James 3

1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

3 Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.

5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

  1. 11 Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed. 12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: 14 tAnd if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. (‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15‬:‭11-14‬ KJV). I pick Coriyhiams 15:12-15 because it show is that death is unavoidable we will all die and we all sit with Jesus and be judgesd by Him, James 3:14 for when envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work,
We all know that the wages of sin is desth

  2. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things.

The tongue is by far the hardest member of the body to tame. People will say things that later they wished they could take back, but once words are released from your mouth they can never be returned. The Holy Ghost is the only thing that can rule the tongue, when we receive the Holy Ghost the evidence we got it is God takes control of your tongue and you speak another language.
We need to allow the Spirit of God to lead us and give him control of our lives and when we can let him control our tongue, after receiving the Holy Ghost.
O little tongue be careful what you say!

  3. More Fire

    James 3:5 (ESV Strong’s)
5 So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things.
How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!

The thought comes to me this morning. We have two choices, two flames. Both we can set the world ablaze with. Only one will produce kingdom success while the other only destroys all in its wake.

Our tongue is capable of great things. By words alone we can bring life of deal out death.

The word tells us that when we are born again we are baptized with the Holy Ghost and Fire. In another place it says our God is a consuming fire. We must choose to use our tongues to set the world on fire by the Holy Ghost. We can speak the heavenly language and watch the enemy and his kingdom come down. We can speak the word of God with power, anointing and authority.

The other fire murders. It is the tongue of gossip, evil speaking, slander, and hatred. It produces death to the heater.

Choose the right fire and light up the world.

  4. iLove to eat MORE Word

    James 3:8-10 NLT
    (8) but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison.
    (9) Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God.
    (10) And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!

The power of the tongue can cause great fire of revival or great destruction. The choice is up to us.

  5. MORE FIRE

The tongue is so powerful it can ignite a FIRE that destroys or purifies. To have MORE FIRE we must utilize our tongue wisely. Speaking in the SPIRIT of GOD we are filled with HIS FIRE the Holy Ghost FIRE.

Otherwise our words will create a fire of iniquity, hell fire in someones life by what we say with our tongue. Negative, unkind, deceitful words from hearts that are not pure cause great damage. These words are spoken from hearts filled with pride. Humbly speaking our words form a pure heart guided by the WORD of GOD and inspired by the Spirit of GOD are the will and intent of GOD.

Perfection is only attained through our WISE words.

2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

    iRepent

  6. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

Godly wisdom is something to be desired of the Lord on a daily basis.

    I can’t walk without Him
    I can’t talk without Him
    I can’t sing without Him
    There’s no me without Him

    I can’t live without Him
    I can’t breathe without Him
    I’m nothing without Him

Psalm 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

  7. James 3:10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, this ought not be so.
Be careful where your thoughts stray and what is uttered out of your mouth. We should speak life, not death. Every word we utter will bear some type of fruit. What kind of fruit do you bear?

  8. 8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

You might think you have your tongue under control, but a test of that is to accidentally hurt yourself- really bad, then check out what comes out of your mouth. It is adversity that shows us what is in still in our hearts. If cursing comes out, it is in your heart. But thanks to God, he can help us overcome! Sometimes those trials in life might be trying to show us what to overcome!

  9. 16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

What can I say? I remember being taught in Sunday school that when you read the bible if a scripture jumps out at you then its a word from God to you that very moment. When I read this scripture I immediately looked inward remembering what Bro. Holiman preached on yesterday… “Lord is it me?”

  10. 9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

Do you praise God with that mouth?!

Back in the day you would hear someone say “do you kiss your momma with that mouth?!” After hearing something awful come from someone’s mouth, usually a curse word. Now that is not so, not only am I worried that someone would be cursing with the same mouth that they use to send praises up to God but any form of negativity is uncalled for. Whether it be cursing, pessimism, gossiping, hurtful words out of anger. We should always watch what we say because God hears it all. We can be tearing down a bother or sister with our words and then wonder why we can’t pray through that night! Well you already filed your mouth with all kinds of junk tearing down someone that God loves (someone that you should love!) and you expect your praise to be heartfelt?? Not so my brothers and sisters. We should not let any form of negativity proceed from our mouths when we use them so often to praise God

  11. 8, “But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.”
9, “Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.”
10, “Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.”

Prov. 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
Prov. 13:3 says, “He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.”
Prov. 21:23 says, “Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from trouble.”

Truely death and life are in the power of the tongue. So as the old saying goes, “If you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything at all.” Some people need to stop and think before they speak. If people could learn these two lessons, it would sure keep them out of alot of trouble.

“Oh be careful little mouth what you say.”
“Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.” Ps. 141:3

  12. In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself. (‭James‬ ‭3‬:‭5-6‬ NLT)

With the words that come out of our mouth can be deadly and cause bruises and cuts to others or help them be lifted up and encouraged by feeling loved. Our words are more than we realize. Just like how we give praise and worship unto God when we sing if we aren’t right with God or in His spirit it’s just words with no meaning behind them. Our words don’t just effect others but it can bring us down as well. That’s why we pray for ourselves and we encourage ourselves. Words we say is major. So we need I watch what we say to people, around people and what we even think or say to ourselves.

I pray that my words are kind and loving to everyone that I encounter. I don’t want to cut someone down with my words. I would rather encourage and help guide people with my words.

  13. vs8-vs-9
But no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil full of deadly poison.vs-9 Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father and somrtimes it curses those have been made in the image of God.
I fill like i very seldom say crule things are insult church belivers or other non belivers with my tongue. Sad to say lately there has been 2 times i have let my tongue get the best of me with 2 other brothers in the church. of coarse i made it right with each one. Praise God for reading this chapter today i needed it.

  14. James 3:7 All kinds of animals birds, reptiles, and sea creatures are being tamed and have been teamed by mankind but no human being can tame the tongue.it is a restless evil full of deadly poison.

  15. Tongue !!!! 8. But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Ps. 140 : 3 9. Therewith bless we God, even the father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. 10. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. 11. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? 12. Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. I EXALT YOU !!!! I SALUTE YOU MY JESUS !!!! PRAISE YE THE LORD !!!! HALLELUJAH !!!!

  16. The end of this chapter is captioned in the NLT with “True Wisdom Comes from God”. Verses 17-18 MSG “But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.[d]”

Same verses AMP “But the wisdom from above is first of all pure (undefiled); then it is peace-loving, courteous (considerate, gentle). [It is willing to] yield to reason, full of compassion and good fruits; it is wholehearted and straightforward, impartial and unfeigned (free from doubts, wavering, and insincerity). And the harvest of righteousness (of conformity to God’s will in thought and deed) is [the fruit of the seed] sown in peace by those who WORK for and make peace [in themselves and in others, that peace which means concord, agreement, and harmony between individuals, with undisturbedness, in a peaceful mind free from fears and agitating passions and moral conflicts].”

  17. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

  18. 16. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

So when we allow envying and strife to work, we also allow confusion, jealousy, lies, rebellion, and everything else that God considers evil work!

  19. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

One should be mindful of what one says, for the Judge (Jesus), hears all. Dear God, help me to be mindful of what I say; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. In God we trust! What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  20. When Pastor preached these verses at western day 2 years ago it was a great revelation . If we can keep our tounge under subjection the rest of it will follow. Study to be quiet! Learn to keep your mouth shut in other words. When we put this to practice there will be a lot less offended people leaving the church and a lot more added to it. It’s probably the best system we could write. Step 1 think before you speak. Step 2 if it doesn’t edify then don’t say it. Lesson over.

  21. 15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

Seen many of preachers preach what seems to be something they pulled out of a Joel Olsteen book. Full of man made wisdom, do better for yourself, live right for yourself kind of attitude. Paraphrasing the Word, using there eloquent words to try to inspire and lift up and tickle many ears. There words are empty and fill the hearts with empty hope.

I will never speak manly wisdom, done that to many years of my life, now I will say like Moses did Ex 33
“If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.”
If your Presence does not speak though me, do not allow me to speak.

  22. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
Wow! What power the tounge has! It can bring life and encouragement and also bring death. It can lift somebody up or tear them down. We should all be watchful of our tongues and not allow the enemy to use them to destroy. On the contrary we should use them to build up and encourage and to edify of brothers and sisters.

  23. Two Wisdoms

Most people have one of two mindsets. One group places its trust in the wisdom of human achievement. The others place their trust in God’s wisdom. James describes the first as “earthly, unspiritual, of the devil” (vs15). It harbors “envy and selfish ambitions” (vs14). It also leads to disorder and depraved behavior (vs 16). James says the second wisdom “comes from heaven” (vs 17). From James’s descriptions, it would seem that each type of wisdom can be easily identified. One is disorderly, the other peaceful. One is selfish, the other impartial. However, the wisdom of the world can at times cloak itself in good actions, making it more difficult to distinguish. However, the wisdom of the world can at times cloak itself in good actions, making it more difficult to identify. Only focusing on the things of God and will help us discern what is true wisdom.

  24. but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! (‭James‬ ‭3‬:‭8-10‬ NLT)

Just shut up and listen! Sometimes you don’t need to speak, you’re better off keeping quiet and letting God handle whatever issue there is. We all have a problem with wanting to put our two cents in or saying the last word but honestly what do you gain by flapping your tongue? If it’s not glorifying God then its glorifying the devil. Since we should already be in a state of prayer all day long then it should come easy to us to pray before we speak.. Be quick to forgive and slow to respond. God gave us two ears and one mouth for a reason

  25. James 3:5 So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. ¶ How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!

The tongue has the ability to do far more damage then a sword. Our words can emotionally & spiritually would others. Let us speak words that build up instead. We can build up others in exhortation. Praise and curses shouldn’t flow out of the same mouth.

  26. Don’t be in any rush to become a teacher, my friends. Teaching is highly responsible work. Teachers are held to the strictest standards. And none of us is perfectly qualified. We get it wrong nearly every time we open our mouths. If you could find someone whose speech was perfectly true, you’d have a perfect person, in perfect control of life. (‭James‬ ‭3‬:‭1-2‬ MSG)

Teaching–the profession that creates all others

Mothers and fathers are often our first teachers. They being to instill things in their children without even knowing what is happening. Before long their little one wants to act just like mom and dad because of the example that they have seen.

Experience is also an early teacher. With it comes lesson learned by the doer as well as the watcher. Expirence is not as generous as mom and dad because it’s on our own and you often can’t feel the love behind the teacher. It’s just a reaction to what you do.

Then thee are the “teachers.” People who someone sees fit to instruct. Someone who already has learned the lessons they are reaching, or has enough “God-sight” to cast a vision of something they are teaching. While this job might seem glamourous, it does have great responsibilities. Keeping up with students, making sure your students are engaged and successful, and relating to each person on their level are just a few of the problems. You have to constantly review how your teaching, what is a better thing to say, and try to use those “best practices” to keep everyone improving. If at any point you begin to become unsure about what your doing then your students begin to learn less and less. It truly is a job for someone with a passion and not for someone seeking fame.

Thank you Pastor and Sister Watts for being such great teachers. Not only in word, but also in deed.

  27. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

The tongue is the most dangerous weapon that any human possesses, it can be wild and out of control, hard to tame like a wild horse. There is only one who can tame the tongue and that’s God himself.

Which is why we receive we must die to ourselves in the spirit and let God take control in our lives, because by our own will we can control our own tongue, but God can control our tongue for us, giving us the words to speak and pushing away the words that we must not speak.

And then he can turn it around and use our tongue to help spread a spark, a spark of his spirit to spread 40 days of more fire!

  28. 1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

Our words have so much power and influence on people. There are so many people that have been wounded by things people have said. Some may think that it’s just silly thing but the word tells us that life and death lie in tougue. Those that are in any kind of leadership position should know that they have a great power to speak and instruct of the truth and life.

  29. 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

It’s amazing the power of the tongue has! Many use it to curse and to bless but just like chapters says a fig tree cannot produce two different types of fruits. Our body which is the temple of God cannot serve 2 masters for that is a sin. The tongue being such a small part of the body it controls the body. Be wise and watch what you say….for we will be judged for everythig we said and didn’t say! Have mercy on me Jesus!!! Hallelujah!!!!
