2 Corinthians 8

1 Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia;

2 How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.

3 For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves;

4 Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.

5 And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.

6 Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also.

7 Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.

8 I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love.

9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

10 And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago.

11 Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have.

12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.

13 For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened:

14 But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:

15 As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack.

16 But thanks be to God, which put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you.

17 For indeed he accepted the exhortation; but being more forward, of his own accord he went unto you.

18 And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches;

19 And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind:

20 Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us:

21 Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

22 And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have oftentimes proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, upon the great confidence which I have in you.

23 Whether any do enquire of Titus, he is my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren be enquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ.

24 Wherefore shew ye to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf.

  1. RICHES OF CHRIST KINGDOM!!!

9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

Yes, no matter what other people’s might think JESUS IS RICH!!! What other KING wrapped Himself in flesh leaving ALL HIS RICHES BEHIND, being born in a filthy stable with nothing to wear, or a bed to lay His head that later would carry the crown of thorns of VICTORY OVER DEATH. That by itself makes me want to shout HALLELUJAH THANK YOU JESUS!!! But it does not end there for He adopted us infidels by giving us His Name and therefore we shall partake of His inheritance for He will provide ALL OUR NEEDS ACCORDING TO HIS RICHES IN HEAVEN IN CHRIST JESUS!!! All we have to do is ask! Speak to our Lord, Our Savior, Our King, Our Father JAHOVA JIREH OUR PROVIDER!!!!! MY DADDY IS RICHER THAN ROCKEFELLER!!!!!

  2. MORE Giving

For I bear witness that according to their ability, yes, and beyond their ability, they were freely willing, (‭II Corinthians‬ ‭8‬:‭3‬ NKJV)

More Giving. They gave more then what they needed to. They gave more then what met the standards. They giving willingly out if the courtesy of their hearts. Because they knew the needs that had to be met.

We could always give more. Not only in offering. But in time talent and in Love. The more we give in any ministries the more it grows. The More blood sweat and tears the more successful it will be in the name of Jesus.

I want to be able to give more and more one day more then what’s expected of me. In everything I do. Because I long for a change in this world.

For if there is first a willing mind, it is accepted according to what one has, and not according to what he does not have. (‭II Corinthians‬ ‭8‬:‭12‬ NKJV)

  3. iLove to eat the Word

    Doing More
2 Corinthians 8:5 (NLT) “They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do.”

They even did more… Wow, what a concept. What if the church were to pick up this principle of the Word of God and run with it? To do even more than that which is required of us to do.

7Since you excel in so many ways—in your faith, your gifted speakers, your knowledge, your enthusiasm, and your love from us—I want you to excel also in this gracious act of giving.

Not only are we to excel in giving, but we are to always go beyond and go the extra mile.

  4. NLT 13 Of course, I don’t mean your giving should make life easy for others and hard for yourselves. I only mean that there should be some equality.

Today so many have this mentality of dependency of others. They only want to receive and not give. This dependency only causes you to become lazy and not work for a living. If you don’t earn it, you won’t maintain it.

We all have to work for a living and earn what we have, this gives us a sense of pride to protect our materials. Once we earn, we then give joyfully a certain amount that God speaks to us.

  5. This chapter speaks to me about a call to giving. We automatically think of money; but, its so much MORE. As verse 7 AMP says “Now as you abound and excel and are at the front in everything—in faith, in expressing yourselves, in knowledge, in all zeal, and in your love for us—[see to it that you come to the front now and] abound and excel in this gracious work [of almsgiving] also”; the next part comes automatically and without question. As verse 12 AMP says “For if the [eager] readiness to give is there, then it is acceptable and welcomed in proportion to what a person has, not according to what he does not have.” Giving of yourself in ALL, means exactly that…. in ALL. The perfect example is our Lord as verse 9 MSG says “You are familiar with the generosity of our Master, Jesus Christ. Rich as he was, he gave it all away for us—in one stroke he became poor and we became rich.” This reminds me of song I hear on the radio that says “You (Jesus) gave your life, to give me mine”!

We also must learn as a body of Christ to complete one another. Never boasting; but, uplifting and encouraging each other to always do MORE…..together.

  6. 6 Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also.

We need to start with the grace of God. Living life everyday to stay in the grace of God, this is our responsibility. If we plan to finish this race in the grace of God, we must put every effort into being ready to meet God.

  7. MORE WILLING

11 Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have.
12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.

One the most challenging things in life to hide is the “unwillingness” of an individual. Often people go through the motions of ministry, the actions of worship or the routine of prayer, but the obvious is for any to witness, the “want to” or “willingness” is absent.

The apostle is commanding the church for their giving. He also states the added value to the believer in giving from a willing heart.

    TLB
11 Having started the ball rolling so enthusiastically, you should carry this project through to completion just as gladly, giving whatever you can out of whatever you have. Let your enthusiastic idea at the start be equalled by your realistic action now. 12 If you are really eager to give, then it isn’t important how much you have to give. God wants you to give what you have, not what you haven’t.

As disciples of Christ JESUS we are compelled throughout the word of GOD to give of time (GO), talent (serve) and treasure (resources). We must faithfully evaluate ourselves to identify if we have lost any desire, passion or willingness to GO, SERVE or GIVE RESOURCES.

A MORE WILLING attitude will carry us farther than the abundance of resources we may steward.

  8. MORE GIVING

    2 Corinthians 8:10-11 (Amplified Bible – AMP)
10 [It is then] my counsel and my opinion in this matter that I give [you when I say]: It is profitable and fitting for you [now to complete the enterprise] which more than a year ago you not only began, but were the first to wish to do anything [about contributions for the relief of the saints at Jerusalem].
11 So now finish doing it, that your [enthusiastic] readiness in desiring it may be equalled by your completion of it according to your ability and means.

They began funding their “building program.”: raising, and sending money to the saints at Jerusalem, with excitement, and passion.

They all ate the delicious steak dinner, and felt the power of conviction fall upon their hearts as they committed to give. But somewhere down the road they started to become a bit stingy with their giving.

A funny thing happened though. As they let up on their giving their finances became scarcer. They started to suffer, and now they really had a reason not to give.

    2 Corinthians 8:15 (Amplified Bible – AMP)
15 As it is written, He who gathered much had nothing over, and he who gathered little did not lack.

Wealth comes through giving. When we give we allow the windows of heaven to open, and stay open. The more we give the more Jesus will give to us and to what we are giving to! We can’t lose giving to God!

  9. 5 “They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do.” (NLT)

Let’s do more! Can you imagine what would happen if we all gave even just a little bit more?!

  10. 4 Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.

5 And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.

Fellowship – a very important word to New Believers, as well as, established believers. We can never get to the place where we don’t feel we need each other. In NT days they went from house to house breaking bread (sharing the Word) and fellowship one with another. We all need the family of God to be there for us spiritually, but to also be there for us in fellowship, in suffering, in good times and bad….

II need you, You need me
    We’re all a part of God’s body
Stand with me, Agree with me
    We’re all a part of God’s body
It is his will that every need be supplied
    You are important to me
    I need you to survive

I pray for you, You pray for me
I love you, I need you to survive
I won’t harm you, With words from my mouth
I love you, I need you to survive

  11. 2 Corinthians 8:13 our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed but that there might be equality. At the present time your plenty will supply what they need so that I turn their plenty will supply what you need.

  12. 2 Though they have been going through much trouble and hard times, they have mixed their wonderful joy with their deep poverty, and the result has been an overflow of giving to others. 3 They gave not only what they could afford but far more; and I can testify that they did it because they wanted to and not because of nagging on my part. 4 They begged us to take the money so they could share in the joy of helping the Christians in Jerusalem. 5 Best of all, they went beyond our highest hopes, for their first action was to dedicate themselves to the Lord and to us, for whatever directions God might give to them through us. 6 They were so enthusiastic about it that we have urged Titus, who encouraged your giving in the first place, to visit you and encourage you to complete your share in this ministry of giving. 7 You people there are leaders in so many ways—you have so much faith, so many good preachers, so much learning, so much enthusiasm, so much love for us. Now I want you to be leaders also in the spirit of cheerful giving.

These people were living through hard times and had deep poverty, yet they insisted on giving -mixing their joy and, no doubt, love of others. There is a desire in this church to bless others so they could receive from God what they had received. They are being commended as leaders in the spirit of cheerful giving! What a testimony-God IS good, and though poor, they obviously could not out give God. Freely we have received, and freely we must give so the kingdom of God can advance. The POFW are giving to ‘Impacting our Future Together’ to see the region of Ft. Worth saved, to see backsliders come home and to reach the hungry & thirst! More Giving!

  13. Sent

2Cor. 8:17 For he not only accepted our appeal, but being himself very earnest he is going to you of his own accord.

Titus was sent and took the mission willingly with eagerness. This is the way one should go. If you decide upon yourself to do it, then you are wrong. All is done in order.

  14. (MSG) 2 Cor. 8:1-5
“Now, friends, I want to report on the surprising and generous ways in which God is working in the churches in Macedonia province. Fierce troubles came down on the people of those churches, pushing them to the very limit. The trial exposed their true colors: They were incredibly happy, though desperately poor. The pressure triggered something totally unexpected an outpouring of pure and generous gifts. I was there and saw it for myself. They gave offerings of whatever they could – far MORE than they could afford! – pleading for the privilege of helping out in the relief of poor Christians.
This was totally spontaneous, entirely their own idea, and caught us completely off guard. What explains it was that they had first given themselves unreservedly to God and to us. The other giving simply flowed out of the purpose of God working in their lives.”

First, we must give MORE of ourselves to God and the ministry.
Secondly, there is a lesson to be learned here. When we First Give MORE of ourselves to God and the ministry, we can be Happy during times of trouble in our lives, simply because we know who we trust in. And when we are going through trouble in our lives, maybe it is time to do something unexpectedly by Giving MORE to help others. When your going through trouble in your life, doesn’t it make you feel better when you can help someone else? Then your trouble doesn’t seem so big after all.

    So…
Give MORE of yourself to God and the ministry!
    Don’t Worry, BE HAPPY!
Give MORE during troubled times in your life, and it will make you feel better!

  15. Revelations 1:5
    (KJV)
And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begottrn of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

Witnesses are the highest calling of GOD.
    Thankyou Jesus(GOD).

  16. ESV 2 for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. 3 For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, 4 begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints—5 and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.

When we serve the Lord first, even in the midst of trial, He will give us what we need. These churches were being persecuted, yet God provided for them so that they may help other Christians they didn’t know financially. I have experienced His provision recently in my own finances; He has always given me enough to cover what I need and a bit more so that I could give back to the church. It has been awesome watching God move in my life!

  17. 12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.

We must be willing to do all things that God has commissioned us for. We don’t have time to be bother with what he said or she said, but we must always be about our Father’s business. If we are to go to heaven, we must be willing to abide by God’s Word.

  18. 19 And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind:

    Grace.

If you really think about it we take it for grant it. We believe that God will forgive is. And he does. But there is a day coming soon that we will all be judged for all things. From the less to the greatest. Yet sin is sin. We take the grace that God gave us and throw it away. We often just say I know God will forgive me so I can get by with… Yet what if that was you last day. Or even your last minute. What would happen then. Would we go to hell? Is it really that worth it? Thank God that he has given us his mercy. But there is a day that we will be judged. Just because we think that we are getting away with it. Judgement day has not yet arrived. We still have time to make right of our wrongs. By asking forgiveness from others and repenting from our evil ways. So what are you doing with mercy?

  19. 23 Whether any do enquire of Titus, he is my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren be enquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ.

Questioning someone else’s motives is dangerous. It leaves you to assume something about them. Assuming leads to a big mess. You have to question your own motives but leave judgment of your brethren to God. If we assume anything about a fellow worker let us consider his or her sacrifice to the kingdom. People are not going to sacrifice their lives for nothing! The key is to examine and pray that God examine our hearts and motives. We don’t want to turn a Titus away because of assumption.

  20. 7 Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.

Hallelujah Jesus! More Abundance in everything!!!! If we abound MORE in faith, utterance, knowledge, diligence, love, and grace! We are going to be soul winners 🙂 because God will give us the grace to speak to people and be able to care and love for one another like Jesus does! All that matters is to follow Jesus and we shall be fishermen of men 🙂 MORE HARVEST!!!!

  21. More Willing
12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.

people who live on purpose have a willing mind that uses what they have to fulfill their purpose. They do not allow the limitations of what they don’t have to stop them.

  22. “How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.” They had a heart of sacrifice, just as our Lord (Jesus). One that has a heart too give as we read here, will surely reap. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  23. For we are concerned about what is right not only before the Lord but also before men. -2 Corinthians 8:21 NET

Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. -2 Corinthians 8:21

Honesty is not an option it is a way of life. Your life should be an example of what it means to be honest.

  24. 12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.
When there is a willing mind, a compelling desire, and drive and motivation to do something or be something in God nothing can stop it. For years I have heard “were there’s a will there’s a way” and I believe that. As long as your will matches up with God’s will you can fulfill whatever your heart desires

  25. Since you excel in so many ways—in your faith, your gifted speakers, your knowledge, your enthusiasm, and your love from us —I want you to excel also in this gracious act of giving.

Now you should finish what you started. Let the eagerness you showed in the beginning be matched now by your giving. Give in proportion to what you have. Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have. (‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭8‬:‭7, 11-12‬ NLT)

We can’t out give God. This scripture lets us know that we should give proportion to what we have and not what we can’t afford.
    Give MORE

  26. More Abundance

    2 Corinthians 8:2 NLT
They are being tested by many troubles, and they are very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity.

Abundance is about so much more than just monetary riches. Sometimes it is in the darkest trials that we become the richest spiritually. They are some things that money can’t buy, and to receive eternal abundance we must step away from the limits of the natural and step into the supernatural.

    3 John 1:2
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

  27. v7 Therefore, as ye abound in everything, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to, see that ye abound in this grace.

We just have to be willing to believe the Lord and prove HIM.

” Seek first the kingdom of GOD, all these other things shall be added to us ” Luke 12 31

  28. As the Scriptures say, “Those who gathered a lot had nothing left over, and those who gathered only a little had enough.” (‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭8‬:‭15‬ NLT)

If your heart is set on receiving more than what you need, then you will never appreciate what you have received. If you appreciate having everything you needed provided in just the right proportions, you will see the value in what was inherited. And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. (‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭19‬ NLT)

  29. More Dilligent

21 Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.22 And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have oftentimes proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, upon the great confidence which I have in you.

    gence1
    ˈdiləjəns/
    noun
careful and persistent work or effort.
synonyms: conscientiousness, assiduousness, assiduity, hard work, application, concentration, effort, care, industriousness, rigor, meticulousness, thoroughness; perseverance, persistence, tenacity, dedication, commitment, tirelessness, indefatigability, doggedness

  30. 7 Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.

Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

  31. Now you should finish what you started. Let the eagerness you showed in the beginning be matched now by your giving. Give in proportion to what you have. (‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭8‬:‭11‬ NLT)

Don’t finish with so little, that big fire, hunger, burden that you had for God continue all the way until the end. Do this in not just one area of your life do this is every area you do for God. Be as desired as you were for Him at the beginning and exceed more that what you first had. We should grow MORE in every area….don’t be the same as you were and DONT decrease. Give God all you’ve got and push for MORE!!!!

  32. 2 Corinthians 8:12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to what a man hath, and not according to what he hath not.

We know that the Lord loves a cheerful giver, but also we must have a willing mind.

  33. 8 I am not commanding you to do this. But I am testing how genuine your love is by comparing it with the eagerness of the other churches.

God will ask of things that are not “commandments” or part of the “rules”. Yet its to take us to the next level in Him, to simply obey and trust in Him.

  34. Your love to us!!!! 7. Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also. 1 Cor. 1 : 5 2 Cor. 9 : 8 Thank you for loving me !!!! Thank you for knowledge !!!!
