Hebrews 11

1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.

3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

12 Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.

13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.

15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.

16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,

18 Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:

19 Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.

20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.

21 By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.

22 By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.

23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.

24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;

25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.

27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

28 Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.

29 By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.

30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.

31 By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.

32 And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:

33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions.

34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.

35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

36 And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;

38 (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:

40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

  1. 16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

Now we desire a better country, the greatest desire of all this is we know if we hold true to the faith in God. We want God not to be ashamed of us because of our faith in God and look forward to that day and place he has prepared for us. A new Heaven and a new Earth a place of rest for the people of God.

  2. 4. By faith Abel…
    5. By faith Enoch…
    7. By faith Noah…
    8. By faith Abraham…and on and on…

When my life is over and they are telling my story, will they be able to start it: “By faith Brad…”? Am I doing anything requiring faith or even worthy of recording?

    James 2:17-18
    17. Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

    18. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. KJV

  3. Wow….what a chapter…..in the MSG it is captioned “Faith in What We Don’t See”…”The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd.” In the NLT it is captioned “Faith in Action” and the NLT “Great Examples of Faith”.

Verse 6 KJV “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Faith…Faith…Faith….just a little bit of Faith….put it to action and SEE!

  4. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Hallelujah! Such beautiful chapter….faith is the substance of EVERYTHING! If we don’t believe were not pleasing Him. Before I was introduced to the gospel I had always believed that there was a God but I had never experienced or realized how BIG my God is! He literally gives us everything we need especially when we cry out to Him because I have been a witness of His great mercy and love! Many people might ask themselves is there really is a God, how do we know the bible wasn’t translated wrong, why does God have me in this situation, and etc. All we gotta do is BELIEVE AND TRUST IN HIM!!!! He is perfect and will always know what’s best for us. Always your will Jesus and not my own! Thank you Jesus! In you I trust!
    MORE FAITH!

  5. iLove to eat MORE Word

Hebrews 11:35 NLT But others were tortured, refusing to turn from God in order to be set free. They placed their hope in a better life after the resurrection. 36 Some were jeered at, and their backs were cut open with whips. Others were chained in prisons. 37 Some died by stoning, some were sawed in half, and others were killed with the sword. Some went about wearing skins of sheep and goats, destitute and oppressed and mistreated. 38 They were too good for this world, wandering over deserts and mountains, hiding in caves and holes in the ground.39 All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith, yet none of them received all that God had promised. 40 For God had something better in mind for us, so that they would not reach perfection without us.

No one said that living for Jesus would be easy. In America, we imagine that persecution is someone talking bad about us. We were blessed that America was founded on Christian principles, however, it appears that the pagans are staging an uprising. We must pray that great revival would happen in America!

  6. Hebrews 11:30
By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were compassed about seven days.

we always have to have faith and peace and more revival and soon we will have the walls falling down here in Fort Worth Texas if we just trust in what god wants us to do . AMEN

  7. A whole chapter that reiterates how important faith is. It’s faith in God, not self, that allows the miraculous to take place. Once we move self out of the way and put God first we can see the same miraculous circumstances start coming to pass in our lives.

  8. MORE FAITH

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (‭Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭6‬ KJV)

Seeing that it is impossible for us to please GOD living in fear or sin. Our primary focus and goal should be to build or gain MORE FAITH.

Reading, Hearing and Sharing the Word of GOD is our greatest opportunity to build MORE FAITH.

Begin today to share something that JESUS has done for you or something you have witnessed HIM do for others.

  9. By faith.
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see. (NET)

Heb. 11:1 ¶ The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see. (MSG)
We trust in God. That makes life worth living. Every word God gives us will come to pass. We have a relationship with Him and He speaks to us. We can remain confident in what He says. Even if we can’t see it, we know that it is true. We walk by faith not by sight.

  10. Faith is no guarantee of earthly success through faith has won great victories. What acts of faith do guarantee it that we will please God and ultimately be rewarded by him.

  11. 3 By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.

We’ve come this far by faith
    Leaning on the LORD
    Trusting in His Holy Word
    He never failed me
    Oh’ can’t turn around
We’ve come this far by faith

  12. 6, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
11, “Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.”

Verse 11 will always have a special place in my heart. I had been praying for a child for around 2 years, and one day when I was reading this chapter, verse 11 jumped out of the page at me. A short time later, God spoke to me in a Sunday night service and told me that if I fasted for 3 days I would get pregnant. True to His word and an act of my obedience and Faith to His Word, I know have a wonderful 24 year old son, Timothy.

God is FAITHFUL to His promises. We must have FAITH and Believe that He can do the impossible. NOTHING is to hard for Our God!

    MORE FAITH!!

  13. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Without faith it is impossible. Impossible for what? Anything! Without faith we doubt God, and in doubting God we are lost and blind to the rewards He desires to bless us with.

  14. The biblical definition of faith does not apply only to salvation. It is equally applicable to the rest of the Christian life. We are to believe what the Bible says, and we are to obey it. We are to believe the promises of God, and we are to live accordingly. We are to agree with the truth of God’s Word, and we are to allow ourselves to be transformed by it Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Why is this definition of faith so important? Why must trust accompany agreeing with facts? Because “without faith, it is impossible to please God” Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Without faith, we cannot be saved John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Without faith, the Christian life cannot be what God intends it to be John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

  15. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

These are sometimes easy words to speak. Absolute faith, for people who have been damaged by life is sometimes a little harder to demonstrate and believe in. I was one who has been damaged by life. However, I have overcome! Do we have more trust in a light switch on the wall to illuminate a room than we do in our Heavenly Father? Do we trust more in the ignition system of our vehicle than we do in The One who died for us? Our faith in the Lord should be a routine as if we were turning on the lights or starting our vehicle.

  16. 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

The way things are said or perceived sometimes change the entire meaning of the sentence. For instance: Now, faith is the substance of…. tells us that faith is the substance of things hoped for, but if the sentence reads: NOW FAITH, it puts an entirely different accent on the word NOW to let us know that NOW FAITH is present faith, faith that is active at that very moment, faith that is going to respond with the believing power for something to happen. Many times we respond “in faith” nonchalantly with a yes that will happen, but when we put the emphasis on the NOW, it makes it an urgency, NOW FAITH, faith that is present, faith that is active in our everyday life, faith that is alive and power…. it changes the entire meaning of what type of faith we should exercise.

  17. Faith. We all have it. We all use it. But we don’t know or understand the power that is within it. Your mountain can be moved with faith. Your situation can be changed through faith. Even your outlook on life can be for the better through faith.

    Faith.
    It’s where it’s at.

    More faith.
    More love.
    More revival.
    More 440

  18. Hebrews 11: 1 now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at Gods command so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

  19. Faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains. Imagine what could happen with large faith! Take your hands away and have the faith to see what God will do!

  20. Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. (‭Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭1‬ NLT)

    MORE FAITH

We have to have faith. We need to live our lives by faith walking and hoping to get what God has promised us. We go through hard times as a test of our faith to see if we will go through it and keep our feet grounded in Christ or will we lose it and turn away from him. All theses men and women in the bible struggled and went through the worse but prevailed because they had un-stoppable faith. Went through the struggles to become the men and women they were meant to be in the beginning. The cocoon stage is a key element in our lives. It’s the transformation of what is yet to come. Then the butterfly is born and we are Un-stoppable. Let God mold you and keep your faith.
Keep your faith fight the good fight.

I still have faith… I know the things my God can do.

How do you gain faith? MORE prayer and MORE of the word of God.

    MORE OF HIM.

  21. Hebrews 11:35 (NLT)
35 Women received their loved ones back again from death.
But others were tortured, refusing to turn from God in order to be set free. They placed their hope in a better life after the resurrection.

Many chose to be killed for the sake of Christ knowing being faithful to the end would be far greater worth than denying, even if only temporarily.

The cause of Christ is the greatest cause of all. We must understand that whatever suffering, pain, heartache, and despair we experience here will all be worth it one day when we see Jesus and step into glory land.

  22. 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
This chapter reminds me of the song:
Faith Faith Faith just a little bit of faith it doesn’t take a whole lot just use what you got faith faith faith just a little bit of faith.

  23. 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

By Faith… We have example after example of what men accomplished with having faith in God. Reading this chapter should lift us up and encourage us to do the impossible. If we take notice, the greater miracles had a greater impossibility where God, and God alone gets glory. I’ve heard the saying if there is a will there is a way… Imagine adding on the power of God, and God’s will to it. The thing is faith requires action…requires work. We need to work as it depends on us and pray as it is all up to Jesus. Now, faith is…. Fill in the blank in your life.

I Can do all things through Christ.

  24. 32 And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:

33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions.

Through Faith in him, God has promised us all many things if we believe in him, this chapter gives many examples of people who had great faith in God and what it did for them in their lives. One of the devil’s number one tactics he uses against us is to get us doubt God and not have faith in his word and what God has promised. But the devil is liar and the bible proves him as one, if we keep the faith and trust in his word, there is nothing too hard for God, he makes us capable of doing many awesome works through his strength and power.

  25. Heroes of the Faith

In this all-star list of heroes of the faith, two women stand out Sarah and Rahab (vs 11,31). Both strong women who trusted in God, these spiritual sisters had had a profound impact on the nation of Israel. Sarah was barren when God told her husband Abraham, that he would make her mother of nations (Gen 17:15-19). By faith they believed, and God’s promise was fulfilled when Issac was born. Both Abraham and Issac are listed as ancestors of Jesus (Mat 1:2). Rahab, a prostitute who lived in the city of Jericho, helped the nation of Israel by hiding the men sent to spy out the city (Jos 2:1-14). When Jericho collapsed, Rahab and her family were spared and embraced by God’s people (Jos 6:25). Rahab, though at first a prostitute, was one of the faithful. She too is in the geneology of Jesus, a grafted in branch (Mat1:5). The faithful also include women who recieved loved ones back from the dead (vs35) like Zarephath (1 Ki 17:17-23) and the woman of Shunem (2Ki 4:18-37). It is impossible to please God without faith. When we humble ourselves and operate in faith God takes thw wheel. People are hungry for the Word “longing for a better country-a heavenly one” (vs16) “Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.” Heaven is for the faithful.

  26. “And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets”. There was great feats obtained because of their faith, just as there is also great power in ones faith in God (Jesus) and his promises. There have been many proclamations made that shall come to pass, if one will but have faith. Dear God, as I stand upon your word and your promises, my faith shall increase the more; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. In God we trust! What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  27. He chose to share the oppression of God’s people instead of enjoying the fleeting pleasures of sin. (‭Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭25‬ NLT)

The price one has to pay in order to be faithful to God isn’t always easy. This scripture shows how Moses, a leader of many, stayed faithful to reaching people instead of falling into the pleasures of sin. He showed that the journey isn’t always easy but the promise, Gods promise, is eternal.
Life here on earth may be rough but if we are faithful to Him, we will be blessed in the end. Glory be to God! God is good!

  28. Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation.

By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight. Women received their loved ones back again from death. But others were tortured, refusing to turn from God in order to be set free. They placed their hope in a better life after the resurrection. Some were jeered at, and their backs were cut open with whips. Others were chained in prisons. Some died by stoning, some were sawed in half, and others were killed with the sword. Some went about wearing skins of sheep and goats, destitute and oppressed and mistreated. They were too good for this world, wandering over deserts and mountains, hiding in caves and holes in the ground. All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith, yet none of them received all that God had promised. (‭Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭1-2, 33-39‬ NLT)

All these things people did was with faith and the help of God. If we kept our faith strong just imagine what could be done. These people believed so much in God they paid a price to show their faith in Him. How much would you give or do for God? How much faith do you have in God? We need to ask ourselves these questions…

I know I can’t do enough for what God has done for me..but that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop. I will continue to surve Him and praise and glorify His name because He deserves it all!! THANK YOU GOD FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE, DID AND WILL DO IN MY LIFE AND ALL THOSE AROUND ME!!

  29. 25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
Lord, I pray for a stronger faith like this.

  30. Hebrews 11:39,40 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise : God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

Genuine faith perseveres to the end; emotional decisions do not. True faith continues to believe the truth. Once again, the author shows the superiority of the new covenant. God save this better thing, or the fulfillment of the promise, for this age. In fact, without those of the new covenant, even the mightiest champion of faith from the Old Testament could not be made perfect.

  31. Tremendous Sriptures
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (‭Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭1, 6‬ KJV)

These are so simple and yet so difficult. It is such a simple concept but so hard to put into practice. This chapter is full of people who walked it out either waiting long periods of time or after they died it came to pass. What a testiment. Jesus help me to have great faith like these saints.

  32. The great chapter of Faith declaires that without Faith all these wonderful and mighty things that we lean on for our lives examples would not be read about today if it weren’t for the great men and womans unparalleled Faith. What would it take for us to written of this way. That by faith we did the miraculous, by faith we saw the world change…. We have to exercise our faith or it will become lazy.

  33. 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

God I come to you tonite father, with confidence in you lord Jesus christ, for I trust you God that you have strength that I need that is in your hands father, for confidence is the solidity of things hoped for the corrobation of things not seen. I am not asking, Lord, that you take this trial away. Instead, I simply ask that Your will be done in my life. Whatever that means, that is what I want God. I admit God that it’s hard, Lord to live without you ,sometimes I feel like I can’t go on. The pain and the fear are too much for me, and I know that I don’t have the strength on my own to get through this.I know that I can come to you, Jesus, and that you will hear my prayer. I know that it is not your intent to bring me to this point just to leave me in the wilderness alone. In Jesus Name Amen!!!!!

2 Corinthians 7:16 I rejoice therefore that I have confidence in you in all things.

Colossians 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist

Luke 22:32 But I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail.

Psalm 37:24 Though he fall he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles;they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

NEED MORE OF THE WORD !!!!

  34. 8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

Faith is to step when he says step, go when says go even if we don’t know what’s waiting for us. I want that faith!

  35. Faith !!!! 6. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. I LOVE YOU JESUS !!!!

  36. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

This speaks a lot about why I struggled to receive the Holy Spirit for such a long time. Knowing God and about God are two different things. I’ve always believed to until some one receives the Holy Spirit he or she unknowingly is an atheist. You will never convince a Holy Ghost filled, tongue talking believer that God doesn’t exist. Doubt will haunt you until you surrender all to Him.
