James 4

1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

  1. Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. (‭James‬ ‭4‬:‭2-4‬ KJV)
Fulfilling the desires of the flesh will always leave you wanting more. It always leave you empty. Once you have experienced the power of the Holy Ghost nothing can ever match or be compared to it!! It was never intended for us to be lost, or dead(spiritually), but our lustful desires have blinded many that they have gone astray. And it sad to see that they have believed a lie. True life can only be found in Christ. You don’t need to look far, just call on the name of Jesus, repent, and he will be right there, right where you are.

  2. 6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

There is so much here to speak of and cover much territory, from lust to obedience. I want to tell the world God is an on time God and he hates pride. God will resist the proud and hates even a proud look.
    Prov 6:16-17
16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

God wants us to humble ourselves and come to him with fear and trembling. We need to admit that we are not a god or even close to being anything close to a god. We need a higher power in our lives to help us overcome the sins of the world. If we humble ourselves we can find the grace of God helping us in our life everyday.
God help me to become humble and never to be filled with pride and be to proud to repent.

  3. 13. Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.”

    14. How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog-it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. NLT

I was given a personal class on this lesson! I mean, who ever dreamed I Would live in Fort Worth, Texas? Only God knows what tomorrow holds, and I think that sometimes He sees us declaring of a surety what we are or are not going to do as a challenge and a chance to teach us a lesson…one we usually have to learn the hard way.

  4. NIV – 4 You adulterous people,[a] don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. 5 Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us[b]? 6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:

“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”[c]
7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

We are committing spiritual adultery when we chase after things that take the place of God in our lives. It could be house, lands, monies, position, prestige, relationships etc. We allow many things to take the place of our relationship with God, if we are not careful and get our priorities in line, we will be crying out in hell remember those things and hating the very thought of them, because they cost us our eternal soul.

It’s time to get our priorities right and keep them right Let’s put Jesus back where He belongs – As Lord of our Heart.

  5. THE SIN OF OMISSION

17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

The greatest Spiritual self inflicted tragedy is to possess the knowledge and ability to accomplish something for JESUS and choose for any selfish reason to not fulfill or accomplish that task or ministry. Opportunity is the biggest window in the world, multitudes look out the Window of Opportunity, but very few take advantage of the VISION.

GOD reveals himself to faithful seekers. Along with revelation comes accountability, GOD expects us to act on the revelations he shares with us. To choose to no longer be faithful, involved or committed is Spiritual tragedy and self inflicted sin.

Choose today to be a MORE faithful servant of the LORD.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  6. 14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
Why do we put off tomorrow what we can do today? We are all guilty of doing that. We are not promised tomorrow so today is the day that we will spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  7. we need to practice what we preach and quit practicing what is comfortable when the going gets tough and the tough will go away

  8. vs-7
    RESIST THE devil
However powerful Satan is if we set ourselves against the devil he is unable to prevail and he will flee from us.
    vs-13
What James objects to is an attitude toward the future that takes no account of God. We must live each day with the awareness of our mprtality and thus of our total dependence on God for all things.

  9. 11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

    Let God be God

When we defend ourselves, seek vengeance or take things into our own hands we dethrone the Lord in our lives. When we refuse to turn the other cheek, and go after those who despite fully use us we tell God that we know better than him.

We must realize that God’s ultimate goal is to save humanity. As someone already saved, if we respond contrary to the word, we could hinder another person from going to heaven.

It is better to take the offense, take the low road, and let God work it out rather than make a bigger mess. A bully could have been sent to us from God because our response to their meanness could be the catalyst to draw them to the kingdom of God.

  10. FOR YOUR LIFE IS NOT YOURS, BUT THE LORDS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Life is much easier once you realize that your life does not belong to you but to the Lord. He pay a very high price for your life. He gave His, every single drop of His Holy blood, suffer humiliation, and was beaten beyond recognition for you to have the freedom and life you have right now, with that already established then lets go to the next. It is because He purchase your life that we have no right to demand ANYTHING our of this life but be happy and content for the blessings He is willing and able to grant us. That is why when we boast of our abilities, or talents, we are sinning for it is Him that granted us those abilities, it is Him who has given us the talents, therefore it is for HIM that we should be using our talents to serve HIM and for the GLORY OF HIS KINGDOM. I am not saying that we should not plan ahead, by no means, we should not be ignorant, we should plan but plan withing His will for our lives! Plan hoping that God will be glorified by what we do. Plan showing the world that you stand by Him on His Word. We should not make any decisions without consulting Him in prayer and confirming it with our Pastor as our spiritual leader. 1 Corinthians 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order.
Everything God says is true for the only thing that it is impossible for God is to lie. Therefore, if you know what is good and you don’t do it you are sinning. DO WHAT HE SAYS, LIVE BY HIM AND FOR HIM ALONE AND EVERYTHING ELSE SHALL BE ADDED UNTO YOU.

  11. What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you? You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God. (‭James‬ ‭4‬:‭1-4‬ NLT)

Don’t fight yourselves or anyone else to get what you want. Do right and obey God and He will provide what you need. We do not need to crush our brothers and sister into getting what we want we should love and encourage them to do better.

Don’t follow this world because once we do that just like the scripture says we become enemies with God. Me myself I would not ever want to be on Gods bad side.

Let us humble ourselves and encourage one another to strive I do better not just in our lives but with others around us and in our walk with God. God loves each and everyone of us and does not want to see us fall away towards anything or into the wrong things.

  12. iLove to eat MORE Word

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

So often in life we assume that we are waiting on God so that we can enter into a deeper relationship with Him, however, this simply is not true. We are not waiting on God, He is waiting on us. We submit to God and the devil will flee. We draw near to Him and He will draw near to us. WOW

  13. More Grace

In this life we will find challenges without and within but we have grace to answer every struggle. As we submit our lives to God more and more, we step into His grace to both be further removed from the ways of sin as well as be matured in Christ. More grace should translate to more of Jesus in our lives:

    Romans 6:1-4
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

  14. 17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

The unfortunate thing here is that many times it is the apostolic’s that fall into this cats gory, because so many others have such a distorted view of the truth, they are calling right wrong, and evil good…

  15. 6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

God gives grace to those that are humble. The proud God resist and allow to fall and learn the hard way. When we submit ourselves to God we are mighty conquer’s and can take on anything life throws our way. Resist the devil and he will flee.

  16. “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” One must be mindful of one’s actions as the Judge (Jesus) knows the heart. One will do good if one obeys Gods (Jesus) word, and the man of God. Dear God, help me that I may know and do good; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. In God we trust! What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  17. Submission

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Some problems can be avoided simply by submitting to God, which includes submission to the pastor. You cannot attend POFW and be submitted to God if you aren’t submitted to Pastor Watts. Once submitted, we must resist temptation. Cast down the thoughts and embrace the cross. Let’s continue to hold or foot on the Devils throat.

  18. Submit to God, and resist the devil and he shall flee….”It is written in Jesus name, Amen.

7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

    Get closer to God……………

  19. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. (‭James‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬ NLT)

God desires a relationship with you. If you search for more of Him, that’s exactly what you will find. But if you resist Him the deeper your relationship with the world gets. What’s more important to you? It’s either God or the world, you can’t have both.

  20. You’re cheating on God. If all you want is your own way, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of God and his way. And do you suppose God doesn’t care? The proverb has it that “he’s a fiercely jealous lover.” And what he gives in love is far better than anything else you’ll find. It’s common knowledge that “God goes against the willful proud; God gives grace to the willing humble.” (‭James‬ ‭4‬:‭4-6‬ MSG)

Humility. It goes along way. This version puts these verses into good perspective.

  21. James 4: 13 Now listen you who say today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city spend a year there carry on business and make money. Why you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.instead you ought to say. If it is the Lords will we will live and do this or that. As it isyoy boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. If any one then knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it it is sin for them.

  22. It’s human nature to get frustrated or overwhelmed with cares of this life. Their are dreams that everyone has, or thought their lives may turn out. We have a choice of what we’ll do with this life we are given. We can spend it fighting with eachother to get our way for selfish gain, or let God have His way. Otherwise we’ll be hurting ourselves and leaving casualties behind us. He will lead us and guide us if we humbly take our hands off the steering wheel. An unplugged lamp will never turn on. We are turned off when we are not in the will of God, unplugged and disconnected. Opperating in his power means getting connected.

  23. 15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

If the Lord will… Most people don’t take in account that as psalms 24 says
The earth is the LORD’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. Psalm 24:1
In other words, this life is not our own. Everything we have, everything that is there is for God. If the Lord will, I will do this or that. Every day is an opportunity that the Lord has given us to do His will, and be blessed by doing so.

  24. Submit !!!! 4. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. 5. Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? 6. But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Job. 22 : 29 Prov. 3 : 34 7. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Eph.4 : 27 I LOVE YOU JESUS !!!! I AM VICTORIOUS !!!!

  25. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

Help us remember Lord that when we judge, we are judged of you! We all have our flesh to contend with and are to help one another rather than condemn them. Teach, instruct, encourage-help someone even if they oppose themselves.

  26. 13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

We would be wise to not take things for granted… like tomorrow, none of us really know if it will come when we think it will. Instead we should do all things prayerfully and in Jesus name
