1 Peter 1

1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:

7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

10 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:

11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:

15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

  1. What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future. The Day is coming when you’ll have it all—life healed and whole. (‭1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭3-5‬ MSG)

    Thank you Jesus, for my hope is only found in you.

  2. 18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

    19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

    We were not redeemed with gold, silver, or any other precious stone. The blood of Jesus Christ has redeemed us with his own blood. Thank God for the blood, because we needed something to come and bring us out. Deliverance from the corruptible things of this world and our own worldly flesh. The precious blood of Jesus!

  3. 24. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

    25. But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

    The Word being preached to us is not temporary opinions from an ordinary man, but permanent truth from a holy, unchanging God!

    Mark 13:31 KJV
    Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

  4. Verses 13-17 MSG “So roll up your sleeves, put your mind in gear, be totally ready to receive the gift that’s coming when Jesus arrives. Don’t lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didn’t know any better then; you do now. As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by God’s life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness. God said, “I am holy; you be holy.” You call out to God for help and he helps—he’s a good Father that way. But don’t forget, he’s also a responsible Father, and won’t let you get by with sloppy living.” Sometimes we get so upset with children when they don’t listen and think “Why can’t they just listen….how is easy is that???”; but, I think sometimes as adults we do the same thing. Complacency, laziness can do you in; so, we cannot allow ourselves to slip into old grooves. It is time to put everything (mind, body and soul) in gear and move forward.

  5. iLove to eat More Word

    More Grace and More Peace
    1 Peter 1:2 NLT
    (2) “God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and His Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed Him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. May God give you more and more grace and peace.(3) All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by His great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation”

    Because of the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus, we have an expectation of making it to heaven. Before we were saved, most of us were fearful of death and the grave because we knew if we died that we would bust hell wide open.

    I was pagan to the max. There were times where I could have been killed, but His grace and mercy provided a way out. Thank-You Lord for a way out by your grace and mercy. We can now have Great Expectation even through the difficult trials that come our way.

  6. The Mind

    1 Peter 1:13 (AMP)
    13 So brace up your minds; be sober (circumspect, morally alert); set your hope wholly and unchangeably on the grace (divine favor) that is coming to you when Jesus Christ (the Messiah) is revealed.

    1 Peter 1:13 (Wuest – The New Testament: An Expanded Translation)
    13 Wherefore, having put out of the way once for all everything that would impede the free action of your mind, be calm and collected in spirit, and set your hope perfectly, wholly, and unchangeably, without doubt and despondency, upon the grace that is being brought to you upon the occasion of the revelation of Jesus Christ;

    1 Peter 1:13 (Complete Jewish Bible)
    13 Therefore, get your minds ready for work, keep yourselves under control, and fix your hopes fully on the gift you will receive when Yeshua the Messiah is revealed.

    We cannot allow our minds to be free to do as it wishes. It can wander here and there. This word speaks of a deliberate action.

    Gird – Occurs only in 1 Pet. 1:13, where it is applied to the mind being held in constant preparation. It is taken from the custom of the eastern nations who, when they had occasion to exert themselves (as in journeying, running, etc.), used to bind up their long-_flowing garments by a girdle or belt about their hips (CWSB)

    Everyday we must choose to bring our minds under control of Christ and submission to his will, purpose, and way.

  7. If it were not for trials we would not know how far we can stretch or how much more we can accomplish through Christ. If we were never tried and/or encouraged to expand our abilities what a sad life we would live. We would never know the freedom of riding a bicycle, driving a car or the thrill of a job well done. As mentioned in verse 7 we need to be proved. It is not for God’s benefit, it is for our own benefit and through our testimony to each other. Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

    Keep the faith. Run the race. The reward is worth the effort.

  8. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

    How great is it to have a lively hope in our future! We are not clinging to a false or dead hope. Our hope endured death, resurrected, and lives on.

  9. 1 Peter 1:6
    Wherein ye greatly rejoice though now for a season if need be ye are in heaveiness through manifold temptations.

    you have your seasons from god and thereis temptation in this world that needs to brake out of fort Worth texas and let god move inthis city by doing that we need MORE FAITH MORE REVIVAL and MORE Prayer. AMEN

  10. 14 So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. 15 But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.

    I have heard when you have a second child the first child can retract to a younger behavior. The first child becomes jealous and eager for the same attention the second child is receiving, so to achieve this the child will begin to act out.

    As “children” in Christ, this same mindset is present. It’s easy to slip into that mindset if you dwell on those thoughts…”Why doesn’t He pray for me like that” “He didn’t call my name over the pulpit”; the list could go on. Yet as older “children” we must be mature enough to recognize we aren’t the babies. We have responsibilities that need to be handled. We must help with the babies so they mature and can help the future babies. Don’t be fooled that you will be neglected, for greater is our reward. As we mature we grow a deeper relationship and friendship.

    Growing up I never believed my parents would be “friends” but now that I’m older I am privileged to be able to call her not only them my parents but also my firends. Just in Christ He will always be our Father but as we grow older, He will become our Friend.

  11. 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

    16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

    The first step to holiness is to gird your mouth. Just like in the previous chapter Paul talked about bridling your tounge. It is evedently a major issue to God what you speak. We are like him and he created worlds and planets and stars and us with his word. What do we create with our words? Being holy in conversation will lead to holy actions.

  12. 14 Don’t lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didn’t know any better then; you do now.

    15 As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by God’s life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness.

    16 God said, “I am holy; you be holy.”

    17 You call out to God for help and he helps – he’s a good Father that way. But don’t forget, he’s also a responsible Father, and won’t let you get by with sloppy living.

    18 It cost God plenty to get you out of that dead-end, empty-headed life you grew up in.

    19 He paid with Christ’s sacred blood, you know. He died like an unblemished, sacrificial lamb. MSG

    I am so thankful for a God that gave his life for me. Where would we(i) be at had it not be for the saving grace of God?

  13. 25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

    Amen!!!! The Word of The Lord endureth FOREVER!!!!! His Word is the light, the truth, bread of life, and Jesus will always fulfill His Word. God is the same yesterday, today, and tomarrow! God has such great love for us it’s unexplainable! When we have Jesus in our lives we have everything!!! When you put God first before everything he will line everything up! So grateful and thankful for the great things God has done in my life!!! Thank you Jesus!!!

  14. 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

  15. MORE HOLINESS

    15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
    16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

    Our speech is the most vulnerable option for impurity, based on what we speak and how we speak it. The word HOLY means set apart or separated. When our lives and especially our speech is set apart for GOD’s use we are best equipped to be ambassadors and witnesses for JESUS.

    We are wise to examine ourselves and determine whether we are HOLY and GODLY examples for a morally decaying world to see.

  16. AMP of 1 Peter 1:5-9
    Who are being guarded (garrisoned) by God’s power through (your) faith (till you fully inherit that final) salvation that is ready to be revealed (for you) in the last time.
    (You should) be exceedingly glad on this account, though now for a little while you may be distressed by trials and suffer temptations,
    So that (the genuineness) of your faith may be tested, (your faith) which is infinitely more precious than the perishable gold which is tested and purified by fire. (This proving of your faith is intended) to redound to (your) praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ ( the Messiah, the Anointed One) is revealed.
    Without having seen Him, you love him; though you do not (even) now see Him, you believe in Him and exult and thrill with inexpressible and glorious (triumphant, heavenly) joy.
    (At the same time) you receive the result (outcome, consummation) of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

    AMP of James 1:12 says, “Blessed (happy, to be envied) is the man who is patient under trial and stands up under temptation, for when he has stood the test and been approved, he will receive (the victor’s) crown of life which God has promised to those who love him.”

    MORE Faith + MORE Endurance + MORE Love for God = Salvation for our souls and a victor’s crown of life.

  17. Pure as Gold

    6So be truly glad.b There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while. 7These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

    Peter here greets “the strangers scattered throughout” (vs1) and it reminds me of Zechariah 13 and the scattering of the sheep. In Zec 13:9 he says of the Lord “I will bring that group through the fire and make them pure. I will refine them like silver and purify them like gold.” Malachi echoes the same message 3:3 “He will sit as a smelter and purifier of silver, and He will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, so that they may present to the LORD offerings in righteousness.”

    The process of purification and holiness isn’t easy or pretty. It’s a painful journey through tests and trials. The most beautiful diamonds come from extreme pressure, the most gorgeous flowers grew from dirt. They have to overcome the elements to bloom or shine. The best physical and spiritual illiustration of this principle in motion is the 3 boys getting thrown in the firey furnace in Daniel 3 because they wouldn’t worship a false god. The trails they went through weren’t anything for the fire, instead it purified them, not a hair on their head or thread of their clothing was burned. Our faith is more precious than gold and these tests and trials is what is preparing and purifying us for Jesus’ return for us. He is coming back for a bride without spot or blemish.

  18. 1 Peter 1:18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver and gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors but with the precious blood of Christ a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before creation of the world but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Though him you believe in God who raised him from the dead and glorified him and so your faith and hope are in God.

  19. 18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

    19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

    The blood of God cannot be bought, for the blood of God is worth so much more than silver and gold!! Thank God for the blood of the lamb!!

  20. More Word more Fire
    25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

    The Word of God will not change but endure the test of time. It has endured criticism, accusations, and generations that have tried to destroy it. If we are to endure until the end we must know His Word we must know His voice.

  21. Joy unspeakable and full of glory !!!! 8. Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: 9. Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. 10. Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: Gen. 49 : 10 11.Searching what, or what manner of time the Spir’-it of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. 12. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Ho’-ly Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into. Exod. 25 : 20 I LOVE YOU JESUS !!!! GLORY TO YOUR NAME !!!! YOUR MIGHTY !!!! YOUR A STRONG TOWER !!!!

  22. 14 So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then.
    15 But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.

    He has saved us that we may live righteous and holy lives separated from sin. Turning back is just undoing what He has done for us like throwing the gift of salvation back at Him and saying, “no I don’t need this anymore.” But we cannot make it without You Jesus!

  23. The precious blood of Jesus Christ, atones, heals, washes, and he is the lamb without blemish or spot……..”Perfect”….

    19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

    20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

    “Plead the Blood”……………….

  24. 9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

    If we follow Jesus’ commandments and endure to the end we will obtain our salvation.

  25. Bought with a price.

    19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

    We are slaves to Jesus. All of us. We have been bought with blood. Pure innocent blood. We now have a debt to pay. Pay with our lives. To live for him. Thank you Jesus for what you did on Calvary.

    More revival.
    More 440

  26. 1Pet. 1:18 knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold,

    We were ransomed. We owed an amount that we could not pay. Sin had us as slaves but Christ died for us and bought us with his blood. We have a debt that says, “paid in full.” To Christ be the glory.

  27. So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. (‭1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭6-7‬ NLT)

    Tests and trials of this world may seem too hard to bear but just trust that there is a reason for every one of them. These things are permitted in your life to make you stronger, as well as make you more aware of God speaking into your life. Just know that with God all things are possible, lean on Him and He will make a way

  28. This chapter is talking of so many things such as how God gave His life for us and He’s the purist of them all. We need to obey God and trust in Him. Also we must love our brothers and sisters and to also not go back to our past because, “For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.” (‭1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭16‬ NLT)”

    But what popped out to me mostly was these scriptures….
    For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God. As the Scriptures say, “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. But the word of the Lord remains forever.” And that word is the Good News that was preached to you. (‭1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭23-25‬ NLT)

    This is letting us know that just like the grass faded away and the flower so will we on this earth, but with God and His word living in us we will get the eternal life which is in heaven. So reading His word is giving me eternal life. This is a book I will not ever get tired of…….this book provides so much and it’s alive, once you read it you will have to go back and read it again….because each time is different and a new understanding comes! I want this eternal life, I want more of Him!!

  29. 18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

    The Lord (Jesus) gave more, the Lord gave all. Jesus (God) paid the price for all, which should never be forgotten. Dear God, please let me never forget that it is only because of your blood; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. In God we trust! What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  30. 1 Peter 1:6
    Wherein ye greatly rejoice though now for a season if need be ye are in heaveiness through manifold temptations.
    Heavy and tempting time come to us all. It’s our job to submit ourselves to God resist the devil and he will flee from us. In the mean time we need to rejoice even in our temptations because we know God will give us the victory

  31. 6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:

    7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

    Trails just means that God is is passing us through the fire. When we go through trials we might not see it at the moment but the impurities in in our life are being burned away to make us not only stronger but valuable in His Kingdom. MORE 40 DAYS OF FIRE!

  32. 17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

    So often we run into people who talk about “freely given grace”. Many other religions argue that we are saved by free grace, and not by our works. I wander how many people really believe that that is true, and the bible is wrong??

    The Bakers

  33. 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

    Lord Jesus christ,for I come to you tonite for, i humble myself before you my lord that you that has called me holy, for I give up myself to you lord Jesus christ,for I ask what do you want me to do,for you my lord,for you have all my attention on you my lord,for I come to on my knees praying fervently and brokenly lord Jesus christ for you passing me over the fire well not only make me stronger but valuable for your kingdom my lord. In Jesus Name Amen !!!!!

    Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

  34. 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

    The very words that we speak should fall under the category of holiness. We must not allow words to defile our mouth because our very mouth is holy unto the Lord. God doesn’t dwell in filth, so every word that we speak should be clean.

  35. 13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

    Keep your mind from wandering wherever it will because the enemy can enter into those thoughts and he can lead you off into discouragement, vain & foolish imaginations or anything to keep your focus off the Lord’s will and work he has for you.

  36. 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

    16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

    In a world where standards and morals are almost forgotten, we are called to be holy. We are in this world but not of this world. The Lord through His Word calls us to be separate. To be an example to others and reflect the light of Jesus in us.

  37. 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

    16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

    1 John 3:3-6 And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. Everyone who makes of practice of sinning also practices lawlessness. You know that he appeared in order to take away sins and in him there is no sin. No one who abides in him keeps on sinning, no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.

  38. 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

    16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

    It doesn’t matter if nobody hears some of the things we say, HE hears them all and he was the one who commanded us to be holy like he was holy

  39. That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: (‭1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭7‬ KJV)

    The trials of your faith

    Trials are often not looked at as God things, but in this case it says that it is much more precious than gold. These hard times cause you to cling to God of fear. When you feel fear gripping you at every turn you should reach more for God. That is what makes the trying of your faith more precious. Not going through the hard time itself, but rather your response to the hard time is what makes it so precious. At the point of trials we are all reminded of the greatness of God.
