Hebrews 12

1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;

13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

18 For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,

19 And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:

20 (For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:

21 And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)

22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,

23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,

24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:

26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.

27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:

29 For our God is a consuming fire.

  1. 14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

You can’t be holy and have division with your brother or sister and expect to make it to heaven. The scripture says both must be in order for us to see God. I believe getting along with each other without anything in the way is important to God. If it’s important to God, then it must be one of things that have to be done in order for us to make it to heaven. My desire is to see Jesus, so I must remove anything in my life that would hinder that meeting.

  2. 1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

We are compassed with so much in this day as the disciples was in that day. The laying aside of anything that will hinder our walk with God and the ability to be a great witness is of great importance. We need to run with all the power we can put together in this day, we must run if we want to make it to the end. We must have a purpose in our running, not just running to be running, to reach our goal at the end of our journey. I pray to God everyday, Lord let me run this race with faith in you and the reward. We need God to help us in our daily walk with him, guide us by looking at him who can take us to the promised land.

  3. 6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

I prefer for God to chastise me than to be punish in hell for all eternity.

  4. Verses 1-3 MSG “Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!” All anyone has to do is read the news and see how everything is coming to pass. This is why we have to embrace the discipline in this long-distance race and never quit.

  5. 18. For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,

    19. And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:

    22. But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,

We are no longer commanded to stay away from God’s presence, but are encouraged and welcomed with open arms to come to Him!

    Come running,
    Come running,
Come running to the Mercy Seat…

What a great song, and what a great job by all of the sign teams!

  6. Consider Christ

    Hebrews 12:3
For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

We are to look to Christ and the cross for confidence. Whatever we go through in life, is worth it. When we feel down from persecution, remember the cross. Jesus set the example of perseverance. We too can make it. We just need to endure.

  7. More peace and holiness

    Hebrews 12:14 (AMP)
14 Strive to live in peace with everybody and pursue that consecration and holiness without which no one will [ever] see the Lord.

We can look the part on the outside, but if our relationships do not reflect our outer holiness then we miss the mark.

This is the same as saying inner and outer holiness. Inner holiness is holiness of the mind, heart, soul. This is holiness that determines our character, integrity, and daily decisions.

Our outer holiness is just as important. We need to remain separate from the world and prayerfully consider what we allow to enter the portals of our senses.

However if we are living righteously by keeping the rules but we are involved in gossip, backbiting, evil speaking, complaining, and ridiculing we void our outer holiness.

Like the preacher says you can put a tuxedo on a pig but they are still a pig.

Our daily walk with God should produce an inner as well as outer transformation. The more we walk with him the more we will see the inner man begin to influence and change the outer man.

  8. Heb 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.

It doesn’t say our God is LIKE a consuming fire, it says HE IS a consuming fire! When fire is applied to something it takes it completely over. It tears it down, recreates, or (under the intense heat) makes a material expand. In most applications a consuming fire will CHANGE the chemical make up of a material so that it is completely different from what it was before(Hallelujah, are you with me?), to where it serves a different purpose. When you open yourself up to the ALL CONSUMING FIRE OF OUR LORD, transformations take place. What once was dies and something completely remade errupts from the ashes.
    Amen!!!

  9. iLove to eat More Word

Hebrews 12:11 NLT No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.12So take a new grip with your tired hands and strengthen your weak knees. 13Mark out a straight path for your feet so that those who are weak and lame will not fall but become strong.

Thank the Lord for His painful discipline. It hurts the heart when it comes but produces great fruit. Thank-You Jesus for more chances to get it right even when we fail you. The Lord is full of grace and mercy and his thoughts toward us are everlasting and cannot be numbered. He has our best interest at hand.

    chastening G3809
    παιδεία
    paideia
    pahee-di’-ah
From G3811; tutorage, that is, education or training; by implication disciplinary correction: – chastening, chastisement, instruction, nurture.
    Total KJV occurrences: 6

  10. 10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Being chastened is never fun, whether physical or spiritual. Parents discipline their children to try and help them grow into respectable adults that can contribute to society. God chastened his children to help guide them into holiness and righteousness. Without which we cannot be with Him.

  11. Hebrews 12:14
Follow peace with all men and holiness without which no man shall see the lord.

We need to follow holiness with all men and have peace and faith for what god wants to do for us have prayer and grace and of course MORE Revival AMEN

  12. 9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

Amen! HALLELJUAH! If our own parents discipline us because they love us how much MORE does Jesus love us. Nobody else loves us like He does, nobody has suffered what he suffered for us, and nobody has died for us so we could be free from sin. Don’t let the Word hurt your feelings because I know my parents have hurt my feelings plenty of times but because they love me and want the best for me. Be my guidance Jesus because I can’t do this on my own. Thank you for your Word 🙂

  13. MORE FIRE

28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
29 For our God is a consuming fire.

Expectation is the combustion to and for Spiritual Passion. (The FIRE of the LORD) As we live for GOD, reading and studying HIS WORD, we naturally inherit divine expectation, which generates Spiritual Passion. As we saturate our minds with the WORD of GOD we prepare it for the FIRE of GOD (Holy Ghost) to fall on us and we are consumed in our life by HIM.

Receiving HIS Kingdom is not only through the WORD of GOD, but also by submission to Spiritual Authority, fervent Prayer, sincere Worship, sacrificial Giving, faithful Evangelism, high Praise.

GOD is searching for vessels willing to be consumed.

Consuming – 2654. katanalisko, kat-an-al-is´-ko; to consume utterly: — consume.

GOD seeks to possess ALL of us, not just the parts that we are willing to allow HIM to be on FIRE we are called to be willing to be ALL in for whatever HE desires for us.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  14. vs-16
Esau is an example of the godless in that he saw absolutely no value in spiritual things and so traded his birthright to Gods covenant promise for a bowlof stew. If you and i value only the material rather than the spiritual we too will miss the blessing.

  15. 5 And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children? He said, “My child, don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline, and don’t give up when he corrects you.
6 For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.” (NLT)

How awesome is our God that He loves us too much to just let us wander off and do our own thing. I am grateful for the correction the Lord gives, when He does so we should accept it and say, “Thank You Jesus” because without His correction who knows where we would be or who we would become.

  16. And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children? He said, “My child, don’t make light of the LORD’s discipline, and don’t give up when he corrects you. For the LORD disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.” As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father? If God doesn’t discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children at all. Since we respected our earthly fathers who disciplined us, shouldn’t we submit even more to the discipline of the Father of our spirits, and live forever? For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God’s discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness. No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. So take a new grip with your tired hands and strengthen your weak knees. Mark out a straight path for your feet so that those who are weak and lame will not fall but become strong. (‭Hebrews‬ ‭12‬:‭5-13‬ NLT)

Discipline is a hard thing for anyone. No one likes being corrected, but we should. It’s a time for learning and the correction and discipline from God is showing we are His which we should be happy about that. Imagine if God didn’t discipline you? That’s a horrible feeling.

God continue to correct me and show me when I’m wrong and show me the truth.

But with God His correction is not just discipline we get more from God and His discipline. So don’t walk away from God if your corrected stay strong because that’s God showing you are His child and He is helping you.

Thank You God for correcting me even when I shut You out….Thank You for everything, I LOVE YOU JESUS!

  17. 16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

Walking outside of submission to authority literally is telling the Lord that we are selling our birthright – that it is not important to us any longer to follow the structure that He has in place for His children to walk after. Just like Esau, if we continue in that manner, we will find to place of repentance.

  18. 1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Many have gone before us, fathers & pioneers of our faith through many generations. Each one has had to look to our Lord and Savior for guidance. Jesus knows what each of us and each generation faces and we must look to his word to for the way.

  19. Hebrews 12:1 Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses let us throw off everything that hinders and the sinthat so easily entangles. And let run with perseverance the racemarked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross scorning this shame and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endure such opposition from sinners so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

  20. 10, “For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.”
11, “Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.”

So thankful that my parents loved me and corrected me, so that I could grow up and be a good and respectable person.
So thankful that God loves me and corrects me, so that I can be a partaker of his holiness.

  21. “This is going to hurt me more than it hurts you…” Anyone’s parents every said that to them? Well, when I was a child I did not believe them. Whippings hurt. Hurt feelings hurt. Disappointing my parents and grandparents hurt. How could they hurt worse than me? I was the one getting the whipping and feeling terrible for something I had or neglected to do.

If you have no children you cannot understand. You may empathize but you cannot understand until you have to discipline your own child for their own good and safety. There are different parenting techniques, theories and philosophies but generally parents love their children and only want joy and happiness for them. However, it is a child’s job – their duty – to test their limits. Not only their own limits but the limits their parental figures will allow before consequences. As stated in this chapter we correct because we love. We want our children to be safe. If they are involved in unsafe activities we as parents must resolve the situation.

There are times when we must allow our children to make their own mistakes and stand on their own. It is very hard to do. When they are learning to ride a bicycle and they fall and you can tell they hurt their knee, hand, leg, etc… our first instinct is to run to the child and comfort them. We must refrain at times from offering immediate help and comfort. They must learn what it takes to get back up on their own and decide for themselves if they want to get back on the bicycle or give up.

  22. Revival comes through unity. We can’t have unity if we have ought against our brother or sister. We need to examine ourselves and our relationships to ensure we are not a hindrance to the revival!

  23. 1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
We need to put away all those things that hender us and prevent from doing Gods work. Jesus endured the suffering and pain on the cross so we need to be paitent while running this corse. Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith , quit doubting God. God is able to see you tgru .

  24. 11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

    12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;

13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

I never want to get to the point that I am not able to take correction.. teachable is the spirit that I always want to posses and one that I feel we all as children of God should strive to perfect. Although it may not seem fun or even good at the time someone who is teachable not only learns from their own mistakes, but also from the mistakes of others. Teach me Lord, correct me, make my paths strait

  25. 1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Paul is never weary of enforcing, the need of faith and patience for all who would inherit the promises. The connection is found with the last verses of Hebrews 11, which are, indeed, a summary of the whole chapter. The purpose of God has been that those who throughout the past ages (heroes of faith from the last chapter) obtained witness of Him through their faith should not reach completion apart from us. Let us press forward to that finish line. It’s in the view of Christ’s accomplished sacrifice, and is all future in regard of personal attainment. As those who have preceded us has reached the goal, each one for himself, by faith and patient endurance, so must we. The thought of persevering effort crowned and rewarded (Hebrews 6:12; Hebrews 6:18; Hebrews 10:35-39) suggesting the imagery of the public games (by this time familiar even to Jews), to which Paul in his Epistles talks about, when he mentions training, and running. We will need patience and discipline to finish the spiritual race set before us.

  26. 8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

Thank you Jesus. For our fathers who live after you. As I was reading this. I thought of pastor. He is a spiritual father to many of us at POFW. Thank God that he is in love with Jesus and wants what he wants.
    More revival.

  27. Lay aside !!!! 1. WHEREFORE seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2. Looking unto je’-sus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Ps. 110 : 1 I LOVE YOU JESUS !!!! I AM CLAIMING VICTORY !!!!

  28. Remember, once the whoopings are done, it’s going to be O.K. But, don’t run away nor freeze up. “God chasten those he loves”……………………………………

Another reference to the next verse is listed below, just think about it. We are consumed and baptized in fire.

29 For our God is a consuming fire.

    Matthew 3:11King James Version (KJV)

    “CATCH THE FIRE”………………………………………………………………

  29. 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
    The Invincible Jesus!!!!!!

  30. 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness

Lord I never want to stop feeling conviction and correction. It is hard at first but the more I mature I realize my convictions keeps me safe and your corrections keeps me saved. Jesus today you save me.

  31. “See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven.” One is wise to hear and obey while one has free will, for there is coming a day when all, will have no choice but to hear and obey. Dear God, help me to truly hear and willingly obey; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. In God we trust! What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  32. 12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;

God I come to you today lord Jesus Christ, I thank you Lord, for being there for me and allowing me to cry out to you in my times of need. Therefore I ask you lord Jesus christ if you can strengthen me through my feeble arms and my weak knees for I believe that you can heal me in your mighty name Jesus,It is amazing to me that the Lord of the Universe would take time to listen to me and to care about what I say. Thank you Lord Jesus christ!!! In Jesus name Amen !!!!

Phillippians 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 7:16 I rejoice therefore that I have confidence in you in all things.

  33. 26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.

As the scripture goes spoken by Jesus in the book of Matthew “Let thy will be done on earth as it in heaven”. In the heavenlies there is already a shaking in the spirit, we can see it because God has given clues in the signs of the times. We are entering into the last days and with these last days the bible has promised would come a great outpouring of the spirit.

It is already here, but we need to seize this opportunity and proclaim it in Jesus name. And also put our faith into action as we reach the lost and the people wanting to hear his word. When we reach people to his kingdom, we bring heaven down to earth which allows God to pour out his spirit to touch people who need him the most.

  34. 5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

We should be happy when the Pastor or a minister of God or even one of our fellow saints correct is with rightiusness. This means we are loved of God. Without the chastening of the ministry we become fatherless this scripture declares. Both my natural father and my creator Father are in heaven but I have one here in our Pastor that I pray would correct me. This scripture basically tells you not to get mad when he corrects you. He loves you!

  35. When God spoke from Mount Sinai his voice shook the earth, but now he makes another promise: “Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also.” This means that all of creation will be shaken and removed, so that only unshakable things will remain. (‭Hebrews‬ ‭12‬:‭26-27‬ NLT)

How sturdy is your foundation with Christ? If you are easily swayed by the pressures of this world you will be removed from the chosen ones who have planted themselves deep in a relationship, an unbreakable bond, with Jesus. Your bond should be more than going to church once or twice a week, you need to have intimate one on one conversations all week long. Everyday you have an opportunity to reach out to Him as He reaches out to us. Take the time to build that bond, that foundation, or get left behind..

  36. 5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

Correction is good.  Sometimes we want to run from a chastening and complain of the pain… But, let’s think of the investment being made  out of love.  When we are young and immature we do things that if left uncorrected will cause serious damage in the long run.  We just want it our way and in our time.  However, life doesn’t work that way.  When a parent chastenes their children is because the want to correct the way they are doing things that are damaging like thought processes, patterns of behaviors, disrespectful, not listening..and the list goes on, you name it.  It all has to do with with keeping boundaries, commandments, precepts, the word of God.  Why? That it may go well with you.  When we are chastened it redirects our path in the way of blessing and righteousness.  A good father wants to see his children do good.

  37. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

It is so easy for us tocomplain about to to someone very often. This complaining is not following peace. It is destroying relationship and tearing us all apart.

  38. 1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Not just sin , but the weight (cares ) of LIFE slow us down, and many times sidetrack us. Because we are called to run with patience, we cannot allow the weights o life or sin to aggravate us, and cause us to lose out.
