Ephesians 5

1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;

4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.

14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

    The Bible describes JESUS The ” head of the church”

    Let our focus be on JESUS CHRIST and recognize HIM as the head of the body. As we contuine to submit to the head GOD will continually nourishes HIS body because we are knited together.
    We will be a healthy body mature and grow spiritually , and make more disciples.

    “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus” Philippians 2:5

  2. The thankful servant

    Ephesians 5:20-21
    always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.

    After Paul instructs us on what to avoid he continues to show us how to do so, by being filled with the Spirit and thankful to God in everything while submitting to one another. When we submit to one another we are putting ourselves below them and giving respect. We respect one another and do not regard our opinions to the degree to cause disruption.
    Ephesians 5:4
    and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.

    Giving thanks is the alternative to negative, unproductive communication. It is hard to speak perversely when you are praising the Holy One, Jesus Christ.

  3. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

    We should man up and understand what and you should fellowship. There are people and places that we should not have fellowship with, but reprove them because of their stand on the truth. These people have to be handled according to scripture with the right spirit and attitude to save their soul, if at all possible.

  4. iLove to eat MORE Word

    Brainwashed
    “to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word.” (‭Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭26‬ NLT)

    Usually when one hears the statement “brainwashed” it is in a negative connotation, however, we should always welcome a clean brain compared to a dirty one.

    Dirty brains say dirty things and Paul certainly addresses the situation when he says, “Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God.”

    We need more brain washed folks at POFW. You might wonder how one can become brainwashed…Well, first let me say that it’s not by drinking more Kool-Aid. The only way to become brainwashed is to read MORE of the Word of God. We are “Washed by the cleansing of God’s word.” (‭Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭26‬ NLT)

    On a final note, a man once told me that he could not control what he thought. In response, I shared a scripture with him. “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” (‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭5‬ KJV). BOOM. That means we can control our thoughts thus allowing us to have clean brains.

    If you have not been brainwashed, I encourage you to be brainwashed as soon as possible. Read more word and remember, ” A clean brain is a good brain.”

    No matter how someone tries to pervert the truth of God’s word, if something was sinful to God in the past it still is. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

    5 Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. 2 Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us[a] and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.

    Living by the Spirit’s Power
    15 So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. 16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. 17 Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. 18 Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, 19 singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. 20 And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

    Thank you Jesus for loving me even when no one else New what you had planned for me. Thank you Jesus for your loving mercy. Thank Jesus for always knowing my heart and where I would be. Help us all Jesus to be lights of the world and do things that are well pleasing unto you. I love you my God.

    The power that gives life to man through JESUS Christ also brings death through deceit. Man in his desire for power, will utilize words for manipulation and personal gain. The WORD of GOD is the source of LIFE. However we are responsible and accountable for our response to words. Either we value, honor and obey the WORD of GOD or we dishonor, doubt and disobey.

    The deception is evident when man will listen to another sinful man or woman and take their temporal word over the eternal WORD of GOD. From this perspective the decision to hear and believe the word of a sinful man over a HOLY GOD just is not wise.

    GOD will judge disobedience to HIS WORD. We must know MORE WORD to protect ourselves from this coming judgement and separate ourselves from people that profess such foolishness. GOD will judge what he said he will judge and we must distance ourselves from those deceiving lies and acts of sin.

  8. “Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.” Paul (the chosen man of God) was teaching on how to be like Christ (Jesus), and also how to avoid deception. One that hides their true motives or intentions is deceptive; and one that speaks one way and lives another is also deceptive and needs prayer. God (Jesus) has chosen a man (Pastor) too help and guide one today, as in times past, so that one may live like Christ and not be deceived; as such one (I) would be wise to listen. Dear God, help me to hear, see, and do; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

    Children do what they see their parents doing; they learn by watching and imitating. They are excited to be acting like Mom or Dad and try to do things exactly like them. We should be the same way with our Heavenly Father. To do that, we must study His Word and communicate with Him often. I want to be more like Him!

    Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

  10. 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

    33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

    Not to unbelievers understanding, but to the believers.

    In these last verses in this chapter to me is saying that not are the unbeluevers going to understand this saying about the husband and wife being as one flesh, but the spirit that lives in a believer will . The Lord givesthe understanding by His Word.

    Respecr the LLord and His ways and there will be much comfort.

    There was… A time in my life when I was full of darkness. I loved living in darkness. I always knew where the light was but I didn’t want to turn it on. I ran from the light. But when it came the day when I gave in and fell for his love he was so willingly able to give abs show his light to me. So now a approach the light daily and I’m brand new cause he made.

  12. THE COVENANT OF MARRIAGE!!!!

    22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
    23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

    25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

    Yes, ladies and gentlemen, marriage is a covenant, a contract you might say. We as wives MUST submit to our husbands, but at the same time husbands you MUST LOVE, PROTECT, AND NEVER HARM YOUR WIVES; FOR HARMING OR HURTING YOU WIVES IS HARMING AND HURTING YOURSELVES. The moment a men mistreats his wife he breaks this covenant and the contract is null and void. You see, no one has a problem submitting to a husband that respect, loves, protect, cherish, his wife as Christ loves the Church…. The biggest example of love is to give your life for her, as Christ gave His life for the Church. I reverence my husband for he loves me and respects me and I respect him as I respect myself. I submit to him, for he loves me, and has never harmed me. For I am his and he is mine and we are one. The way God intended it to be.

    If we want to be acceptable and pleasing to the Lord, we must have the fruit of the Spirit at work in our lives (Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Gentleness, Goodness, Faith, Meekness, and Temperance). Anything else is just works of the flesh and unfruitful works of darkness.

  15. 8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light

    Our life should be a light, an example to all those around us. If those we are in daily contact with cannot see Jesus reflected in us, we need to polish our light in prayer and ask God to reveal what is hindering the light from shining through. Our conversation, where we go, what we do, what we watch, what we talk about watching, what we post on Facebook what we listened to or watched, all reflects the light. If Jesus wouldn’t watch it, listen to it, say it, read it, type it, see it, then if we do any of these things, HIS light cannot be reflected in us and through us.

    We need MORE of Jesus to have MORE light.

    Let us be glad.
    I thank God each day for a new day. For the opportunity to serve with some of the greatest men and women that I know. It all boils down to submission. When we are in the flow of the anointing, great things will happen. This is why we must make sure we are in the proper flow. When we see a change in our lives and know something isn’t right. We must check the flow first. Are we under the man of God or our we away from him. Thank God for my man of God , Pastor , who studies the word and challenges us to do the same. A scientist is always learning. We must be like that. Always learning the word of God. Study to show ourselves approved.

  17. Because of the Times

    15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

    16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

    17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

    18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

    19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

    These instructions are key to our walk with God especially in the time we live in.

    Walking circumspectly…
    Always being on the look out for evil and things that would trip you up. You cannot be an ostrich with your head in the sand when your in the Lords Army.

    Redeem the time because the days are evil…
    We have to be guarded and careful of what we spend our time on. Our time is a commodity that cannot be replaced or recreated. Tim is the most valuable thing to a human being. We have to spend it wisely and always look for the opportunity to use it for the Kingdom.

    Be wise and understand the will of the Lord…
    The will of the Lord will never contradict his word. We have to weigh our options and decisions in life by the word of God, making sure that everything we do fits into his plan. We make this part too complicated sometimes when Jesus explained his will very precisely and simply. SEEK AND SAVE THAT WHICH WAS LOST. That is it. If we center our lives around Seeking that which was lost, which is the relationship with God that was lost in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve first sinned, then we are never worried if we are in the will of God or not. The word says to seek first the Kingdom of God. It is simple.

    Be not drunk but be filled with the Spirit…
    Drunkenness is more than just a bottle or can. It is when we elevate something higher than God. If we are more concerned about our success in the world than the success of HIS Kingdom then we are drunk on success. If we are more concerned with the way we look, or what we drive or live in than the building up of our faith in Jesus then we are drunk on pride. The only way to keep these things that so easily beset us is to be full of the Spirit. When we are truly full of the Spirit then it leads us away from the things of this world and into that will of God that we so desperately seek.

    Speak to yourselves with psalms and hymns…
    The word says to encourage yourself in the Lord. The reason the word reminds us to do that is the world we live in is not encouraging to righteousness. The world encourages us to itself which is led by the ruler of this world which is Satan. We have to keep ourselves encouraged in the Lord, it is a way that we let our light shine.
    Mathew 5:16
    Let your light so shine before men, that THEY MAY SEE your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
    if we keep ourselves lifted up in praise to God we are like a beacon for those that are seeking a way out.

    We are living in a world that needs STRONG men and woman of God to take charge and live out what we preach! The world needs the church to be the radical answer to these radical times.

  18. Life MORE abundantly

    15 Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people),

    15 Be constantly taking heed therefore how accurately you are conducting yourselves, not as unwise ones but as wise ones,

    15 So watch your step. Use your head.

    Discern now what manner you walk (to regulate one’s life, to conduct one’s self, to pass one’s life) circumspectly (accurately, diligently, strictly, precisely, distinctly) God forbid never as fools (destitute of christian wisdom) but as wise (shrewd, clever, learned, intelligent, divinely instructed, furnished with christian wisdom) **my notes**

    Nothing good can come out of living life carelessly. It is unwise to live without plan, purpose, or direction. Yes we read the bible, pray, and go to church but we do ourselves a great injustice by settling for just living. Jesus is not just interested in saving our souls but in directing our paths to an ultimate destiny here on earth. Remember he said he came that we may have life and it more abundantly.

    5 Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.
    6 In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths

    What amazing destiny does God have in store for you?

  19. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
    32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
    33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

    I have always heard this preached at weddings, but 32b has never stood out as it just did when I read it. Although it is true that a man leaves his parents to be joined with his wife, that wasn’t what Paul is trying to emphasize here. He is trying to emphasize rather the similarities between the great love and reverence between a man and his wife, and the church and Christ.

    The day that lies ahead of you— or the one you just finished—-maybe stormy and overcast. But William A.Ward, a Texas newspaper editor once said , “God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today.Have you used one to say” Thank You’?”

    Don’t go back to the world you came out of and don’t believe another doctrine-which is not another doctrine at all! God has not changed, but people can change, and the word admonishes us to not preach any other gospel than what we first received, for the person who preaches anything else is accursed. In the last days we have many winds of doctrine floating around, but stand fast in the truth that we have and endure until the end!

    God is over the man and the man over the wife and wife over the kids. In a marriage it takes 2 to make it work, actually takes three. god has to be in our marriages or we allow ourselves trouble. In a marriage if you have a disagreement don’t go to your parents or other people talk it out with each other. When we as couples have a disagreement and we talk to others and then we as a couple are over it the people you have talked to are still upset with with the issue that isn’t even their problem. I believe Jesus is the same way when we have issues and talk or Jesus about them he forgets and forgives us and we move on with Jesus. Let’s put God back in our marriages.

  23. 21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God

    Submission takes work but I believe submitting to one another requires the most practice. It should be easy to submit to people who are clearly in authority over you but how about your brother or sister in the pew next to you? It takes a right spirit and attitude to stay in biblical submission but it is a trait of a Godly man or woman.

  24. 17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

    As humans we like to do what we want ALL the time, but most of the time when we do what we want! Everything goes wrong because were against Gods will!!! Being under the submission to what God wants for us to do we need to understand that everything is for the good of us! God never gives us anything we cant handle!!!

    And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)

    Lets be sensitive to the spirit of God and He will be able to work things out!!!I want you and only you Jesus to control my life, when I put all my trust in you everything is right!!!

    The reason there is a divorce rate of over 50% in our country is because husbands don’t love there wives as they should, and wives don’t submit as they should. Paul is letting wives know that when they submit they give up the control to do what they want to do, and obey what the husband leads and guides them to do. Just how we submit to God.

    To the husbands Paul telling us to love our wives as God loves the church, and to sanctify and cleanse them with the Word. To sanctify means to consecrate, bless, support, approve, purify. As the church we love to hear the Word of God because it blesses us, it comforts us it purifies us, it edifies us. Which is why it is important to be firm on His Word because that will help us as husbands to not only say but show our wives how much we love and appreciate them. With our words and actions. What we say and do goes a long way with them.

  27. Here it is. The passage that brings many women to a screeching hault in front of God and their husbands. Paul exhorts women to submit to their husbands. Just how does one intergrate such teachings into practial 21st century, everyday married life? To be honest the title married has never been mine, but after ‘shacking up’ for years past I can identify partially. Women or wifes cannot ignore this passage, Ephesians 5:21, we see that all people are called to submit to one another for the sake of Christ- husbands, wives, children, singles… Christ has paid the ultimate sacrifice to save us, and we get to live for Him because of it. Therefore, we willingly submit to our brothers and sisters in the Lord out of that love. We love and submit because Jesus first loved us.

    In the same way, in the married relationship, the beginning of the equation is not submission but love. A husbands loving interaction with his wife will produce a willing submission to him. A wife’s loving interaction with her husband likewise will produce tender leadership on his part.

    Submission doesn’t mean women become wimpy, doormat wives. Submission requires an inner strength to obey God and willingly submit to one’s husband. It means finding fulfillment and esteem in the godly role of a wife. If we all willingly and lovingly put others before ourselves, submission becomes a non-issue simple task. What a transformation such selflessness would make in a marriage, in a home, in our church!

  28. Verses 1-2 MSG “Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that.” Same verses AMP “Therefore be imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father]. And walk in love, [esteeming and delighting in one another] as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us, a [a]slain offering and sacrifice to God [for you, so that it became] a sweet fragrance.” Watch, do and learn…..all in love….MORE love!

  29. Look carefully then how you walk!     Having a self-evaluation is good to have in place. It cause us to think about our priorities and get them in order. And that a self-evaluation is enhance when we are guided by the Holy Ghost.

  30. 8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

    We are called to reflect light of God in our world. They are so in need of a way out. They seem to be going around in darkness going back to pains, hurts, sins… If only they could see what’s around in the middle of darkness. Imagine how much difference a candle does in a pitch dark room. Our actions, they way we live and speak should so reflect the Light of Jesus that others my find their way

  31. Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; (‭Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭19-20‬ KJV)

    This reminds me of when David encouraged himself in the Lord. Sometimes if we are going though something we need to encourage ourselves. This is easily one with prayer, scriptures, and song. He is a mighty God that hears our cries! Thank you Jesus that you are always with me!

  32. 1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

    What I learned about this scripture is that for I follow my God’s commands and his word,therefore I go forth and teach my gods word for the lost souls that are in needed of help, for that Iam a child of my god that he loves dearly. For I will never ignore my gods voice for that he speaks to me. For Iam a child of my god I will obey and do what he commands me to do.!!! In jesus Name !!!

    Psalm 39:1 I said, I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth while in the the presence of the wicked.

  33. For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. (‭Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭8-9‬ NLT)

    The more of God you have in your life, the brighter you shine. The more you push God away, the more darkness engulfs your life. As the body of Christ we should be the brightest light there is for every lost soul to see. Let’s light up this city POFW!

  34. More Life

    19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

    Proverbs 18:21
    Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

    Life and death are in the tongue, but what comes comes from the tongue is rooted in the heart and flows through the mind before reaching the lips. Speaking life starts with getting life planted in our hearts and meditating upon it. If our minds are filled with worry and cares, it will choke the seeds of life within our heart before it can become truly fruitful. More life comes in taking charge of our mind and fixing our thoughts on the Lord and His abundant life.

    Philippians 4:8
    Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

  35. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for because of these things God’s wrath is coming on the disobedient.
    Proverbs 17:28 The tongue of the wise makes knowledge appealing, but the mouth of a fool belches out foolishness. (NLT)
    We need to discern if we are listening to fools or to wise council.

  36. Ephesians 5:Follow Gods example therefore as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us Ada fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

  37. Ephesians 5:15-17
    See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
    verse 16
    Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
    verse 17
    Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

    in this verses Paul advise us to analyze our lifestyle,
    verse 15
    Walk circumspectly meaning to be prudent, careful, cautious.
    verse 16
    Utilize the present, equip ourselves with the word of God, prayer, fasting etc so that when the days are evil, we can be strong to overcome anything.
    verse 17
    prioritize what is important meaning, understand what the will of God IS in our life.

    Every person, every day, gets the same amount of time, but not every one of us gets the same results at the end of the day… and this is one of my struggles ( prioritizing).

    Lord help me prioritize my time wisely.

  39. For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret. But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them, for the light makes everything visible. This is why it is said, “Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light.” (‭Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭8-14‬ NLT)

    God is the light not only in the world but in everyone of us. His light shines through and if we do wrong it will come to the surface…it will show. That’s good though so we can see what we need to work on if we are that blinded. The more God the better, He makes us a better person no matter what and heals and protects us through many things.
