Ephesians 4

1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?

10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

20 But ye have not so learned Christ;

21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:

22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

27 Neither give place to the devil.

28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

  1. Eph. 4:31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.

    βλασφημία is the Greek word used for slander in this scripture. Transliterating it would be blasphemia, which is also translated as blasphemy in Matt. This manner of speech is that of mockery, railing, and ridicule. As Christians, we are not to speak in such a way. Our words must build up and encourage. Let’s do away with foolish jesting (unprofitable joking) and condescension. Lord fill our mouths with life and help us to maintain a positive attitude.

  2. 14. Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. NLT

    Don’t allow yourself to be deceived into believing some new, easy doctrine just because a false prophet spins the tale with eloquence and has many others already convinced.

    Galatians 1:8 KJV
    But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

  3. 1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

    2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

    3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

    As saints of the most high God we should endeavor to walk in a way that showed we appreciate our God and where he has brought us to. Walking worthy of the vocation that God has gave us. What is that vocation?
    What does God expect from us his children and especially his ministers, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit. Keeping the unity of the Spirit under any circumstance is what we should do everyday. Always with the other person in our minds not in the spirit of selfishness, selfishness is not a part of the fruit of the Spirit, but the works of the flesh.

  4. Verses 1-3 MSG ” In light of all this, here’s what I want you to do. While I’m locked up here, a prisoner for the Master, I want you to get out there and walk—better yet, run!—on the road God called you to travel. I don’t want any of you sitting around on your hands. I don’t want anyone strolling off, down some path that goes nowhere. And mark that you do this with humility and discipline—not in fits and starts, but steadily, pouring yourselves out for each other in acts of love, alert at noticing differences and quick at mending fences.” It is time to hit the ground running.

    So you’ve veered of God’s path…..verses 20-24 MSG say “But that’s no life for you. You learned Christ! My assumption is that you have paid careful attention to him, been well instructed in the truth precisely as we have it in Jesus. Since, then, we do not have the excuse of ignorance, everything—and I do mean everything—connected with that old way of life has to go. It’s rotten through and through. Get rid of it! And then take on an entirely new way of life—a God-fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces his character in you.” Do not believe the lies of the devil and think its to late; if your reading this, God is granting you another opportunity to just say “yes”.

  5. MORE UNITY

    3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

    MORE UNITY is the fruit of laboring together for Christ JESUS with proper attitude. We find the formula in verses:

    1 – 3: 1 I beg you—I, a prisoner here in jail for serving the Lord—to live and act in a way worthy of those who have been chosen for such wonderful blessings as these. 2 Be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. 3 Try always to be led along together by the Holy Spirit and so be at peace with one another. TLB

    25 – 32: 25 Stop lying to each other; tell the truth, for we are parts of each other and when we lie to each other we are hurting ourselves. 26 If you are angry, don’t sin by nursing your grudge. Don’t let the sun go down with you still angry—get over it quickly; 27 for when you are angry, you give a mighty foothold to the devil.
    28 If anyone is stealing he must stop it and begin using those hands of his for honest work so he can give to others in need. 29 Don’t use bad language. Say only what is good and helpful to those you are talking to, and what will give them a blessing.
    30 Don’t cause the Holy Spirit sorrow by the way you live. Remember, he is the one who marks you to be present on that day when salvation from sin will be complete.
    31 Stop being mean, bad-tempered, and angry. Quarreling, harsh words, and dislike of others should have no place in your lives. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God has forgiven you because you belong to Christ. TLB

    MORE UNITY is produced by YIELDING to one another for the cause of a greater end and purpose.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  6. Being empty, will take you nowhere!

    And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. (‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭30‬ KJV)
    This verse is taken for granted, so lightly!!

    Many “Christians” rather live according to their ways after darkness, without considering the consequences. They are living for the “now.” Not having reverence for the holy scriptures of GOD, for His holy nature, for His dwelling place, your temple.
    Stop playing with sin, because you can and eventually get burned!
    The Lord’s salvation and grace is for you, don’t reject Him any longer. He gave His life for you.

  7. Don’t forget to get dressed

    Ephesians 4:24-25 (KJV Strong’s)
    24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
    25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

    Living for Jesus is a daily purposeful choice. Although we do not wake up backsliders everyday, we still must make a concerted effort to put on the new man.

    Romans 13:14 (KJV Strong’s)
    14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

    We cannot wear two uniforms. We will either wear the clothes of the wicked or the clothes of righteousness.

    Put on is a command. Daily we should hit our knees, repent, seek to be led by the spirit, and put on the new man, put on Christ

    Every day don’t forget to get dressed.

  8. 1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

    2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

    3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

    4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

    The characteristics we find in this chapter of being worthy of the vocation that we have been called to are;

    1. Lowliness of mind;
    2. Meekness,
    3. Longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
    4. Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

    When we step outside these characteristics, we are no long worthy of the vocation that God has called us for. These are necessary to keep unity in the body, otherwise we will no longer be one body, fitly joined together in unity for the purpose and furtherance of the Kingdom of God.

  9. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all.

    This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love. (‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭5-6, 13-16‬ NLT)

    The more we seek God and His word the more mature we will be. When that happens we will be stronger and be able to fight against the things of this world instead of falling into them. We have the strength of The Lord!!!

    Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body. And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil. (‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭21-27‬ NLT)

    So if you are in a situation where it’s not of God….throw it away and grab a strong grip on to God and He will shield you from the things if you stay strong in Him. Don’t allow little things to get in your way such as anger, I know we all fall for that…But we are stronger!!! Don’t give place to the devil, ONLY PLACE FOR GOD!!!!!

  10. Ephesians 4:

    2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

    3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace

    Peace is more important than being right. This is a statement that Pastor Watts made in passing that has really stuck with me. This is the best marriage advice ever given. Forbearing means to put up with or suffer with someone. If we truly love one another the little things that people do that get on our nerves should not be an issue. We have to allow room for each of us to be different, that is the key to is being seperate members of the body of Christ all fittly joined together. We forbear one another in unity. Unity in the church overcomes the worlds problems every time. I can put in a very nice kitchen for you but you better call Brother Crockett to fix your computer. We all have our place. When we understand each other’s differences and accept them as who they are we can move on past their insecurities and really do something for The Kingdom!

    MORE UNITY!

  11. iLove to eat MORE Word

    More Unity
    2 Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. 3 Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.

    Key Lessons to Unity:
    More Humility
    More Gentleness
    More Patience
    More Understanding
    More Effort
    More Peace
    =
    More Unity

  12. 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

    13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

    14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

    When we begin to read and dig deeper into his word, we start to uncover His mysteries and it begins to strengthen our spirit and lives. The Word is the bread of life and God is that word. He will strengthen us and equip us to live and fight our battles

  13. As a body builder or weight lifter not to boast in self but relating to this scripture as a Holy Body Building lesson in the word of God.

    24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

    “Be strong ….BODY”……………………………

  14. 30 And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own,[e] guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
    What do we have to be mad at? God has called us his own! We are his children and he is watching out for us. We need to forgive to be forgiven like God paid the price on the cross for us. His is 1 God, 1 Faith, 1 Baptism and he called me his own! 🙂 ❤

  15. 27 Neither give place to the devil.
    28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth

    AMEN!!! Don’t give place to the devil because its easy to do what the flesh wants to do, but God is always pulling us away and telling us in the Spirit to do what is right!!! Its crazy because when I want to invite somebody to church I set it in my mind and the devil tries to make me think otherwise! He starts putting all these things on why their not going to come and how its not going to be worth it!!! But I just rebuke that Spirit and invite them to church…like Pastor has told us before if they say no the first time they might say the yes the 2nd time and if they say no they might say yes the 5th time 🙂 God has his perfect timing and I am very blessed that the Romans, Arvizus, & the Blanco’s have experienced a life changing experience just because of an invitation to church 🙂 People are hungry for the supernatural, nobody can give the breathe of life that God gives!! Such a privilege to be part of this movement!!! 🙂 GOD IS GOOD & is worthy to be praised!!!
    #TAKING OVER THE REGION 🙂

  16. 26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

    Never go to bed mad, angry, or frustrated. Make it right with whoever or whatever. weather it be a person, animal, or God. Make it right or it will be worse in the morning, for when you were sleeping you GAVE the devil a place and time to mess it up more.

    27 Neither give place to the devil.

  17. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
    32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

    We must forgive all from all people.

  18. More Love VI

    Love nourishes the Body of Christ. It edifies and leads believers into maturity. Just as a natural child needs a mother and father not just for conception and infancy but for continued development and growth as well, so a spiritual child needs the love and care of Christ and the church not just so they can be born again and get through “nursery” but so they can grow into maturity as long as they are this side of heaven.

    1 Peter 1:22
    Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently

  19. 29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

    How much damage can we do with just the words that we speak. This reminded me a bit on brother Crockett’s preaching from Wednesday Of hearing the Word of God. The Word of God is life unto us. Sometimes all people need is for one to speak life to them. The world and the enemy has spoken deception, and death must individuals. Let God’s word in your heart that you can love and edify others. Speak the Word of God to people. Jesus is the way the truth and the life. He is the word made flesh.

  20. More unity/positive thinking

    Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. (‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭29-32‬ KJV)

    Putting away evil speaking causes unity through positivity. If you only speak positive things then you are always encouraging. You wouldalways bring unity through your words.

  21. And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption. (‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭30‬ NLT)

    You’re a living breathing testimony. If God has changed your life and taken you out of your once sinful nature, then we need to act like it. We can’t go around acting as if we are still a part of the world. We represent God and POFW. We can’t go about acting like fools during the week and only act proper when we go to church.

  22. v6 That the Gentiles should be followheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:

    To serve GOD we must first know HIS WORD
    What pleases GOD to know HIS commandments as well as to know HIM personally .
    One cannot properly serve a Lord whom he does
    not know nor divide his love between two or more gods and still effectively serve.

    ” Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve” Matthew 4:10

  23. “4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling”. If there is only one body, than we are either a part, or not. “32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” To be a Christian, is too be like Christ; be kind, be tenderhearted, and be forgiving. Dear God, help me to examine self; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  24. 1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
    2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
    3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
    4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

    As I look at the first verse here, ” walking worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called..” my head drops. Although most know very little, I live with myself and sometimes remember too much.

    We all have short-comings, and areas where we know we are not doing ALL that we should be doing, to be the best ______ that God has called us to be. With that said, why do we get prideful and pick negatively at each other, trying to fight to “get ahead”, causing disunity?

    Does anyone care to take a guess as to the one hope for our calling?

    UNITY. Unity in Christ is the only hope that we have in achieving our callings. As one body the toe goes nowhere without the help of the rest of the body. on the flip, when there is infection (disunity), the body cannot preform anywhere near its peak.

  25. 2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

    3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

    4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

    5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

    The Lord comes and takes note of our unity. We have unity in the doctrine as in verses 4 & 5 and unity in mission in reaching the lost. Unity also takes love for each other so when the enemy attacks -and he will- we stand arm in arm ready to protect one another.

  26. One body !!!! 4. There is one body, and one Spir’-it, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; Rom. 12 : 5 5. One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 1 Cor. 1 : 13; 2 Cor. 11 : 4; Eph. 1 : 33 6. One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all, 7. But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. Jesus you are all these !!!! I LOVE YOU JESUS !!!!

  27. 22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
    23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
    24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
    When we hear the Truth, we are called to put away our sins and filthiness, because we have been made new. I hope i remember this when my temptations come, that I have been made new, called to a higher purpose.

  28. 29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

  29. MORE Let It Go

    26 And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 for anger gives a foothold to the devil. (NLT)

    Just as the childs song states, Let it go.

    Something or someone is going to upset you at some point. Yet we have to be able to simply let it go. It’s not always easy and some situations may take longer to receive the victory over, just take it day by day and let it go.
