2 Timothy 3

1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their’s also was.

10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,

11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.

12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

  1. 10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,

    11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.

    Not only were people aware of what he stood for and his faith, but they also knew very well his troubles and afflictions. People see everything thing, whether they be sinners or saints they are watching. Without realizing it a lot of them are watching to see if we will still have purpose, faith, love and patience while we are in the middle of persecutions and afflictions.

  2. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

    17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

    Church.

    This is the reason I love church so I can go to a place to worship the Lord and seek His presence and hear a Word from heaven. What a glorious place to be.

    I love Jesus.

  3. Verses 14-17 MSG ” But don’t let it faze you. Stick with what you learned and believed, sure of the integrity of your teachers—why, you took in the sacred Scriptures with your mother’s milk! There’s nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.” One of the captions for this chapter says “Keep the Message Alive” and that is what we are here to do. I thank the Lord for a Pastor who always, always has scripture for what he preaches, teaches and instructs.

  4. 11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.

    No matter you situation, or circumstances God is a deliverer. So committed to the ways of righteousness. Living by his precious word he will always brings us through.
    Love the things of God more than your own way.
    Deny worldly lust and walk in the power of the Holy Ghost.

  5. 1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

    2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

    3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

    4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

    5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

    There is so much here in these scriptures that are relevant to our day, I have to condense my thoughts.
    The number one point is men have become lovers of their own selves, I see this as a major problem in today’s society. People only think of themselves and of what value is what they are doing going to be to them. I will do anything if it will not put me out or I do not have to go out of my way to do. People live their lives only considerate of what they are, others does not matter. We live in the most selfish generation we have ever lived in.
    Being selfish leads to a lot of these other problems, unthankful, covetous, trucebreakers, etc.
    People then have only a form of godliness, not real Godliness, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. When we look like Christians and act some what like Christians but are not really having a true love for God. This is only a form of godliness not the true act of God in our lives. We need to step up to the plate and become more like Christ and have a Christ like attitude. Become truly Thankful for the truth of the word of God in our lives be more than a shell but filled with The Holy Ghost!!

  6. 14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

    This isn’t a once saved always saved type of gospel. We must continue in the faith in order to make it to heaven. The bible tells us that we will rise the way we die. If you want to rise holy, then we must be holy. Holiness is not just a word, but it’s a life.

  7. 2 Timothy 3:14
    but continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of
    knowing of whom thou hast learned them.
    Amen

  8. iLove to eat MORE Word

    2 Timothy 3:16 NLT All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

    theh-op’-nyoo-stos
    From G2316 and a presumed derivative of G4154; divinely breathed in: – given by inspiration of God.

    We all have the Holy Ghost and we all read the same Bible. As we unitify together, we will all see the same truth because this truth is breathed by the same Spirit.

    Amen. Great chapter to start the day off with. As we go through this day, let us focus on the Word that we might walk in it with purity. Tonight, Pastor Shatwell is going to use this Word to cut each and everyone of us so lets come prepared.

  9. The antidote to apostasy
    More Antiquity

    2 Timothy 3:13-14 (KJV Strong’s)
    13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

    The apostle is saying to Timothy that things are going to get worse. People will be deceived, and deceive others. Perilous times mean no picnic for the church.

    The amplified version describes the snare the world is in.
    2 Timothy 3:2-5 (Amplified Bible – AMP)
    2 For people will be lovers of self and [utterly] self-centered, lovers of money and aroused by an inordinate [greedy] desire for wealth, proud and arrogant and contemptuous boasters. They will be abusive (blasphemous, scoffing), disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy and profane.
    3 [They will be] without natural [human] affection (callous and inhuman), relentless (admitting of no truce or appeasement); [they will be] slanderers (false accusers, troublemakers), intemperate and loose in morals and conduct, uncontrolled and fierce, haters of good.
    4 [They will be] treacherous [betrayers], rash, [and] inflated with self-conceit. [They will be] lovers of sensual pleasures and vain amusements more than and rather than lovers of God.
    5 For [although] they hold a form of piety (true religion), they deny and reject and are strangers to the power of it [their conduct belies the genuineness of their profession]. Avoid [all] such people [turn away from them].

    So how does a child of God avoid such apostasy?

    2 Timothy 3:14 (NIV)
    14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it,

    He is telling Timothy Remember what you have learned, stick to the old paths, and don’t forget who taught you these things

    The answer to avoiding apostasy is addiction to that old time religion. Inquire after the old paths, and don’t try and change the rules this far in the game. We don’t have time to innovate the gospel, and find some new fangled program to replace the cross and him crucified.

    Jeremiah 6:16 (KJV Strong’s)
    16 Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls…

    .

  10. No self control….

    You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that! (‭2 Timothy‬ ‭3‬:‭1-5‬ NLT)

    Wow, we are truly seeing this in today’s society!!!

    There is lack of prayer, the word of GOD, obedience, and lack of the Holy Ghost!!!

  11. KNOW MORE SCRIPTURE

    16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

    The WORD of GOD is the Bread of LIFE. ALL scripture is given by or from GOD and is profitable. To GAIN or INCREASE thereby. To KNOW MORE SCRIPTURE is the means by which believers become established, increased and blessed in Christ JESUS.

    Paul admonished Timothy in verses 10 – 15 in regards to proper relationship to and knowledge of the scripture. The GOSPEL of JESUS is not for sale and will never be discounted for any generation. We must CHOOSE who we will serve and our passionate hunger to KNOW MORE SCRIPTURE is the source of our Spiritual income in Christ JESUS and through HIS Kingdom and will.

    Thy Kingdom come and Thy Will be done in my life on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our Daily Bread.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray

  12. 15, “You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes from trusting in Jesus Christ.” (NLT)

    This is one of my favorite scriptures as a Sunday School teacher. To teach the children the Word of God, watch them grow in it, and see them receive salvation, (repentance, baptism in Jesus Name, and being filled with the Holy Ghost), when they learn to trust in Jesus. Then watching them grow up and seeing how God uses them for His kingdom.

  13. Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action), (‭2 Timothy‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ AMP)

    I love this book. I cannot get enough of this Word. Im so thankful for the Word of God.

  14. 14. But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you. NLT

    Don’t throw away what you have been taught by people you have learned to love and trust to follow the teachings of some Johnny-come-lately because you think if he lives in a multi-million dollar mansion or flies around in a jet then he must be worth listening to!

    1 Thessalonians 5:12
    And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; KJV

  15. In the last days people will love only thimselves and their money. They will be boasting and loud scoffing at God disobedient to their parents they will be unforgiving they will slander others and have no self control. They will be cruel and hate what is good they will have puffed up pride and love sin more than God they will act religious and not be and many more.
    HEY LOOK AROUND THIS IS THE WOURLD WE LIVE IN NOW.

  16. 2 Tim 3:5 Having a form of godliness but denying the power…..
    I believe this is talking about church folks. I do see this going on today. Timothy even says reprobate concerning the faith!
    Must be sure we love this truth, serving the Lord with ALL our hearts, to not ever become a reprobate!

  17. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
    17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
    I want to be equipped with Gods word! God is the word and I want to be teached by him! 🙂

  18. All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. (‭2 Timothy‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ NLT)

    Thank full for a God that is not quick to condemn us but he is willing to love and correct us through his scripture. When we know we’re wrong just look in the book and you’ll find an answer. Then we learn from failure so one day we can help others.

  19. 14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

    We cannot just pick and choose what we want to obey and disobey in the Bible. It is all there to help us make it to eternity in heaven. We cannot just throw out the things we do not want to apply to our lives. We must live by the Bible and by our faith!

  20. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

    3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

    4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

    5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

    We need to turn away from everything were doing wrong God sees everything.😌

  21. A incomplete map

    16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

    You cannot pick and choose what you want to do or what you want to discard. God has given us every word in his book to lead is back to him. If you forget one part of these directions you will get lost!

  22. Ignorantly Educated

    2Tim. 3:7 always learning and never able to jarrive at a knowledge of the truth.

    We live in an age that has increased drastically in knowledge, which is the time the prophet Daniel prophesied about in Dan 12:4 – “But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, until the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.””

    In the past 200 years, man’s knowledge has increased exponetially, especially in science. An article in the New York times approximates that 33.5% of Americans have a bachelors degree, and over 88% of people over 25 have graduated high school. We, in general, are a lot more educate than our ancestors as a whole. We have excelled in “knowledge” but our logic and reason has declined. We have become unwise with our lack of reverence to the Lord for “The voice of the LORD cries to the city— and it is sound wisdom to fear your name: “Hear of the rod and of him who appointed it!” (Mic 6:9 ESV)

    It is unfortanate that we are ever learning and never coming to the knowledge of the truth. In the world’s rebellion, they cling on to the will of man rather than the will of God. God wills that all become saved an come to the knowledge of truth (1 Tim 2:4), but people rather to reject truth. In this they are decieved and believe a lie. (2 Th 2:7-12)

    We must pray for truth to illuminate in the eyes of the deceived and delusional in hopes that they may see the error of their ways and come to the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

  23. 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

    My God. Thank you for the truth. Thank you for a church who is in righteousness. Thank you for the power that you have given us.

  24. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

    Lets keep our focus on the scripture so we may be righteous! Remember what Bro Wright taught us on Sunday…One of the reasons why Eve fell was because she did not know the Word of God!!!! The Word of God is our treasure, its what is going to keep us holy, righteous, and in the correct path. Its a book of commandments that have never changed and will never change because God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. You have corrected me for the good of my soul because you died for every one us so we may be able to have that to have the chance and be with you one day Jesus 🙂 Do not faint because His coming is near!!!

  25. 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

    There are so many people today that fit into this description. Many denominal Christians have a form of godliness but do not want anything more, they are content. They just need a hunger and thirst for his righteousness! I pray that people in this region of Ft. Worth want MORE!

  26. 14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

    16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

    17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

    The Word of God is the same today, yesterday and forever., it does not change like our God doesn’t change. We must know that everything we learn from his Word is true and we should apply it in our lives everyday. His Word will lift us up, comfort us, deliver us and even correct us, but we know that it is God speaking to us and it will lead us to righteousness and to do His will.

  27. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

    Thankful that our Lord and Savior could direct us through His Holy Word!!’ Thank you Jesus for your word is Health into my bones!!!

  28. 1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
    2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
    3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
    4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
    5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

    Disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God; these “small things” are all listed with so many other sins that are not so easily overlooked.
    As the church, we should be ready to lead by example, as we not only walk holy lives, but also as we lead our families so that they also live holy lives. As we let His light shine through us, the darkness around us will have to flee.

  29. 10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,

    11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.

    12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

    It’s not always roses but it is worth it all. Persecutions will come but if the Kingdom of God is already established in you, He will take care of you.

  30. 2 Timothy 3:5
    Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

    I been to a few churches in the past 10yrs, we lived a godly life, I was conform with just that, sad but true!
    Many people live this way conform with what we think is enough to” make it” to heaven.

    There needs to be a HUNGER inside of each and everyone of us in order to truly see that there is MORE than just been conform with.

    When I came to the POFW I was HUNGRY for something different, I wanted MORE.
    We need to pray for all those that have left the church and all the Fort Worth area that their and EXPLOSION OF HUNGER FOR GOD and when they come into the doors they feel that that’s were they need to be, just like I did.

  31. Thank you Jesus for your glory and mercy for that you’ve died on the cross for me and Sheded your blood upon me, for that I pray for the ministry for,I do in your kingdom I ask from you God that if you allow me to have confidence and concentration for that, I could feel the Holy Spirit hover over me when,I do the signs for that your worthy to have my praises and worships!!! In jesus Name Amen!!!

    Luke 22:32 But I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail.

    Colossians 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist

  32. 12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

    13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

    14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

    This is the world that we are living in today. It is Alsace that we are I the world but not of the world. That is harder to do than many think.

    We must be the shining light to all those around us and others can see the light of Christ through us.

  33. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”. The word of God (Jesus) is not something one can pick and choose from, all of the word of God (all of it) is to be obeyed. Dear God, help me to be aware of the hour; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  34. 14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

  35. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

    All wisdom leads back to the scripture! God is the author of wisdom, so though there are probably many good sources to find wisdom, the leading source is still the bible. And being that is always correct, it should be our number one source our way of living and our doctrine in life, a doctrine based solely on the bible is a doctrine that can not be argued with or refuted.

    Even when Jesus was tempted in the desert by Satan for Fourty days, he did state his title or how much more powerful he is, but he quoted the scripture to him and that is how we can fight back against the devil’s tactics today.

    Matthew 4:9-11 And saith unto him, all these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

  36. 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
    Sadly in todays society we see lots of people who are highly educated and knowledgeable but yet unable to decipher simple biblical truths. In the world people have consumed themselves with worldly knowledge and have shunned the truth of God. It is time that the church rise up and get educated in the word of God and doctrine. Its time that we focus are attention and energy into obtaining kingdom knowledge and wisdom because only what we do for christ will last.

  37. And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. (‭2 Timothy‬ ‭3‬:‭15‬ KJV)

    It is very important to have a children’s ministry as well as ministries for children to be involved in. Through these things we can teach the truth of salvation to children and train them to keep this promise in their hearts as they grow up to teach the next generation.

    Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭22‬:‭6‬ KJV)

  38. vss. 17 & 11 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

    v11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.

    Paul speaks once again of perfection in verse 17
    Greek word KARTIZO which means to be perfect and means to be equipped or to be complete.
    That let’s us know that the only way we are going to make it. One should be complete and equipped for spiritual battle. Daily putting on the whole armor of God.
    We must be prepared as we walk through this pathway of trouble ,persecutions, and afflictions.
    This preparation comes through preaching and teaching of the word of GOD.
    READING TGE WORD OF GOD , PRAYER AND FASTING.
    The hardships that we face in life is not to obtain sympathy, but to know there is HOPE in the midst of our difficulties.
    THE LORD WILL DELIVER US OUT OF THEM ALL.
    PRAISE GOD !!!!

  39. 14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

    15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

    16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

    We must continue putting the word of God in our hearts. We never know in the hour we live in, the endtime is coming when we may not have access to our bibles. We must know the word and know how to use it. We also must know how to use the word when we are praying to bring the greatest results.

  40. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

    17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

    It’s only by the word of God that we can keep a life that leads to be more like Jesus. More righteous, more holy, a good and faithful servant. It the word that guides and corrects our ways.

  41. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

    17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

    The testimony of God’s Holy Word is that it is his breath and that it is everything to believers. The book of Deuteronomy 32:46;47 records that when moses had finished writing the words of the law and had given it to the Levites to place beside the ark and had sung his song, the song of Moses, he said, “Take heart all the words by which I am warning you today, that you may command them to your children, that they may be careful to do all the words of this law. For it is no empty word for you, but your very life”.

    Matt 4:4
    Jesus when he was tempted by satan he declared that man should not live by bread alone, they were life to Moses and food to Jesus. They cannot and must not be anything less to us. They are the very breath of God.

  42. Perilous times !!!! 1. THIS know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3. Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Rom. 1 : 31 4. Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Php. 3 : 19 5. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 2 Thess. 3 : 6 6. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Matt. 23 : 14 7. Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. I worship you in spirit and in truth !!!!
