James 2

1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:

4 Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

  1. 14. Brothers and sisters, it doesn’t make any sense to say you have faith and act in a way that denies that faith. Mere talk never gets you very far, and a commitment to Jesus only in words will not save you.

    19. Do you think that just believing there’s one God is going to get you anywhere? The demons believe that, too, and it terrifies them!

    20. The fact is, faith has to show itself through works performed in faith. If you don’t recognize that, then you’re an empty soul. Voice

Just saying we have faith, or just believing there is one God isn’t enough, we have to put action with our faith and beliefs. That book between John and Romans isn’t called the Thoughts of the Apostles or the Beliefs of the Apostles for a reason; they Acted upon their faith…and changed their world!

  2. 10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

This is why it is important to obey every word of God. We can not pick and choose what we want to do. God’s word is there for a reason. We don’t want to be found guilty of all just because we choose what we want to abide by. Partial obedience is full rebellion.

  3. Verses 12-13 MSG “Talk and act like a person expecting to be judged by the Rule that sets us free. For if you refuse to act kindly, you can hardly expect to be treated kindly. Kind mercy wins over harsh judgment every time.” Same verses in NLT “So whatever you say or whatever you do, remember that you will be judged by the law that sets you free. There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you.” There is Room in the House of God for everybody!

Verse 26 CEV “Anyone who doesn’t breathe is dead, and faith that doesn’t do anything is just as dead!” Wow……we must make sure we keep our faith alive!

  4. 19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

Hallelujah! love this verse the devils also believe there is one and they tremble. That’s why we should pray without ceasing so when we claim the name of Jesus everywhere we go it will scare the devil. I want the devil to know me by my name because he will know that I have the power to cast him down. Nothing is to small for my God and the devil knows it that’s why he’s always looking in who to destroy, kill, and devour. The only reason why the enemy will enter your mind/heart is if you let him in. Just call out the name of Jesus and RESIT him and the devil shall flee. Protect me Jesus daily thank you for your precious blood 🙂

  5. 19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

Believing there is a God is not enough, for satan and all his demons believe the same thing. We need to have Faith and we need to work, for it is through our works that we perfect our Faith. Hebrews 11: 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
BELIEVE IN HIM WITH ALL YOUR HEART AND SERVE HIM DOING EVERYTHING AS IS UNTO HIM, LET ALL GLORY AND HONOR BE GIVEN TO HIM OUR SAVIOR, OUR FRIEND.

  6. A little less talk and a lot MORE action

    James 2:26 (ESV Strong’s)
26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.

    James 2:26 (NLT)
26 Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works.

    James 2:26 (Weymouth New Testament)
26 For just as a human body without a spirit is lifeless, so also faith is lifeless if it is unaccompanied by obedience.

    James 2:26 (Message)
26 The very moment you separate body and spirit, you end up with a corpse. Separate faith and works and you get the same thing: a corpse.

A doctor is not a doctor because he carries with him the title of doctor. He is a doctor because he practices medicine, surgery, etc. A mechanic is not one in name only but because he repairs broken vehicles. A lawyer is not simply a lawyer because he works at a law firm. He is a lawyer because he defends parties in a courtroom.

Therefore we cannot be a Christian in name only. Attending church services weekly doesn’t prove anything. We are Christian when we do the actions, and live like a Christian.

The world is tired of loud mouth hypocrites, people who say they are believers but live as deceivers. The world has read the same Bible we have and are looking for evidence of the word manifested into reality.

We can believe, have faith, trust, and know all we want. We can read the word, and go to church. We can dress in the finest apostolic modest apparel, but if we never DO anything with what we hear we are our own devil.

James 1:22 (Wuest – The New Testament: An Expanded Translation)
22 Moreover, keep on becoming doers of the Word and stop being hearers only, reasoning yourselves into a false premise and thus deceiving yourselves,

  7. James 2:1
my brethren have not the faith of our lord jesus christ the lord of glory with respect of persons.

we have to respect the lord and his word orwe would not have faith and lord has glory too we need MORE FAITH , MORE REVIVAL , and MORE WORSHIP too . AMEN

  8. Whole

You know I believe it grieves God when we ask to be whole yet chop up His Word and take small bites only joyfully eating what is good.

God is 1 and He is His Word. If we desire to be complete in Him we must be willing to consume the easy and hard stuff all together.

  9. 8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

The royal law, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, are we able to keep this law? I do believe this is is greatest law in scripture and so being it is most likely broken more than any. To love someone as you would love yourself, have you ever gave this much thought. Instead of giving to yourself you would give to them. Love is such a great subject, when we speak of these many people think of God as a God of love and will always love everybody regardless of how they live. This is not an accurate definition of love. Love is putting others before you and not respecting people according to their money or status.

  10. NLT 26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

Physically we are alive, but without God in our lives we are spiritually dead. Same with faith, just about everyone has faith that their situations will get better. But we cant just sit around waiting for something to happen.

Actions speak louder than words. We need MORE prayer, worship and praise in our lives. Ask, What am I doing for the Kingdom of God. We are not justified by our faith alone, but justified by our works.

James 2:24 So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone.

  11. 5 Listen, dear friends. Isn’t it clear by now that God operates quite differently? He chose the world’s down-and-out as the kingdom’s first citizens, with full rights and privileges. This kingdom is promised to anyone who loves God. (NLT)

There is room in the house of God for everybody!! So who are we to judge and chose who is allowed to attend church and receive Gods love and salvation? That is not how God works, His house is opened unto all those who have faith enough to step in. It’s our duty to share the gospel with everyone and pray for their souls.

  12. 12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

We will be judged the same way that we handle people today. Do we show them mercy or condemn them? God will judge us with mercy if we show mercy, just like God will forgive if we will forgive.

The Golden rule is to treat others the way we want to be treated. That applies to everyone but it seems it can also be said to treat others the way we want God to treat /judge us.

    Matthew 7:2
For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.

  13. bro moore said a little less talk and a lot more action, amen, do unto others as you would have them do unto you and pray without ceasing

  14. MORE FAITH = MORE WORK

17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

A misconception of FAITH is that it means GOD will do it for us. The TRUTH of FAITH is that GOD desires to do it through us.

The MORE Faith I have in GOD the MORE I will attempt for GOD.

The MORE I attempt for GOD the MORE responsibility I have to GOD.

To have MORE FAITH means to be MORE involved in GOD and HIS Kingdom and less involved in ours.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

If we must have FAITH to please GOD then we must WORK also to please GOD.

    iRepent
    iPray
    iBelieve
    iPraise
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  15. If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin
It is our responsibility to be kind loving and respectful to all that we meet and encounter in and out of the church. We should show Jesus through our lifestyle every day so that people know we are children of God

  16. 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

We are known by our works. This is a value that has been taught to me my whole life. Do it as you would unto the Lord. Do if with excellence. Do it well. If it’s worth doing. It worth doing well. We must work hard. But we must work smarter too. We are not just stewards of what we do, but how we do them. I want to please God with my works.

    More work
    More revival
    More 440
    More westpoint.

  17. James 2:17Even so faith, being without works, is dead, being alone.
if God has promised you something, if you have faith that God is going to bless you with something and then you work towards that to make it come to pass God will work through you to bring you your blessing. but if you just sit there and stare at the wall and expect God to do all of this stuff for youand you not lift a finger… You’re going to be a little surprised at the results, sad to say.

  18. GOOD INTENTIONS
James compares faith without works to expressions of sympathy with out giving any help. FAITH that exists without works has no value at all. James is not comparing faith and works but two different kinds of faith.

  19. 1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

This is what I love about my church – POFW. We treat everyone with the same respect no matter how they arrived at church, no matter their lifestyle and no matter their financial status in live. God has called us to love everyone and in my opinion we do a great job of that at POFW.

I John 4:20 – If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

  20. 1 My dear friends, don’t let public opinion influence how you live out our glorious, Christ-originated faith.

2 If a man enters your church wearing an expensive suit, and a street person wearing rags comes in right after him,

3 and you say to the man in the suit, “Sit here, sir; this is the best seat in the house!” and either ignore the street person or say, “Better sit here in the back row,”

4 haven’t you segregated God’s children and proved that you are judges who can’t be trusted? MSG
Why do people judge other people? Why do we teach our children to not like/hang around with people that are not as nice as us? This is so wrong…..I taught my girls there is no person different than you. So someone doesn’t have as nice as clothes as you but that don’t mean you can’t talk to them. God would sit beside someone that isn’t smelling good and hug their neck, so why do we as christians turn and go the other way when someone doesn’t smell good instead of shaking their hands or hug their necks. They are just as human as we are. We need to show the same love to one as we do to others

  21. The answer is NO

James 2:14 ¶ What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?

Can that faith save him? The grammar in Greek expects the answer to be no. An English equivalent would state, “That kind of faith (I.e. A faith with no works) cannot save someone, can it? James continues faith without works is dead. If I have faith that my car will get me to work and I never get in my car and do the necessary work to get to work, then my car won’t get me to work. My faith must be acting upon. In this example, I would have to drive my car to work. Likewise, we have to put our faith in God to action. We do it by living what we profess we believe.

  22. iLove to eat MORE Word

James 2:21-22 NLT Don’t you remember that our ancestor Abraham was shown to be right with God by his actions when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? (22) You see, his faith and his actions worked together. His actions made his faith complete.

Abraham came onto the scene several hundred years before the law of Moses was put into effect. Abraham walked in faith and his actions declared he was righteous. The law condemns and judges but faith sets folks free. When we walk by faith and do works of righteousness we overcome the judgement of the law. We show by our works of love and the law of sin and death has no power over us. Amen

  23. (AMP) James 2:10-11
For whosoever keeps the Law (as a) whole but stumbles and offends in one (single instance) has become guilty of (breaking) all of it.
For He Who said, You shall not commit adultery, also said, You shall not kill. If you do not commit adultery but do kill, you have become guilty of transgressing the (whole) law.

You can’t pick and choose what part of the Scriptures you want to live by. You have to live and be obedient to ALL of God’s Word.

1 John 2:4-5 says, “He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.”

Ecclesiastes 12:13 says, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”

    Keep His Commandments!

  24. Faith without works by itself is dead. It cannot work because it’s incomplete. Just like repenting, but never getting baptized or getting the Holy Ghost. In this same way faith is missing if it’s without deeds. Honestly, it’s being one foot in and one foot out. You will be carried in one direction or the other.

When we see someone in need and say “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?” (vs16) We would have done no better than to quietly walking past them. I am reminded Jesus’ parable of the good Samaritan mentioned in Luke 10 who looked after the needs of the man wounded by robbers, after 2 religious men passed by him and offered him no help. Jesus asked the expert in the law who he thought was the wounded man ‘neighbor’ and they replied “The man who had mercy on him” and Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” We have a command to go and do likewise! When Peter was giving the Good News to the Gentiles in Acts 10 he said 34 “I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism. 35In every nation he accepts those who fear him and do what is right.” The key words are “favoritism” and “do” (deeds). Go and do good deeds, because faith without deeds is dead. More Deeds, More Faith, More Mercy!

  25. 19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

We have to do more than just believe, we need to affirm our faith and the word with out actions and our lifeatyles. MORE than faith we need works

  26. Endurance – Faith of Steel

Don’t you remember that our ancestor Abraham was shown to be right with God by his actions when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see, his faith and his actions worked together. His actions made his faith complete. And so it happened just as the Scriptures say: “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.” He was even called the friend of God. So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone. (‭James‬ ‭2‬:‭21-24‬ NLT)

Our Faith should match our actions. Our passion should match our expectation. Each and everyone of us have so much potential to get MORE accomplished. We haven’t seen nothing yet. If each individual would put 110% into the kingdom of God, where our actions matched our faith. God could take the region Fort Worth by using us. God will actually be able to complete FOUR40 through us and start revival that will spread worldwide. We are His body He needs hands and feet and a heart of compassion to use. POFW has what it takes.

  27. James2:20 You foolish person do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together and his faith was made complete by what he did.

  28. Got to have faith, it’s the only way to please God, and faith without works is dead, just like the body without the spirit. Wow….we must exercise our faith, and trust that he is more than able and powerful enough to do anything. I Pray that he would increase my faith. But, I must put it to work, and step out and just believe, and receive it in Jesus name, Amen. Also, let’s not be judge mental over appearance or any other form of discrimination. We must stand firm, represent Jesus Christ. We are to love our neighbors, and help those in need.

23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

    “LOVE”…………………………………………………………….

  29. 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

I read a testimony about a man in the military who believed in God but his captain an peers did not. His captain told him if your God is so great go drive the truck to the other side of the building. But he said I’m sorry but I don’t know how to drive, his captain said it was an order. So the man walked over to the truck, got in then prayed to God and thanked him for what was he was going to do. Then the man drove the truck to the place the captain said and got out to see his peers and captain in tears saying let your God be out God! For there was no engine in the truck.
The man had so much faith!

  30. 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

We can all say we have faith, but faith will always make you take action, it will challenge you to do the unexplainable. We know that when the odds and this world says it can’t be done our God says no problem cause He is mighty.

  31. “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” One cannot pick and choose, for it is either all or nothing. As such one should exam self, against all, of the word of God (Jesus), for all will face the Judge (Jesus) on the day appointed. Dear God, help me to examine self so that I may see self, as you do; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. In God we trust! What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  32. 19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

This is one of my favorites, when some loose lipped greasy grace speaking someone tells me that they believe in God, so they know that they are going to make it to heaven…

We must have MORE FAITH, and MORE WORKS to go with our faith, so that we are the example to others, displaying our faith by our works, forgetting not that we are epistles read of ALL men.

    The Bakers

  33. Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works. (‭James‬ ‭2‬:‭26‬ NLT)

We are the body of Christ, with that comes commandments. God wants to see us working for His kingdom, not lolly gagging around ignoring what needs to be done. There are too many souls at risk of being lost in this world. Without life from God we are dead physically, without actively working for God in a spiritual sense we are killing off the spirit (Faith is dying). LOOK ALIVE PEOPLE! The time to work is now!

  34. 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

If it is within our power to help someone, we should help them! Why pray that their need is met when we are that answer? Help me recognize the things I can do to help someone, Lord, rather than say a prayer in passing. Help me Lord to step up and minister where I am able.

  35. God’s house is open to everyone. Wether you’re short, tall, dirty or clean; he intended for us to all cone together under one roof to worship him. We have no right to judge who can do so.

  36. What doth it profit !!!! 14. What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? Matt. 7 : 26 15. If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16. And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? I don’t want to lose my soul !!!! Help me Lord to increase my faith !!!! I LOVE YOU JESUS !!!!

  37. 1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

You may just not always know… Just because a person looks a certain way doesnt mean that they are not especial to God. Or that he intends and or will use them in a mighty way. We must always serve no matter who it is..

  38. Talk and act like a person expecting to be judged by the Rule that sets us free. For if you refuse to act kindly, you can hardly expect to be treated kindly. Kind mercy wins over harsh judgment every time. (‭James‬ ‭2‬:‭12-13‬ MSG)

The way we act matters. People should be treated with kindness and respect every time. Often times I see people teaching children the correct way. Is it then lost when we have difficulties? Jesus help us all to think about the way you have treated us, even on our bad days. Help us to be more like you.

  39. 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Faith is a verb and not a noun! Faith is not just something to say you do but it’s something you put into action. God gives us all his spirit inside of us who accept him but we shouldn’t just keep it to ourselves, we need to let God work through us and inside to help and serve other people who need it. When you believe in God, your faith will show and you will do things that people may think are crazy but you are just showing you have faith in God.
