and to perfect paradise. But when it comes to actually feeling love and a god that actually cares for you. Their “dead nothingness” runs even further they don’t do as they say they would do. Simply because they are fake and have nothing to offer.

But i know that my God is “really real” and is mighty to save. When I feel abandon And when i need him the most he loves me more then anything or anyone. You can feel him. He is the one true Living God he can do all things. He does not run from you and your trials but makes you a conquore so he may show his light. He isn’t fake. You’ll be a fool to not believe and trust in JESUS.

Poser – some body who’s just in for being looked at and wants to be apart of the show. But really ain’t nothing.

  2. Be careful in how you live!

But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ. (‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭8‬:‭12‬ KJV)

Many eyes are upon you, the Christian that you claim to be/live. One wrong word, move, or action that is made that leads to sin can come back and haunt you. “You say this…but you’re living a lie.” Everything always comes to light. Nothing can be hidden from GOD. As the scripture says…”your sin will find you out.” Why sin against God, against yourself, and others?

  3. 1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.

2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

“There is no proof of ignorance more common than conceit of knowledge. Much may be known, when nothing is known to good purpose. And those who think they know any thing, and grow vain thereon, are the least likely to make good use of their knowledge.” – Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary

  4. Verse 6 AMP “Yet for us there is [only] one God, the Father, Who is the Source of all things and for Whom we [have life], and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through and by Whom are all things and through and by Whom we [ourselves exist].” The end of verses 1-3 MSG says “…. We sometimes tend to think we know all we need to know to answer these kinds of questions—but sometimes our humble hearts can help us more than our proud minds. We never really know enough until we recognize that God alone knows it all.”

Verse 9 AMP “Only be careful that this power of choice (this permission and liberty to do as you please) which is yours, does not [somehow] become a hindrance (cause of stumbling) to the weak or overscrupulous [giving them an impulse to sin].”

Romans 11-13 MSG “Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don’t quit in hard times; pray all the harder. Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality.”

  5. 6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

To us, the Church of the living God, there is but one God and his name is Jesus Christ. The revelation of the oneness of the Godhead is something that all saints need to receive if we are going to become what God wants us to be. This is Christ in us the hope of glory, our hope is in Jesus Christ.
This says, Jesus Christ made all things and he also made us what we are.
We must have Jesus in us and we in him for us to be one. If we are to be one with him, we must believe the true oneness message.

  6. 2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

You might think you have everything under control. You might think that you know it all but have no knowledge of nothing. Control is nothing but an illusion. My daddy used to say what is the use to know much and master none, pick one thing and master it so you may use it to your benefit. Even those that have a lot of knowledge will receive more knowledge for Matt 13:11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. 2 Chronicles 1:12 Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like. Luke 8:10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.
All this scriptures show that the only knowledge and wisdom worth having is the one OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST GIVES TO US, BY HIS WORD.

  7. 3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

Can the world tell you love God? If we love Him, we will behave in a manner that represents Him; therefore people will know we are a child of the King. I have met people and wondered if they were satan’s minions by the way they acted and treated other people. On the opposite hand, I have met people who only after a few moments with them you know who they love and live for. I love God’s people. I appreciate being counted among the chosen.

  8. iLove to eat more Word

    More Love
But while knowledge makes us feel important, it is love that strengthens the church. (‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭8‬:‭1‬ NLT)
And when you sin against other believers by encouraging them to do something they believe is wrong, you are sinning against Christ. So if what I eat causes another believer to sin, I will never eat meat again as long as I live—for I don’t want to cause another believer to stumble. (‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭8‬:‭12-13‬ NLT)

Knowledge is very powerful, however the Bible says that knowledge puffs up. Knowledge of the word of God, in and of itself, is so dangerous it could destroy new unlearned believers. We must walk in love, and lead people to Jesus, and forsake these silly arguments that cause divisions. I thank the Lord, the Pentecostals of Fort Worth don’t have many sacred cows.

  9. 5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

Amen one god and his name is Jesus Christ.

  10. MORE GOD

3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

Love is a verb; an action word, we express love through our actions toward one another, in like manner we express our love to and for GOD. Our actions are driven by our attitude, our attitude is influenced by our beliefs, our love is identified through our obedience.

    JESUS clearly stated in
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Through our obedience we identify our love for GOD and express our desire for MORE GOD.

    MORE OBEDIENCE = MORE GOD.

  11. 2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

You cannot be puffed up with pride and truly know God too. When you seek the face of God it is humbling.

    Isaiah 6:

1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, [is] the LORD of hosts: the whole earth [is] full of his glory.
4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.
5 Then said I, Woe [is] me! for I am undone; because I [am] a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, [which] he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
7 And he laid [it] upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

Isaiah falls at the feet of God and asks for mercy. This is how we approach the King. Our pride will flee and we will be in his presence if we humble ourselves before him.

    2 chronicles 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

  12. 1 Corinthians 8:12-13
And so, by sinning against the brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause my brother to stumble.

We should not engage in anything that eill make are fellow brothers and sisters fall. It was once said of Paul,”if Paul saw a brother who did not eat pork, he would hid his ham sandwhich behind his back if they came to talk to him.” If it offends our brother, dont do it.

  13. Be Genuine

    1 Corinthians 8:3 (KJV Strong’s)
3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

1 Corinthians 8:3 (Wuest – The New Testament: An Expanded Translation)
3 Now, assuming that anyone loves God, this person is known by God.

    1 Corinthians 8:3 (Amplified Bible – AMP)
3 But if one loves God truly [with affectionate reverence, prompt obedience, and grateful recognition of His blessing], he is known by God [recognized as worthy of His intimacy and love, and he is owned by Him].

The word says if we love him we will keep his commandments. This means our keeping of the commandments reveals our love, our love for him causes us to be known by him.

Therefore if we refuse to keep his commandments we cannot claim to love him, or be known by him.

God will not have a pity relationship. If we want to know him we must give every effort to, we must read and obey, we must surrender and serve, we must seek and save the lost.

If we love him the same will be known of us.

    Galatians 4:9 (KJV Strong’s)
9 But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

Backsliding is not an admission of leaving off obedience to the word but actually a revelation that we have left our first love. When we return to the bondage of Egypt we can only do so by first waking away from his loving embrace.

There is no lip service in the kingdom.

    2 Timothy 2:19 (KJV Strong’s)
19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

To know him, to love him, we must give up self will, and control of our lives. Iniquity disqualifies us.

Nothing can separate us from the love of Jesus expect ourselves.

  14. 6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

    One Lord
    One Faith
    One Baptism

  15. 1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.

2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

Wisdom and knowledge is very important, but without revelation and understanding of how to apply it in our lives, it is nothing.

Proverbs 4:5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. 6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee 7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

  16. 11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?

12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.

I believe the lesson here is be careful how you live your life, not just for your self but for the sake of others. Just like what was preached about last night, you may think of yourself as a lone wolf and that what you do won’t affect others but it couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Whether you realize it or not, people look at what you do and from you they judge how to be “Christian” I know I did this same thing many times when I was young in the faith. Don’t go doing whatever you want just because you think it’s okay, you got ask yourself, will this make other people stumble in the faith? If it does then don’t do it, you will only cause more harm than good by doing so

  17. 8:1 Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that “all of us possess knowledge.” This “knowledge” puffs up, but love builds up.

1 Cor. 13:4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;1 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

We need to remain humble before the Lord and not be fooled into thinking that we are greater than Him. We need to evaluate WHO we are listening to if we think that we could ever be wiser than God. We can amount to nothing without Jesus.

1 Cor 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

Isaiah 64:6 We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.

James 4:10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.

  18. 1corinthians 8:4 so thgwen about eating food sacrificed to idols. We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world and that there is no God but one. For even if there are so called gods whether in heaven or on earth as indeed there are many gods and many lords ywet for us there ius but one God the Father from whom all things came and for whom we live and there is but one Lord Jesus Christ though whom all things came and through whom we live.

  19. 1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.

2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

The pride of life is one of the 3 main downfalls for man-especially when we look at ourselves in pride over our knowledge – whether it’s knowledge of the word, knowledge of the supernatural, or knowledge of life in general. Rather we must be humble because there is SO MUCH MORE that we can learn, and the 2nd part of verse 2 says it so well- “he knows nothing yet as he ought to know.” Pastor preached that we must hunger and thirst for More and so no matter where we are on this road to Heaven, there is More before each one of us to do, to attain, to learn, to become, etc, so that we can experience more revival, more of his presence, more of his glory, more miracles…More!

  20. Lead at all times.

8 But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.

9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.

    10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;

We see here an issue of eating. Another word for it is consume, partake off, for our benefit or pleasure. And it talks about eating meat offered to idols. Can we then say that meat is simply flesh? So we can look at the issue as of what we consume or partake off in the flesh. The thing that I see the apostle is trying to bring conscience is that those with knowledge should look at the things they consume because the babes or weak in the faith are looking up to them. We should know that a leader leads at all times. And for that same reason we can recognize this leadership skill in Paul saying that he will not partake of eating flesh if it will cause one of the babes to fall. We must analyze all our actions and be aware that the more we know, the more we ought to love and be able to make sacrifices for the good of all the brethren that we may not be a stumbling block to anyone.

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. NLT

  21. 4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.

5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)

6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

The is only 1 God 1 Faith and 1 baptism. There is no other like our God! Nothing in this world can compare to how great our God is!!

  22. How you live, act and talk are visuals of your testimony!
    What testimony are you sharing?

Thank you Jesus! You are good and worthy to be praised!

  23. One God !!!! 6. But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Je’-sus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. The fullness of the Godhead dwells all up in him !!!! One Lord, one God, One savior, and his name is Jesus !!!!

  24. No Islands

12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.

13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.

There are no islands in the Kingdom. Our connection to the Body of Christ means that our actions effect others, whether for good or bad. Paul speaks here of a way in which it can effect others negatively, but we can apply the same principle in doing well and have the opposite outcome: lead others closer to God.

    Galatians 6:2
Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

I believe bearing the burdens of our fellow saints means more than just the sort of hands-on approach of directly addressing a need, I believe it also shows up in our lifestyle by living in such a manner that takes into account others’ weaknesses and purposefully avoids doing things that would cause harm to instead give edification. There is beauty in how no man is an island in that it gives us opportunity to inherently benefit others through loving, righteous living. The Body of Christ is meant to strengthen itself as we walk in victory in Christ, and guard itself from the snare of sin.

  25. 6 But for us, There is one God, the Father, by whom all things were created, and for whom we live. And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created, and through whom we live. (NLT)

Amen!! You created me, You died for me, and I will forever live for You!!

  26. 2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

No body is perfect, only God knows what’s in your heart. If you love God and are sincere he will know, he knows everything. Lord I seek you more and more.

  27. 6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

Amen nothing but ONE Lord which is JESUS CHRIST!!! No other God but you Lord! You are alpha and omega and without you we are nothing! Thank you Jesus for dying for me no one can compare to the love that you have for us! Even when we turn our backs on you you still cover us and protect us! Thank you for your mercy Jesus!!!!

  28. Brothers Keeper.

This chapter sounds to me that even when we are strong there’s someone in the faith who is weak. I we should lift them up by our actions that they see Jesus more and less of me us. What a good message. I pray Lord that I will stand up for you Jesus and be strong, because theres someone out there who thinks or acts higher than me. But in my eyes Jesus is higher than anyone I know. I glorify Him and not be a stumblingblock for my neighbor but share the word in the outside and inside.
    What a good Jesus.

  29. 3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

We are known by our actions. This is a fact of life. When we act like we’re Christians. The world sees that. But when we are truly Christ like. Then the world takes notice. Then our testimony will be the conduit for God to reach to people.

  30. “But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.” Paul was stating the fact that there is only one God (Jesus), and that one should be mindful of others. While the question pertained to consuming meat prepared for false god’s, one should be careful too never offend a Brother or Sister. If our actions cause another to stumble, then one will answer to Jesus (God) for it. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  31. 9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak
As brothers and sisters in the Lord we should do everything in our power to make sure we do not cause each other to fall. There are things that may be at liberty to us and we may be able to fulfill them without offending ourselves, but if it causes a stumbling block to someone we should show temperance and not do it. By doing so we honor the Lord.

  32. 9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.

we should not do anything or say anything that will cause a fellow believer to stumble and fall.

  33. 4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.

I had actually been praying for God to give me this verse. I have been witnessing to my co- workers and she is a good catholic. But God has been dealing with her and I know there will come a time when God will nudge me with a word for her life.
I know when God opens her eyes she will see One God in all scripture.
Keep her in your prayers, Yolanda Alvarez

  34. 3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

What this scripture tells me is that for whoever believes in him and trusts him they dont have to worry about falling down and telling yourselves that you can’t do it and that’s when God comes in your life and that’s if you let the mighty God of all living things into your life he will bless you and put miracles in your life. I believe and trust in my God that he is so mighty and glorifying and so merciful that there’s nothing hard or impossible for my God to do in my life and in anyone’s life the only way to feel his presents is that your going in the right direction were he is wanting you to go into and that your strong with his word and faith with him!!! In Jesus Name!!!

  35. But if one loves God truly [with affectionate reverence, prompt obedience, and grateful recognition of His blessing], he is known by God [recognized as worthy of His intimacy and love, and he is owned by Him]. (‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭8‬:‭3‬ AMP)

The key is to love God. Then our relationship with the Father will grow in a deeper level.

  36. So if what I eat causes another believer to sin, I will never eat meat again as long as I live—for I don’t want to cause another believer to stumble. (‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭8‬:‭13‬ NLT)

Is the food you’re eating producing valuable nutrition for the body or is it causing the heart to neglect the love of Christ, ignoring the stomach which hungers for souls or the thirst for revival. Don’t read this scripture as one talking about physical food but spiritual food. We need to take in more of Him to allow the sinner to want to do the same. God is so good! Be an example
