Hebrews 13

1 Let brotherly love continue.

2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

3 Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.

4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

10 We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.

11 For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.

12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.

13 Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.

14 For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.

15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

18 Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.

19 But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.

20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

22 And I beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words.

23 Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty; with whom, if he come shortly, I will see you.

24 Salute all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints. They of Italy salute you.

25 Grace be with you all. Amen.

  1. 14. For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come. NLT

    Oh Lord, you know
I have no friend like you
    If heaven’s not my home
Then Lord what will I do?

    The angels beckon me
    From heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home
    In this world any more

This world is not my home
    I’m just passing through
    My treasures are laid up
    Somewhere beyond the blue.

    The angels beckon me
    From heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home
    In this world anymore.

  2. 9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

10 We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.

The days of strange doctrines are still alive, we should all search through all the doctrines we see to be sure they are all established in the word of God. We need to see how that doctrine can do more than just make us feel good. We do live in the feel good generation, what we want is what makes us feel good. All messages should not be to make us feel good, but know we have made things right with God. We should go to altar with our questions, that altar is Jesus Christ!

  3. He’s been faithful to me.

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. (‭Hebrews‬ ‭13‬:‭5-6‬ KJV)

  4. This chapter goes hand in hand with what Bishop Foster taught on last night. Verses 7-8 MSG “Appreciate your pastoral leaders who gave you the Word of God. Take a good look at the way they live, and let their faithfulness instruct you, as well as their truthfulness. There should be a consistency that runs through us all. For Jesus doesn’t change—yesterday, today, tomorrow, he’s always totally himself.” The beginning of this chapter talks about hospitality and honor. How do we do these things, verses 16-17 MSG say “Make sure you don’t take things for granted and go slack in working for the common good; share what you have with others. God takes particular pleasure in acts of worship—a different kind of “sacrifice”—that take place in kitchen and workplace and on the streets. Be responsive to your pastoral leaders. Listen to their counsel. They are alert to the condition of your lives and work under the strict supervision of God. Contribute to the joy of their leadership, not its drudgery. Why would you want to make things harder for them?”

The end of the chapter spoke to me about putting yourself out there and doing your part. A lot of people say “Use me Lord” or “Make me who you want me to be”; but, we must allow God to correct us, mold us and do our part. Hear IT, Speak IT and Do IT. If your not willing, then how are you going to get others to?

  5. iLove to eat More Word

Hebrews 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Wow, this is an amazing text this morning.
    submit#G5226
    ὑπείκω
From G5259 and εἴκω eikō (to yield, be “weak”); to surrender: – submit self.

In order to be profitable, we must submit to the man of God. True submission is tested when we want to do something but the man of God tells us “I’d hold off on that for awhile.” True submission brings profit. True submission is our mission under the mission of the man of God. It’s trust in the man of God. I want to profit and therefore I choose this day to submit!

  6. Let brotherly love continue.

Amen. This is my prayer today. Some people will brush us off…but through discernment you can tell if someone really loves you,me. We just keep on loving people for.who they are.
Thank you for Your Word today Lord.

  7. Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ the same yesterday and to day and forever.

We have have to have Jesus Christ in are lifd no matter if he is the same as yesterday and today because jesus stays the same forever . MORE Faith , MORE Prayers , and MORE Revival. AMEN

  8. When 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness: and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Be happy with what you have! If GOD wanted you to have more, He would bless you with it. Carrying on, saying “I wish I had this, I wish I had that” is rather foolish and breeds unrest in your heart. Then it is easy to be lead away from the righteous path.

  9. The sacrifice FOR praise

    Hebrews 13:15 (KJV Strong’s)
15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

    Hebrews 13:15 (AMP)
15 Through Him, therefore, let us constantly and at all times offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, which is the fruit of lips that thankfully acknowledge and confess and glorify His name.

Let us offer a sacrifice. What is being sacrificed? What are we laying down on the altar?

It is not a sacrifice to say thank you Jesus, Hallelujah, Glory to God. What could he possibly mean by this?

A sacrifice is by definition anything of value we give up in exchange for something or greater value.

Now it becomes more clear. The sacrifice we give up are thing like: “a piece of my mind”, “did you hear what they said/did”, “what they should have done was”, and the often used “I blame them for this”.

When we offer a sacrifice of praise we take a step back, keep the negative-death words from coming out, and instead speak life, thanks unto God.

We can say we are thankful, and that we trust God but our attitude will speak louder than our voice.

Instead of it being a sacrifice of praise I think it should be a sacrifice FOR praise. We are sacrificing what we could say to instead give thanks to his name.

When we find ourselves in a calamity we can be like David.

    Psalms 56:1-4 (ESV Strong’s)
    1 Be gracious to me, O God, for man tramples on me;
    all day long an attacker oppresses me;
2 my enemies trample on me all day long,
    for many attack me proudly.
    3 When I am afraid,
I put my trust in you.
4 In God, whose word I praise,
in God I trust; I shall not be afraid.
What can flesh do to me?

    Psalms 56:12-13 (ESV Strong’s)
    12 I must perform my vows to you, O God;
I will render thank offerings to you.
13 For you have delivered my soul from death,
    yes, my feet from falling,
that I may walk before God
    in the light of life.

  10. 5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

It’s only when we are content with what we have and Gods provision that we can really see all he has done for us and we can fully rely on him. Covetousness and jealousy cloud our vision and we feel like we are being denied something so it hinders our trust in God and often times we try to provide that need for ourselves taking our life out of Gods hands and back into our own.

  11. 8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

Choose you this whom ye will serve.

The line is drawn in the sand. Are you with us? Because we are going somewhere. We must know the truth. So many so called Christians waver in the very thought Of God. Why? Because they have not yet sold out to him. They have not allowed the word of God go take root and hold fast. A sound mind means you know without a shadow of a doubt what you believe. Know!

    More revival.
    More truth.
    More 440

  12. REAL SECURITY VS-5
The bottom line is not how much we have in the bank. The bottom line is that God is committed to us and never leave or forsake us.
    THAT IS REAL SECURITY

  13. Hebrews 13
    The Lord is My Helper
    Obey Your Rulers

Hebrews 13:1 Let Brotherly Love continue.

    Romans 12:10 be kindly affectIoned one to another with brotherly love ;in honor preferring one another ;

Hebrews 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account that they may do it with joy, and not with grief for that is unprofitable for you.

  14. 17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

It is important for those who serve in the kingdom to obey and be accountable to those who they serve under. This creates a spiritual harmony that allows both parties to be fully used in the way God desires them to and it allows the work of God to be executed without a hitch. “Oh how beautiful and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in in unity.

  15. Angels !!!! 1. LET brotherly love continue. 2. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. I know I have entertained angels before. I thank you Jesus for allowing me this honor. You are the Lifter of my head !!!! Praise ye the Lord !!!!

  16. 7, “Remember (to keep (a person) in mind with some feeling, as of pleasure, gratitude, etc.) them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.”
17, “Obey (to be guided by; submit to the control of) them that have the rule over you, and submit ( to yield to the power, control, etc. of another or others; give in) yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.”
24, “Salute (an act, words, or gesture made to express welcome, honor, respect, etc.) them that have the rule over you, and all the saints. They of Italy salute you.”

There are 3 things we must do to those who rule over us…
    1) Remember them and be grateful for them for they have spoken the word of God to us, and we need to follow their example of faith.
    2) Obey and be guided by them and submit and yield to them for they watch for our souls.
    3) Salute and greet, honor and respect them everytime we see them.

Thank You JESUS for Pastor & Sis. Watts, for the Ministers and wives of our church, and for the Leadership of our church!

  17. 5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

My father taught us from a young age that joy is a choice. If you are happy about the way you are and the things you have with a grateful heart, you can be happy with nothing, then you can be happy with everything. It is when we are nonconforming with what we have and always wanting what every one else has that we will for ever be unhappy. Covetousness = feeling or showing a very strong desire for something that you do not have and especially for something that belongs to someone else.
The only way to fix it is, be happy with who you are, what you have, and be grateful for ALL He has blessed you with and everything else will be added to you. Be joyful of the blessings that your Brother and Sisters have, do not covet their blessings yours is on its way. Be happy for them, and join their PRAISE PARTY to show your support and remember yours is on its way. He did it for them, He will do it for you. Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

  18. MORE PRAISE

15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

By the LOVE and GRACE of JESUS we are empowered to give PRAISE to GOD continually. Continually because there is never a time when GOD is not present. Since GOD is always present then our PRAISE should always be offered to HIM.

Praise demonstrated through giving thanks to GOD for EVERYTHING. The good, the bad, the great, the tragic, the mundane, the extraordinary; EVERYTHING.

The FRUIT of our lips; our words that offer nourishment and refreshing to our maker; not only our words directed toward him at church during worship services, but including every word we speak in our home, on our job, with our family, in prayer, everywhere.

We must not forget that there is an eternal voice recorder in our lives, keeping record of every word we speak and JESUS will judge every word spoken on judgement day. Be careful little tongue what you say.

Often speaking MORE PRAISE is a sacrifice due to the circumstances, we understand that in these praises GOD is well pleased.

    DO GOOD and
    PRAISE MORE
    PLEASE GOD

  19. 7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

Honor our Pastor and Sis Watts and follow them as they follow Christ. Be submitted to them and in unity with their vision so that we can rejoice together in the harvest that the Lord has planned for the region of Ft.Worth. Pastor, as our shepherd, hears the word from the Lord for our lives and without submission to him, we might not receive the guidance around or through the trials of life as God intends. Lift them up to God and keep them covered with prayer and fasting!

  20. 7 Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith. (NLT)

We have so many wonderful leaders in our life, at least I know I can name a few. It’s wise to learn from them, follow their faithful examples, and be obedient in our submission to their authority.

  21. Hebrews 13:5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have because God has said. Never will I leave you never will I forsake you. So we say with confidence, The Lord is my helper I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me.

  22. 5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
We (I) may leave God but God don’t leave us. God loves us even we are unloveable. We have a friend when we have Jesus and I’m so thankful and grateful that he loved me that he died for me.
Without the help of the Lord we (I) couldn’t make it thru the day. These verses remind me of the song “What a Friend we have in Jesus”. People are going to talk about us and abuse us but God will always be there for us!!!!

  23. 3 Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.

My prayer today is to be filled with compassion that when someone I know or am acquainted with through others is hurting, I will intercede for them as if it were my own need. There are times when I couldn’t pray for myself andI know it was only the prayers of those that loved me carried me through that time. I want to return that spiritual favor.

  24. Now may the God of peace— who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood— may he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen. (‭Hebrews‬ ‭13‬:‭20-21‬ NLT)

This is a great example to follow then praying for others. “May he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him.”

  25. 17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Amen! I will obey my Pastor and submit to Him because I know that he cares for my soul. Everything he does is for edification! I am blessed that I have come to be part of Pastors vision because of all the dead churches I have been a part of I was loosing all hope that I would never find a leader that would lead my family and me to the right path. Praise God for Pastor and His wife 🙂 love ya

  26. 17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

The simle word “obey” doens’t always sound like an easy task, it demands action be taken. In other Epistles Paul includes the rulers in his exhortations, but here he addresses the general chruch body, in contrast to the rulers to who we are to yield submission to. Now this is just what might be expected when the apostle of the Gentiles was writing to the church, among whom James and the eleven apostles had exercised a more immediate authority. It was important he should not seem to set himself in opposition to their guides, but rather strengthen their hands; he says no authority directly or indirectly over these rulers themselves to “Remember” your deceased rulers (Heb 13:7). “Obey” your living rulers; nay, more, not only obey in cases where no sacrifice of self is required, and where you are persuaded they are right (so the Greek, for “obey”), but “submit yourselves” as a matter of dutiful yielding, when your judgment and natural will incline you in an opposite direction.

As they do their part, so do you yours. We can compare Paul’s address to the elders, Ac 20:28; 1Co 4:1-5, where also he connects ministers’ responsibility with the account to be hereafter given (compare 1Pe 5:4). Disobedience/ dishonor brings grief to our pastor and is unprofitable for us, for it weakens spiritual power. So God will be provoked to avenge on you their groaning of grief because they must give God an account of any negligence, so will we if we bring ingratitude to them. I don’t ever want to get to the place where I am a burden and source of grief to my pastor or ministers above me. Bringing honor to our leaders brings joy and harmony as we labor together for the kingdom. To do so we must opperate in unity and submission.

  27. 2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

One of the most important impressions a person can make is the first impression. You can either win or lose a person over by the first impression, which is why in church today, everyone needs to show kindness to the strangers, or new people. When we are kind to them and friendly, there is a better chance they will come back again and they will stay.

Whether we are entertaining angels or just people, it doesn’t matter because both are important and both need the same attention from us believers.

  28. Let his praise be continually in my mouth………….Amen!

15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

“Also, you could be entertaining Angels!”……………………………………….

  29. 15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

    Thank you Jesus!
Sometimes it is hard to say thanks for the things that happen to us. Yet, the beautiful thing is that God calls it a praise. A sacrifice of praise… It’s how we worship. Can we imagine for one moment losing everything just like Job did? At the slightest sense of discomfort or inconvenience we complain. When things aren’t going right and all chaos breaks loose we are so quick yo thing that’s it…there’s no hope. However, God wants to show how great and mighty He is. It may just be a test of your faith. Do we really see God bigger than the situation or circumstance. Yes sometimes it will be exactly as described, a sacrifice. Something has to die, our ego, our pride, our control. No matter the situation God is still Lord of all. We just have to allow Him to be completely Lord of all of our lives and always be thankful. Thank you Jesus!

1 Thessalonians 5:18 Thank God in everything no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks, for this is the will of God for you who are in Christ Jesus the Revealer and Mediator of that will.   AMP

  30. 17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
I pray that I will be able to give a good account for those that I have come in contact with and I hope those that give account for me will be out of joy. In Jesus’s name, amen.

  31. 17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Submission, I think this year alone we have been preached almost by every guest preacher, to submit to our man of God. Without a Shepard, the sheep are lost, without a Shepard the sheep have no direction, without a Shepard the sheep are left to defend themselves from the wolfs, without a Shepard the will go astray. That will be the reality of a church without a Shepard, or a careless Shepard. The reward will be the same, one for glory and one for perdition. It takes a special calling to be Shepard. I honor you Pastor Watts to answering your calling from God, your passion, drive, love for souls, and love for God has given us hope and a new found perspective to life and our purpose in Christ, save the lost.

  32. The power of prayer

18 Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.

19 But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.

Paul believes in the power of prayer. He believed that if the saints prayed it would loose his bonds. I believe that today. If we would just pray our city could be free!

  33. 2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

We should be reaching for others out of conviction rather than convenience .

    The Bakers

  34. “And I beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words.” Paul said much in very few words, one that will be obedient is wise, whereas one that is disobedient is truly unwise. Dear God, bless the man of God that you placed in my life; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. In God we trust! What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  35. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your strength comes from God’s grace, not from rules about food, which don’t help those who follow them. (‭Hebrews‬ ‭13‬:‭8-9‬ NLT)

It is not our responsibility to keep up with this world and its new fads. We are to keep our eyes on the Lord and keep up with His commandments. The Lord doesn’t change but the world does. You never know what type of mood it will be in, but glory be to God, Christ never changes. Don’t be mislead by fads, follow truth. Gods grace and love is more than enough

  36. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

God I come to you today lord Jesus christ, for so we say with conviction in are minds to you God, for I know the lord is my helper, for also I know that the situation is in his hands, and I trust him.I beseech you for strength and for wisdom that I would be able to endure this situation and be able to handle it in a way that would bring glory to Your name. for I will not fear what man shall do unto me. In Jesus Name Amen!!!!

2 Corinthians 7:16 I rejoice therefore that I have confidence

2 Corinthians 10:17 But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

  37. Follow the example of the pastor

Heb. 13:7 Continue to remember  your leaders, those who spoke God’s message to you;   reflect on the outcome of their  way of life, and imitate their faith.

The leaders are those who speak the word to us. We are to follow them as an example of faith and life.

  38. 5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

We shouldn’t be talking about things that have no place in a Man or a Woman of God’s mouth. Complaining about what we have and what we don’t have doesn’t change anything. God knows everything we have need of and those things are different for everyone. Instead of sounding ungrateful and ugly we should instead speak in faith for the things we don’t have Yet! We should proclaim Jesus from the rooftops boldly instead of hiding our conversations because we know that he wouldn’t approve.

  39. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. (‭Hebrews‬ ‭13‬:‭2‬ KJV)

I can remember having random people over at my house all the time when I was a child. One time a man just walked up to our door claiming to know my dad who was not home and he stayed with us for a week. Random strangers wondered in and out of our lives. My home was not an easy place to find.

I can also remember people we helped in other ways. People at the gas station, flat tires, out of gas travelers, and hungry people with signs. My parents were always leery of giving strangers money, but would buy them food, gas, fix their flats, push a car, whatever needed to be done.

Now I look into my own life and examine, will my children remember us showing hospitality to others? Will they think it’s ok to help someone in need or will they just turn and walk away?

I can see the eyes of a man who cried about how gracious God is while holding the hands of my children and praying over his hotdog and coffee. In our modern world it’s hard to have change to spare when you just carry a card–but you can always purchase and give just the same.

Will my children think this is a one time occurrence, God I pray NO! Lord help me to be a better example of how to entertain and show hospitality to strangers. Help me to be the light to my future generation. Amen!

  40. 17) Obey them that have the rule over you and submit yourselves; for they watch for your souls, as they must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

If we would just obey and submit ourselves to those who look after us, our lives would become a little easier.
