1 Peter 4

1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:

4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:

5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.

6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.

10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.

16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

  1. 11. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen. NLT

    Ecclesiastes 9:10
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. KJV

  2. 9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
Amen.

Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

    1 Corinthians 10:29-31
29 Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man’s conscience?
30 For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?
31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Some people like to judge other without really knowing the purpose of my heart. For them I pray forgiveness. God and only God knows what it is the purpose He has pointed out for them and only He has directed the path which I am to take. It is obvious is a path I will take alone. Don’t fear, don’t dread what is to come, just follow Christ walk the path He has guided you to follow and to God be ALL GLORY AND ALL HONOR!!!!!!

  3. Verses 14-16 MSG “If you’re abused because of Christ, count yourself fortunate. It’s the Spirit of God and his glory in you that brought you to the notice of others. If they’re on you because you broke the law or disturbed the peace, that’s a different matter. But if it’s because you’re a Christian, don’t give it a second thought. Be proud of the distinguished status reflected in that name!”

Verse 19 NLT “So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you.” Don’t give up, don’t stop….just keep pushing and trust in the Lord.

  4. But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

Life happens, don’t allow it to make you lose your focus on what really is most important.
GOD is still on His throne, no matter the pain!! I thank The Lord for his peace, comfort, and hand upon my life! There is no telling where I’d be at or doing now with out The Lord being with me. He’s been faithful and I thank Him for hearing my cry.

In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. (‭Psalms‬ ‭56‬:‭4‬ KJV)

  5. NLT 10 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 11Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.

Its great the body of Christ coming together as one. Each one of us has the ability to speak, we have Sunday school teachers, HBS teachers, assistants, singers, etc. Let us all speak and reach the lost, how and what we speak, others are listening and judging.

  6. I Peter 4:10 Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.

In this Me Generation, positions are going unfilled for the job of “servant.” Want to apply? What a difference it would make in our weary world if we would only “serve one another in love”(Gal.5:13)!

  7. AMP of 1 Peter 4:1-2
So, since Christ suffered in the flesh for us, for you, arm yourselves with the same thoughts and purpose (patiently to suffer rather than fail to please God). For whosoever has suffered in the flesh (having the mind of Christ) is done with (intentional) sin (has stopped pleasing himself and the world, and pleasing God),
So that he can no longer spend the rest of his natural life living by (his) human appetites and desires, but (he lives) for what God wills.

When we give our hearts and lives to God, our mindset changes (we are transformed by the renewing of our mind, and we take on the mind of Christ). We no longer live to please ourselves, our appetites and desires for sin, but we live to please God and to do His will.

Thank You JESUS for changing my mind!

  8. 1peter 4:5
who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.

only God can judge us if we can stay in heaven or go to hell we cant judge are selfs only god can we must be ready AMEN

  9. 1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
    (KJV)

1So then, since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. For if you have suffered physically for Christ, you have finished with sin.a
2You won’t spend the rest of your lives chasing your own desires, but you will be anxious to do the will of God.
3You have had enough in the past of the evil things that godless people enjoy—their immorality and lust, their feasting and drunkenness and wild parties, and their terrible worship of idols.
4Of course, your former friends are surprised when you no longer plunge into the flood of wild and destructive things they do. So they slander you.
5But remember that they will have to face God, who will judge everyone, both the living and the dead.
6That is why the Good News was preached to those who are now deadb—so although they were destined to die like all people,c they now live forever with God in the Spirit
    (NLT)

When we are washed in the BLOOD of the LAMB many miraculous things happen. One of which is that you are fitted with armor. Breastplate, gauntlets, helmet, sword and shield; God recruits you into HIS ARMY. To be a CHRISTIAN is to be CHRIST-LIKE…..and to be like CHRIST there has to be suffering. Some of us are persecuted, talked against, threatened, tortured, but we all suffer gladly because our reward is greater and it is a true honor to be persecuted for the ONE WHO SET US FREE!!!!!! When He delivers you all the desires and wants of that old life seem to just dissolve as the LIGHT penetrates darkness. Gone are the days of self ridicule, self medicating, self mutilation. We are lifted up, freed, empowered, built up, strengthened, liberated….and above all LOVED. So many people from our past thought they knew who we were then, when they see us now they dont believe it. There is slander and back biting, gossip and ridicule, but our transformation speaks volumes. No weapon formed against us shall prosper. God shuts the mouths of lions, and gives us opportunities to spread HIS GOOD NEWS so that others may be washed and cleansed, born again, liberated, FREED FROM PRISON!!!! God told me “I will use your past to build your future” Hallelujah!!!!

  10. The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers. Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay. God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen. (‭1 Peter‬ ‭4‬:‭7-11‬ NLT)

This world is reaching it’s end soon and we must not waste one opportunity. We must have consecrated prayer time to match a consecrated life. We will become Christ body and begin to give MORE. We will begin to give what has been given to us therefor it’s not from our human supply, but from Christs supply. And all the glory and honor will go to Jesus.

  11. 12 Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. 13 Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world.

As crazy as it may seem, we should praise and thank God for the hard times and the trials! It is during that time that we become closer to Him and build a stronger relationship!

  12. 11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Whatever gift you may have been given, use to help in God’s work. Don’t use it for selfish or earthly purposes, it will only lead you away from God. But when you give your gift to the work of God, then God will bless you for it and your gift will be brought to it’s fullest potential.

  13. 17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

Judgement will always begin with the saints of God, have we been born again and did that which was right. We understand that we are in the number of the righteous and if we are saved it will be by the mercy of God. Yes we may suffer as a child of God, but if we suffer we will suffer for doing what is right.
I find the word commit here, we should always be committed to do the will of God and be committed to live for God. Where there is not commitment to something, we will never be able to accomplish everything we need to do.

  14. 18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
This verse always have seem to me a really advising and encouraging verse.
Our Lord always knows everything we do and thoughts. God is merciful and full of grace but the verse 17 said that the judge stars from the house of God that means us.
Our God is too a consuming Fire.
    In Jesus name!

  15. MORE REJOICING

Frequently we witness people go through trials and find themselves dealing with frustration, depression and defeat. Obviously the counsel of the Apostle here is to REJOICE through trials.

    Why?

The target of satan is to steal the GOD directed PRAISE of every believer. The devil fears PRAISE of a righteous believer, simply because he was the angel of Praise and knows the distinct POWER of Righteous PRAISE.

Like Job, GOD allows satan to tempt and try us with, loss, infirmity, pain and sorrow. We are wise to quickly examine our lives in JESUS and repent of any wrong that we have committed that may have caused us to violate or transgress the Holy nature of GOD. Then Praise the LORD JESUS through it all.

PRAISE has accomplished MORE than pouting, murmuring or complaining ever could.

Thank you JESUS for TRUSTING me with trials to prove my FAITH in you. I PRAISE you this day with “exceeding JOY”.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iRejoice
    iReap

  16. 1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

As Sis. Smith spoke to us a few weeks ago, the Lord uses finances, family and health to draw us closer to him. If we are growing our relationship with Him, we will not have time or the desire to sin.

  17. You have had enough in the past of the evil things that godless people enjoy—their immorality and lust, their feasting and drunkenness and wild parties, and their terrible worship of idols. Of course, your former friends are surprised when you no longer plunge into the flood of wild and destructive things they do. So they slander you. (‭1 Peter‬ ‭4‬:‭3-4‬ NLT)

A pagan I was a hypocrite I became because I knew the truth.
Many of you all that post to this blog know I wasn’t always commited and allowing God to be effective in my life. For many years I ran from God I didn’t want his rightousness. I SAY at that time I didnt want his grace or his mercies. So I did what I wanted as much as I wanted I did things in darkness hoping they never come to light. With friends that I thought were my friends we didn’t know we were messing with evil spirits and worshiping idols we were just having a good time. So I thought. I was sinner and one of the worst because I know what God could do and I even knew how real he really was and how he could change somebody’s life. I was dead in sin and I was destined for hell if i continued to go down that road. I had plans for my self to continue down that road I was numb wasn’t in the right mind.

But God… He had greater plans. He warned me and he open my eyes to his grace and I learned that his GRACE covers my Sin. That he loves me more then my sin could ever effect me. That I wasn’t to far from him for me to be able to speak to him.
Thank YOU JESUS!! I am saved only by your grace.

  18. 17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

MORE Fire! This is our answer to help us draw closer to God, cleanse us from the things of this world and reach out to others with the hope we have in him. Fire in the natural cleanses: farmers burn their fields at season’s end to help it be more productive next year; it helps separate impurities from metals and does the same in the spiritual-cleanses and burns away impurities. MORE Fire!

  19. 4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:

16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

People notice when we are not like them, the notice we don’t speak like the, act like them or even think like them. They all might have a lot to say at first but when they come to a place of needing and seeking God they will know exactly who to run to. Despite all that has happened in the past it is our job to be there for them and show them the light that is Jesus Christ. And if we suffer? Well, there’s no amount of suffering that could be as much as he suffered fir us, just count it all joy 🙂

  20. v10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

GOD is calling everyone of us to the greatest ministry…… the ministry of ministering to one another.
Where ever we serve in the body of JESUS CHRIST
let us gladly serve as HIS ministers to the needs of others.

    MORE HUMILITY
    MORE SERVANTHOOD
    MORE MINISTRY
    MORE OF GOD’S GRACE

  21. 7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

It all culminates around this verse. That the end is at hand. Growing up, this is the message that was preached. It was preached so much I grew numb to it. I started believing it wasn’t true. So many thing happening now and with social media there is undoubted proof the end is near. We are at the brink of the rapture. God lead us to those that need you.

  22. God doesn’t put us through trials to cause us to fall. He puts us through them so we learn to lean on Him and trust in Him. When we go through struggles it’s the time to praise God, not run from Him!

  23. Arm your Mind

    1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

Just as Christ came with purpose and submitted to his suffering we are too also have a mind of purpose and submit to the suffering that keeps us humble as we continue on with His mission in mind. If our minds are filled with purpose and mission there is no room for sin and defeat to dwell.

When we arm our minds with purpose and mission. This verse reminds me of Philippians 2
2 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,

2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

    10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

When we arm our minds we put the authority behind the name every time we speak it out of our mouth. My statement is not to contradict the Word of God but when we first came to Christ we called his name out of fear of Him and He came to our rescue but when we walk in purpose and vision we call his name as a weapon.

    • That as the enemy bows before His name we have the opportunity to chop off His head. Remember David, the weapon in his hand killed Goliath then He chopped off his head while he was down. The Bible says in 1 Samuel 17: 45 “but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts” and then in verse 49 “and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.”

51 Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.

  24. 6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
I am so thankful that when I was spiritually dead, someone told me about life in Jesus.

  25. 1 Peter 4

    1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

Why do we suffer?  Wow this scripture jumped at me as I read.  It’s simply dying to flesh.  The word tells us to arm ourselves with this mindset, just like Christ, we suffer together with him and we will be victorious also with him.

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ in Him I have shared His crucifixion; it is no longer I who live, but Christ the Messiah lives in me; and the life I now live in the body I live by faith in by adherence to and reliance on and complete trust in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

2 Timothy 2:11-12, 14 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

  26. 19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

Commitment of our life, soul and spirit to God even when times are not as good as we hoped for, but remember God is faithful to his promises and we will see Him face to face if we give it all to Him.

  27. iLove to eat More Word

1 Peter 4:1 KJV Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin.

    Arm Yourselves

    Arm #G3695
    ὁπλίζω
    hoplizō
    hop-lid’-zo
From G3696; to equip (with weapons [middle voice and figuratively]): – arm self.

The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, the warfare of true Christians deal with the mind. To arm your mind, is to prepare for suffering. Jesus suffered in the flesh and we should not stumble if we suffer as well. God has given us true victory and has given us the ability to cast down all imaginations that exalt themselves against the knowledge of Christ. Arm your mind and fight the good fight.

  28. Time is come !!!! 17. For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? Isa. 10 : 12, Ezek. 9 : 6 18. And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? 19. Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator. JESUS you are AWESOME !!!! Break all chains and strongholds, and yolks !!!! I AM VICTORIOUS THROUGH CHRIST JESUS !!!!

  29. 19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

Some will suffer the same. We must inderstaand that not all will suffer but some will.

  30. 1Pet. 4:19   Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.

When we give our soul into the hands of Christ, we are comforted knowing that he knows best. When we suffer in his will, he takes note. Let us remember that nothing we go through in this life compares to the joy we will have when we are with him in eternity.

  31. In first Peter 4 It speaks of trials and hardships .But we know that the word of God says in Romans 8:28 and we know that all things work together for the good to them that love God to them who are called according to his purpose. When we as believers are truly seeking God’s purpose and his will to further his kingdom ,trials in our lives only come to build our character . With rejoicing we know there is a bigger picture and a larger plan that we are part of ,to further Gods kingdom.

  32. 12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

Sufferings are not fun. No one volunteers to suffer. However suffering is necessary. Suffering teaches us obedience to God. Suffering teaches us to rely on him.

Suffering also helps us to have joy and be prepared for when Christ comes back.

  33. So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you. (‭1 Peter‬ ‭4‬:‭19‬ NLT)

Praise God that we have the opportunity to suffer as Christ suffered. By that alone we are closer to being like Christ. Every test and trial is a step towards a greater reward than we could ever imagine. Gods arm is reaching for us, let’s reach for Him…
My God is more than enough!

  34. “And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.” If ever a situation arises one should remember that God (Jesus) willingly suffered the cross for all, which is truly the greatest example of love. Dear God, open my eyes for I must have fervent charity; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. In God we trust! What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  35. Peter has a crystal clear sense that Jesus could return at any time. Peter wrote this letter over 1,900 years ago. Jesus still hasn’t returned. Was he wrong? No! He was absolutely right. In his day, as in ours, the return of Jesus is at hand. The urgency in his message is sobering. The old covenant has been fufilled, and the new covenant is in place- God is in his last stage of dealing with his people. Peter also reminds us that our sense of time is very different from God’s (vs8). His concern is not that Christians will begin charting timelines to figure out when Jesus will return. Rather, he encourages that every follower of Christ to live in readiness to meet Jesus. Jesus spoke of a parable of ten virgins, all had lamps with oil, but 5 ran out. They asked the ones still with oil for theirs, and those 5 told them to go get their own. Five were prepared to wait for the bridegroom filled with the Holy Ghost. The others needed to get refilled. We cannot give people the Holy Ghost we can only point them to the source. The questions in Peter’s day are the same questions we ask today: If Jesus would return today, would I be ready to meet him? If Jesus does not return this day, week, year, or decade, will I be ready to live for him, filled will oil for Him tomorrow?

  36. More love–
If we have more love it will make a difference.

And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. Use hospitality one to another without grudging. As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. (‭1 Peter‬ ‭4‬:‭8-10‬ KJV)
